Work Text:

Mephone4 was laying on the ground, looking at the night sky which have a few stars twinkled every once and then. The sound of crickets spoke to him, putting him at ease alongside the others that were already sleeping.

He then glanced to the light globes he generated. There four of them floating around, keeping him mentally secured while he was trying to fall asleep. They remind him of something, or rather, someone...

Before he came here, before he left. The last season of his show really gave him interesting memories, ones are bad, ones are good, but he didn't seem to care for either of them, except for a curtain memory that he had promised to keep and thought about a lot of times.

That was the time when he was finally given a chance to trust.

Mephone4 closed his eyes, imagining the scenario of himself back in season two. He was lying on the grass with his eyes wide opened. Like the present, he was looking at the sky, but in the most stressful way possible. His generating power needed an update, it was taking an awfully long time for that to be done and he couldn't use it to create lights.

He tried everything he could to force himself to sleep, but without his lights, it was hopeless. They were the only things that made him feel safe. As his stress starting to build up, someone sat down by his side.

The movement made him flinch. Mephone4 turned to look at the object and saw Lightbulb staring at him in concern.

"Oh uh... hi" He awkwardly greet, unsure how to act around the girl.

"Hey there" She sounded cheerful though looking quite sleepy: "I was trying to make sure if you're okay?"

"Hm yeah I'm fine... " Mephone4 sighed, gluing his eyes to the ground: "... I can't sleep, that's all"

"Oh... "

...

They both sat there in an awkward silence. Mephone4 took a glance to Lightbulb beside him. She looked tired, and was almost on the verge of going unconscious. The fact that she decided to stay awake confused him, she did it for what? Just as he wanted to tell her to go to sleep, Lightbulb asked:

"Is something bothering you?"

"Huh? Um" Mephone4 looked at her in surprise. He hesitantly said: "Yeah... kind of, not big of a deal anyways"

"Why's that?"

Fantastic, now she's asking too much.

"I- just- dammit" He couldn't believe he's gonna tell this to her: "Okay, don't laugh at me for this, please"

"Promise!" She grinned in reassurance, giving him two thumbs up.

And then he told her about his sleeping issue, and how he needed lights to fall asleep. Lightbulb listened very attentively, she did not judge him, nor laugh at him, but only gave him a genuine smile filled with kindness that encourage him to talk more confidently.

"... I couldn't just wait til tomorrow! But I have no idea how to help myself right now" He sighed tiredly: "Guess I'll just stay awake while you guys are sleeping"

Lightbulb let out a small 'oh', she then thought for a while, trying to find out a way to fix this problem. Mephone4 couldn't help but smile, he found her eagerness to help quite endearing.

"Oh! Oh! I know" She beamed though was still tired. Her eyes twinkled like the stars on the sky: "Mephone, why need those lights when you have me!"

"Eh? What do yo- woah!" Mephone4 covered his eyes almost immediately at the sudden brightness. It took him some seconds to finally adjust his vision, now paying attention to Lightbulb: "Why did I forget you can actually do that... "

Lightbulb was now much more brighter than she was before. Though Mephone4 was caught off guard by her light at first, but once get used to it he realized that it wasn't too bad. In fact, he sensed a bit of comfort from her brightness while sitting in the dark outdoor. It wasn't the kind that hurt your eyes, but more of the kind that was weirdly soothing in his opinion.

And most importantly, Lightbulb. She was beyond pretty, brighter than the moon itself while still having the warmest glow.

"There we go!" She laid back down on the grass: "Is this okay? Or am I too bright?"

"It's perfect" He complimented. Mephone4 then looked at her in worries: "Though... are you sure you can sleep like this?"

"Nahhh, I'll be just fine" Lightbulb giggled, rolling on the other side as she faced Mephone4: "I can sleep while my light are on. It'll die down after a VERY long time so don't worry"

"That's... Good"

After confirming that it was totally safe for Lightbulb to keep her light up all night, Mephone4 comfortably laid on the ground. He stared at the sky, then to Lightbulb lying beside him who was still trying to find a comfortable position.

Lightbulb suddenly turned to face him, smiling as she said: "Oh and by the way, sleeping with lights on is perfectly normal! No one's gonna laugh at you for that"

"But what if they do?"

"Then they're just jerks that don't want others to have nice things" She huffed: "Just- you do you, alright?"

Mephone4 blinked a few times, then smile in appreciation of her words. It wasn't that big of an effort to comfort him, but it was by far the most meaningful thing someone had told him.

Later on, Lightbulb had finally fallen asleep and her light was in fact still on. Mephone4 looked at her sleeping peacefully as his eyes started to flutter. His eyelids slowly closed shut, his body relaxed knowing the comforting light was there right beside him.

And as of right now, Mephone4 has to remind himself. After he's done with everything, he should go back to see her again.

With that thought in mind, he fell into a dreamless sleep.
