Work Text:
It was the worst surgery I've ever been in. Nobody was focused. I was doing all the heavy lifting. It was a nightmare, and Richard wasn't helping me when I clearly needed it. Now, because of them, my patient died. Today can not get any worse.
Now, I'm sitting with my back against the wall, in the nurses' office area.
"What's up, Sunshine?" I hear Arizona's perky voice ask.
I look up at Arizona, whose face saddens once she sees me.
"Zona," I mutter, but before I could continue, she sits next to me, and pulls me into her arms.
Her warmth gives me such a sense of safety, I sob, with my head resting on her shoulder.
"Hey, hey," she speaks with comfort and awareness in her voice. "It's ok, Sunshine. It's ok."
Once my crying stops, I sit up, and look at her. Her arms still around me, we stare into each other's eyes for a minute, but it seems like a lifetime. I lean in, until I realize what I'm doing. Then, I pull back in time.
"Oh my gosh. Zona, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to," I say.
She starts giggling. "It's okay. Believe me, it's alright," she says, before she presses a short, but sweet kiss to my lips. "I've wanted to do that for a while," she says, smiling at me.
Her pager beeps before I could say anything. "Oh, I have to go. I'll be a fast as possible. Then, I am taking you out for a night you won't forget. I'm going to turn that frown upside down. I promise, Princess," she says.
I smile and nod my head in approval.
"Wow," I say under my breath.
"You okay?" Meredith asks, looking down at me. She must've been passing by.
"Yeah, I'm... I'm okay," I say before getting up to start walking with her.
