Work Text:

“Shove off extra! I already told you, I’m dating someone already!” Bakugo huffed angrily.

The Bakusquad’s eyes all zeroed in on their blonde friend and a 1st year girl hot on his tail. Mina blinked in confusion, looking to Kirishima for an answer. The redhead frowned and seemed equally confused. Since when did their loud, obnoxiously powerful friend have a girlfriend? Individually, each friend of Bakugo instantly agreed to figure out who he was dating. It had to be someone in their school. Maybe a 2nd or 1st year? They’d have to piece the puzzle together as a squad. Otherwise, the little bits of information they’d receive would be nothing.

“Can’t we just waltz up and ask him?” Kaminari suggested before Aizawa started class.

“You want to get your face blown off?” Sero muttered. “He’d get mad. There’s a reason he hasn’t told us about her.”

“I’m sure she’s gotta be gorgeous,” Mina gushed.

“And powerful,” Kirishima smiled. “He probably found a girl that’s just as manly as he is! Er- womanly. Well, women can be manly too. I prefer using it as a gender-inclusive…thingy-“

“So he’s got the hots for people like Miriko?” Kaminari hummed in amusement. “He’s got taste. She’s pretty hot.”

Jiro scoffed and smacked her boyfriend over the head. “Denki, you idiot.”

“I would never leave you for someone like Miriko!” Kaminari quickly wrapped Jiro in his arms, pouting his lips. “You’re the only one for me!”

“Anyway,” Mina cleared her throat, glancing over at Bakugo. Her eyes widened and she pointed at their loud friend. “Hey, look at that.”

The blonde was sitting across the room, on his phone. His face had little to no emotion, instead of his usual scowl. She and their group snuck around the classroom quietly. He was texting someone. Kirishima took a hesitant step forward, barely peeking over Bakugo’s shoulder before a gasp fell from him.

“The fuck do you think you’re doing, assholes?” Bakugo growled, slamming his phone face down on his desk.

“Nothing man!” Kirishima attempted to smile. “Just wondering why you’re being so quiet!”

Bakugo gave his friend a skeptical look. Now he was scowling again, annoyance bright as day on his face once more. “Bullshit. What the hell are you doing over here?”

“Fine, you’ve caught us!” Mina sighed, slumping over Bakugo’s desk. She sneakily snatched the phone and tucked it into Sero’s hands. “We just wanted to ask for the homework answers. I couldn’t figure them out.”

“Fuck no,” Bakugo crossed his arms. “Do your own damn work.”

“Sit down problem children,” A groggy voice grumbled from the floor. “Class is starting.”

~~~
“Mina!” Kirishima hissed through gritted teeth. “He’s going to know his phone is missing!”
“Relax,” Mina shushed, occasionally glancing up to see if Aizawa had caught her on said stolen device. Bakugo hadn’t noticed it was missing yet. And if he had, he didn’t say anything. Not that he’d really care, considering the damn thing was locked. Obviously. Who would leave their phone unlocked for anyone to get onto? Even so, it was stupid. Mina struggled to figure out Bakugo’s password. “What do you think his password is?”
“Probably ‘GoDie1234’ or something,” Kaminari snickered. He leaned over to peek on the phone.
“Nope,” Mina huffed, tapping in things Bakugo would potentially have his phone locked by.
“Try ‘I am here’?” Kirishima whispered.
“I already did,” Mina grumbled. She nearly had a heart attack when the phone vibrated. Her eyes nervously trailed to Bakugo for a moment. The blonde remained oblivious. A text message came in from someone. “Who’s ‘Deku’?”
“I’ve never heard the name,” Kaminari shrugged. “Why?”
“They just texted Bakugo. And their name has a heart emoji next to it. Awwe, that’s actually kinda sweet!” She gushed.
“Is that his girlfriend?” Kirishima asked. “What does the message say?”
“I can’t read it unless we unlock the phone,” Mina sighed. “Guess we gotta sneak this back in his bag.”
“Damn, Bakugo’s got his shit secret, that’s for sure,” Kaminari frowned. “I wanna know all the juicy details!”
“It’ll have to wait-“
“Ashido, Kaminari, Kirishima,” Aizawa grumbled from the front. “Do you three wanna repeat what I just said?”
“Uhh,” Kaminari blinked. “Could you repeat that?”
Their teacher sighed, and mumbled something about not getting paid enough before returning back to his lecture. All three students let out a sigh of relief, tucking the borrowed phone into Mina’s bag. The investigation would have to wait a bit longer.
~~~

The group’s next attempt didn’t go well either. Not that stealing someone’s phone was a good plan at all. Jiro had suggested they try and mention going on a group date. Everyone was required to ask someone out. Sero suggested he and Mina would go together, Jiro and Kaminari (obviously) and Bakugo and his girlfriend. Kirishima didn’t want to go, since he wasn’t really interested in anyone romantically. It’d work out perfectly. Or so they had believed.

“We should all go out,” Sero announced, a bit too loudly during lunch. Mina kicked him under the table. Bakugo raised one of his eyebrows up.

“On a date?” Kaminari clarified.

“Yeah, a group date,” Sero cleared his throat and smiled. “Only rule is, you have to bring a date. We could ask permission to leave campus and go out somewhere.”

“Sounds cool,” Jiro said nonchalantly. “Denki and I are down.”

“I’ll go with Sero!” Mina smiled.

“I’m gonna pass,” Kirishima rubbed the back of his neck. “I’m not really into romantic stuff.”

“How ‘bout you Bakugo?” Kaminari said. “You got someone to ask?”

“I’m not going.”

“What, c’mon!” Mina pushed. “Everyone else is going! Except Kirishima, but he has an excuse!”

“I’m busy,” Bakugo huffed.

“We haven’t even set a date,” Sero pushed.

“I’d rather fight a damn villain than watch you four suck faces while I eat. Hell. No.”

“Fair enough,” Kaminari shrugged.

Mina blinked. She then smiled and interlocked her fingers, elbows on the table. She stared directly at Bakugo. “Are you embarrassed that you wouldn’t have anyone to ask?”

Bakugo’s eyes widened ever so slightly. He then grinned and let out a huff of a laugh, albeit it was devoid of any humor. “I fucking got someone in mind, Pinky.”

“Really?” Kaminari chuckled. “It’s fine man, if you don’t got game. Just admit it now-“

“Fuck off!” The blonde growled, slamming his hands on the table before marching off to finish his lunch elsewhere.

“That went smoothly,” Sero muttered.

“At least we know he’s ‘got someone in mind’.” Kirishima said.

“Doesn’t confirm he’s dating anyone,” Mina pouted. “Maybe he made a girlfriend up so nobody would ask him out? And he has a crush on someone?”

“I wonder who he likes,” Kaminari said. “Hey, what if we ask him what his type is?”

“That’s- That might work actually,” Mina nodded. She smirked. “For once, Kaminari has a smart idea!”

“Hey!”

~~~
“So man, what’s your type?” Kirishima asked, one evening as the pair went down to the indoor gym to work out.
“Where the hell’d that come from?” Bakugo said defensively.
“A bit ago we were talking about a group date. Just curious who you’re into,” Kirishima smiled. “Man to man conversation, y’know?”
Bakugo didn’t answer for a moment, taking a few sips of his water. The blonde shrugged. “I like strength. They can’t be a pussy.”
“Cool! Strength is good! Having big muscles is super awesome-“
“Strength,” Bakugo interjected. “Is not just muscles and power dumbass.”
“Oh, right.” Kirishima rubbed the back of his neck. “What else do you like?”
“Why the hell does it matter?”
“Just curious! Can a bro not ask what his bro’s type is?”
“Are you trying to fucking set me up on a date or some shit?”
“No! No no no, not at all!-“
“Good. Not interested.”
~~~

“This is hopeless,” Mina groaned, laying across her desk after a week of trying to figure out who Bakugo is dating. “How can we know that he has a girlfriend, but know nothing about her?”

“Just ask him about her,” Jiro shrugged.

“No! I’d rather not get blown to smithereens!” The pink haired girl cried.

“Who is going to blow you up?” Todoroki suddenly asked. He had a little concern on his face.

“Nobody,” Mina grumbled.

“Ah, just an expression. What’s wrong?”

“We’re just trying to figure out who Bakugo’s girlfriend is,” Sero said. “Do you have any idea?”

“Girlfriend?” Todoroki creased his brows in confusion. “I thought he was dating-“

“Oh my gosh- You know who he’s dating?!” Mina launched herself at Todoroki, grabbing his school uniform and yanking him down to her eye level. “Tell me who she is! Tell me! Tell me! Tell me!”

“Yes,” the dual haired man nodded. “I’ve met…her.”

“You’ve met her?” Kirishima asked, dumbfounded.

“Is she hot?” Sero pushed.

Todoroki blinked at the sudden onslaught of questions. “Uh-“

“What the fuck is going on?” All heads turned to a very grumpy blonde. He scoffed at Todoroki before taking his seat behind Shinso.

“Bakugo, they’re asking about your-“ Mina quickly slapped a hand over Todoroki’s mouth. She smiled awkwardly, shaking her head.

“The homework! Just the homework!” She said in a voice much higher than her own.

Bakugo ignored her, opting to pull out his phone again. He started texting someone, the scowl on his face vanishing instantly. Something close to a smile reflected on his cheeks. The Bakusquad watched in awe, as a surprisingly soft snicker escaped the grumpy blonde. All signs of anger were replaced with genuine happiness. Even his red eyes softened ever so slightly. Mina had to control every part of her being to avoid snatching that phone away and figuring out who was sending those messages to him. Kaminari beat her to it though, sneaking behind the blonde’s chair and peeking at the sender. The electric quirked boy’s jaw dropped as he quickly sprinted back to his desk.

“Sit down,” Aizawa ordered. “We have a few announcements.”

Mina, Kirishima, Sero and Jiro all were anxiously waiting for Kaminari’s discovery. They looked at their classmate, whose lips were surprisingly clamped shut. For the first time, Kaminari didn’t say a peep about gossip he had learned. Even when Jiro pushed him about it.

“We have a formal dance coming up next week,” Aizawa announced. “You each are allowed to bring a plus one from outside the school, but you and they need to fill out a form. Any disregard of the rules will get you expelled and your plus one a permanent ban from this property. Our class is in charge of music. Make a playlist or something while I nap. The theme is Winter Wonderland. Don’t wake me until lunch starts.”

Multiple excited murmurs rushed through the class at the announcement. All of the Bakusquad glanced over at their angry blonde, who was now working on homework from another class. Kaminari finally turned to his friends, a wide smirk across his face.

“Bakugo invited ‘Deku’ to the dance,” Kaminari whispered hurriedly. “I saw the messages, and it sounds like she’s gonna be there too. I think they’re gonna do a couple-y dress.”

“Really?!” Mina’s eyes sparkled. “We’ll get to meet her in less than a week?!”

“Sounds like it!” Kirishima smiled.

~~~
“The time has come,” Kaminari said as he, and the rest of the Bakusquad arrived in the gym. The decorations were paper snowflakes, ice and a yeti cardboard cut out. There were also a few balloons here and there. Overall, it was a very lowkey dance. They all searched for Bakugo.
“There!” Sero said, pointed at the spikey haired blonde. He leaned against the wall next to the entrance, glaring down at any poor girl who attempted to flirt their way next to him. He didn’t seem to be enjoying his time.
“Hey Bakubro!” Kirishima jogged over to him. “What’s up?”
“Your fit is tight,” Sero commented. It truly was. He wore a dark blue button up, and a white vest with green leaves sewn across the black back. His top was tucked into a pair of black slacks, matched with a pair of deep green wingtips. Surprisingly a good look for the blonde.
“Whatever,” Bakugo huffed, rolling his shoulders back.
“Whatcha doing all the way over here for?” Mina asked. “The dance is further inside.”
“Are you, perhaps, waiting for someone?” Kaminari added.
“Fuck off,” Bakugo flipped off the yellow haired boy. All of them caught the way his cheeks changed color though, a very light pink dusting his nose and ears.
“That’s it! Where the hell is this girl Bakugo?!” Mina huffed, folding her arms. “I’ve waited two weeks to meet this damn girl. I’ve been patient, respected boundaries (mostly), been trying to figure out who could woo such our stubborn boom boom boy. So where the hell is she?!”
Bakugo’s face went from surprise to anger faster than Kaminari went dumb after using his quirk. Then a deep chuckle escaped him. It eventually turned into shockingly loud snorts of laughter. The Bakusquad made nervous glances at one another. Why…was he laughing? What was happening? Did they break him? Are they all going to die? Are they already dead?!
“U-Uh, Bakubro?” Kirishima said hesitantly.
“F-Fuck!” The blonde cackled, leaning against the wall to keep his balance. “You fucking idiots!”
The group shuffled uncomfortably as their friend readjusted himself. One final snort escaped Bakugo and he leveled his face once more, albeit a smirk still remained on his flushed cheeks.
“I think we broke him…” Kaminari whispered loudly to Jiro, who smacked his shoulder.
“Hell no,” Bakugo said. “You guys think my girlfriend is coming tonight?”
“Is she not?” Mina shook off her stupor.
“No, she’s not. I don’t have a girlfriend.”
“Then who the hell is ‘Deku’?!” The entire group shouted at Bakugo.
“U-Uhm, Kacchan?” A timid voice said from behind. Like Moses parting the Red Sea, the Bakusquad split down the middle as Bakugo pushed his way through them.
“This, assholes,” Bakugo huffed, grabbing the new figure’s hand and lacing their fingers together. “Is Deku.”
The shorter boy smiled up at the Bakusquad. Mina nearly fainted. Kaminari’s jaw dropped. Sero did faint. Jiro waved at the boy. And Kirishima nodded in approval. Before them, a boy with curly green hair and the brightest smile ever greeted the small group. His vibrant emerald eyes could put models to shame, and it didn’t help that he wore the same outfit as Bakugo. Those colors made every part of the greenette’s features pop. Despite being around the same height as Mina, he still had a very defined body. A few freckles scattered across slightly chubby cheeks, that rose whenever he spoke. He was both hot and cute at the same time.
“Hello! I’m Izuku Midoriya!” The greenette said.
“A guy?!” Kaminari almost yelled. “You’re into dudes?”
“No, I’m into Deku,” Katsuki grumbled.
“Awwe, Kacchan!” Midoriya gushed, pulling the blonde down into a quick practiced peck on the cheek. They had to be dating for a while. That was too perfect for first time lovers. Still, a deep crimson washed over the blonde’s features.
“‘Kacchan’?” Sero questioned as he rose from the floor.
“You call your lover Deku?” Mina also added.
“Ah, those are nicknames we gave each other as kids,” Midoriya explained with an embarrassed blush. He waved his hand as he spoke. “Kacchan read my name wrong! And I thought Kacchan was a cute nickname for him.”
“I’m gonna start calling you Kacchan too, Kacchan,” Kaminari snickered.
“Like hell you will!” Bakugo snarled. His anger was quick though, calming the moment the greenette forced the taller’s arm over his shoulder.
“C’mon Kacchan!” Midoriya smiled. “I’ve always wanted to meet Eraserhead! Is he here? Is All Might here?!”
“Damn nerd,” Bakugo snickered, pressing a light kiss on the other’s forehead.
“Kacchan! Oh my All Might- Look!” Excited sounds came from the greenette.
“Well,” Kirishima chuckled. “That was unexpected.”
“How the hell did Bakugo land a cute, bubbly hottie like that?” Mina pouted, puffing her cheek out. “Why are all the good men taken?”
“Not all of us are,” Sero muttered to himself, a light blush across his face. Mina didn’t seem to hear his comment. She would never ignore something like that, especially considering her big crush on Sero was obvious to everyone except Sero.
“Either way, those two are super into each other,” Jiro smiled. “I think its awesome someone can calm Bakugo’s nerve so quickly. Maybe we should get Midoriya to stay around longer.”
“I wonder what kinda quirk he has,” Kirishima mentioned. “Bakugo said he liked super strong people. With those muscles, Midoriya’s gotta be super powerful and in control of his quirk! Wonder why he didn’t apply to UA.”
“He’s quirkless.” Mina yelped at the new voice, staring up at Todoroki. He kept his eyes locked on Midoriya and Bakugo though. “Don’t underestimate him, though. Midoriya is…one of the strongest and most capable people I know.”
“He’s quirkless?!” Kaminari’s jaw dropped again, as did the rest of the Bakusquad.
“Yes.”
The entire group stared in awe at the boy called Izuku Midoriya. Bakugo must adore that boy. The way they looked at each other…it was like a movie scene. The amount of love could never be broken. Anyone would be jealous of that. Even so, it was wonderful to see their usually angry blonde friend stand close to someone without even a trace of a scowl. The Bakusquad all felt proud of their loud friend. They knew he had found his match.
