The sun was setting behind the sea in the small village with the stone houses near the sea. Before the world collapsed and the dead walked on the Earth this village had been abandoned for decades. But now away from the full of zombies and danger big cities around 300 people were surviving here for over a decade. They had their gardens and animals and lived peacefully near the beautiful beaches. After all these fights ,all these losses and the long trip from France to Spain Daryl and Carol decided to stay there for a while before they go back home. It wasn't easy to convince people to accept them in their community and they had to give them their guns for as long as they stayed there. They only allowed them their knifes and the crossbow for hunting animals. It was strange to live in such a peaceful place after all these years of fighting, after all these battles and death. They gave them a house with one room, a bathroom and a small kitchen where Carol would cook whatever Daryl would bring home, mostly fish and meat. Sometimes he would exchange meat and fish for vegetables and fruits, cheese and bread. Carol would sleep on the bed every night while Daryl slept on the sofa at the same room.
Three weeks after their arrival there would be a celebration in the village. People would celebrate the 11 years of the existence of this community. There would be food and drinks and music. A beautiful woman with tanned skin and green eyes offered Carol a deep blue dress to wear.
"It will look great with your eyes" she said. "Your man won't be able to take his eyes off you"
Carol was ready to tell her that he wasn't her man that he was her best friend but something stopped her. It was the fact that she wanted him to be her man, she wanted him to see her beautiful and dressed in this beautiful dress. This realisation hit her hard. This buried desire was painful but she couldn't deny it anymore. The denial was killing her, her love for him was more than friendly and she knew it. But she wasn't enough, she would never be. What could she offer to Daryl? She was a broken person, she had lost too much, she wasn't worthy. A tear slipped her eyes and she wiped it quickly. She had to be strong for Daryl because he deserved happiness and a supportive friend. And maybe one day he would find his woman, maybe she waited back in Commonwealth maybe he would find her somewhere on their way home.
As the sun was setting more and more people were coming to the beach for the celebration. There were tables and chairs and low lights coming from a beach bar they had built in the sand. Daryl had been there early sitting near the bar and drinking wine. It had been an exhausting day but the view of the sun disappearing behind the sea was beautiful, the warm evening summer air was refreshing and smelt of the sea.
His eyes were often wandering around looking for Carol. Would she come? Dhe didn't really socialise too much since they came here. She would rather do housework and when she went out she would spend most of her time in a small hidden beach alone. He had found her there a few times one of them she was crying. He didn't need to ask why, he knew. This woman had suffered too much. He just hugged her and let her cry on his chest.
A woman at her forties approached him. She was a beautiful brunette dressed in a red dress.
"Hey, " she said in English." You are the American right? Can i sit with you?" She asked. Daryl nodded and the woman sat at the table next to him. She started a discussion about how long he planned to stay, if he liked the place and other things. Daryl most of the time just nodded or answered with a yes or no. He had been tired of the discussion when he looked around once more.
Then he suddenly saw her. She was sitting a few tables away. She was wearing a beautiful long blue dress with a deep cut in front that showed a lot of her bosom. He was ready to stand up and go to her when he saw a man approaching her. The man was smiling to her and offered her a drink. She smiled back and accepted the drink. He sat next to her and started chatting. Daryl couldn't take his eyes from them. The woman next to him was chatting endlessly while Daryl was intensely looking at Carol's direction. The man was too friendly for his liking. He was drinking his fourth glass of wine when he saw the man touching Carol's arms and felt that enough is enough.
"That's it" he hit the glass on the table and stood up.
"Excuse me" he said to the woman next to him and walked to Carol's table.
He stood in front of the man and looked at him with a dead serious stare.
"I have something to discuss with the lady." His voice left no space for interpretation. He better leave now or....
The man smiled one last time to Carol and left. Daryl stared at him for a minute as he was leaving then turned to Carol. He didn't speak he just walked a circle around her looking at her up and down. "I wasn't aware you are an eagle Daryl" She said. ""What are you doing?" He whispered in her ear from behind. She turned around to look at him. "What do you mean what i am doing?" "You know what you are doing." He whispered again looking at her eyes and then her lips. He wanted to kiss her so hard. He wanted to show to the whole world that she was his woman. But she wasn't. I drank too much he thought. "You know what are you doing to me" he repeated a little louder this time. She looked confused and hurt. She didn't und what she was accusing her for. "I have no idea what are you talking about" she said.
He was dangerously close to her. She could smell his scent mixed with alcohol and the night summer air. She wanted to ket herself drown in his scent forever. Her back was was touching his chest. It was too much. She went to leave but he caught her arms and pulled her close to him again with her back on his chest. She heard his husky voice in her ear, she felt drank. " You came for me to France. This means something, this must mean something. " He whispered desperate. She turned to look at him again. His eyes were shinning and he was looking at her face with a hungry stare. She wanted him, she wanted him so much. "I have to go" she said.
And she run, she run as much as she could. She arrived at her place, the hidden beach. Tears were streaming from her face and she left a sob. She took off her shoes and got in the sea. The water was still warm from the heat of the day. She felt relaxed in the water and let herself drown and drown. Then she was on the surface again. She looked around and saw Daryl on the beach looking worried. When he saw her his features relaxed. She got out of the sea and approached him.
He caught her hand
"You scared me" he said with a broken voice. "Don't do this again."
They stared at eachother for an eternity. Then they heard music from afar. It was a slow latin song. They couldn't understand the lyrics but the song was an erotic call. He put his hands around her waist and pulled her on him. Her clothes were wet but he didn't care. There, in the moonlight her skin was white like porcelain and her silver hair and blue eyes made her look ethereal.
Te necesito, yo te quiero
Mi vida sin ti es un desierto
"I love you" he said staring deeply into her eyes.
"And i love you too" she said once more, only this time in a more serious tone, like a confession.
And then he kissed her. It was a passionate kiss, a desperate kiss. This kiss was like breath for them. After all these years they were breathing freely. No running, no enemies, no responsibilities just the two of them.
Her lips were salty from the sea and he couldn't stop tasting her. When they felt the need to breathe they stopped and looked at each other again. They knew there was not coming back from this. Nothing would be the same but they didn't care these feelings between them were burning them both.
She slowly started unbuttoning his shirt while he was watching her. When she finished he took it off. He unbuttoned her dress from behind and took it off. His eyes were traveling on her body. She was beautiful, so beautiful. Then she hesitantly unbuttoned his pants and he took them off. They were both naked in the summer night. Carol cupped his face and caressed him. He kissed her once more and then his mouth traveled to her neck. He kissed her and bit her, smelling her wonderful scent while she was moaning in his ear. Her hands caught his erection and stroke him slowly. His response was a loud moaning which made Carol ache more for him.
"Daryl" she whispered."I want you inside me" she pleaded.
Daryl took her in his hands and lied her on the sand. He spread her legs wide and positioned himself in her entrance. She left a loud moan as his cock slipped inside her. It felt perfect. Like both of them were finding a piece that was missing in their life. They were no longer half and this broken world was no more that miserable place it used to be.
Daryl kept thrusting inside her slowly in the begin but faster as the time passed. Carol felt she would come soon.
"Say my name" Daryl whispered and she did say his name loudly in the darkness. After a few thrusts he came inside her shouting her name. They lied both spent at the beach trying to catch their breath.
As they were lying next to eachother Daryl put his hand around her waist and pulled her to his chest.
"People told me i deserve a happy ending." He said looking at her. "This Carol, this is my happy ending"
She smiled
"Mine too." She said
