Work Text:
It was a good day.
He had fun.
So why, why does it always end like this?
Kaito had spent the afternoon with his girlfriends, they went into their local town and spent the day together. He felt good his body didn't hurt so he convinced the pair he didn't need his walking stick today.
When they arrive in town, they stop at the local café. They always eat at a small tradition they made when they get together as a couple. "Mei look! they have the cinnamon lattes back in! we have to get one, please?" Lukas speaks in her usual cheery voice looking at Meiko with puppy-like eyes. Meiko laughs softly in return, nodding, adding it to the small list of what to order muttering something about Luka owing her the extra £2 it would cost her in a joking way. Kaito orders his usual pomegranate salad with a black tea. He feels the pain starting to show in his legs but pushes it off putting a smile on his face as he eats and talks with Luka waiting for Meiko to return as she's left to order everyone's food and drink's.
Soon after they eat and talk about how things had been they decide to window shop, not planning on buying anything, just enjoying each other's company. It is not often the three all get time off from their music jobs at the same time, most nights spent cuddling in bed after long shifts or one of them coming home after the house falls quiet due to everyone sleeping. So, the trio decided on a day out, as all three want to make the most of the week they have off together after so long . “Kaito look! The book shop is back open. Do you want to look? I bet they have the new series you were looking for!” Meiko exclaimed happily seeing Kaitos eyes light up at the thought as he nodded, stimming with hands subtlety. Kaito looks around happily explaining to the pair what the book series was about and how it's another drama book that finishes the series he was reading. Luka and Meiko don't miss the way his eyes light up the small stims he makes as he decides to buy the book before leaving the shop or the way his whole mood seems to lift even more.
After a few hours the three are in the last shop they wanted to check out with Luka wanting to stock up on some tea.
He stands not talking, only listening to the conversation now, not contributing anymore. He can hear Luka and Meiko discuss what kinds of tea they need in the house, Kaito pointing to the Lady Grey brand of tea he enjoyed when asked what he wanted.
Though he's hiding his body is starting to ache more and more as time goes on. He doesn't want his partners to worry.
He can feel it. The pain in his legs spread through to his hips, ankles and it started in his arms too. He won't worry them.
The journey home was worse, he could feel the pain unable to ignore it so he puts on his headphones on the bus to zone out trying to look normal enough, but catching his partners worried gazes he feels guilty knowing he can't hide it, knowing he'll have to face another conversation about accepting the fact he needs a walking stick and its okay to use it and he can't be bothered with it right now. he holds back angry tears on the bus and moving as fast as he could to the bedroom when he got home choking out the tears he was holding in. “Why does it always end like this?” he asks Meiko as she stands in the door. He's angry at himself, although he seems more upset than angry looking at it closer, Meiko thinks.
“Kaito… it's okay. Honey you’re going to be okay” She speaks softly sitting beside him on the bed as he curls up whining in pain, she starts rubbing his back, Luka walking in with his medicine a slight frown on her face as she sees the scene in front of her. Of course, this is a song and dance the trio has done before.
Though, something in him snaps today, and he starts sobbing into his pillow “No, its not fair, its not fucking fair. I'm always in pain, our days out end up with you both taking care of me, even if I do use my walking stick. I'm sick of it all, I'm sick of taking painkillers like there a snack, I'm sick of everyone treating me like I'm some china doll that will break at any wrong move. It's exhausting. I'm tired. I hate this so much.”
Both girls stand in slight shock at his vent, yes Kaito had expressed feelings like this before but not in a long while, in fact he had said he was at peace with his illness. Yet it seemed quite the opposite right now, but they could both understand his frustrations.
“I mean even performing my songs is a chore now. I sacrifice my body for weeks so I can sing and dance for at least two hours and let's not mention the violin gathering dust because I can't grip it anymore. What's the point anymore? Am I going to lose this too?” His voice breaking the pair out of their silence.
Meiko moves softly and slowly knowing how to help gently running her hand through his hair gently wiping his tears away. Words aren't spoken there's no point in it, he's too stubbornly independent to accept help in his vulnerable moments like this, they'll have to wait until after so instead Meiko sits quietly comforting him as Luka moves grabbing his safe hoodie and blankets objects he only wears in moments like this. Soon he calms down soft sniffs echo in the room.
Until Lukas voice rings throughout the room.“Kaito.” Tough love she was going to call this next sentence. “You can still enjoy life, you've said it too. We just need to take it easier next time, we can fit our dates to help suit you and your body but you need to help yourself too.. Use your walking stick it's okay too it helps you and you know it, tell us when you need a break from walking, and accept our help. It's okay too.” She sits beside him gently opening his mouth placing his medicine inside before holding up water helping him swallow.
The two help him change into something more comfy before laying up in bed, helping Kaito wrap himself in his blanket before pulling the covers over themselves.A soft loving feeling fills the room as the pair helps Kaito get comfy luka going as far to massage Katios legs as Meiko prepares the hot water bottle for him. Kaito now has his head resting on lukas chest while she plays with his hair, his eyes are closed and he's purring softly from the movement despite everything he feels more warm now, he can feel their love and care he lazily traces shapes on lukas thigh distracting himself while he waits for his meds to fully kick in and the hot water bottle to sooth his hips and lower back. A soft smile sits on Lukas face as she looks at Meiko silently communicating with her.
“Y'know.. Baby we are here for you no matter what, let us help you. I know you're independent and you enjoy being independent, but you need to accept help sometimes too, especially now with your flare ups after going out more are becoming more often.. We love you unconditionally honey.” Meiko speaks softly in a comforting voice rubbing his shoulder. He only hums softly in response, non-verbal from the long day and from still upset but he's not crying anymore enjoying the comfort of his loves. Curled in his comfort blanket with Luka playing with his hair, Meiko shifts again, moving off the bed and rustling in a bag. “Here let me read to you? Would you like that?” She asks in that soft voice he loves so much when like this. He nods slowly keeping his eyes closed and she starts reading. It's almost like she's talking to a child with the tone she's using but that makes it all more comforting to Kaito especially with the soft atmosphere in the bedroom right now.
The three stay close together cuddling as Meiko reads his new book to him, he's completely distracted from the gentle faded pain he was feeling just focusing on Meiko's voice and Lukas movements. Kaito can slowly feel himself falling asleep, with a warm soft smile on his face despite the last hour or so. He's unsure of how much time has actually passed but he does know he feels happy and warm from Meiko and lukas comfort, happy to be with two loving and understanding people.
“I love you both” He whispers before letting himself fall into a deep slumber.
