Luffy could feel something was off. Not only had he not been punched for stealing food from the kitchen but he had even been allowed to look around everyone´s rooms without being reprimanded. Now of course Luffy didn´t mind this, in fact he welcomed it, but it was unusual nonetheless so he decided to investigate.
Now all good investigators have partners so he went to Zoro to ask for help.
"HEY ZORO!" He shouted in the sleeping man´s face only to be quickly met with three punches to the head. From this Luffy was able to determine that the others hadn´t lost their abilities to fight but he still didn´t know what was up so he went to visit Robin who had been hanging out on deck all day reading some new books about giants.
"Robin! Do you know what´s going on with everyone?" Luffy clearly woke her up but he had more important things to think about right now.
Robin starred at him in disbelieve for a few seconds before chuckling to herself. "No Luffy but how about you ask Longnose?" "Oh that´s right thanks Robin!" Luffy sprinted off again in search of Usopp who he promptly ran into on the lower deck of the ship.
"Hey Usopp do you know what´s up with the rest of the crew?" "Birthday preparations." Usopp said clearly not paying attention to Luffy. "Who´s birthday?" Luffy thought he remembered everyone´s birthdays and had even gotten gifts for most of them already. In that moment Usopp dropped his hammer and mumbled a curse to himself. "Ermmm the merry was built two years ago! Yes that´s it we´re preparing the merry´s birthday!" Usopp said sweating and stuttering. "Oh okay! That´s a funny coincidence though because it´s also my birthday." Usopp´s jaw practically dropped but before he could say anything there was a loud shout from outside. "Luffy get out here you damn slob!" Sanji´s voice meant a chance to eat some more so Luffy sprinted outside.
He spotted Nami, Sanji and Chopper getting on the merry carrying a huge pile of something he couldn´t identify. "What´s up Sanji?" Luffy said hopping up and down. Usopp having processed Luffy´s statement went outside as well.
"It´s your birthday you idiot!" Sanji shouted at him.
"Yeah so what?" Luffy asked confused.
"We got you something Luffy." Nami said with a smile on her face. Chopper unpacked the pile to reveal a mountain of meat, fruits and fish. Luffy´s eyes practically popped out of his head at the sight.
"Is this all for me!?"
"Well we´d appreciate you sharing but yeah!" Chopper was practically beaming at Luffy´s reaction. Before any of them could react Luffy sprinted forward and ate the entire pile in one bite. To say the others were shocked was an understatement but all they could do was laugh.
"Happy birthday you damn fool!" Zoro said while punching Luffy on his head. All Luffy could do was smile.
The rest of the day was wonderful. Luffy went fishing with Usopp and Chopper, read about giants with Robin and watched Sanji and Zoro fight with Nami.
When he went to bed that night he couldn´t stop smiling.
