Work Text:
One day, in the library, Hermione Granger was trying to carry all of the books she was gathering to pass by all the extra time she had, and Madam Pince was getting really annoyed because Hermione kept dropping them.
“Ms. Granger, you must be careful,” whispered Madam Pince. “I'm sorry Madam, I just want to check out all of these books,” Hermione said.
“Hermione, maybe I can help you,” said one of her best friends, Harry Potter.
“No, I'm fine,” she said behind a stack of books.
“Are you sure?” said her other best friend, Ronald Weasley. “You look like you're struggling.”
“I said I'm fine.”
As she wobbled to check out the books, she slipped on something and the books fell on her arm.
“Ow!” she said, rubbing her arm.
“Hermione! Are you ok?!” Harry and Ron asked as they leaned over to her.
“I’m alright. I just fell.” she said as she tried to pick up her books.
“OW!” she said as she howled in pain and dropped her books again.
“Oh dear. We better get you to the hospital wing.” said Madam Pince as she ran over. “Boys help Ms. Granger up. I will go tell Madam Pomfrey that you are coming.”
“Thank you Madam Pince.'' Harry said.
When they got to the hospital wing, Madam Pomfrey had a bed all ready for Hermione. After Madam Pomfrey scanned Hermione’s arm, she said that Hermione had a broken arm, and that it would take a day to properly heal, so she would have to stay at the hospital wing for the night.
“We will bring you some of everything so you can choose what you want to eat for dinner.” said Ron.
“Thank you boys.” said Hermione, with a painful smile. “How can I ever thank you?”
“Don’t hurt yourself again,” said Harry.
“I’ll try. But no promises.”
“All right.” said Harry as they all laughed.
The next day arrived faster than ever.
By lunch, Hermione’s arm was all healed, and she could restart her studies.

The next day, they went back to the library to get the books Hermione needed. This time Ron had a plan.
“Hermione...” Ron said, “...I have an idea for carrying your books. Sort them into three piles, as evenly as we can get it. Start with putting all the big books into a pile, then the medium sized books, and then do the small books. Then separate those three piles into three more piles of each book's size. Finally, put one of the stacks of medium books onto the large books, and do the same with the small books. We will have three evenish stacks of books, and can each carry a pile!” he finished.(sorry if this paragraph is hard to picture or understand)
“Thanks for the offer, but I'll try again.” Hermione said.
The same thing happened, and she got reprimanded by Madam Pince and Madam Pomfrey for continuing to cause a disruption, even after they told her not to.
Two days later, they went back to the library and Harry suggested a different plan.
“Hermione, what if you just use magic to carry the books, that way you don't have to carry them, and neither do we.” Harry suggested.
“That is actually brilliant Harry! Why didn’t I think of that?” Hermione said excitedly.
“Because you’re a mudblood,” Draco Malfoy laughed maniacally, as he walked past.
“Piss of Malfoy!” Ron spat.
Draco strode off cockily.
Hermione listened to Harry’s plan, got her books checked out safely, and never carried a giant stack of books again.
