Notes:

Hello, happy last day of hideduo kiss week. I'm terribly sorry I ended this with an angsty fic, because angst is the exact opposite of how I feel. I am so grateful to be able to write and for everyone to welcome me so kindly and compliment my writing. And I'm so grateful to @/LazycatthingCat for everything they've done to make this week special. I never felt so warm and loved in a community before. Thanks for everything :) <3

This fic is about vampire!Pac and hunter!Fit, and BIG WARNING, it's pretty depressing. I hope you enjoy the crushing angst I made >:)

Work Text:

Pac was planning on sleeping in, still in his bed of the big mansion he’s had for decades now. By looking at the windows, it just turned night, and he hated how his vampire instincts made him wake up the moment it was dark enough. Since he drank blood recently, he didn’t want to go out for now. He just wanted to bask in the feeling of being alone as he walked the halls of the mansion. Until he was disturbed the moment he was going to fall back asleep.

He felt a presence enter his territory, and Pac knew exactly who it was.

It was a vampire hunter by the name of Fit.

The hundred-year-old vampire had been visited by this hunter many times throughout these past months, and Pac is slowly losing his patience. They would always try to fight, but he would either win, or run away when it got too dangerous. He didn’t know why the man kept trying to visit him when it was going to be the same song and dance, until he visited again one night, stating that this fighting was going nowhere, asking to talk to the vampire instead. Pac couldn’t help but want to do the same, becoming more interested in Fit the more he came to see him. The only condition Fit had was not to feed or turn him, and Pac promised him not to.

The conversations they had became deeper, and the amount of time the hunter stayed for became longer. He still doesn’t know why the hunter didn’t want to kill him anymore, it was his job, but the vampire wasn’t complaining.

This impatience wasn’t from annoyance, that was for sure. The vampire was becoming more impatient with the thoughts in his head, and these feelings that he hadn’t felt in a long time. He never thought anyone would bring this feeling back to him, but there he was, thinking about wanting to be with Fit constantly. The next time the hunter visited, he wanted to ask something drastic, something that might chase him away, but he didn’t care. He needed to know.

So when he felt Fit enter his territory, he was most certainly caught off guard. He hadn’t visited in a while, in a week and a half actually, so he wasn’t expecting him tonight.

Pac leaped out of his bed and ran to his dresser, using his superhuman speed to his advantage to dress himself quickly. He then dashed out of his room and down the stairs, speeding through the double doors that led outside. He wanted to be the one to visit Fit this time.

Fit had done a number to Pac when it came to trust. He did not trust humans for many reasons, but he showed his hospitality to him when they both wanted peace. Sure, asking if the wounds dealt by him were now healed was the bare minimum, but Pac still thought it was a kinder gesture than most humans he had met. The more they talked, the more he felt like he was peeling the layers of protection that covered Fit’s true feelings. He felt the hunter doing that to him as well.

So he had to return the favor. The amount of trust Fit had for Pac not to feed off him, not to turn him, is immeasurable. So he had to return the favor to him somehow.

Pac hastily but quietly arrived where Fit was, hiding behind a tree as the hunter walked by. He almost had an excited glint in his eye while walking the trail toward Pac’s mansion.

“Fitch,” Pac called out from behind the tree, “I’m here!” He saw Fit spun around, trying to see with the lantern he held in his hand.

Pac showed himself from the tree, and Fit gave the vampire a smile and wave.

“You came to meet me in the forest?” He asked, almost teasingly, “You’ve never done that before, Pac.”

Pac felt himself flush with the limited blood he had, as he left his place by the tree and dashed right to Fit’s side, who was nearly surprised by how quick he was.

“I felt like having a walk with you today instead of lazing in the house,” Pac said sheepishly as he looked down at his shoes, “Is that alright?”

“Anything’s alright when it comes to you, Pac.” The hunter proclaimed, as they both started walking down the dark trail through the forest. “Well, except for a couple of things.”

The vampire looked up to stare at Fit, then laughed nervously. “Yeah, except some things.”

Pac had been reminded yet again that Fit told him specifically not to turn him. He never told him the reason why, but he said it often as if it were a reminder. He felt his confidence slipping.

The mention of that seemed to leave Pac speechless, and Fit was quiet as well. They had a moment of awkward silence as they walked slowly on the path.

“So…” Fit broke the quietness, “Your territory is pretty big, Pac. Is there anything interesting to see?”

Pac racked his mind to think of some places. Anything to distract his mind from yearning for Fit to live forever with him.

“Oh! I know, by the lake,” Pac stated, “The moon is bright tonight, and it will reflect on the water. It’ll be pretty!”

Fit nodded, “Then lead the way, prince of darkness.”

That nickname almost Pac froze, recognizing the title.

… How does he know that?

Pac cackled and his his face, “What is that nickname, Fitch?!”

Fit laughed in reply, “What? Just testing things out.”

It took them almost an hour to make it close to the lake. They had to cut through some foliage to reach the beach, and when they finally made it through, they were welcomed with a nice sight.

The sky had no clouds at all. With the stars shining their brightest, and the moon at its fullest, they both lit up the night sky. The lake was reflecting everything, making the area brighter than it seemed. As Pac turned over to Fit, his skin was almost glowing from the shine of the moon, and Pac had to push his longing for him far down. He was so handsome, and god, he couldn’t get attached to a mortal. It was too late already, he was more than just attached. He was in love with him.

Fit turned his head to Pac as well, and he saw him freeze up. His eyes were shining with an expression he doesn’t recognize, and his mouth was agape.

“Woah…” Fit breathed out, clearing his throat as he turned his head back to the lake, “It’s, uh, really pretty.”

“Mhm,” Pac agreed, turning his head back to the lake as well. “I like to come here sometimes if it’s dark enough, and it almost brings me a warmth, you know? I believe this is the closest I can ever be to feeling sunlight.”

Pac felt Fit’s gaze on him the entire time he was talking. Maybe the stare of the vampire hunter making the vampire’s face flush would be the closest he had ever been to feeling sunlight as well.

“I’m sorry you don’t get to experience that,” Fit said sympathetically.

Pac scoffed while waving his hands, “Oh no, it’s alright. I’ve made peace with it a long time ago.”

Fit was quiet for a moment, a little too quiet for Pac’s liking. He turned to look at him and it seemed that he was thinking about something. After a couple of seconds, he opened his mouth and then shut it again. He seemed really lost in thought.

Pac gave the vampire hunter a smug smile, “I’ve never seen you so stuck in thought, Fit. What’s on your mind, big boy?”

He heard Fit’s heartbeat skip. He witnessed him become flustered with the nickname and tried speaking, but it only came out with jumbles of words.

“Well, uh, I was just thinking of something,” Fit managed to spit out while talking with his hands, “But, it’s ridiculous. It’s a ridiculous thought.”

“Oh, Fitche,” Pac cooed, glaring at Fit with bright red eyes, “No thought of yours is ridiculous to me.”

Pac had an idea of using his hypnosis on him to get his words out. He had used it on Fit once before to escape from him, and it worked briefly. The human was strong, but it could work.

But he wanted to trust Fit that he would be honest with him. He didn’t want to take advantage of him if he was actually trying to be vulnerable, so he waited for his response.

After a few moments of Fit flustered and stuttering, he took a deep breath while looking out to the water again.

“If only…” Fit cleared his throat, “I could do this with you.”

Pac stared at him, head tilted from confusion. “But you are doing this with me.”

Fit’s face scrunched. “That isn’t what I mean. If only I could do this with you… For a long time.”

Pac felt his whole self freeze up. Did he really say that?

Fit wanted to be with him? Forever? Did he want Pac to turn him?

The vampire felt his mind race, panicking but giddy over the situation.

He only had to ask. He had to ask him the question that had been festering in Pac’s mind for months.

But why did Fit sound so crushed when saying that? Why did he sound so defeated?

Pac breathed in and out, the first time he took in air to his lungs for who knew how long, only because of nervousness and Fit himself.

“Fitch,” Pac heard his voice crack and cringed at it, “Can I ask you something, please?”

Fit nodded, still staring out into the lake, eyes clouded with an unreadable emotion.

“I know you said not to do this. You said it right when we first made peace with each other,” Pac fiddled with his hands, “I still don’t know why you made this rule, but I was hoping that one day, there could be an exception.”

Pac heard Fit’s heartbeat beat faster, making Pac extremely nervous.

Please don’t say no.

“I’ve never felt this way before, Fit, or at least in a while. Whenever I hang out with you, I feel alive again. Whenever I feel your presence, I get so excited. You make me very happy, Fit,” Pac smiled at the ground while confessing his heart out, “I want to be with you for a long time too. I know this is so selfish of me, but can I…”

Pac trailed off when he turned his head to the hunter, who was now turned completely away from the vampire. His heartbeat was so fast it felt like it was going to beat out of his chest. He was clenching his hand over his abdomen, like it was physically hurting him to hear this. His muscles were tense, either looking ready to run away or ready to attack at any moment.

He was… Disgusted with Pac.

He hated hearing his confession. He hated the vampire.

Pac felt his lifeless heart break.

“O-oh…” Pac’s voice shook, “Your answer is no, isn’t it?” He started sniffling. Fit didn’t respond.

“Am I really that hideous to you?” Pac asked, throat caught in a sob. Fit’s breath hitched. “Were you just toying with me, just to kill me later on? Have you been hiding your hate for me this entire time?” He felt the tears trail down his cheeks.

Fit dropped the lantern he was holding. As it hit the ground, it shattered, snuffing out the light. Now, Fit and Pac were left in the light from the stars and moon. He still gave the vampire no response.

Pac’s patience was running thin, and reached his hand out to grab his arm. The vampire hunter actively moved away from his hand, basically dodging it. Like Pac was going to disintegrate him the moment he touched him. He was in sheer awe.

“I- I can’t even touch you?!” Pac screeched. “Am I a fucking monster to you?!”

“No, Pac.” Fit said desperately, his voice hoarse, “It’s nothing like that, I promise you.”

Fit turned around, revealing himself. His face was filled with devastation. His eyes were brimming with tears.

He wasn’t disgusted, he wasn’t hostile.

He was sad and afraid.

Pac felt his anger fade as he saw the expression on Fit’s face, but stayed quiet, listening to what Fit was going to say.

“I was so afraid of this conversation,” Fit’s voice shook, “I’m a coward, Pac. I’m still afraid of telling you the truth.”

Pac sighed, wiping his tears from his cheeks. “Then go as slowly as you want. But I need the whole answer, please.”

Fit took an unsteady breath.

“I would let you do it in a heartbeat if I could.”

Pac felt his lip quiver, about to cry again. He let Fit speak.

“It would be a miracle if I could live forever with you. I realized that a couple of months ago. That I liked you so much that I would be content to be a vampire with you…”

Fit trailed off. Taking another deep breath.

“But I can’t be turned. I’m cursed in a different way.”

“Cursed?” Pac repeated.

Fit nodded. “I took a deal with a being of power from who knows how many years ago,” Fit explained, “They were a vampire hunter until something went wrong with them. That’s all they told me. But they came to me, asking me to complete their legacy, and I agreed to the contract.” Fit looked down to his hands, then looked at Pac. “I’m not a normal vampire hunter. I’m a vampire killing machine,” Despite the words being said out of his mouth, Fit stared at Pac with all the love in the world, “Until I met you, Pac.”

Pac shuffled a bit closer towards Fit, now being only a few feet away. “Wow, no wonder you were so powerful.”

Fit chuckled and shrugged. “The same goes for you. The countless other vampires I killed were no match compared to you. You’re the strongest one I’ve ever met. The other vampires called you ‘prince of darkness’.”

Pac’s eyes widened. “So that’s how you know that title!”

“Yeah. Heard a lot about you.” Fit’s smile turned into a frown. “Pac, I don’t think this contract will ever go away, and the powers with it.”

“What powers do you even have?” Pac asked.

“Come closer.” Pac nodded, and walked closer to Fit until they were touching distance.

“Do you remember a certain feeling whenever I grabbed you when we fought?”

Pac nodded again. “Yes, I remember something like this.”

“Hold your hands out.”

Pac obliged, and Fit hovered his hands close over his, and Pac felt a stinging feeling instantly. It almost felt like it was burning, and although they weren't touching, it still hurt quite a bit. He pulled his hands away, and the pain stopped.

Pac looked at Fit with sad eyes. “I can’t touch you?”

The hunter gave him a sad smile. “We can’t. I don’t even think clothing would work.”

“You haven’t explained why you can't be turned yet,” Pac said sternly.

Fit sighed. “Well, even if you were able to do it through the burning, I will probably die, since it is against my contract.”

They were both silent for a moment, Pac trying to process the information he just got.

“Are you sure it’s just you that’s cursed?” The vampire decided to say.

“Pac…”

Pac laughed emptily, staring at the floor with his eyes filled with tears again. “I can’t touch you, I can’t let you live with me forever. What do we do to get rid of this curse? Do I start searching for an impossible cure for vampires again? Have you killed enough vampires for your boss to be fine with it?”

Fit laughed sadly. “That’s the funny thing, Pac… You’re probably the only vampire left.”

Pac felt his heart drop to his stomach.

“Ah…” The tears flowed through the vampire’s eyes, wetting his face. “Fit," He mumbled desperately, "What do we do, Fit?”

“I don’t know, Pac,” Fit was crying now too, trying to talk through his sobs, “I thought of everything. I really, have no idea.”

Pac couldn’t take it anymore. He threw himself into Fit's arms, hugging him tightly like he was going to disappear any moment. He felt the burning sensation everywhere, but he didn’t care. He needed this, he needed Fit, no matter if it hurt or not.

“Fitch, I need you to hug me back,” Pac pleaded through sobs, “Please, Fit.”

Fit gave in, hugging the vampire tightly. “I’m sorry, Pac. I’m so sorry.”

Pac sighed sadly, “It’s okay, I can barely feel it. It’s worth it.”

They stayed there for a while, hearing each other silently sob as they realized their situation. They were doomed, and all they could do was embrace each other until it got ripped away from their hands.

Pac then raised his head to look at the hunter, staring at his lips. They were still holding onto each other, the vampire feeling his waist burning harshly because of Fit’s arms wrapped around them.

“I want to kiss you,” Pac whispered, eyes still shedding tears, “I promise I won’t bite.”

Fit laughed in response, eyes flickering down to his lips as well, “That’s not the biggest problem, Pac. I’m worried I am going to burn your face off.”

“I can heal, Fit. I’ve drank blood recently,” Pac stared at Fit’s eyes, begging him once more, “Please. I need it more than anything.”

Fit sighed, leaning in while whispering. “I can’t resist you, you know that.”

Pac smirked, leaning in as well. “I know.”

Their lips connected, and Pac was in pure bliss.

The kisses were at first very light, the hunter trying his best not to hurt the vampire. But when they both kept coming back for more, he felt Fit’s resolve slipping, deepening the kisses further and further. Pac wrapped his arms around Fit’s shoulders as he opened his mouth, and it led to a long, long kiss. Fit sighed in contentment, and Pac didn’t care about anything else.

Fuck the stars and the moon, fuck feeling the blood in your face, fuck the sunlight itself. Pac decided this was what feeling the warmth of the sun really felt like.

But, it’s not like the pain can be ignored, even though the vampire was in paradise.

The more it led to making out, the more Pac felt the burning. He felt it in his mouth, his lips, his teeth, his tongue. He felt it when Fit moved on to start pressing kisses on his face, from his cheeks to his jawline. It had to look jarring, the sight of Pac’s mouth and face burning off into little flakes, and it made him miserable. So miserable that he started crying again.

The burning was just another reminder drilled into Pac’s head that Fit would die from mortality before he knew it. That Fit would leave Pac in this world, leaving him eternally lonely from his curse of immortality.
