“What’s something you think about everyday?”
It was a simple question from an interviewer continuing on from a fan question of ‘how often do you think about the roman empire’. Calum didn’t understand the initial question, he doesn’t think he’s ever thought about the roman empire since the history quiz when he was eleven.
When the question expanded to something they do think of every day, Calum paused. There is a lot of things that he thinks of often but everyday? That’s a lot of fucking days. 365 days in a year. He doesn’t think he’s ever had 365 thoughts in a year.
There’s the obvious thoughts that everyone thinks of nearly every day. Did he turn the oven off? Is his handbrake on? Did he double check the locks before he went to bed? But even those thoughts don’t occur every day.
The conversation became a blur behind his thoughts as he let the other three take over the question, their answers being as simple as the ones Calum had thought about.
“I don’t know, probably about what I’m having for dinner?” Luke answered with a small laugh, giggling at his own joke.
And that laugh with the small smile accompanying it might be the thing Calum thinks of everyday. Maybe he just thinks about Luke everyday, but there’s something else about hearing his laugh that switches Calum’s brain off and all he can think about is Luke . How cute he is when giggles and sometimes hides his smile behind his hand or runs his fingers through his hair. How handsome he is when his head tips back and he laughs freely and wholeheartedly. How attractive and down right hot it is when he smirks and chuckles lowly in a way that makes Calum positively melt.
Calum thanks god everyday that he can be the one to make that smile appear and hear the melodic sound of all the different types of laugh Luke has. Even on a bad day, Calum will just double his efforts to see the slightest hints of a smile or even just a little weight taken off the other’s shoulders. It’s an absolute privilege and Calum takes that very seriously.
As much as Calum wishes he could answer the question honestly and tell everyone the absolute delight that is his internal guide to Luke Hemmings’ laugh and the difference and meaning behind each one, a part of him likes being the only one with that knowledge. That and he doesn’t think anyone else in the room would appreciate the hour rant he would go on especially when the original question was about the roman empire.
When everyone had answered and the interviewer had turned towards him looking for his answer he quickly decided to answer in a joking tone about leaving the oven on. It’s an easy answer that gets a laugh from the interviewer and a comment from Ashton about how boring their answers were.
As everyone else jokes around Calum looks across the sofa to where Luke is sitting and finds him staring back. As much as he wishes to make his love known during a random interview on a Tuesday morning, he knew it was not the time nor place but the look he receives from luke across the sofa is enough for him to know that his love is reciprocated.
