TW! Death and implied injuries

Chapter Text

“Dad, have you seen my phone?” Izuku yelled from across the apartment. Shouta was currently fixing an afternoon snack for them both since Hizashi was at his agency. Izuku had been tearing up his room since before Shouta had started washing the fruit. When Izuku finally had asked for help Shouta was drying his hands to call his son’s phone when the question fully sunk in.

Dad,” Izuku had called him dad. It was the first time Izuku had ever done so, which Shouta completely respected. After everything the kid had been through it was no wonder that he was a little anxious and mistrusting. Despite this Izuku was never hateful, disrespectful, or even ever acted out. Izuku was perfect in Shouta’s eyes.

Sure, Izuku could be self-sacrificing and stubborn, but Shouta of all people couldn’t say anything about that.

“Like father like son,” Hizashi had told him after that first week of training Izuku.

Shouta was trying to stay calm and not pay any attention to what Izuku had called him. If he did react, good or bad, Izuku may struggle to continue calling him it. “I’m not sure, I can call it for you if you want.”

“Yes, please!” Shouta heard as he dried his hands off with the near-by hand towel. He picked up his phone and dialed the number. “I looked there!” He heard as his call was taken. “Thanks, dad. Sorry, I couldn’t find it for the life of me.”

Shouta snorted, “No problem, I’ve done that more times than I can count. Where was it?” He heard Izuku huff out a sigh of exasperation before grumbling.

“It was under my pillow.”

“Ah, pillows like to hide our belongings apparently. Come to the kitchen, snack is almost ready. We can go train when Hizashi gets back.”

“Okay!” Shouta smiled as his son hung up.

Shouta, after years of thinking he was bi, slept with Izuku’s mother, Inko, and later realized he in fact was very gay. He’d felt bad about leaving her, especially since he still wanted to be friends. She was calm and collected and was overall a joy to be around, a personality that meshed well with his. Unfortunately, they lost contact with each other shortly after she graduated. He wasn’t aware at the time but she was pregnant with his son.

He didn’t find out until ten years later that he had a son. Inko had never reached out, he guessed in fear of rejection or perhaps danger due to Shouta’s job. Unfortunately, when Shouta did find out, it was under horrible circumstances.

Inko had gotten caught up in a villain attack, and Izuku had been left alone. Shouta would never forget that call.

It was a little over two years ago, he’d just gotten off of work a few hours prior and was huddled in bed, next to his, at the time, fiancé. It was noon and his phone started ringing. Seeing it was the detective calling, Shouta answered.

“Tsukauchi, what is it?” He heard ragged breaths coming from the Detective, which immediately put Shouta on high alert, not much could rattle the Detective.

“Aizawa,” Shouta was now confused, if it didn’t have to do with his hero work, then what could it be? “Do you know a Midoriya Inko?” Shouta stilled and put the phone on speaker with Hizashi.

“Yes, Hizashi and I both do. She was a friend of ours back in high school.” Hizashi cleared his throat and Shouta rolled his eyes. “Well, her and I went out for a while but, we were mostly friends.”

“Aizawa-San, she had a son. Who is now ten years old.” Hizashi gasped and Shouta stilled. Inko should only be 27 going on 28.

“Okay, that’s… interesting?” Shouta wasn’t sure how to react, he wondered who Inko had gotten with so soon after graduation.

“Midoriya Inko was caught in a villain attack, she didn’t make it Aizawa.” Hizashi was leaning over Shouta now, upset and starring at Shouta in anticipation.

“She’s gone?” Shouta asked, unable to believe it.

He’d shared many things with the woman. Secrets, his thoughts, feelings, his first everything. Despite knowing he was not attracted to her as she was him, she was his first love. She was a beautiful person with an amazing heart. The fact she was taken from the world so young with her son still on the earth-

“Is her son okay?” Shouta found himself asking with urgency. Tsukauchi let out a shaky sigh.

“Yes, he’s okay. But, Aizawa,” he heard the man swallow which annoyed him, he wanted the detective to spit it out already, “Aizawa, you’re on the birth certificate and, well… we had your DNA in the database since you’re a hero and all. The DNA is a match for Izuku.”

Hizashi was openly gaping now and Shouta could see every emotion in those green eyes, shock, fear, sorrow, a little joy.

“Izuku…” The name pained his heart. Back when he thought Inko and him would grow old together, they discussed possible names for their children. Shouta had loved the name Izuku. Inko remembered that, and despite Shouta not having been in their life, she named her son, their son the name he liked.  “I’ll, I’ll be down there soon Tsukauchi.” Shouta stuttered before hanging up. Despite telling the detective he’d be there soon, he was sitting up in his bed, his future husband rubbing circles into his back as Shouta himself stared at the wall in disbelief.

“Shou?” Hizashi tried, and he finally looked away from the wall.

“What are we going to do Hizashi?” The blond furrowed his eyes.

“What do you mean, love?” Shouta swallowed hard, tears threatening to spill but like the stubborn man he is, he blinked them back and focused his attention on his fiancé.

“I can’t leave Izuku to anyone else. He’s my son he’s Inko’s kid. I can’t just abandon him, but I don’t want to force you to be apart of this.” Hizashi straightened up.

“I want to be apart of this if you want me to be. We’re getting married in a few months. I love you Shouta, and I’m going to love this kid just as much. I’m in it for the long game. It’s unexpected sure, but I have no doubt we can do this. We’ll make the office his space, we don’t even need the office really. I can go out and buy everything we need while you go down and pick the kid up. We can do this Shou.” Shouta pulled his fiancé in for a kiss before hugging the man.

“Thank you.”

Half an hour later Shouta was walking into the department, already noticing the detective anxiously pacing.

“Detective.” Shouta called, and Tsukauchi immediately paused his steps.

“Aizawa-San, thank Kami you’re here. I really think the kid needs a parent right now. Kid’s been inconsolable for a while.” Tsukauchi fiddled with a pen, which Shouta assumes was taken from the front desk.

“You left a kid alone, after losing his mother, crying, in an office for hours?” Tsukauchi stared down at the floor.

“I was more focused on finding a relative that he could stay with.” Shouta sighed.

“Lead the way.” He’d deal with Tsukauchi’s blatant ignorance later, right now he needed to see Izuku and make sure he was okay.

The detective nodded and led the way to the back of the building to his own office. The detective knocked on the door and they walked in. When they did Tsukauchi began talking to Izuku, despite being right next to the man Shouta couldn’t hear what was being said. All he could focus on was how much Izuku looked like Inko, how much Izuku resembled himself as well.

Izuku had Inko green hair and green eyes and the same soft wide eyes that she had. Izuku’s hair was darker with thick curls much like his own. Scattered across the young boy’s face were freckles that came from Shouta.

Izuku was a perfect mixture of himself and Inko. The eyes, Izuku’s eyes, were all Inko though. For some reason, that thought made Shouta sad. Not jealous their kid had received her eyes instead of his, but sad with the thought this is the only way he’ll ever see his friend again, through the eyes of their son.

From the moment Shouta met Izuku he knew he would do everything in his power to protect him. Izuku was his first priority, his happiness, safety, needs, wants, and overall well being was all ensured from this day forward. Shouta would do everything in his power to keep Izuku happy because Izuku is his son, his and his friends son.

He’ll keep Izuku happy and Inko proud.
