Chapter 1: Drunk-Dazed

Chapter Text

With a hefty sigh, Arin threw her bag onto her bed, and plopped into her desk chair. It had been a long day at work. Right about now she was ready to just forget it all and immerse herself in the sweet release of gaming. It was almost as if it were a routine thing when her small cat Hattie jumped up onto her lap and got comfortable. Arin ran a hand over her soft head, scratching slightly behind her ears, earning a light purr from Hattie. The girl then turned her chair to be flush with the desk and turned her computer on. The small kitten let out a meow when the pets stopped, causing Arin to giggle.

“I'm so sorry miss ma'am.” She cooed at her, scratching the top of her head once again as the PC booted up. In the distance the sound of the front door could be heard as one of the roommates arrived home. “Arin! I'm home from work! Wanna get some gaming done?” Poppy’s voice boomed throughout the house, “Yeah! I was already getting on anyway! Where’s Eva? I thought she was off today.” The girl called back, turning slightly so she could face the bedroom door, where her friend Poppy was now making her way towards.

The other girl shrugged, checking her phone. “It’s already six thirty, she should be around by now. Maybe she’s out with Ryan.” Poppy suggested, rolling her eyes as she mentioned Ryan, Eva’s boyfriend. “Could be. Oh well, her loss. Now, go get on before I change my mind.” With that, Poppy hightailed it to her own room, quickly turning her pc on.

Once they were both online, they hopped into a discord call with their other friends to play some Overwatch. “Howdy friends.” Arin said in a sing-song voice, launching the game. “Hi hi!” “Hola.” Said their two friends, Yumi and Aniya, who were also on the call with them.

Not only did Arin play with her two roommates, but they also have three friends they met through gaming. Yumi is a sweet girl who they met through Overwatch, along with their friend Aniya as well, who was like the opposite of Yumi. Aside from being completely different, the two girls were best friends. However, they met their third friend through a different game, called Valorant. His name is Wade, the goofy type, the one who always wants to keep the jokes rolling.

Most of the time the group didn’t care if they won the game or not, so long as they were having fun. Other times, the win really did matter. Just depended on how everyone was feeling at the time.

A few hours went by with Poppy and Arin playing their games, when finally the front door to the apartment slammed open. Arin pushed her headphones off her ears, turning to her bedroom door, seeing someone run past it. “Eva?” She called out, standing up. Quickly, she leaned down and spoke into her microphone. “I’ll be back guys.” She said to her friends before quickly wandering off into Eva’s room, who was now laid out on her bed. Small sobs came from her as Arin slowly approached her. “Eva… honey what's wrong?” She asked, taking a seat next to her friend, rubbing her back. “Ryan is such.. An ass!” Eva suddenly flung herself up, resting on her knees as she looked at her roommate. “I broke up with him… that ass.” She let out a small hiccup, then flopped back down onto her stomach, then rolled over to face the ceiling.

“Evangeline, are you drunk??” Arin called her out quickly, shaking her head at the blonde. “Maybe.” She said with a chuckle, squinting her eyes at Arin. “Get up, let’s get you some water. Poppy!! Will you turn off my computer and meet me in the living room??” The brunette called out, pulling Eva’s arm and helping her out to the kitchen. “We should move.” Eva said suddenly, looking at Arin cautiously. “What do you mean move? Where would we even go?” “Korea.”

“Are you crazy?? We can’t move to Korea, Eva, we have all we need here.” Arin scoffed, gently pushing the girl into a dining room chair. With that, she grabbed a cup from the cabinet and filled it with water. “I’m serious, Arin. Let’s just move to Korea. Why not? None of us.. Talk to our parents, none of us have boyfriends now. We have nothing.. Holding us here.” Her words made Arin stop to think, but she shook her head after a minute. “It’s not a bad idea Rin and you know it. Weren’t you just talking about it last year?” Poppy questioned, looking Arin in her eyes.

“Yeah but like that was before I actually thought about it. We can’t just pack up and move anywhere.” The girl said with a slight scowl. “Now, let’s get you to bed before you say anything else like that.”

With that Poppy and Arin got Eva into her bed with little complaints and went to bed themselves. The next morning all three were off from work. Arin was already in the kitchen making breakfast for everyone when a groggy Eva stumbled down the hallway. “Morning sleepy head.” Rin greeted her, giving her a small smile. You could tell by the way her hair was messy and her clothes all tangled around her body that she got a good night's rest. “Waffles?” Was all the blonde asked as she scratched her head, sitting down at the table. “Of course waffles.. It's waffle wednesday.” Arin replied, starting to get plates down from the cabinet as Poppy also made her way into the kitchen to join her friends.

“I still think you should consider what Eva said last night Rin. I think it would be fun. We’ve always wanted to move out of the country together and I don’t see why we can’t.” The older of the three spoke up finally after a few minutes. Arin let out a groan and threw some waffles onto each plate, then handed them to her friends. “She was drunk Pop, come on.” She said, rolling her eyes at the idea. “I still remember it, and I still think we should.” Eva noted, digging into her breakfast. “Are you serious?” “Deadly.”

Arin thought for a second, then turned around to the stove, taking the pan off and setting it in the sink. “I’ll have to think about it. I mean I guess we do have our trip fund.. But if we use that..” She began thinking to herself for a moment then finally looked at her friends. “Alright fine.. If you guys are serious about this then. But we’re going to have to pay for our stuff to get shipped ahead of time.” The two other girls cheered, high fiving each other. “We’re very serious. And I will start packing today. Everyone turn in your two weeks notice!! We’re going to Korea!!!” Eva began shouting, leaving her food at the table as she ran to her room to begin packing.

Not even a minute later Poppy was also gone, running to grab her keys so she could go get boxes for everything. “I guess I've been tasked with finding us a place. They are so lucky we already have our passports..” Arin took her plate of food to her room, setting it on her desk as she sat down to turn it on. As she munched on the food, she began searching for places in South Korea. This was going to be an interesting few weeks.

-

Only a day had passed when the anxiety kicked in. So many emotions overwhelmed the three. On this particular day, it was like Arin couldn’t stop herself from feeling so engulfed by everything. The black haired girl sat at her desk, barely even paying attention to her computer screen as a video played softly from her speakers. Her orange cat, Hattie, sat calmly on her lap, purring away endlessly. However, Arin’s mind was clearly elsewhere. It wasn’t until the sound of the front door made her come back to reality. Confused, she shut off her pc and set the cat down on the floor as she stood up to see who it was, only to be met by Poppy’s smiling face.

“Howdy roomie.” The red head cheered, walking past the other girl to make it to her room. Rin quickly followed behind. “Any luck?” Poppy asked, turning around to face her friend once they were both in her room. Arin shook her head, looking down at her feet. “Hey, listen. I know it’s going to be hard to find something so short notice and with our limited budget, but something will pop up! I know it will!”

Arin smiled slightly at how optimistic the girl was. “Thanks Pop, I really needed to hear that.” She replied, wrapping the older girl into a hug, which was gladly accepted. “I’m gonna go get back at it. Maybe something will come up.” She said, backing out of Poppy’s room. “I’ll join you, go get started, I'll get snacks.”

When both girls had finally sat down to get started, Poppy had collected a bag of Sunchips, two cups of sweet tea, and a box of thin mint cookies to munch on. Arin quickly pulled up the different websites she had been searching on as she ate at a cookie. “Okay, so I favorited a few that were in our price range, so I will show you those first.” She said, opening the tab with her favorites. “It has been really hard just trying to find one with enough rooms, unless you guys are fine with sharing a bedroom.” Rin mumbled, scrolling through the webpage.

“I think that would be fine honestly.. Not optimal, but it would have to do.” Poppy nodded, sipping on her tea. “Let's message Ev and see what she thinks and go from there. Cause that can really narrow down the search.” She then pulled out her phone and opened her messages between her and Eva while Arin continued to scroll.

WAIT WE CAN GET BUNK BEDS

Poppy looked up from her phone, and turned it toward Arin. “Bunk beds? That would be cute, except it would technically be one bunk bed and a single bed.” The black haired girl chuckled, earning a light smack on the back of the head. “Okay okay, looking for a one bedroom..” She giggled, turning back to the computer. “That’s what I thought” Poppy replied with a smirk.

The rest of that evening the two looked through all kinds of different apartments in Seoul, until eventually Eva got home and joined them. “Have you guys talked with Yumi yet?” Evs asked ask she wheeled her desk chair into Arin’s room, earning a nod from both of them. “She said that her and her brother could look at the apartments for us since they’re up there, and she’s going to ask him what websites would be the best for us to look at.” Rin replied, turning to face her two friends.

“What time is it for her?” Eva asked, looking at their own time, which was currently six in the afternoon. “It’s like, eight in the morning for her, she should be awake.” Arin said, reaching for her phone. “Here I’ll message the group chat.”

“Rin this is why he flirts with you.. Cause you do shit like that.” Eva said bluntly, munching on one of the cookies. “Whatever, just pull up that stupid website and let's take a look. Can’t hurt.” Poppy interjected, reaching over to take the bag of chips from Arin. Once she typed in the website it popped up immediately, and she started by sorting her search from lowest to highest. Her jaw dropped almost instantly. “That is a whole three bedroom apartment, IN OUR BUDGET.” It was like destiny almost, or so it felt. “We have to apply, we may never find another chance like this.” Poppy cheered, clapping her hands together excitedly.
