Maralyn, wake up!
Don’t ruffle the feathers that aren't there
Don’t sing the song we can’t hear
Go out into the cage
Drown in the river
The oxygen will hurt you
Don’t forget to sing
But take care to avoid the bitter melody
Do not fly
Dig your roots into the earth
Pluck your feathers
Open your petals for us
We will be the sun
The breeze will be the enemy
Trust us
Listen to us
Follow us between cages
It’s safest
Maralyn!
Go to sleep
Before your feathers grow again
Eat the soil, not the seed
