Chapter Text

It always has to rain. It also has to be dark, secluded from everyone, dramatic enough to set the mood. Baekhyun adjusts his grip on the metal and shifts in place, eyes closed as the roaring thunder screams for him to stop his madness. For once, Baekhyun’s grateful that the universe conspired with him for this moment, although infuriated by what he intends to do. If he thinks about it positively, the weather and the overall mood may be encouraging him to pursue until the end. Baekhyun smiles upon feeling the raindrops touch his skin, letting it lash him for the people he will disappoint. I’m sorry, he thinks, hoping the wind would carry it for him to his loved ones.

“Tell me you found him! Chanyeol, give me updates!” Baekhyun’s mother panics on the line as Chanyeol drives through this storm, finding his best friend who decided to run away on a school night for no clear reason.

“I-I am…I’m doing my best. The roads aren’t clear, Mrs. Byun. Are you sure he didn’t leave any signs there or a note? He’s not picking up my calls either.” Chanyeol drives carefully, adjusting the glasses on his face as he checks his other phone that’s trying to reach Baekhyun. Mrs. Byun wails on the line, worried about her omega son lost somewhere. “Where did he say he was going? It’s not like Baekhyun to leave the house without saying anything to you.”

“He…he said he will just get some fresh air, maybe…maybe smell some pinecones? Pine trees? Chanyeol, his phone is here! Oh god, the bathroom…there’s blood everywhere! Where is that boy?” Mrs. Byun screams as Chanyeol ends the call on his other phone and ends the call with Mrs. Byun too, stressed beyond belief because of this. He was just with Baekhyun this afternoon, dropping him off at his house after school because he finally got his student driver’s license. Baekhyun’s unusual behavior didn’t go unnoticed by Chanyeol but the omega just said he’s not feeling well. Maybe that hug before Baekhyun exited the car should’ve sent warning signs in the alpha’s mind, aware that Baekhyun’s been carrying problems he keeps to himself but he never pushed to know them.

“Come on, Baekhyun. Show yourself. Don’t do this to me, come on.” Chanyeol worries as well, turning to a different road because the one he wants to take is closed. This way seems quite dark, lacking road signs and street lamps because it leads to the hiking trail. Chanyeol notices the pine trees around him, sensing he’s in the right place if Baekhyun’s final words to his mother mean anything. His headlights shine on a figure on the bridge ahead, this wrong turn looking like a blessing in disguise. Chanyeol honks the horn twice and the figure turns its head to him, clear enough through the heavy rain and even for his glasses. “No, no.” He gets out of the car and dashes through the rain, screaming for Baekhyun to stay put.

Who is this, Baekhyun thinks, unable to see this person clearly in the rain. The grip on his wrist tightens almost painfully, startling the omega in case this may be a dangerous wanderer. But how come he knows his name? Baekhyun tugs his wrist as the guy removes his hood, revealing his best friend. “What the fuck are you doing?” Chanyeol looks at Baekhyun still in his school uniform, soaking wet, stained with blood, and standing on the unsafe side of the bridge’s edge. “Get back in here!” He wraps his arm around Baekhyun’s chest and pulls him back to safety, struggling to do so because Baekhyun thrashes in his hold. “Baekhyun, we can talk about this! Don’t be selfish!”

“Let me go! Let me die! Chanyeol, let me go!” Baekhyun screams, still holding onto the railing so he can finish what he started.

“No! I’m not letting you go until you talk to me first! I’m not letting you go ever!” Chanyeol growls, silencing Baekhyun completely.

“Stop being so stubborn! Just let me do this! No one will care, no one will miss me anyway!” Baekhyun yells back, hating that he’s deprived of making a choice again.

“What do you take me for? Your mom’s been worried sick yelling at my ear all night to find you! Whatever you’re going through, we can talk about it! If it’s your mom, you can stay with me and my family first! Who said no one will miss you? Am I no one now?” Chanyeol lifts him one more time but Baekhyun’s foot slips, almost sending him off the edge. Baekhyun hugs Chanyeol’s arm and holds onto the metal railing as fear spikes through his system, looking down to the rushing water several feet below. Chanyeol notices Baekhyun’s hesitance, trying to shake him off his arm this time. “Go, jump.” He taunts. Baekhyun glares at him, challenged and mocked at the same time. “I said jump.” Chanyeol eggs on further but Baekhyun doesn’t move. He rolls his eyes and swings his long legs over the railing, standing on the dangerous edge with Baekhyun this time.

“Are you out of your mind?” Baekhyun yells, panicking because Chanyeol might fall.

“Are you?” Chanyeol holds his hand and the railing behind them, looking down at the long drop to the rushing water, unsure if it’s deep or shallow. “If you want to do this, be stupid and shit, then I’m coming with you.”

“What the fuck,” Baekhyun breathes, thinking Chanyeol truly is crazy. “Your parents will kill you. Your sister…oh my god, she’s going to…”

“Then get back on the bridge. I will go after you.” Chanyeol negotiates, heart in his throat because what the fuck is he doing? “We can forget this happened. We will not tell anyone about this. We can get ice cream afterwards…or soup. It’s cold.” He shudders adorably as Baekhyun feels his back against the wall again. Of all the people in this small town, the one who found him had to be his best friend, the one person he tolerates in this world. “Well? Ice cream or jump?”

“You will be fine without me, Chanyeol. You will move on.” Baekhyun shakes his hand out of Chanyeol’s grasp, forgoing thinking to finish this for good. “But thank you for being the last person I’m with.” Before Chanyeol can say anything, he jumps, letting go of pain and sadness for good.

Like a good two seconds. Because Baekhyun feels a hand on his arm and an arm wrap around his waist. Each second begins to matter in his eyes, seeing Chanyeol fall with him, hold him and protect his head and nape before they plunge into the rushing water.

Baekhyun wakes with a loud gasp, sitting upright as he catches his breath, arms flailing as if he’s trying to swim to the surface. But he’s not even underwater nor wet. He’s on his bed, dry and warm. Outside his window, there’s no rain but beautiful sunshine as the sounds of the busy city stay as ambient noise. Baekhyun scratches his neck and blinks his sleepy eyes, seeing he has less than two hours to get ready for work.

He lets the water run in the sink while he brushes his teeth, eyeing his messy bed hair thoughtlessly. This silence and calm is nice, he thinks, not missing the old days when he used to live with his mom and stepdad. He’s the typical independent young adult that itched to leave his parents’ house after university, ready to explore the big world in the city with little to no money, hoping to get a break eventually. And he did, much to his surprise too.

Baekhyun tilts his head to the side, choosing which sweater vest to wear for the day as the coffee maker pings, cutting his decision-making short to prepare his caffeine boost for the day. He stumbles back when he spills the milk on the counter, sighing deeply in hopes that his pants didn’t get ruined. Some mornings are just worse than others, he thinks as he cleans, closing his tumbler tightly before hurrying back to his room to finish dressing up. Baekhyun smiles at his reflection once he’s all dressed, even if it’s fake and forced, liking the beret on his head at least. “This is as good as it’s going to get, Baekhyun. Let’s look forward to going home.” Baekhyun cheers himself up lamely, grabbing his tote bag on his way out.

He sits on the small step in front of the main door and wears his favorite chunky sneakers, looking up to the door when the lock beeps and it clips open. “Hey, good morning, baby.” Chanyeol greets upon seeing him, smiling so wide that Baekhyun knits his brows in confusion. Behind him, a neighbor passes by with a quick glance at them, explaining Chanyeol’s odd greeting. Baekhyun scoots to the wall as Chanyeol enters, giving his best friend space to pass through. “Of all people that had to see me come up, it had to be nosy Suzanne.” Chanyeol removes his shoes and lifts his bulky backpack over his head to not hit Baekhyun on his way in. As if it would reach the small omega sitting down when Chanyeol’s so damn tall.

Baekhyun smiles at Chanyeol’s morning struggle, finished with lacing his left shoe. Chanyeol drops his backpack on the sofa and returns to Baekhyun, kneeling in front of him to tie his other shoe. “I got that.” Baekhyun pouts, watching Chanyeol finish the task.

“I know you do, you always do, but you’re running late.” Chanyeol rises first and helps Baekhyun stand, looking down to him as the omega looks up to his best friend. “Got your keys, wallet, phone, coffee?”

“Yes.” Baekhyun nods with an adorable blink.

“Umbrella? It looks like it will rain.” Chanyeol says as a matter of fact.

“It will be fine. It will stop when I clock out. There’s food in the fridge. I left some money on the counter for the water delivery.” Baekhyun points behind the alpha.

“I told you you don’t need to pitch in. Baekhyun come on, it’s been years. Six, seven years?” Chanyeol runs his fingers in his fluffy dark hair, still so nonchalant about things when it comes to the omega.

“Close to seven yet you don’t let me pay a single thing here since I moved in.” Baekhyun looks unamused but grateful to have a place to stay for free in an expensive city like this.

“Your smile is enough payment for the bills, and your pretty face for the rent.” Chanyeol smirks as Baekhyun scoffs, pushing him back lightly to quit his antics. “Go, be safe. Let me have my beauty sleep.”

“Like it helps you in any way,” Baekhyun teases, sticking his tongue out childishly. Chanyeol waves goodbye, reminding the omega to message him when he reaches work. “Sleep well, baby.” Baekhyun waves back before closing the door, looking around the hallway in case their nosy neighbors are listening in. This is such a nice place to live in but the prejudice on single people living in big places meant for families or those who wish to have a family thrives unjustly. It’s not Chanyeol’s fault he can afford a nice place as a bachelor, deciding to have Baekhyun move in to make it seem like they’re planning to have a family eventually. Because of this impression on career-driven individuals like them, they have to call each other ‘baby’ in public, especially in this building, even if they’re only friends.

Chanyeol looks over his shoulder once Baekhyun’s gone, yawning as he drags his body to the kitchen for a drink. Graveyard shift work truly isn’t for everyone, he thinks, turning his bodyclock upside down but at least his apartment always has someone in it. He sees the droplets of coffee and milk near the coffee maker and the wet rag, aware of how much Baekhyun rushed this morning. So he cleans up after the omega while snacking on some chips, listening to music on the speakers to not feel so lonely in this nice apartment. Once it’s all clean, he gets ready for bed and settles in his own bedroom, laying in the bed thoughtlessly as he stares at his photo with Baekhyun during their younger years.

Having met in middle school, Chanyeol knew he would be friends with Baekhyun the moment he saw him in the classroom. Chanyeol and his family just moved back to Baekhyun's small hometown, wanting to let him and his sister grow in a peaceful environment that’s close to their roots. To Chanyeol’s surprise, his father and Baekhyun’s late father were good friends, so they became friends naturally. When Chanyeol’s family had to move back to the city, Chanyeol refused to leave, opting to live there on his own but he wasn’t alone; Baekhyun was by his side. So close that after they presented in high school, they were often teased by others about each other. What a funny possibility indeed, but neither went in the direction everyone expected.

“Stop thinking nonsense, Chanyeol. Be content with this life. Accept that you’re dying alone.” He mumbles to himself as sleep comes for him. “At least…parts of it, I was happy with him.”

Times like this, Baekhyun wished he listened to Chanyeol. He spent extra hours at work just to let the rain cease but it looks like it won’t. Standing in the lobby, he hopes for a cab to stop and drop someone off or the receptionist to call one for him. Baekhyun looks back to the receptionists’ desk, sighing hopelessly because the snobby guy had to take this shift. He fishes his phone and calls for his final SOS, hoping Chanyeol’s already awake. May the floor swallow him whole for this, hating to inconvenience him in any way because Chanyeol never burdened him before.

“Yellow,” Chanyeol greets after three rings, his usual dorky and kind self bringing comfort to Baekhyun.

“You told me so?” Baekhyun pouts as he speaks, but Chanyeol doesn’t see him. Chanyeol chuckles on the line, asking where he is. “Still in the building, I’ll wait for you in the lobby.”

“I just got to work, but give me 15 minutes.” Chanyeol says coolly as Baekhyun shuts his eyes tightly, kicking himself mentally for bothering the alpha.

“Wait, you don’t have to. I’ll just call a cab.” Baekhyun says in a rush.

“Relax. They won’t fire me if I step out for a moment. Stay put, I’ll be there soon.”

“Be safe.” Baekhyun smiles to himself, saved from the rain. “I’ll hang up first.” Chanyeol hums in response, smiling wider as he grabs his hoodie on the bench to cover his uniform.

“Was that Beautiful?” Jongin, Chanyeol’s coworker and friend, notices the alpha’s sudden good mood and urgency to leave. “What’s the score there? Still nothing?” Chanyeol just chuckles as he puts his things in the locker, pocketing his valuables before leaving the break room. “Want me to come with you?”

“Fuck off, Jongin.” Chanyeol says on his way out, seeking the manager's permission to step out for a moment.

Baekhyun bounces on his toes and heels, looking left and right to kill time while waiting for Chanyeol to arrive. Someone stands next to him, making him move his eyes first before turning his head. “Baekhyun, fancy catching you here. Overtime?” Baekhyun looks ahead and stays mum, truly thinking his bad dream influenced this day to be bad altogether. Garrett from Inventory shows his umbrella, inviting Baekhyun to commute home together. Baekhyun holds back rolling his eyes, taking one step away from this alpha who finds himself to be the most perfect being in the world. He knows Garrett has a crush on him…and also someone from every department, treating omegas in the company as chocolates he can choose and indulge in every day. “Come on, no cab will take you home. It’s almost dinnertime. Tell you what, I’ll buy you dinner too.” Garrett steps closer as Baekhyun steps away again, adding that his boyfriend would not like what he’s doing. “Boyfriend? Where?” Garrett looks around the empty lobby, pushing his wants.

“Seriously, you need to back away. My boyfriend will get mad.” Baekhyun rushes out the glass doors, opting to wait close to the covered driveway just to get away from Garrett. He can be soaking wet for all he cares, but Garrett has an umbrella who can easily stick to him. Garrett follows him, obviously, grabbing Baekhyun’s elbow to make him stop but Baekhyun sees Chanyeol's car coming, running in the rain to meet it at the entrance of the driveway.

“Why did you run? I could’ve stopped there.” Chanyeol asks once Baekhyun’s seated.

“Just drive.” Baekhyun mutters, not in the mood to talk, unlike the sweet boy asking for a lift earlier.

Chanyeol wants to ask more but he does as told, seeing someone outside pick up a bag keyring he knows is Baekhyun’s. Of course he knows, he won this in the claw machine for the omega. He stops the car abruptly and gets out wordlessly as Baekhyun panics, hurrying after him to stop an argument from escalating. Chanyeol snatches the keyring with a threat as Baekhyun pulls him back to the car. “Ah, he wasn’t lying. You must be the boyfriend, Hot-Head.” Garrett looks at Chanyeol from head to toe, standing tall. Chanyeol steps closer and stands straighter, looking down at this scumbag.

“And you must be Garrett.” Chanyeol smiles with his hand offered for a shake as Baekhyun looks mortified. Garrett doesn’t hide his surprise, doing his best to not look intimidated and holds Chanyeol’s hand, screaming in pain when Chanyeol grips it tightly. “You better hold onto that umbrella properly or I might let you get acquainted with it better.”

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry! Baekhyun, tell your boyfriend I didn’t mean anything bad.” Garrett begs, crippling in pain.

“Babe, let him go. Let’s just go, please?” Baekhyun shakes Chanyeol to quit making a scene, not one bit worried about Garrett’s hand. “Babe!” Chanyeol lets Garrett go, putting his arm around Baekhyun as they back away together.

“Oops.” Chanyeol shrugs nonchalantly, not one bit sorry for what he did. He helps Baekhyun in the car and rounds it without taking his eyes off Garrett until he’s inside the car. Chanyeol tosses the puppy keyring to Baekhyun’s lap and speeds out of the driveway, ready for the omega to scold him. When they reach the first stoplight, Chanyeol flicks a glance at Baekhyun looking out the window. “Go on, reprimand me.”

“Just drop me off at the lobby. I’ll head up myself.” Baekhyun mumbles, unsure if he’s mad or thankful. Chanyeol scoffs loudly and rolls his eyes, irritating the omega. “You have the nerve to be proud of what you did back there? He’s going to spread rumors about me now!”

“Then let him! Why do you care so much about what he thinks? That guy has been harassing you directly and indirectly for months, Baekhyun. I just put him in his place.” Chanyeol tries not to raise his voice but tension is clear in the car.

“I can do that myself!”

“Right, of course.” Chanyeol steps on the accelerator, driving with his emotions now. “If you could, you would’ve brought an umbrella like I told you this morning.”

“I’m sorry. Just drop me off here. You’re already late for work.” Baekhyun sees the time on the dashboard, squeezing the puppy keyring to channel his feelings there.

“Forget it. It’s just one day’s worth of pay.” Chanyeol gets his phone on the dashboard and calls someone to secure his things at his workplace. Baekhyun lowers his head and focuses on the puppy keyring, biting his lip and trying to hold his tears because Chanyeol has been inconvenienced greatly today.

The car engine turns off in Chanyeol’s designated parking spot but neither gets out, knowing they can’t leave things like this. Chanyeol sees how squeezed the puppy keyring he gave to Baekhyun is, guilty for raising his voice and making a big deal of things. Baekhyun hurries out like the car’s going to explode, shielding his face so Chanyeol won’t see his stupid tears. They ride the elevator together in silence, grateful none of their neighbors will see them like this or they’ll be the building’s morning tea again.

“Baekhyun, I’m sorry.” Chanyeol says when the front door closes, watching Baekhyun flop to the floor and untie his shoelaces frustratedly. He tries to help him but Baekhyun slaps his hands away, avoiding the alpha’s eyes. “I’m sorry, please look at me.” Baekhyun doesn’t say anything, grabbing the puppy keyring when he stands and stomps to his room. Chanyeol follows, annoying Baekhyun some more because he just wants to be alone.

“Get out of my room!” Baekhyun yells, gripping his hair. “I feel guilty enough for costing you a day’s pay and for…for what happened. I’m sorry too, okay?” Chanyeol knows he means it despite his tone, wondering what happened before he arrived.

He reaches out and holds Baekhyun’s hand with the puppy keyring, apologizing softly for the things he said. Baekhyun sniffles and shakes his head, his tears falling like stars over their hands. “Don’t cry, come on.” Chanyeol slips his hands under Baekhyun’s jaw to see his eyes, totally guilty now for making him cry. “Did he touch you?” Chanyeol guesses, frozen when Baekhyun hugs him tightly with more apologies. “It’s okay, you’re safe now.” He whispers, rubbing Baekhyun’s back comfortingly. “Do not be sorry for anything, especially for today’s pay. It’s just pennies. We’ll live.” Chanyeol smirks as Baekhyun lifts his head, asking if they’re okay now. “Were we not okay?” He plays dumb to ease Baekhyun’s thumping heart, wiping his cheeks dry. “Don’t cry, come on. We argue every other day over stupid things.” To this, Baekhyun sputters a laugh, nodding to his words. “I’m glad you called me, really. At least I got to see how…ugly Garrett is. I thought you were exaggerating.”

“Why would I try to make someone unattractive attractive in my narratives?” Baekhyun mumbles confusedly. “Ah shit, he might tell everyone you’re my boyfriend now. Kyungsoo might throw a party in our department.” He hisses, looking forward to the shit he’s in for tomorrow.

“What’s wrong with that? The building knows we’re getting engaged soon.” Chanyeol scoffs, detaching from Baekhyun to get something to eat.

“All these expectations,” Baekhyun follows him, latching on the alpha’s back to give some affection as a way to make up to him. “Who said it’s required for people our age to be married and have pups? Just because everyone else is living that way, it doesn’t mean we should too.” Chanyeol just chuckles, making himself a bowl of cereal for dinner since he doesn’t need to work tonight. “If they start asking where our love child is, I’m moving out.”

“You are not moving out, Baekhyun. You are never leaving my apartment.” Chanyeol turns around in Baekhyun’s hold, eating his cereal casually before feeding Baekhyun some. “Even when we die, I have to be next to you or you know those mini spaces where the jar goes in funeral homes. We will share a space for that. Let’s get a funeral plan this weekend, I’ll pay for it first.”

“What the hell?” Baekhyun chews, judging Chanyeol’s wild imagination. “You seriously don’t want to get married or have a family?” Chanyeol just shrugs because that’s the safest answer. Before Baekhyun says another word, the doorbell rings so he detaches from Chanyeol to see who it is. “Baby?”

“What?” Chanyeol answers automatically, mouth full of cereals.

“No, baby.” Baekhyun says louder as Chanyeol furrows his brows, putting the bowl down to see what’s up. When the alpha hovers behind Baekhyun, he sees on the floor what got the omega stunned. “C-Call the building administrator, Chanyeol.”

“If this is a contract renewal gift, it’s not a funny joke.” Chanyeol mumbles, trying to locate his phone in the kitchen as another voice makes him jog back to Baekhyun at the door.

“Sehun?” Baekhyun steps back, wondering why their friend from back home’s here…picking up the baby carrier and taking it inside with him. “What…what,”

“Bro?” Chanyeol cannot mask his confusion, nor show he’s happy to see their friend. “What is…”

“You…have a baby?” Baekhyun has been crushing on Sehun since forever, always bugging Chanyeol to bring him along in their hangouts just to see the handsome alpha. Chanyeol is aware of this little crush but knows Sehun will not pursue Baekhyun because well, bro code. Seeing him with this unexpected surprise, Baekhyun’s heart disintegrates there and then.

“Yeah, I didn't expect it but she’s here. She’s new.” Sehun smiles bashfully at the sleeping baby girl in the carrier. And new? Is that the right way to introduce a child? Is there an old child they also know nothing about? Chanyeol and Baekhyun only look at each other, unsure of what Sehun wants from them. “Please don’t tell my family about this yet. Her omega parent just left her at my door the other night. I’m not even sure which one it is.” He looks confused but smiles nonetheless, stressing Baekhyun out already.

“Oh my god, Oh Sehun. You got someone pregnant?” Baekhyun paces away with both hands in his hair, hating this day the more it progresses. “They carried that for nine months and you knew nothing?”

“Yeah, I guess so. I mean, she looks like me.” Sehun shrugs, looking down at the baby.

“You look like all babies, Sehun. Are you sure that’s yours?” Chanyeol puts his hands on his hips, exasperated by the situation as well.

“Yep. This is mine.” Sehun nods, seemingly okay with it.

“When did you buy all this baby stuff?” Chanyeol sounds so amazed because it seems complete; from the carrier that’s obviously pricey to the baby bags and the plushie in Sehun’s hand.

“Yesterday? Some of it today. I tried buying from Baekhyun’s baby clothes brand but it costs as much as the carrier. Maybe next time.” Sehun smiles apologetically. “Anyway, I need a favor. Can you look after her for a while? I’ll just go somewhere and I can’t bring her there. Please Baekhyun, Chanyeol. I will be back soon.”

“We were never friends, Oh Sehun.” Baekhyun says in a rush as Chanyeol seconds the motion, not wanting this responsibility even if it’s only for a while.

“Please Baekhyun, Chanyeol, I will be back soon, I swear.” Before the two can answer, Sehun puts the carrier down and bags down, rushing to leave and thanking them on his way out before Chanyeol and Baekhyun can even give everything back to him.

“Oh Sehun, I hate that I ever liked you!” Baekhyun screams, walking away from Chanyeol who’s holding the carrier and bags, letting the alpha deal with this because he’s exhausted. Chanyeol looks at the baby like a piece of furniture that needs to be assembled, asking Baekhyun if he knows anything about baby care because he works as a designer at a baby clothing company. Baekhyun flops on Chanyeol’s bed, throwing a childish tantrum with matching leg kicks and little punchy fists because his poor little heart’s shattered by this surprise. Chanyeol sees a child on his bed at this point, for Baekhyun hasn’t changed out of his cute boy outfit and the beret on his head.

“Hey, are you crying?” Chanyeol sits next to him after putting the carrier at the corner of the room, patting his back comfortingly. “Were you truly hoping you and Sehun would ride to the sunset together? He never looked at you that way before, not even once.” Because Chanyeol barricaded Baekhyun already before any of the presented alphas could even look at the omega.

“Thanks, Park Chanyeol! Thank you for crushing my heart further!” Baekhyun punches his side out of frustration, fighting against Chanyeol’s hold as they wrestle each other until the omega loses strength first, pinned against the mattress. He shuts his eyes tightly, refusing to cry over something stupid as Chanyeol coos. “This is so not fair!”

“What is not fair?” Chanyeol asks softly, hovering over him. “That Sehun’s now a father? Did you even want to have a child of your own or get married? You never said anything about it.” Baekhyun glares at Chanyeol, unable to answer him. “We both know nothing about this so I’ll need your help until Sehun comes back.”

“I only know how to dress them, not to take care of them. It’s two different things.” Baekhyun sasses.

“What will we do about the baby then? You can’t miss work, obviously.” Chanyeol rests his weight on Baekhyun’s body, pondering like this.

“You’re not skipping work again tomorrow. You already missed work today because of me. Can’t we just give her back to her other parent or…or tell the police we found her at our door?” Baekhyun isn’t ready for life’s curveball, still unpacking today’s events and that bad dream.

“You’re really tired.” Chanyeol notices. “Go get ready for bed, I’ll make some calls about this.” He pats Baekhyun’s thigh lightly before getting up. Baekhyun stretches his arms out, pouting so Chanyeol can help him stand. The alpha sighs and pulls him up, standing chest to chest with the omega that makes his heart pitter patter ridiculously. “You don’t have to think about anything. I’ll see what I can do with the baby.” Chanyeol assures as Baekhyun leans on him in thanks. “What could be so hard about this? I mean I’ve had a pet before.” Baekhyun looks at the baby sleeping in the carrier thoughtlessly then detaches from Chanyeol to prepare for bed, eyes expressionless and cold towards her already.

Chanyeol sits on his bed with a deep sigh, unsure of where to begin with this either. He sees papers tucked to her side, running a hand over his face because this is really Sehun’s baby. Sehun has a short explanation as well, apologizing about this because he found her at her doorstep a day ago. The baby looks so peaceful in the carrier, unaware of the chaos around her as Chanyeol feels sorry already. One thing’s for sure, he’ll make Sehun pay after this.
