Chapter Text
…
Zooble laid in their bed, laying on the flat side of their pink triangle head. They tried to lay still, but the arm they were laying on was too short compared to their other arm. Zooble had no idea how they could deal with having a body that didn’t even match each other closely. The mix & match creature’s mind swirled with thoughts.
They had only been here for what they would say a few months and they already had a list of things they hated in here. But the main thing that made them mad was their new body. It was just so easy to pull apart and no madder how long Zooble searched they couldn’t find any pieces that just… felt like their body.
A memory flashed in the triangles site, of their first day. They had luckily appeared after the stupid theme song but unluckily was thrown in the middle of an adventure. The floating dentures that called himself Caine had told the rest of the cast to save them as they had fallen apart and was captured by the villains of the day’s adventure. Zooble had no idea what was going on, not having been told about this wacky world yet. The group was able to collect all of Zooble’s parts, and Caine did the whole spiel on how they’re stuck in this hell hole of neon colors and existential angst.
The mix & match creature hadn’t taken it too well, slinging curses and shutting themself in their room for a few days. Even though it had just been a few months, the only thing they remember from those days were when they just stared into the mirror in the corner of their room… just looking at the thing they had to call “their” body.
As their mind started wondering to the thoughts that usually consumed them at this time of hour, they tried to think of anything else. Zooble didn’t want to go down that rabbit hole tonight, wondering through their pink triangle head. And what ended up pulling Zooble out of their thoughts was the one that was able to save their head from the creatures trying to hide it, Gangle.
Even though Ragatha, the kind rag-doll that was always trying to help everyone with their problems, tried to help them to adjust to the circus first, Gangle was the one that they really ended up talking to. Or well, listening to.
After a little, Gangle eventually started trying to talk to Zooble, especially when she still had her comedy mask on. And somehow the two ended up getting to the topic of Anime, which the conversation ended up being Gangle telling Zooble about the anime she had been obsessed with for a while. Though they didn’t really mind listening to it, kinda finding the topic a bit interesting, though they didn’t admit it.
But something had interrupted Zooble, a small knock at the door made them sit up in the bed. The knock could have only came from one person. Jax would only knock right before he unlocks the door. Ragatha, even with her plush mitten hands, had a louder knock at the door than that. Caine never knocked, and the others haven’t really tried to talk to them when they were in their room.
It had to be Gangle.
Zooble stepped off their bed, walking slowly to the door, stumbling on one of their legs. They reached out their humanoid hand to twist the door handle and open the door. Gangle was standing there, looking down at her ribbon feet. She looked up to Zooble with a smile, the comedy mask still on her face. The end part of her ribbon body that resembled a tail raised a little like a cat’s, making Zooble realize that they had something behind her back. It was clearly a box, the ribbon had barely hidden it.
“Hi Zooble,” Gangle said her face immediately dropping a bit. “I didn’t wake you, did I” she asked, a hint of worry in her voice, contrary to her mask. Zooble shook their triangle head.
“No, you didn’t… what do you want?” Zooble asked, Gangle smiled, pulling the boxes from behind her back. It almost looked like a VHS tape box, printed with the design of the very anime Gangle was talking about, Azumanga Daioh.
“W-well I was just..” Gangle said, rubbing the back of her porcelain mask. “.. I already told you about this anime and I was just wondering if you would like to watch some of it with.. me.” She smiled, her voice sounding a bit nervous. Zooble paused, Gangle never really got nervous when she had her comedy mask on.
“Sure,” Zooble said to the shock of the ribbon girl, the mix & match creature was currently just trying to justify them actually wanting to hang out with Gangle. They didn’t have anything to do, and they guess it could be fun.
“R-really,” Gangle’s smile grew even wider by the second, Zooble nodded their head. “Well... um let’s…” the ribbon girl turned on her heels, taking quiet steps. Zooble started to walk behind her. Stumbling on their leg, the one that gave them the most problems was the peg leg that they had picked this morning. A thought raced in their mind, were they being to loud. Zooble looked down to Gangle, just in case they were making too much noise. But the ribbon girl didn’t give them a look that told them they were being too loud. Zooble just kept their eyes on Gangle, not wanting to see the red X’s on the doors they passed.
The two finally made it to Gangle’s room, the ribbon girl reaching out and wrapped her ribbon hand around it, twisting it. The door opened, letting light into the dimly light room. Gangle turned around, gesturing to the mix & match creature, Zooble walked into the room. Gangle quickly past them, skipping to a corner of the room with what appeared to be a box TV and a small red couch. The mix & match creature was kinda surprised that Gangle had a whole corner in her room just to watch anime. The ribbon girl jumped over the couch, clearly trying to be careful not to break her mask. She opened the VHS box to pull out a what looks like USB drive, Gangle plugged it into a plug in the box TV the screen truthly turn to life. Zooble stepped forward, taking a seat at the edge of the couch, Gangle sitting down next to them barely able to stay still with her happiness. Gangle paused in the middle of it, turning her mask head to the mix & match creature.
“H-hey Zooble-“ Gangle squeaked as happiness filled her voice, “- I just want to say thank you” Zooble looked down at the ribbon girl sitting next to them. If they had a mouth they would have smiled back.
“No problem.” Zooble said in their regular monotone, the two turned back to the screen as the melody of the opening started.
