Chapter Text
Usagi Tsukino, pigtailed champion of justice and all things cute, bounced with excitement on the white sand beach. Today was the day! After years of begging (and maybe a strategically placed "Moon Prism Power Make Up!" in front of Ikuko's travel brochure), Usagi was finally at the ocean.
"It's even more amazing than in the pictures, Luna!" she squealed, the salty breeze whipping her hair around her face. Luna, perched on her shoulder with a decidedly unimpressed look, flicked her tail dismissively.
"For an Earth creature, Usagi," she said dryly. "Though, I suppose it's a novelty for someone who spends most weekends at Crown Arcade."
Ignoring Luna's usual cynicism, Usagi peeled off her sandals and raced towards the turquoise waves. The water rushed at her ankles, cool and refreshing. With a delighted squeal, she plunged in, expecting the cool embrace to envelop her entire body.
Except... it didn't.
Usagi stopped, surprised. The water only reached her waist, a far cry from the endless blue depths she'd seen in countless anime and Naru's endless vacation pictures. Frowning, she waded in further, but the water level remained stubbornly at mid-torso.
"Luna?" Usagi called, a hint of panic creeping into her voice. "What's going on? Did the ocean shrink?"
Luna hopped off her shoulder and padded closer, her brow furrowed in thought. She dipped a paw into the water, then sniffed it curiously.
"This is... strange," she muttered. "The water composition seems normal. Usagi, perhaps this is a shallow bay? Maybe we should head further out?"
Emboldened by Luna's suggestion, Usagi took a tentative step forward. Then another. And another. But the water level never rose above her waist. It was as if the ocean had a giant, invisible "No Diving" sign hovering just below the surface.
Disappointment gnawed at Usagi. All those daydreams of riding dolphins, battling monstrous sea creatures, and maybe even bumping into a handsome merman – all dashed by the reality of a perpetually shallow ocean.
Suddenly, a mischievous glint sparked in Usagi's eyes. This wouldn't stop her from having fun! With a triumphant cry, she began splashing around, giggling as the cool water sprayed her face. Luna, ever the pragmatist, rolled her eyes but couldn't help a small smile tugging at the corners of her mouth.
As the sun began to dip below the horizon, painting the sky in fiery hues of orange and pink, Usagi emerged from the water, hair dripping and a wide grin plastered on her face.
"Maybe the ocean isn't what I expected," she admitted to Luna, "but it's still pretty awesome! Besides, who needs to swim when you can moonwalk on water, right?"
Luna snorted, but before she could reply, a loud CRASH echoed from behind them. They whirled around to see a monstrous figure emerge from the waves – a giant clam with glowing pink eyes and a mischievous grin.
"Well, well, well," the clam boomed in a surprisingly cheerful voice. "Looks like we have some visitors who haven't heard the rules of the Shallow Sea!"
Usagi's eyes widened. This wasn't exactly how she'd planned her first ocean experience, but hey, at least it wasn't boring! With a determined glint in her eyes, she raised her fist.
"Looks like it's time for a Moon Crisis!" she declared. "Moon Prism Power, Make Up!"
And so, under the watchful gaze of the setting sun, Sailor Moon prepared to face the strangest ocean guardian she'd ever encountered, proving once again that even a shallow sea held its own brand of adventure.
