Work Text:
I love you...
It was the last thing he said before he had to kill him.
Before his world turned grey.
Before he wasn't like he used to be.
No... He shouldn't be thinking like this. He was the strongest. They were the strongest...
His hands shook as he stared at the lifeless body that laid before him. He did it. He killed his best friend. He had done as he was asked, like usual. But it hurt this time. It had reopened a wound that hadn't healed properly yet.
He had felt like this before. Everything had turned black and white before.
A few years ago, when he left him.
That's when he had stopped being the strongest.
The knife in his hand clattered against the hard stone floor as he dropped to the ground.
"I'm sorry." He said, trembling with every step as he shuffled a little closer to his best friend. "I'm so, so sorry." He continued, grabbing his hand and squeezing it tight. He looked up at his face, letting the tears fall from his baby blue eyes.
Maybe, back then if he had reached out, stopped him from leaving, then this wouldn't have happened. Then maybe he would be crying for a different reason and he would be there, as his best friend, as his lover, or whatever he would be to him, comforting him instead of being the reason behind it all.
He never cried. He was supposed to be the strongest after all.
He gave his best friends cheek a soft stroke before standing up, "I have to go back and find my students." He said, tears still streaming from his eyes.
The moment was over so quickly.
He only had a few minutes to process what he had done, the guilt he would have to live with for the rest of his life before he had to go back to teaching.
Before he had to go back to being Gojo that everyone knew, except for his best friend.
They were better together. He changed after he left.
Now, he wasn't 'the strongest'.
Not anymore.
