Work Text:
She stands before the mirror, In a dress she’d bought for him. Of course she bought it for him, to make him smile.
Stupid, stupid, stupid…
It was better this way
He would never, and could never know about how she cried for hours, alone in the dark following their break-up. Her soul was dead, and her heart shattered.
It was better this way she thought, because Erik was right.
Erik was always right. Ever since her teens years in the brotherhood he’d been right.
“He’ll only grow to resent you” he told her during one of their sessions in the danger room.
And why wouldn’t he. A man like Remy LeBeau deserved to be loved wholly and fully in every way he deserved. In ways she couldn’t thanks to her curse.
“He’ll wind up like Cody, or worse”
And that thought killed her inside more than anything else ever could.
So she masks her tear stained cheeks and dark puffy eyes behind heavy make-up.
So she’ll make him hate her tonight. That way he’ll be safe from harm, and someday be happy and alive.
And she will do her penance at the side of the devil alone
