Eldritch Hours As A Treat

Summary:

Danny gets hit in the face with random ghost puberty that results in some moderate body horror that no one thinks is terrifying.

Notes:

For EchoGhost who prompted: Danny starts to change into something a bit more monstrous. Your choice on what changes, if both forms or just his ghost form, and why they are happening at all (ghost puberty, curse, Fenton invention, something else??)
And also for Huxley who prompted: Sometimes you just gotta be an eldritch horror.

Work Text:

Danny makes a face.

Which normally isn't a big deal.

However he had just bitten into his Nasty Burger and a very loud crunch was heard.

Very slowly Danny chews, continuing to make almost Looney Tunes level of crunching noises.

“Dude what even?” Tucker asks, own mouth full of fries.

“Did Valerie fill your burger with rocks again?” Sam frowns.

Danny shakes his head as he grabs a napkin to spit out the mouthful.

“Bluh no I mean maybe?” He says, lips a bright red.

Sam and Tucker stare at his face as he opens the napkin.

“Your mouth is bleeding,” Tucker says.

“I think most of my teeth fell out.”

Sam grabs Danny's face to open his mouth.

“Ahng-” Danny whines an attempt of her name.

“Dude, your mouth looks like a sharks.”

“That's not gross or anything,” Tucker scrunches his nose as he pulls out more napkins from the holder. “Can you be any more blasé about smearing blood everywhere?”

Danny puts his hands on Sam’s wrists to pull her off his face. He makes a different face at the amount of blood on her hands.

“Gross.”

“It’s yours and it’s not the first time I’ve been wrist deep in it,” Sam makes the same face back at him.

“Can I please remind the both of you that we are currently in public ,” Tucker hisses, shoving the tissues between them.

Danny balls the filled napkin inside the fresh ones before rubbing his face. Sam shrugs and gets up from the booth, turning towards the bathroom.

“You missed a spot,” Tucker comments, tapping his cheek.

“Thanks,” Danny grabs a fresh napkin to scrub at his cheek. He stops after one swipe, the original face coming back. He works his jaw for a second before spitting another tooth out.

“This is getting old fast,” he grumbles.

Tucker winces, “Does it hurt?”

“No, it’s just…” he frowns. “Feels like Boxy trying to punch me.”

“I don't know if that says more about how weak Boxy is or how bullshit your pain tolerance is.”

“Do I even want to know,” Valerie asks, as she stops next to the booth.

“Danny is losing his baby teeth,” Tucker says.

Valerie blinks.

“You’re too old to still have those,” she says.

Danny kicks Tucker under the table making him jump, “You’re right, I totally don’t have any of those.”

“What are you doing here,” Sam asks.

“Uh, I work here,” Valerie rolls her eyes. “And I need to know if we have a biohazard here that needs a deep clean.”

“Probably,” Tucker says and gets kicked again. “What? Man, you’re the one with a waterfall of blood for a mouth right now.”

Danny’s eyebrows pinch, he opens his mouth to respond before snapping it shut with a very audible crunch.

Blood dribbles from the corner of his mouth.

“Fenton?” Valerie’s voice turns to something close to concern.

“We should just go,” Sam says, grabbing Danny’s elbow and pulling him out of the seat.

“Wait, hold on, Danny, are you okay?” Valerie puts her hands out to stop them but freezes before making contact.

“It’s none of your business, Red, don’t think we forgot how you reacted when you found out-”

Danny wipes his mouth with his hand, subtly spitting out more teeth.

“It’s whatever, Val, don’t worry about it,” he says.

Tucker grabs the original ball of napkins and the napkin holder as he gets to his feet.

Sam shoves past, knocking her back a step, pulling Danny along. Tucker ducks past as he follows them out the door.

Outside, Tucker falls into step with them and holds out the dirty ball, “You so owe me for touching your ick.”

“Thanks Tuck,” Danny offers a wet smile.

“Dude can we fix your mouth first before anything else?”

“Do you want to keep your teeth?” Sam asks, eyeing the napkins.

“No, not really…why?”

“No reason.”

“Please tell me you're not going to use them in some sort of creepy spell.”

“Me? Creepy spells? You must have me confused with someone else,” she scoffs, dramatic.

“I think you’re taking the whole goth thing to a new level of weird,” Tucker says.

“You’re weird,” she snaps back.

“No, I’m suave, ” he waggles his eyebrows.

“And you said, we’re gross.”

“Look, Danny my man, you know I would do anything for you, including helping you stitch up your back, but there is a very. Solid. Line of where and when I’m willing to put on the bravado of dealing with your innards.”

Sam and Danny look at each other and shrug.

“There is something wrong with you two.”

“All three of us, you mean,” Danny smiles. Blood coats his now very sharp, way too many teeth.

“You really do look like a shark,” Tucker frowns.

“Are all of your human teeth out now?” Sam asks.

Danny frowns, working his jaw and mouth. He stops for a second to shake his head minutely.

He does something that results in a loud pop noise before spitting out a molar.

“That’s the last one.”

“Cool, does that mean you’re done being a waterfall of blood?” Tucker offers the napkin holder.

“Eh, hopefully,” he shrugs.

The trio turn into the park, heading to a quiet spot away from the foot traffic.

“Cool, does that mean I can freak out now?” Tucker asks.

“Wait, let me sit down for this,” Sam says as she picks out a good spot of grass.

Danny joins her.

“Comfy?” Tucker asks, leaning over the both of them.

“Yes, you may proceed with the freak out,” Sam waves a hand in a very posh manner.

“Thank you,” he bows his head for a moment.

“What the actual fuck is going on Danny? Why are you turning into a Jaws knock off parody? Are you okay???

“Seriously dude this is a new level of ick and gross and way too close into the human anatomy that I very much do not want a part of.

“Like, my dude, you know I've got your back but can you please just be normal for five minutes? Just five minutes to have some greasy burgers in peace? No? Is that so hard to ask?”

“What’s next, are you gonna sprout wings? Claws? Is your nose gonna fall off like Voldy-face?”

Sam snorts at that.

“And you, don’t even get me started. Seriously, how can you be so blasé about shoving your hands into Danny’s actively bleeding mouth?”

“I mean,” she picks at some of the dried blood in her cuticles, “I shoved his spleen back into his body just last week, and the week before we duct taped his shin bone together. I don’t think there’s anything else that could gross me out now.”

In public?! With normal people??

Sam winces.

“It’s not that bad,” Danny raises his hands. “You grabbed all my teeth and stuff so it’s not like anyone can say anything other than I was being gross.”

“Valerie knows something is wrong!”

“Well yeah when you tell her such an obvious lie.”

“I panicked! What else was I supposed to say when you were losing your teeth so fast?” Tucker puts his hands over his ears, ducking his head. “Ancients, I’m gonna have so many nightmares from this.”

“You don’t have nightmares,” Sam comments.

“Yet! Teeth are their own genre of horror.”

“I thought Frighty said your worst nightmare was-”

“We are not gonna talk about that!”

Sam rolls her eyes at him, leaning back.

“Okay, but Valerie isn’t gonna say shit. Especially after the whole pudding debacle.”

“As if the rest of this insane town won't?”

“I'm a Fenton, what else are they gonna say about me?”

Sam tilts her head in his direction.

“Besides,” Danny continues, “it's not the strangest thing I've done in public.”

“That shit you pulled at the library was pretty insane,” Sam acknowledges.

“Really? I thought that was tame compared to the water park gelatin party,” Danny turns to look at her.

“Why is this my life?” Tucker bemoans.

“Cause you love us,” Sam says.

“And we keep you from turning into a tyrant Pharoah on the full moon,” Danny adds.

“That's not what happens and you know it.”

Sam laughs, “Okay, okay, let's backtrack a bit. There were some very valid concerns made.”

“Some?” Tucker repeats.

“Specifically,” she ignores him to turn to Danny. “ Are you okay? And are there other things we need to worry about?”

Danny rubs the back of his neck, looking away, “I mean, I feel fine? And my jaw's stopped itching.”

“When was it itchy?”

“After my teeth fell out.”

“Is anything else…itchy?”

“No but space looks weird to me.”

Sam and Tucker stare at him.

“What?”

“You’re gonna have to elaborate on that one.”

“Oh, uh, like the space between things are weird looking.”

There’s a beat of silence as they wait for him to say more.

“Try again.”

“Okay, uh, it’s like…I know you’re right in front of us Tuck, but you also look like you're a football field away.”

“What.”

“I dunno! It’s just weird!”

“Why don’t you show us?” Sam gestures.

Danny huffs but gets to his feet. Tucker joins Sam on the grass and pulls out his PDA to take notes.

“Okay…uh…” Danny looks around, scratching his head.

“Oh!” He points across the clearing. “How far would you say the trees over there are?”

“Like fifty feet give or take?” Sam says.

“Right, definitely further than say, three steps, right?”

Sam and Tucker blink.

Danny holds his hands up at them and walks three steps backwards.

His back hits a tree.

On the opposite end of the clearing.

“What the actual-”

Danny walks normally back to them, crossing the same space with many more normal looking steps.

“That is so trippy,” Tucker says.

“Is that everywhere?” Sam asks.

“No? Yes? The weirdness moves.”

“Moves how?”

“I dunno, it just moves.”

“So you can basically teleport?” Tucker asks.

“No? I’m just walking? It’s space getting all wonky on me.”

“What does it look like?”

“The back rooms but not?”

Sam looks at Tucker, “Danny found a way to break something that wasn’t supposed to break.”

Tucker groans, “Is this like when you broke time? Is the space-time continuum actually broken for you?”

Danny looks to the side.

“Oh my- Danny, can you not break physics on me? I like physics. Physics makes sense.

“It’s not my fault they were already broken!”

“No they absolutely were not.”

“They were, I just couldn’t see it before.”

Tucker gapes.

Danny shrugs.

Sam claps her hands, “Okay so space-time is broken, you have a face full of shark teeth, what else is different?”

“I think I could teach you how to break space-time?”

“No.” Sam and Tucker say simultaneously.

Danny laughs.

“Dude, your tongue is black.” Tucker says.

“Is it?” Danny sticks out his normal looking tongue.

“Looks normal to me,” Sam says.

“I swear it looked black when you were laughing, are you turning into a demon?”

Danny frowns. With the usual flash of light, he transforms into Phantom. No obvious difference from his usual appearance can be seen.

“I’m still me, so pretty sure I’m still just a ghost.”

“You’re anything but just a ghost,” Sam says. But she gets up to walk around him.

“Oh wise and observant person that thou are,” Danny’s voice pitches into over dramatic old timey posh, “Pray tell, does mine appearance change grotesquely?”

Tucker snorts as Sam hits him in the shoulder. Well, attempts to hit as her hand passes harmlessly through it.

“Other than more smoke and less solid, no,” she comments.

Frowning, she reaches out to move his hair, “Your ears are pointier than usual.”

“I would say the black sclera is different,” Tucker tilts his head. “But I swear they were normal a second ago.

Danny blinks and looks at Sam.

“They look normal to me?”

They both turn back to Tucker with matching frowns.

“Do you maybe need your eyes checked, Tuck?” Danny asks.

“I know I’m not wigging,” Tucker gets to his feet to grab Danny’s face.

He turns it side to side, up, down and up again.

Danny obligingly allows his face to be turned in each direction for all of ten seconds.

“Seriously?” he whines, pulling away.

“There! Your eyes went black again!” Tucker points.

“So random color changing…are you actually a chameleon?” Sam asks.

“Uh, maybe?” Danny floats a little as he concentrates. His hair floats a little more dramatically but nothing else changes.

“Ghibli hair when thinking hard is back,” Sam stage whispers to Tucker.

“Do you think it’ll sparkle again?” he stage whispers back.

Danny frowns, hair dropping back into its usual shape, “You guys are the worst.”

“I mean, we can go back to screaming in horror at you, for old times sake?” Sam offers.

“Hard pass,” Danny flops backwards to float in the air.

“Does the shark teeth carry over to this form?” Tucker asks.

Danny rolls over to bare his teeth.

His very many, very sharp pointy teeth.

“Yup that's still so weird.”

Sam grabs Danny’s face and opens his mouth. Which opens far more that it should, mouth stretching to his ears.

“How do you even fit this many teeth in here?” she asks.

Danny makes a noise deep in his throat that's a cross between a growl and a whine.

“He does make a valid point,” Tucker comments, inching closer to look.

Danny squints at him but otherwise doesn’t move.

Tucker pales and leans back. “You have teeth in your throat dude. That’s fucked up.”

“I think it’s cool,” Sam says, letting go. Danny’s mouth returns to its usual size. “If you lose any of these teeth, can I have them?”

“Why,” Tucker’s voice pitches half an octave higher.

“They’re not yours, I was asking Danny,” she sniffs.

Danny swallows a few times, rubbing his cheek. “Okay, then let me ask, why do you want them?”

“Cause I can have an eco friendly, marine safe shark tooth necklace.”

“Why?”

“Cause they’re cool?”

“I thought shark teeth jewelry were more surfer vibes not goth?” Tucker asks.

“But these would be ghost shark teeth.” Sam gestures at Danny’s face.

“I could get you teeth from a megalodon,” Danny offers.

“Those are like the size of my face, no thanks,” Sam frowns.

Danny shrugs.

“I didn’t think they were that big,” Tucker frowns, tapping at his PDA.

“I mean, they’re not, but they are stupidly big for a necklace.”

“Okay, point.”

“My back is itchy,” Danny announces.

“Like your jaws were itchy?” Tucker asks.

Danny wobbles his head, not quite a nod, not quite a shake.

It is a distinctly uncomfortable looking motion.

Sam and Tucker move to his sides to look at his back but not directly behind him.

“Is it a new power kind of itch?” Sam asks, putting a hand on his shoulder.

“Not even close,” he says, bending forward a little.

His back jerks in a way that looks like something is trying to break out of his skin.

“Oh no, no no no, I did not sign up for this shit,” Tucker says, backing up several paces.

“Tuck,” Sam chastises.

“I think,” Danny groans, bending a little more, “That you should also back up.”

Sam blinks before skipping backwards several paces to put space between them.

Danny’s back pulses again, larger and pointer.

“Danny, man, please tell me you didn’t eat an alien or something,” Tucker calls from where he’s half hiding behind a tree.

Danny laughs before cutting off sharply as his back pulses again.

Long spindly things break through his suit, shooting up into the air.

They bend, cracking like glass, curling down to the sides of his back.

And then they pull apart.

Like hands stretching the opening.

Ripping Danny in half.

Something only sort of resembling a human shape pulls out the rest of the way. Resembling in that it had a head, a torso, arms that bent at what could be elbows, and something akin to hands at the end.

But that’s where the similarities ended.

Bright green eyes recessed in a face of black ichor, mouth full of shark teeth. Hair made of misting dry ice, that moved like hair submerged under water.

Arms too long, hands too big and fingers even longer. The initial black color dripping off to show iridescent white ice.

What was Danny originally melts into a green mist that wraps around the long ghostly tail of the new…creature.

It sits for a long moment, balancing on its hands in the grass.

“Danny?” Sam calls.

The creature- Danny turns his head and blinks at her. He offers a close lipped smile before looking down at his hands.

“Holy fuck,” Tucker half whispers, stepping out from behind his tree, “That was the most disgusting thing I have ever seen.”

“You mean the coolest thing,” Sam says, walking back over to Danny.

“You and I have very different definitions of the word ‘cool,’” Tucker says, hedging closer.

Danny works his jaw, mouth opening and closing.

“You say tomayto, I say tomahto,” Sam shrugs.

“Are you actually scared,” Danny says, voice sounding more like a broken radio than normal.

Sam and Tucker frown.

“Oh dude, your new voice is ow,” Tucker says, walking closer.

Danny tilts his head without actually moving.

“Mm nope, that’s also fuckey, please stop,” Tucker whines, pulling his glasses off to rub his eyes.

Danny laughs, head shaking with mirth as white mist drapes his form condensing into the familiar blinding flash.

Human looking Danny stands between them, still laughing.

“Oh your teeth are normal again,” Sam says.

“I feel good, didn’t realize how itchy my everything was,” Danny smiles.

“Good, that means there won’t be any more body horror bullshit, right?” Tucker asks.

Danny shrugs, “For now.”
