Work Text:

>Ashley waited impatiently at the booth of a diner appropriately named “Eat Quick”.
>Andrew had gone to bathroom and she eagerly awaited her turn.
>She had just ordered drinks for the both of them from a man who looked absolutely ancient and hard of hearing.
>The girl wanted nothing more than to go to the back of the diner and tell her brother to hurry the hell up.
>As fate would have it Andrew came back to his seat across from her not a second later.
>“Bathroom’s all yours.”
>”Took your sweet time in there now did you?” Ashley teased.
>”I was barely in there 5 minutes. Besides it was a long bus ride.”
>”Oh please, it wasn’t that long wuss.”
>”You SLEPT for most of it asshole.” Andrew shot back incredulously
>”Hmm true, but can you blame me? I needed some beauty sleep.”
>Ashley rested a hand under her chin and continued.
>“Don’t I look much prettier well rested?”
>”You look like you have some dried drool on the side of your lip.”
>Ashley smile faded as she got up from her seat with a huff.
>”I’m going to the bathroom. Order me whatever you’re getting.”
>Ashley made her way to the back hallway inspecting her surroundings.
>There was a typical emergency exit.
>To her right, a stock room.
>The stock room in question had its door slightly ajar, enough for Ashley to see their server sleeping on a step ladder.
>She rolled her eyes.
> Finally, to her left she found the bathroom.
>As soon as she turned on the lights the deafening sound of a fan coming to life filled the room and startled Ashley.
>As there seemed to be no way to turn it off she carried on.
>First thing she did was wash her face, inspecting for drool, and thought about how great the situation they were in was.
>Sure they were on the run from the authorities, but now they needed each other more than ever.
>No one will be able to get in the way of that, though she was intent on securing that position even further. >She just wasn’t sure how yet.
>Loud knocks on the door interrupted her thoughts along with some muffled speech.
>It was all indecipherable due to the fan.
>”Hey genius, can’t you tell it’s occupied?”
>Ashley wasn’t sure if the person on the other side heard her but the banging stopped shortly after.
>A couple minutes passed before Ashley finally left the bathroom and exited the back hallway of the Diner.
>Upon taking a few steps back into the main dining area she spotted 2 police officers within shouting distance sitting at one of the booths.
>She slowly backed away, luckily not drawing the attention of either of them.
>Ashley stood at the hallway assessing her situation.
>The police obviously weren’t actively looking for her or Andrew but she wouldn’t be taking her chances going back out there.
>The question that stood above all else was where was Andrew? He was not at the booth and she took another peak at their booth to make sure.
>Ashley was slowly piecing together the chain of events leading to now.
>The police came to the diner and Andrew must’ve left before he was seen.
>Andrew had to have been the one to be knocking at the bathroom to warn her!
>But where was Andrew now? He may have hid somewhere but there weren’t many places to hide here.
>The pondering grave sibling checked the small stock room only finding their server still sleeping. Only now snoring as well.
>Ashley closed the door and looked to the emergency exit door.
>He must have left through that door, and was waiting for her on the other side.
>Though why wouldn’t he have just waited here instead?
>He wouldn’t leave her would he?
>’Nope’, Ashley thought. He had to be right there.
>There’s no way he’d leave her.
>He was stuck with her.
>Ashley burst through the exit door to see the back parking lot with some commercial buildings in the distance.
>She looked around, but saw no sign of her brother.
>”Andrew?”
>She called out wondering how far he could’ve gotten in only around 10 minutes, and if he had truly ditched her.
>The lone Graves sibling was now frantically looking back and forth unable to decide what to do next.
>”Andy!”
>She didn’t care at that moment who heard, she needed to find her other half.
>From around the corner of the building she could see a car approaching.
>Ashley quickly attempted to compose herself, but was confused when the car stopped next to her rolling down their window.
>In the driver seat, she was astonished to see Andrew looking anxiously at her.
>”C’mon get in the car already!”
>Still too surprised to speak, Ashley went around to get in the passenger seat before they sped off onto the highway.
>Ashley was feeling many emotions in that moment like relief and anger.
>The latter eventually winning out as she punched Andrew in the shoulder.
>”Why the hell did you ditch me? I thought you were…gone.”
>”Apparently you were too busy taking a shit to notice me trying to tell you we should go before the cops see us.”
>Andrew rubbed his arm where he was struck.
>“After that I found some guy sleeping in some room so I took his car keys. Hence the car. I was going to come back and get you after I got the car.”
>”Oh....thanks Andy.”
>The Graves siblings stayed in silence for what seemed like hours.
>Andrew was the first to speak up as he glanced over to his sister.
>”I wouldn’t leave you, you know. I’m stuck with you remember? And like we said, as long as you hold up your end of the bargain, you’re stuck with me too.”
>Andrew’s words sent a comforting warmth inside his sibling and Ashley’s signature grin slowly returned.
>”Hmm, I like the sound of that. Also, I think you glossed over the part where you stole this car. Didn’t know you had it in you.”
>”It was pretty easy since I just grabbed the keys from the guy’s front pocket, he barely moved. Besides, isn’t car jacking a step down from…what happened back at the apartment? I’m pretty sure I’m capable of anything to make sure we don’t get caught.”
>”Sure seems like it based on recent events. You know I’d do anything to keep us together too right?”
>Ashley ended her response by laying her hand on Andrew’s that was resting over the car’s middle divider.
>Andrew blushed slightly. He wasn’t sure of the full implications of that statement, but he had an idea of what it meant.
>”…..Yeah I know. I also know your hand is sweaty.”
>Ashley quickly pulled away her hand to feel it with the other, noting it was completely dry.
>”You lying ass! I’ve never sweat from my hands my entire life. Don’t joke about that!”
>The green eyed Grave sibling could only chuckle at his sisters distress.
>In turn, Ashleys expression softened seeing Andrew’s smile.
>She sat back and looked forward at the long highway that preceded them.
>Sure she had some complaints about their current predicament and Andrew’s feelings towards her, or lack thereof.
>They seemed small next to how content she felt with her other half in that moment.
