Work Text:
"Pearl."
'Greg.'
Their eyes meet, a cold atmosphere that was being glazed over with the morning dawn. The sun pouring all over the landscape, her multi-coloured gem glimmering by the sunrise.
"Did you just... wake up?"
'I recall telling you we don't necessarily need to sleep.'
"But you still can."
'I am implying I did not.'
Greg uncomfortably shifted as he stood. Nervously fiddling with his sandals, he gazed at Pearl's tired expression.
"Something bothering you?"
'Many things.'
"Do you wanna talk about it?"
Pearl glanced back at his dark brown eyes, which were painted with the earth.
'I still can never understand why...'
She had greatly sighed and gripped her fists.
'I stood by her side for centuries, and I thought we could've had something more.'
Greg stepped back and gripped his shoulder.
'I thought I could've been more to her.'
'She had simply left me all alone. I got so carried away, thinking she'd see me in a light, that I saw her in.'
Greg held her hand and wiped her tears. Pearl stared at him, unable to speak, unable to move, unable to keep her calm composure.
"Not a day goes by where I miss Rose." Greg sighed "Will it ease the burden, if I say I share your pain? The loss of a loved one?"
'I am unsure what will.'
Greg sighs and hugs her close. "I'm sorry."
'If Rose could say the same.' Pearl sighed and rests on his shoulder.
