Why Won't You Listen?

Summary:

[[Day Seven: Blood/Sweat/Tears]]

Martyn wins Limited Life and gets a not so happy celebration. Infact, Ren wants Martyn to join him. Just like old times.

Notes:

Final day!
Note, slightly rushed and It won't make sense if you don't read the other Watcher Ren fic I made. I will note, I had an idea for this with Watcher Ren but ended up throwing it out the window. I still hope it's enjoyable though!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Everything seems wrong this season, Ren was supposed to be here with Martyn. Yet his own king joined them. Those damn watchers..always taking everything from him. He was gonna get Ren back, his king. The one he had loved all the way back in Third Life.

Martyn was determined, his grip tightened on his sword’s hilt. He used some spare wool to create the Dogwarts banner, using a bit to keep his hair out of his face and the rest and decorations. He was done playing games.

Sure, he acted like he was having fun but at the end of the day, he was going to kill everyone like he depended on it. Explosions rained from the sky daily, people being killed left and right. Eventually, it was just three people left.

Martyn, Scott, and Impulse. All down to their final hour. They were discussing how to end this then an idea popped in his head. “I don't wanna play this silly game anymore!” Martyn cried out as he threw lava on his own teammate before stabbing Scott in the heart.

“It doesn't matter if you are a Mean Gill, or a Bad Boy, a neighbor or a clocker!” He spoke as Impulse tried to defend himself, eventually being killed by Martyn's anger. “You're all going down, none of these niceties! This is a death match for a reason!”

He was losing himself but that didn't matter, Martyn was there alone, laughing. “Time is delicious!” His laugh only grew louder as he pointed his bloody sword into the air. Then time stopped. Everything was frozen except him.

This wasn't him, he didn't want to kill them. Then Martyn remembered his motivation, this was all for Ren. His sword soon fell onto the cold, bloody stone as tears started to form. “Unguided Hand,”

Martyn looked up, tears now streaming down his face. Ren stood there, his eyes still hidden by sunglasses. “Ren?” Martyn said softly as he slowly picked himself up. Reaching out for Ren, for his king, for his partner.

Ren laughed manically as he grabbed Martyn's wrist, pulling the new winner closer. His shades had fell, revealing eyes with that purple watcher glow. No longer that pretty blue that Martyn knew. Just that purple symbol for an iris.

“I fought with tooth and nail before the flag had flown..but you were already gone,” Martyn sung in an tone that slowly became more upset. Eventually pulling his arm away from Ren, who paused. “I’ll swear that I loved you.. I'll swear that I loved you~”

“I swear, I swear!” Martyn cried out before he punched Ren on the face. “I’d swear that I loved you! I’d swear that I loved you~” This was his way of getting rid of his anger, both through violence and singing. Then Martyn paused as his next punched as grabbed.

“That's enough, mi hand.” Ren spoke in a demanding tone. His eyes were normal, that soft shade of blue. Martyn unclenched his fist after his king let him go. He looked around and noticed that this wasn't Limited Life anymore.

They were back in Dogwarts. It was snowing, soft snowflakes touched his skin as they landed on him. “You have done enough..it's over now.” Ren said in a soft tone before pulling Martyn in for a tight hug. He was speechless, just frozen. Martyn didn't know if he should hug back but eventually did. Crying into Ren’s shoulder.

“Your comfort last forever.”  Ren spoke up, looking down at Martyn. “What do you mean, m’lord?”

“You seem to have forgotten, listener.” The hybrid smiled, grabbing Martyn’s chin to make him look up. “I'm a watcher now, Martyn..and this is my world now.” Ren's eyes weren’t blue anymore, instead, it was that watcher purple.

He smiled, letting go of Martyn, only to grab the listener again to throw him onto Black Heart Alter. Everything was cold. Freezing even. Martyn looked up at Ren, who was smiling. Eyes fully covered using one of those watcher masks.

Then an axe was slid over to him, an axe that Martyn remembered. “Pick it up.”

“No.”

“What did you say to me, hand?” Ren asked as he stepped forward, towering Martyn who was still on the ground. He was in his Red King outfit, the red was replaced with purple and had the watcher symbol on his crown and coat. “I said no! I'm not doing this again! You aren't Ren, you aren't my king!”

Martyn slowly stood up, both of them were standing face to face. “I'm done with being honorable. I was gonna let you have a fair fight against me but you're too stubborn!” Ren yelled before grabbing the axe himself. The same axe that Martyn had use to tell the server Red Winter is coming.

“How much do I have to do just to get you on my side? It used to be so simple! Why won't you be by my side now?!” Ren seemed manic, but desperate. Martyn knew he didn't want to do this. Yet here Ren was, back in Dogwarts, back at the alter. Roles reversed.

Then everything went black for Martyn, still as cold as it was in Dogwarts. He gasped for air as he woke up, immediately checking his surroundings. He was still on the alter. The Red Winter axe in his hands. Ren was in front of him on his knees. “Mi hand, I ask you to do a terrible terrible thing..”

“No…no no I can't do this again!” Martyn cried out, tears started to fall down his face. Despite how he didn't want to go through this again, it felt like his body wasn't his own. Martyn looked into the blade of the axe, he could see himself and eyes. So many eyes..

He took a step forward, beginning to raise the axe despite how he didn't want to do this. Before he knew it, the deed was done. Martyn quickly dropped the axe. The metal clinked as it hit the dark stone.

This is what Ren wanted..wasn't it? For him to keep him in this cycle of pain until he broke. Martyn felt something grab his hand, Ren was back. Not the same one that he decapitated but Watcher verison who still with that same damn smile.

“So? Are you gonna keep being stubborn, Martyn?” The watcher asked, eyes appearing all over him. “Ren, why did you let them do this..? This isn't the Ren I know! This isn't the Ren I fell for..”

Ren sighed, looking away from Martyn. “I really trying to do this without you suffering. I can't watch pretty things wilt away. Do this for me, do this for yer king. Join me”

“No, Ren. I'm not doing this! I'm going to save you. One way or another. I don't know what happens to me, as long as you are free from those damn watchers! I swear.” Martyn pushed Ren away, giving himself space.

“Then I'm not sorry for whatever I put you through.”

Notes:

Martyn deserves better, so much better. To be fair, I have been letting him be too happy for the last two fics. (Treebark fics) He deserves to be a bit traumatized. Still feel bad though.. ;-;
