“Hey, uh…”
Blue eyes flicked up from a stack of impeccably handwritten notes. Upon closer inspection, La’an was pretty sure they were color-coded. “Yes?”
The girl seemed impatient, harried, stressed out. Though, given that it was finals week, the same could have been said of most everyone currently holed up in the library.
“Would you mind sharing your table?” La’an asked, shifting slightly to better distribute the weight of her backpack. She was still being stared at, and it was getting increasingly uncomfortable. “It’s just, I had something come up and my usual spot is already taken. And so is every other spot. Except this one.”
“Depends,” the girl said, frowning as she flicked her ponytail over her shoulder. “Are you always this talkative?”
“No.” La’an was beginning to suspect there was a reason this spot was still free.
The girl didn’t respond, just put her head back down, one manicured fingernail tracing over what appeared to be a particularly long equation.
La’an decided to take that as permission. She set her backpack down on the ground with a soft thud and rifled through it, pulling out her own notes. After all, it wasn’t like this girl owned the table.
