Work Text:
“Morax…Are you that desperate for a seat among the seven?”
“Everyone is, Osial.”
The tides were raising, the earth was trembling.
glowing orange piercing into fading blue.
Spilled blood, fake contracts.
Friends turning into faceless obstacles.
Sealed away, an eternal fate for one’s gain.
“This entire war is pointless! Things will go back to normal like they always do.”
“That is unrealistic, Havria. A new era is beginning, and you’ll need to become stronger to see it through.”
Grains of salt contained into a small vile.
The vile cracks, observed by inpatient mortals.
They poke and poke at the single crack, the entire vile shatters.
The salt spills slowly, teaching earth about failed contracts.
“Ashes to ashes, dust to dust…Morax, I predict my fate is upon me. I ask of you to take our people to the harbor and protect Liyue from all outside forces. One final contract in my name, yes?”
“It shall be done…my love.”
Two lovers, torn apart in a land so familiar.
War bonds, alliances that won’t last.
Broken dreams of a better tomorrow.
The earth stands tall as the dust falls.
....
There are familiar faces on the mortals of this age.
Childe, Hu tao, Ningguang.
Why are they intimate yet so...distant? Reincarnation is supposed to be the rebirth of one’s soul, so do they still share the memories of the times we had together? Of their demises? Of who brought that demise? They are now their own people after all, new occupations, likes, dislikes, lovers...
But nevermind that, the war is over. And some things are better left for interpretation, mainly because I have no one else to discuss my ramblings with.
Perhaps, I shall walk alongside them as a mortal also, I want to experience rivalry again, parenthood, love. Things I couldn't bring myself to indulge in for the longest time. Maybe I'll be reunited with them one day, when I depart from this world.
Perhaps this shall be my final contract.
....
First it was Childe, then Ningguang, and now…Hu tao.
Childe was predictable, the foul legacy transformation was a strain on his body, yet he would never let himself recover.
Ninngguang was a shock to the whole harbor, poisoned at her own dinner in celebration of the new jade chamber.
Hu tao... was fault of no individual or self-infliction. Fate purely took its course and struck her with the same miasma that wiped out 1/4 of Liyue harbor. The plague had a great effect on all parties. Nobody knows what directly caused it
The people in Liyue always said that a parent should never have to bury their child, I should’ve paid more attention to their words.
When I stood over her grave, I could only think of my idiocy for believing a mortal could take the place of my adopted offspring for all eternity and never suffer the mortal's ultimate curse called death. That is the true pain. Believing that mortals simply gain immunity while in the gazing eye of a higher being. I do not fully believe I was wrong to build these connections though, I have learned much more in those short years than i did while conversing and waring with other immortal beings who silently agreed with our desire for mortal relationships. Death is not the end though, their soul will become one with the universe then return back to Liyue. To me. I will see those that I care about again, even if their face does not resemble the hundreds before them that inhabited that same soul. I would do this entire process over and over again even if it means I risk losing myself in the process. My erosion is a slow process, but I want to make the most of my life before it is gone from the framework of this universe.
