Work Text:
Payu wouldn’t consider himself a jealous man; cocky, bossy, and stern for sure, but jealous? He was not! That being said, he found himself becoming increasingly jealous of the most unlikeliest person. A 10 year old little girl. His kid sister. Nong Thunder.
Ever since she moved in with him and Rain she had taken up a huge percentage of Rain’s freetime. It wouldn’t be much of an issue if Rain had bountiful freetime to share. He was busy finishing up his internship to close out his Architectural Master’s program so most of his time was spent on extensive projects from the firm he worked with. And Payu was a busy man as well, still working in his auto garage and working full time at an architect firm. Their time together was precious and scarce and nowadays when they were both available, Thunder would swoop in and STEAL Rain’s attention from him. Little thief.
Payu felt ashamed for even being jealous of his own sister. She moved in with them because his parent’s liked the schooling system in the city better than the rural area they lived in. Payu was ecstatic to have her there at first because he hadn’t physically seen his sister in almost 3 years and he missed her terribly.
But she had only been with them for a few short months and was already super taken with Rain…like OBSESSED with his boyfriend. Everything is always “P’Rain this” and “P’Rain that.” Payu had never been so annoyed than when he heard, “Nong Thunder,” coming from Rain’s lips.
Never in his entire life had Payu ever wished to be younger than someone before. He wondered what it would sound like if Rain called him, “Nong Payu.” If he wasn’t so annoyed he might have blushed at the thought. He was filing this facet to explore for another day.
There he sat in a quiet park waiting for Rain to show up for their scheduled date. He had planned a picnic for them, he figured something outside would be good for the both of them. He had it set up nicely too; a thick soft blanket, some light finger foods, and soft music playing from a portable speaker. He was dressed in a casual half-buttoned shirt and jeans, signature bun in place, and expensive sunglasses shielding his angry eyes. He looked good enough to eat and Rain was nowhere in sight to do it. He had been waiting for Rain to join him for 29 minutes, he was counting. Rain had called him and said he took a detour to pick HER up from his mother’s house.
He did his best to choke his annoyance down. He just didn’t understand why SHE didn’t want to stay with Rain’s mother? She ADORED Rain’s mom and Rain’s mom felt like Thunder was the daughter she always wanted.
He sat up when he heard his name being shouted in the distance. He saw Rain approaching him dressed in loose fitting tan trousers and a white t-shirt. Tendrils of his dark hair framed his perfect face, he was letting his hair grow out and Payu was enjoying every stage of it. He looked just like an angel.
Payu could see his boyfriend leading his baby sister by the hand. She was skipping behind him in soft pink overalls and a yellow striped shirt, a dark pink bucket hat covering her long dark hair. She looked cute but Payu had never seen any of those clothes she was wearing which meant Rain took her shopping with Payu’s card again.
She was happily babbling to Rain about something. She didn’t care that she was crashing his date. She wasn’t even looking at him, she was too busy shooting heart eyes at HIS boyfriend.
Kids these days.
He leaned back on an elbow as his boyfriend plopped down on the blanket beside him. “P’Payuuuu,” he cutely whined as he sidled up beside his peeved boyfriend, none the wiser, “I’m so sorry I’m late! Mama said Thunder wouldn’t stop crying for you.”
Payu was surprised by that, “For me?” he asked, pointing to himself. Rain nodded as Thunder settled down on the blanket on her brother’s other side, one of the straps of her oversized overalls drooping over her shoulder a bit. “I missed you P’Payu,” she said, shooting him an adorable smile. She hugged his arm and batted her little girl eyelashes at him. She knew what she was doing. Little mastermind.
Payu lifted his sunglasses up and glowered at his sister, “Sure you did.” He gently shook her off and nudged her shoulder with his elbow. She shrugged her shoulders and turned her attention back to Rain, “P’Rainnnnn, I’m hungry,” she whined. Rain nodded and smiled widely at her. “Ok Nong Thunder, how about a yummy sandwich?” he asked and reached for one of the triangle cut finger sandwiches to pass to her. Payu thought about smacking the sandwich out of Rain’s hand as he watched them pass it over his lap like he wasn’t sitting between them. He rolled his eyes behind his sunglasses when Rain lovingly patted her head.
Rain could tell his boyfriend was peeved. He felt awful for being so late.
“P’Payu, everything looks amazing! Let me feed you! What would you like to eat first?” When Payu didn’t answer Rain tugged on his sleeve, “P’Payuuuu, let Rain feed you. Please?” he cutely begged. Payu couldn’t stop his grin and he nodded, “I want some watermelon,” he told him nodding at the section of fruit he brought.
Rain stretched to grab the container filled with watermelon balls and settled behind Payu. He pulled on his boyfriend’s shoulders, getting Payu to lean back into his lap. “Comfy?” he asked. Payu relaxed against the younger man’s chest, content. Rain popped the lid on the fruit and picked up one of the little balls and held it to Payu’s lips. “Don’t worry P’Payu, my hands are clean!”
Payu eagerly ate the watermelon, catching Rain’s fingertip between his lips. It was sweet or maybe it was Rain that tasted sweet. He sighed happily, Rain sure knew how to treat his man. “Can I go play on the swingset?” Thunder piped up beside the pair, “It’s getting a little too explicit over here.”
Rain nodded, “I’ll call you when it’s time to leave,” he told her before holding another watermelon ball to Payu’s lips. He pressed a soft kiss to Payu’s temple. Even though the picnic was for him, Rain decided to pamper Payu for the rest of it.
Rain thought that he was in the clear after the picnic. The three of them traveled home together. Rain sat in the backseat with Thunder because she said she wanted to lean on him to sleep comfortably. He had even convinced her to go back over to his mother’s house for the rest of the weekend with the promises of a movie date and spa day with her. Rain could tell Payu needed a break from his hyperactive sister and just agreed without thinking to get her to say yes.
Payu and Rain visited with Rain’s parents for a few minutes. Mama Rain went down the list of activities she had planned for Thunder and how excited she was to be caring for her. Mama Rain spent an extra 10 minutes gushing about how much she adored Payu and was sooooo happy she had a man like him as her son-in-law. She passed on a basket of homemade food for them and they left.
Imagine Rain’s surprise at how snippy Payu was to him when they returned home. “This was such a fun day P’Payu! Thanks for the picnic!” Rain said as he stretched his arms high above his head. He flopped down on the giant black leather couch in the living room and waited for Payu to join him. “I’m glad SOMEONE had fun,” Payu griped before stalking past his lover, heading towards the kitchen.
Rain raised shocked brows and watched Payu slam the basket of food on the counter. “P’Payu? Are you angry?” Rain queried as he made his way into the kitchen. “Oh, you noticed? I’m surprised you still care about me,” Payu snapped. Rain wrapped his arms around his grumbling boyfriend from behind and asked, “Why are you so pissed off?”
Payu snatched Rain’s arms from around him and said, “Just forget it,” before stalking out of the kitchen and back into the living room. “P’Payu wait!” Rain called as he followed behind his lover. He grabbed a hold of Payu’s elbow and yanked him down onto the couch and quickly climbed into the man’s lap before he could escape.
He straddled Payu’s thighs and pinned his arms down to the back of the couch. “Rain,” Payu called in a warning tone, “Get up.” Rain shook his head, dark hair flying everywhere. “No! Not until you tell me what’s wrong with you.”
Payu glared at Rain and said his name in warning again. Rain shot him a fiery look back and didn’t budge, “Tell me!” Rain demanded. Payu sighed loudly and carefully said, “Lately it feels like you don’t have enough time for me because you’re giving it all away to HER.”
Rain looked at his boyfriend puzzled, “HER?” he echoed, tone and all. Rain frowned and thought about it, the only HERs he spent time with these days was his mother and Thunder and Payu had never been this way about Mama Rain. “Thunder?” he asked with raised brows. Payu looked away, suddenly feeling ridiculous. How could he admit that he was jealous of his 10 year old sister and sound sane?
“Are you jealous of your sister?” Rain asked incredulously. “No,” he immediately denied, “I just don’t like that you’re giving her so much more attention over me.” That was better? Less ridiculous he was sure. Rain grinned and yelled, “YOU’RE JEALOUS OF NONG THUNDER!” before bursting into laughter. In a flash Payu snatched his arms free and flipped Rain onto his back. He climbed on top of Rain and held his wrists down into the firm cushions.
“It’s not funny,” he growled, “I’m really upset.”
Rain swallowed down his laughter but kept his amused grin, “Why are you jealous of a little girl P’Payu?” he asked. “Because it feels like she’s replacing me in your heart,” Payu admitted. “What? She is not!” Rain quickly replied. He couldn’t believe they were even arguing about this. “Are you sure? Because ever since she came you’ve been spending all your time with her. You’re even canceling plans with me or showing up late. I feel like I’ve become a third wheel in my own damn relationship.”
Rain silently thought about it. He had been practically glued to Thunder’s side for the past few months and he had shown up late to a few of their dates…and even canceled a few times. Payu was correct, but it was not because he liked Thunder more. “It’s not because I like Thunder more than you, P’Payu,” he said. “Then what is it? What’s going on? Why do you keep leaving me hanging Rain?” Payu asked him, “Why am I feeling like a stranger in my own house?”
He let go of Rain’s wrists and sat upright on the couch again. Rain sat up and crawled back into his boyfriend’s lap. “P’Payu, Nong Thunder’s first weekend here I found her crying in her room. She said some of the kids in her class were picking on her for the dialect she spoke in and the way she dressed,” Rain revealed to his boyfriend. Payu was shocked and a little angry again. Who dared to pick on his sweet little sister? “Why didn’t you tell me?” Payu demanded.
“Because she asked me not to. She knows how busy you are and how hard you work and she didn’t want to stress you out. She was having a hard time adjusting and didn’t know who she could talk to so I made myself more available to her…at least until she felt comfortable with her new surroundings. I even took her shopping to buy some new clothes,” Rain explained, “Didn’t you see the charges on your credit card?”
He did see the charges but he thought Rain was spoiling her. “I did but I thought you were spoiling her.” Rain shrugged, “Maybe I was a little. She’s so friggin’ cute and she looks exactly like you P’Payu, it’s hard for me to deny her.” Payu liked that, “She reminds you of me?” he asked, allowing his hands to rest on Rain’s thighs. Rain nodded and snaked his arms around Payu’s shoulders, “She’s basically your twin. I bet you looked just like her when you were 10. I think about you every time I look at Thunder.”
Payu was flattered and feeling loved again. Rain rested his forehead against Payu’s. “I’m sorry P’Payu, for making you feel like this,” he apologized, “You know I love you the most in this entire world. You’re my hubby and a wifey is supposed to love his hubby the most.”
Payu grinned and gripped Rain by his waist, pulling him into a hug, “Then you better start treating me right before I find another wifey,” he playfully threatened. Rain fixed his boyfriend with a glare, “Don’t even joke like that P’Payu because I will chop off your little friend if you dare try,” he threatened back, though he was NOT playing. Payu chortled and hugged Rain tightly to his chest, giving him a sniff kiss on both his cheeks.
Now Rain was annoyed. “You can let me go now,” he said as he tried to free himself. Payu smirked and shook his head slowly, “No you’ve been a very naughty boy and I think it’s time for a punishment.” Payu stood up and Rain immediately wrapped his legs around his boyfriend’s waist. Payu held Rain up by his ass and headed towards the stairs. “P’Payuuuu noooo! I’ve been on my best behavior,” Rain whined while clinging to Payu’s shoulders.
“I think I need to remind you of who you belong to.”
