Work Text:

Daeyoung couldn't shake the feeling that he might be under someone's spell. He believed he had fallen for the stranger's enchanting aura, which seemed to invade his thoughts every time he slept, ate, or even just went about his day. Now, Daeyoung had developed a habit of riding his bicycle near the beach where he first met the guy every morning before heading to work. Despite the new route making him 20 minutes later than usual, Daeyoung didn't mind as long as he could catch a glimpse of the mysterious stranger every day on his way to work.

The first time his eyes landed on the stranger, Daeyoung was dazed and he is certain that it wasn't because of the summer heat. That day was his day off so Daeyoung decided to heal himself from the stress of work and have a slow relaxing bicycle ride to the beach. The day was hot with summer heat but Daeyoung paid no mind as the fresh breeze and the smell of the ocean sea brought him peace.

Daeyoung scrolls through the empty beach as it's still early in the morning until he stops on the track as he notices someone is lying alone in the middle of empty shores, sunbathing under the sun. Even so, Daeyoung couldn't be sure if the person is truly sunbathing because of how fully-dressed the stranger is with an oversized black t-shirt and a pair of shorts. But then, as Daeyoung already drowned into the charm, he mindlessly parked his bicycle and decided to watch the view from afar.

From the far and with a care look, Daeyoung notices every detail that he is gonna end up admiring. The stranger has such a small and gentle face while his eyes are covered with a pair of dark sunglasses. His pair of lips are small and pink that Daeyoung is itchy to touch and how he thought it's such a shame that he couldn't see the man’s face much closer; eyes by eyes. Then, the fluffy black hair that gently reflects the sun makes him think how it would be very nice to be touched and caressed gently based on how soft they look.

The mysterious stranger is lying against the sandy ground, without caring how the sand will dirt all over his clothes and skin. Even from afar, Daeyoung is able to feel the calm energy that radiates from the stranger. For a couple of minutes, Daeyoung feels a surge of energy that helps him calm and be at unbelievable peace that he never felt before but yet somehow, it feels familiar.

Daeyoung wishes he could stay and watch the stranger but it would be better if he went back home before the stranger notices him and accuses him as a creep. Looking at the clock on his wrist, Daeyoung decides that the time is getting late and he has to go back home to feed the stray cat who lived near his apartment.

Before leaving, Daeyoung turned his head around to take one last look but how strange, the dainty figure is now gone; nowhere in sight. The stranger might also have decided to go as well, but Daeyoung is dumbfounded how fast he has gone before him.

Daeyoung reached home 30 minutes later, having stopped by the mini supermarket to buy a few cans of tuna. As he stepped onto the second floor of his apartment, a smile spread across his face when he spotted a familiar stray black cat sitting in front of his doorstep. With light steps, Daeyoung approached and greeted the cat by the name he had given it. “Koo, you're here?” Daeyoung crouched down to pet the cat.

Without resistance, Koo purred under the gentle touch, showing his affection for the human. The soothing purrs surged through Daeyoung, healing him and sending him into a serotonin boost.

“You must be hungry by now, let's go inside and I will give you a can of delicious tuna. '' Daeyoung unlocked the door and opened the door wide so that Koo is able to step inside of his apartment. Daeyoung settled the grocery bag on top of the kitchen counter before he plated the cat food nicely into the smallest size of plate that he only used to feed the stray.

Daeyoung lets out a small giggles seeing the cat's behaviour who had been waiting at the unofficial assigned eating area next to the dinner table. Carefully, Daeyoung placed down the plate and silently watched the cat allowing himself to eat his lunch.

Koo wasn't owned by anyone in the neighbourhood, and Daeyoung's only duty was to feed the stray. His first act of care began one night when he spotted the cat seeking shelter from the heavy rain. Koo was shaking from the cold, and his body was weak from hunger. Without hesitation, Daeyoung wrapped the poor cat in his jacket and brought him to his apartment to warm up. He prepared a basket, placing a hot pack wrapped in another towel inside, and gently settled the cat into it for warmth and comfort.

With the subtle heat radiating from the hot pack, Koo's shivering gradually subsided, and Daeyoung felt relieved by the improvement. As the weather calmed, Daeyoung hurried to the mini-supermarket to buy a few cans of tuna. Upon returning, he immediately offered the cat a plate of food.

With caution, Koo sniffed the food before devouring it until his empty stomach was full. For several days, Daeyoung cared for the cat and named him Koo. On the first night, Daeyoung slept in his bed while Koo slept in the warm basket. This routine continued for the next three nights. Then, one night, when it was raining heavily outside, Daeyoung woke up to find Koo's fluffy fur on his face. Overwhelmed with happiness, Daeyoung went back to sleep with the cuddly cat resting soundly on top of his head.

Though, the happiness doesn't last longer than he thought.  The next morning, Daeyoung woke up with sunny weather as the sun shyly peeked through the opened window of his bedroom. Daeyoung searches for Koo around the house and the cat is nowhere to be found, which he quickly realises that the cat may have gone for good.

Disappointed, Daeyoung continues living his life hoping that one day, Koo will come back. Little did he know, his prayer was heard when Daeyoung was greeted by Koo in front of his apartment’s doorstep two weeks later. Koo is sleeping soundly, his body curled in protectively. With careful steps in fear to not disturb the cat, Daeyoung approached Koo. Even with the careful steps, Koo jolted up- fully alarmed to the sudden movement approaching him.

With the reaction, Daeyoung quickly muttered sorry as if the cat understands human language. Daeyoung then carefully pointed his finger forward for Koo as a sign of greeting. Koo took a long sniff before gently licking on the human’s finger pointed towards him.

“I'm glad that you remembered me,” Daeyoung said with relief. “Are you hungry? Hm?” Koo answered with a loud purr which Daeyoung believes it's translated as yes.

“Let's go inside then, I have a few cans left of your food in the cabinet.” Daeyoung said while offering the cat his way inside the apartment.

Feeding the ownerless cat and allowing it to roam freely had become a routine for Daeyoung.

Another routine that has become a habit for Daeyoung is to take a glimpse of a mysterious stranger every time he passes by the beach.

Given his day off or on his way to work, Daeyoung never failed to pass by the beach while riding on his bicycle. It's been a week since he last saw the stranger and Daeyoung has been circling around the beach almost everyday. Today too, as Daeyoung is on the way back home from work, the expected figure is nowhere to be seen. Disappointed, Daeyoung pushed the pedals and went back to his rented apartment.

Upon arrival, Koo is waiting for the human again at the same place and as soon as Daeyoung's steps are getting closer, Koo runs towards him as if the cat has been missing the human.

“Aigoo~you're such a cutie” Daeyoung cooed, crouching his tall body down to match the cat's height though he is still taller. Never in Daeyoung's life, thought to become a cat owner even as a part-time owner. He remembered how he used to beg his parents to have a pet cat but the wish was never granted until he graduated and moved to Japan. When Koo begins to be a part of his life, Daeyoung does tons of research and even learns about cat's behaviour and anatomy.

Daeyoung laughs at the never-ending headbutting he receives from Koo and is happy to know that he is well loved by the stray cat he feeds regularly. “Hmm, I'm glad you're here with me. Ever since I moved here alone for almost a year and half, I'm glad you suddenly showed up in front of my doorstep and healed my loneliness-” Daeyoung scratches the area of Koo’s neck which he responded with a purr. “-but these days, the loneliness begins to swarm over me again. It got worse when I saw that mysterious stranger the other day. It seems like there is something about him that makes me couldn't sleep or eat without him lingering inside my brain. Wish I had a clear image of how he looks and that's why, Koo, I wish I had another chance to meet him and maybe we could exchange a few words.”

As both of them were having the best time of their lives together, suddenly the door of his neighbour clicked open, revealing a woman in her mid 50s.  She has short permed hair, her body is slightly hunched over because of old age and there's trash within her weak grasps. Two of them exchange looks between each other in sync while Koo keeps his guard up towards the stranger.

“Oh, hello” Daeyoung Immediately stood up and greeted the elder properly.

“My,my. Daeyoung-kun” she returned the greeting with a high voice tone. “Did you just get back from work?”

“Yes, I am,” He smiled.

“Oh! Look at you,” Daeyoung turned his head around towards where his sweet-old neighbour put her attention. She is looking at Koo who is on a caution stance; giving the poor old woman a warning to not get any closer.

“Oh my, my. You're such a pretty cat but it's such a shame you're one feral cat. Did you know Daeyoung-kun?” She's now shifted her attention back to Daeyoung. He keeps the smile polite on his face, encouraging the elder to continue.

“-the other day, my daughter saw this cat sleeping in front of your doormat. She thought that it would be a good idea to pet the cat thinking that he's a sweet cat. At the end, my daughter's wrist got a few lines of scratch” She then laughed at the flashback of her daughter's suffering.

“It's such a pity, you know. We have seen this cat sleeping on your doormat whenever you're off to work so we thought he'd been a good kitty but it seems like he hates everyone but you.” She laughed before excusing herself to dispose of the garbage. Daeyoung had offered to help but was dismissed by the elder. By the time the elder comes back, both Daeyoung and the feral cat are gone inside the house.

Just like their usual routine, Daeyoung feeds Koo, ranting about the mysterious stranger he saw, cuddling with Koo, and then the cat went on his way. That night, Daeyoung slept alone on his bed without the presence of someone else.

🐈‍⬛

The weekend has arrived once again, and the morning sun greets Daeyoung as he wakes up in a good mood. After washing his face and brushing his teeth, Daeyoung prepares himself a simple breakfast of toasted bread with scrambled eggs on the side, accompanied by a glass of hot coffee.

After finishing breakfast, Daeyoung chugged the last drop of his coffee before washing the dishes. With a spring in his step and his favourite Schubert piano piece blasting from the speakers, Daeyoung changed out of his pyjamas into a pair of shorts and a simple white t-shirt. The weather had been nice since he woke up, he thought, prompting Daeyoung to decide on a morning walk.

Riding his old bicycle, Daeyoung explores the peaceful, quiet neighbourhood. Even from a distance, the sound of waves hitting the shore remains vivid, and Daeyoung closes his eyes to immerse himself in the sea's sounds and scent. 'What a nice day,' he thinks to himself. Despite falling asleep feeling void and lonely the night before, Daeyoung strangely finds comfort in his sleep and wakes up with a light heart.

Upon reaching the beach where he always stopped, Daeyoung was stunned as he noticed a familiar silhouette lying in the same spot where he had last seen him. Once again, without a care in the world, the stranger was sunbathing under the sun, wearing the same shirt and shorts that exposed his tanned legs. This time, Daeyoung was also astonished by the fact that a pair of sunglasses wasn't perched on the bridge of the stranger's nose, revealing his face.

“This is it! It's time,” Daeyoung whispered to himself with strong determination. The right moment for him and the mysterious stranger was here. It had to be today, or he would lose another chance. With light yet enthusiastic steps, Daeyoung hurriedly walked towards the stranger. He left his old bicycle lying on the shore, not caring that it would get dirty. This was unusual for him, as he always kept his only property with utmost care.

This time though, with a sense of urgency and eagerness, Daeyoung did not care.

It's a foolish and sudden decision. The moment of realisation freezes Daeyoung in his tracks. He's almost halfway from the side shore to where the stranger is lying when reality hits him.

"Is it okay for me to approach him without any other reasonable intention? It's probably fine if I just want to say hi. But what do I say next? 'Hi, I've been waiting for you at the same place, same time, every day since last Sunday.' That would just make me a creep." Daeyoung wrestles with his thoughts, standing motionless in the middle of the shore.

“You there,” an unfamiliar voice shook Daeyoung out from his inner thoughts. Immediately, Daeyoung recognised the voice and its owner. After all, there were only two of them in the empty beach placed at the remote village.

“Don't just stand there and come here sit with me” The stranger speaks again, patting the ground on his left. As if he knew that someone is trying to approach him and there's not a single hint of trouble planted on his face.

Compliant to the stranger's command, Daeyoung moves his steps again and sits on the spot where the stranger offered him. Now that they are sitting close beside each other, each of their breaths can be heard, it feels surreal for Daeyoung- his breath hitched at the sight of the stranger sitting closer to him.

At the careful sight, Daeyoung carefully studies the other's facial structure; from the way his nose is shaped, his small and pink pair of lips, his long eyelashes visibly displayed as his eyes closed, feeling the sunlight hitting his face. Daeyoung also notices a slight blush rose on the stranger's cheeks.

“Pretty” He simply described. And he may have said it out loud as the stranger looked up to him with wide, rounded eyes. Daeyoung boldly returned the eye contact and would love to admire the pair of sparkly eyes but it was such a shame that the other pulled his head away and looked far into the sight of sea. The slight blush is now spread more vividly, making Daeyoung can't help but smile adoring him.

They sit together on the sandy shore, sharing silent companionship. Without exchanging a word, they both find solace in the view and the soothing sound of the waves, which seem to heal them both. Daeyoung reflects on the strangeness of the current moment. Two strangers who met just 15 minutes ago, yet the warmth of their presence creates a comfortable and pleasant silence between them.

But then, the stranger moves his face upwards toward the sky, both of his eyes closed feeling the weather. Humming, he then breaks the silence with a low yet sweet voice. “It's going to rain tonight. A heavy rain”

Confused, Daeyoung looked up to the clear sky above him. “Rain? How do you know that?”

“...I just knew” He simply answered as if he had the ability to predict the weather. “And I knew today's gonna be sunny as well. That's why I'm here.”

Daeyoung went silent. Apart from not being able to ask another question, Daeyoung thinks of the past days he has been waiting for the stranger to show up. About the weather and how those days affect the stranger's mood to sunbathe at the beach in the morning. Well, most of the weather was either too hot or even if it's summer season, the rain has been pouring non-stop. Usually when it rains, Daeyoung would find Koo sleeping by his side or in his basket.

As Daeyoung is lost in thought, the stranger suddenly stands up and brushes the sand off his black t-shirt and shorts. 'It's my lunchtime. See you, human,' he says before walking away, leaving Daeyoung in awe. Barefoot, the stranger walks along the sandy shore, gradually moving further away. With his long legs, Daeyoung quickly gets back on his feet and begins to chase after the departing stranger.

“Wait” He halted the stranger. “I…have my bike, there-” Daeyoung pointed towards his clumsily parked bicycle.

Without a word, the stranger looked at Daeyoung with eyes filled with questions and he thought that the round-dark eyes felt so familiar. And adorable too. He would be a pretty cat if he were one.

"Um, we can go to lunch together if you want?" Daeyoung offered, feeling his nerves swell.

"Sure... but I don't have any human money," the stranger replied.

At the response, Daeyoung's smile widened so much that his snaggletooth showed. When the stranger noticed, a small smile formed on his lips. Daeyoung, perhaps a little too excited, didn't realise that the stranger's mannerisms were unusual.

Daeyoung dashed towards his old bicycle, picking it up and riding back towards the stranger. "Hop on!" he offered, patting the seat behind him.

Daeyoung brings the stranger to the small and old restaurant near the beach. It takes them for five minutes to reached with Daeyoung's bicycle. The restaurant is Daeyoung's favourite place to eat. Though it is old, and the restaurant is decorated without any fancy decorations or expensive tables, the interior radiates a cosy and homey atmosphere which makes Daeyoung feel back at home.

“I'm sorry but you don't have any shoes?” Daeyoung asked with concern whilst parked his bike outside of the restaurant. The stranger lowers his head down, takes a glance over his bare feets and shakes his head in small.

“I hate wearing them, so I threw them away”

“I see,” Daeyoung hummed. “but your feet will get hurt or worse a cut that might cause you to bleed”

The stranger says nothing but continues looking into both of his feets. Perhaps checking for any little cuts just like Daeyoung said.

“hurt-” the stranger then raised his right foot, exposing the back of his foot slightly below his knee.

“Oh no, that's too bad.” Daeyoung said with a sense of guilt and pity. He took off both of his yellow slippers and arranged them neatly in front of the stranger. Without any words that formed to communicate between them, the stranger slips on the slippers. As Daeyoung silently watched, he amused how the pair of dark eyes darkened; getting comfortable with the slippers.

“Comfortable?” He asked.

“Yes…”

Daeyoung smiles at the reply like a parent that finally succeeds in making his child wear shoes.

“What a bizarre guy!” He thought. But yet, Daeyoung finds himself drowning into the stranger's charm again.

While eating, Daeyoung discovers that the stranger is a picky eater. Daeyoung ordered himself a bowl of ramen. Meanwhile, the stranger keeps on looking into the menu book- looking at the pictures.

“What are you going to eat?” The stranger didn't answer him, instead, religiously flipping the menu looking for something to eat.

“...meat.” He then said in a small voice, his face almost touching the surface of the menu.

“Meat?” Daeyoung asked for confirmation and the stranger nodded with eyes sparkled with the word.

“Then, how about katsudon?”

“Katsudon?”

“Yep, Katsudon. On top of rice, they topped it up with fried pork-cutlet. How about that?” Daeyoung patiently explained the meal to the stranger who seemed not familiar with the dish.

“Pork?” Daeyoung responded in authentic nods. “Okay,” they ended up ordering a bowl of ramen and a bowl of katsudon.

As the food arrives, Daeyoung eats his ramen while the stranger sloppily enjoys his katsudon meal. He gripped onto his spoon awkwardly, like a toddler who just learned how to feed himself. They both eat in silence, with Daeyoung silently observing the stranger's eating habits. Daeyoung finds it adorable how the stranger carefully examines the food, sniffing it before taking a small bite.

“He's like a cat, if he is, were one” Daeyoung thinks to himself, reminiscing about Koo's behaviour when he first fed the cat. Talk about being a picky eater as well, the stranger left a whole bunch of rice and finished his meal with the meat only. He also tried the green tea served but getting visibly disgusted by the test and Daeyoung quickly poured in the plain water for the stranger to wash off the bizarre taste.

Again, “what an interesting guy” Daeyoung told himself.

“Anyway, I know this is too late to ask, what is your name?” Daeyoung released the bike stand where he parked outside the restaurant earlier. The summer heat has slowly caught up to Daeyoung and he slowly begins to sweat.

The stranger went silent, as if he was thinking about his own name. “I don't have a name- a human name” he then said which left daeyoung in confusion. What a strange thing to say, and how is it possible for someone to not have a name.

“You don't have a human name…? So, you're saying that you have another name?”

“Yes, but it's not my human name,” The stranger replied.

The silence is deafening. Daeyoung who for the first time ever doesn't know how to respond nor gives a reaction. Suddenly, the stranger looked up towards Daeyoung with glittering eyes.

“You. Give me the name” he then demanded.

“Oh. Then, how about…Riku?” Daeyoung suggested. The name that he thought of in a few seconds.

“Riku…okay then, my human name is Riku.” The stranger with a freshly given name approved. Somehow, Daeyoung feels proud of himself and he can't help but smile subtly.

“So, you like the name?” Daeyoung asked in a curious tone. He still would not believe that the stranger approved the name given to him without any second thoughts.

“Someone has called me by a similar name, so I wouldn't mind it.”

Daeyoung finds himself echoing the word ‘someone’ in his head. The bitter yet curious feelings swelled inside him. Daeyoung does not really have the explanation for what he's feeling currently at the moment, though he wishes the ‘someone’ is him.

“-let me send you home.” Daeyoung voiced out instead. “It's getting hotter so I don't think it would be a good idea to walk in this weather.”

“It's fine,” Riku refused. He then slipped off the yellow slippers and returned it back to its owner.

“B-but, your feet.” Daeyoung panicked, as he remembered Riku had hurt his feet while walking barefoot.

“Later. I can't walk fast with this pair of legs. Goodbye, and don't forget tonight is going to rain” by then, Daeyoung slowly watched the figure walk away and disappear from his view.

He then biked his way home with a slight disappointment. Though, he noted that he should buy another pair of similar slippers if he has a chance to meet with the mysterious stranger or the guy he just named as Riku.

That night, as predicted, the rain poured heavily and Koo came to visit him. They slept through the night, with the sound of heavy rain becoming a white noise for both human and the cat, and for the first time in a while, Daeyoung slept peacefully accompanied by the black cat on his side.

🐈‍⬛

Daeyoung wouldn't know when he will have another chance to meet Riku the stranger again. Even so, Daeyoung has been paying more attention to the change of weather as he would watch the morning news everyday for the weather forecast. If it's sunny, Daeyoung fetches his bicycle and rides to the beach though luck is not always on his side. When it's raining, Daeyoung spends most of his time at home with Koo instead, who has been lately regularly visiting him.

The black cat purrs on Daeyoung's laps while he slowly petting the soft fur ball soundly sleeping. The regular presence of Koo avoids Daeyoung from the loneliness he felt. The warmth and the purring surges through his veins; enjoying each other's company.

On a Sunday morning, Daeyoung wakes up with sunny weather once again. This time, he didn't need the weather forecast to tell him whether it's good to go outside or he should stay. Koo is nowhere to be found in the apartment which Daeyoung believes the cat may be roaming around the neighbourhood as the weather calmed after many days of being gloomy.

Humming to a song he heard on radio earlier, Daeyoung lets himself be swayed by the summer breeze, riding his old bicycle. Within the basket, there's a newly bought pair of pink slippers that he promised himself to give to Riku later.

Fortunately, luck is on his side. Daeyoung can't help but to form a smile so wide his snaggletooth showed up. Even at the far, there's lying Riku on the shore sleeping peacefully while the slow and relaxing ocean breeze gently caresses Riku and tousles his dark, soft hair.

With careful steps, Daeyoung approached Riku. Careful not to awake the sleeping boy, he settled down beside Riku and joined the latter by lying on the ground as well. He lays on the sand, without caring how the dirt will stain on his clothes and hair. Daeyoung then closed his eyes- basking in the warmth of the sun rays kissing his skin, while letting the gentle breeze sweep over him.

Both of them ended up sleeping soundly for 30 minutes; peaceful from being in each other's presence.

A few minutes later, Daeyoung awakens, sensing a shadow falling across his face. The sunny warmth that had rested on his skin is now replaced by a shadow. Peeking open one eye, Daeyoung finds Riku staring down at him. Their faces are close, and Daeyoung feels his heart flutter as he meets Riku's dark eyes, which reflect his own.

They remain in silence, the only sound being the ocean waves crashing against the shore. It's the first time they've looked into each other's eyes, and without a word, they connect through the silent language of their hearts.

But then, in a swift manner, Riku closes their distance and kisses Daeyoung on the lips. The moment their lips touched; an awkward and innocent kiss sending Daeyoung a subtle static leaving him speechless and a fluttering heart.

Riku's soft lips are moist and warm and it feels nice against his. Feeling the kiss, Daeyoung has a sudden urge to pull the smaller figure close to him and deepen the kiss.

However, the chance disappears as Riku pulls away quickly. Staring at Daeyoung with wide shocked eyes as if some entity possessed him, Riku quickly stood on his two feet, almost stumbled down.

With the sudden shift of atmosphere, Daeyoung stares blankly while Riku walks away with quick steps. Processing the situation, Daeyoung realised that Riku might have felt embarrassed after the sudden act of kiss, he activated his athletic side and chased the figure who gradually almost disappeared from his view.

Thanks to his long legs, Daeyoung reached Riku's wrist to stop the latter from walking. “Wait, don't go yet” He pleaded. Daeyoung gently turned Riku's stiff body around, facing him and Daeyoung couldn't help but smile as the latter wouldn't dare to look him in the eye- contrast to the moment earlier, while a subtle blush rose on his cheeks.

“You still got the sand all over your body. Let me help you,” Daeyoung said in a small voice, close to Riku's ear as if he's afraid someone will eavesdrop on them. Though, it was just his act to comfort the latter which might have unintentionally sent Riku into a blushing mess. Daeyoung brushes the sand off from the back of Riku's shirt and also the back of his hair. Upon the touch on the head, a familiar feeling suddenly gushed over Daeyoung. His touch on Riku's soft hair immediately reminds him of Koo.

“It's impossible-” Daeyoung shakes his head, freeing himself from the thought that almost convinced him Riku and Koo may be the same person. Humans are humans and cats are cats. Such a thing that mixes between two different entities wouldn't exist in this world.

Yet, the imagery of Riku as a black cat lingers in Daeyoung's mind as he thinks that Riku would be such a pretty cat. His mannerisms and looks radiate the same energy as the creature.

Clearing his throat, Daeyoung went back to reality to deal with the situation the universe put him in. “L-lunch. Would you like to go for lunch again?” He suggested.

Riku's gaze remains fixated on his bare feet buried in the sand. He reaches out his right hand and gently grasps the hem of Daeyoung's white t-shirt. In a soft whisper, he utters, "hurt.”

The response may have turned the conversation from its original intention, but Daeyoung understands it as a secret code shared between them.

“You hurt your feet again…” Daeyoung mumbled and quickly ran into his forgotten bicycle. Without another word coming from both of them, Daeyoung assists Riku slip on the pink slippers he just purchased. Now comfortably adorned in his new footwear, Riku admires the matching set with Daeyoung.

"Let's head to my place for some grilled meat, your favourite," Daeyoung suggests. "Ah! Of course, if you don't mind visiting my humble apartment." Riku's ears perk up at the mention of meat, clearly delighted by the menu suggestion.

Daeyoung happily pedals his bicycle, with Riku sitting on the uncomfortable back seat, timidly gripping Daeyoung's waist. Upon reached to the apartment, whilst Daeyoung's unlocked the key of his door, Riku looking out through the balcony from the second floor.

“It's so high up,” He murmured, catching Daeyoung's attention and joined Riku on the balcony. “It is actually so high… but I know someone who can climb up here through the neighbour's roof and then land here.”

Daeyoung swung the door open wide, inviting Riku into the house. "Oh, by the way, it's a cat, not a human," he clarified, chuckling at the potential misunderstanding. However, Riku's face remained serious as he bluntly replied, "It's hard to climb with these legs, for sure," catching Daeyoung off guard.

"... I guess they are hard," Daeyoung laughed softly, feeling a bit confused by Riku's response.

As soon as they entered the house, Daeyoung offers Riku to make the house like his and sit wherever he feels like to. Without hesitation, Riku sits on the sofa; his slim figure makes him look small and the oversized shirt looks so cosy on him.

“That's adorable,” Daeyoung kept the thought to himself.

While Riku is waiting- watching the random show on television, Daeyoung quickly preps for lunch as promised. From the fridge, he takes out the fresh meat he bought from the supermarket yesterday and begins to grill them in the pan. He seasoned it with salt and pepper and as the meats are half-cooked, Daeyoung cut them into smaller pieces.

As the meat sizzles and the delicious aroma fills the apartment, Daeyoung busies himself cooking a vegetable side dish. He chops bell peppers, onions, cabbages, and broccoli, adding shrimps for the extra protein. Meanwhile, a pot of kimchi stew simmers on the stove, promising a refreshing finish to the meal.

An hour passes as Daeyoung works his culinary magic. With the dishes cooked and the table set for lunch, he notices Riku has been sleeping soundly on the sofa. His body curled in, sleeping on the left side while hugging both of his knees.

With careful and quiet steps, Daeyoung approached the sleeping Riku. Beside the sofa, he crouched down so that his face is on the eye level with the latter. Being up close to each other, Daeyoung stares in a mesmerising manner. Riku's slow breathing resonates through him, as Daeyoung wishes he could hold the latter within his arms. Though, he represses himself from doing so and sits comfortably instead of crouching.

There's a hundred questions in Daeyoung's head that he has been dying to ask Riku but somehow, those words never come out and he lets the universe answer him when the right time comes. In the meantime, Daeyoung takes the moment to appreciate the beauty of the stranger he mysteriously drowned in.

Hard to believe, the stranger he once didn't even know the name of (he gave it instead), whom he had waited for so long, always ending up disappointed, is now sleeping soundly on the sofa inside his apartment. The workings of the universe are full of mystery. One moment you catch a glimpse of a stranger lying on the beach, and the next they're peacefully asleep in your home.

Daeyoung continues to stare at Riku with a fond, soft expression on his face. This may only be their second meeting, but Daeyoung feels an unspoken connection between them that defies explanation. Watching Riku, Daeyoung instinctively places his hand on Riku's head, gently patting him. To his surprise, Riku leans into the touch, and Daeyoung is taken aback when he hears Riku softly purring. He hadn't imagined that any human could emit such a sound, reminiscent of a contented cat. However, Daeyoung doesn't mind; he lets the soothing sound wash over him, comforting him in ways he never expected.

All of the sudden, Riku flinches, which wakes him up from the sleep and both of them exchanging looks from being startled to getting shy- cast one's mind back to the kiss on the beach earlier. Daeyoung quickly casted his hand away from Riku's soft hair and almost stumbled himself while trying to get up.

“Uh, lunch is ready” He said with a breathy voice as if something was stuck within his throat.

"Meanwhile, Riku silently obeyed Daeyoung's words, following him to the dinner table, though his cheeks were vividly flushed.

Daeyoung fills two bowls of rice and places them on opposite sides of the table, taking a moment to glance at Riku, who waits patiently. Riku's eyes sparkle with anticipation, especially as he gazes at the grilled meat.

"You can start eating," Daeyoung offers, lifting his spoon to take a sip of the warm kimchi stew before picking up some grilled meat with his chopsticks. Riku carefully observes Daeyoung's actions before awkwardly mimicking them, gripping the spoon and sipping the stew just like Daeyoung did. As soon as the stew touches his lips, Riku's dark eyes darken further, the flavour tantalising his taste buds.”

“Why? Is it too salty?” Daeyoung asked anxiously after noticing Riku's furrowed brows.

“Salty?” Riku stammered, getting more confused as he tried to register the salty taste.

“Uhm, like sea water. Those are salty”

“... sea water…” Riku murmured and gradually shook his head as he believed that the stew wasn't as salty as the sea water.

Sighing relief, Daeyoung then suggested, “You should try it with the warm rice. Scoop the rice with your spoon,” he demonstrated whilst Riku attentively followed him. “Put it in your mouth but don't swallow yet! Now, scoop the soup, and eat.” Daeyoung finished demonstrating with a mouth full of rice. “That's the delicious way of eating!” he happily exclaimed. Encouraging Riku to attempt the trick, Daeyoung waits in anticipation.

Following the steps being demonstrated, Riku ate a spoonful of rice and then filled his already full mouth with the stew. Unfortunately, he almost choked on his food which sent Daeyoung into a panic mode and he quickly passed a glass of water to Riku. As Daeyoung gently pats Riku's back, soothing him from his near-choking episode, he can't help but feel a surge of concern wash over him. "Are you alright?" he asks, his voice laced with worry. Riku nods, his eyes wide with embarrassment. "I-I'm fine," he manages to say between coughs.

As the situation has calmed down, Riku lets out a chuckle and then a little laugh which startled Daeyoung beside him. He continues to giggle, hands covering his mouth and body shaking from the laughter. Gradually, from being confused, the laugh begins to influence Daeyoung which makes him laugh along. Through the laughter that brightens his apartment, Daeyoung catches Riku's laughing face. The face that he hadn't seen before. When Riku laughs, his expression transforms, resembling that of a contented cat. His eyes sparkle with cheerfulness, the corners crinkling with joy. His lips curve upwards into a gentle smile, revealing a hint of teeth. And just like a cat's purr, his laughter is soft and melodic, filling the room with a sense of comfort and ease.

Little by little, the laughter subside and their eyes meet again. For a moment, they lost into each other’s stares; connecting through the sound of their heartbeats synchronising. It seems like the universe has given Daeyoung the answer to his questions. Though, he can’t be sure if it’s the right time to hold onto the answer despite the heavy heart surging through his veins. While Daeyoung is lost in thoughts, suddenly a soft pair of lips landed against his- freed him from his deep thoughts. Contrast to the kiss at the beach earlier, Riku is no longer hesitating nor trying to run away. He then smiles; a reassuring smile that is soft and warm which comforts Daeyoung as if he senses the uneasiness in him.

They then finish their lunch together, Daeyoung washing the dirty dishes while Riku sitting on the sofa while watching a random animation played on the television. After Daeyoung finished cleaning the table where they ate together, he joined Riku on the sofa; making himself comfortable with the latter. In comfortable silence, they huddled close to each other while Riku leaned his body on Daeyoung.

As time passes slowly, Daeyoung and Riku find themselves in their own world, the loneliness that has haunted Daeyoung disappearing with Riku's comforting presence beside him. They sleep on the sofa together, with Riku nestled in Daeyoung's arms, their breaths aligned as they drift off into dreams.

Eventually, Daeyoung stirs from his slumber, Riku still peacefully asleep on his chest. Glancing at the clock on the wall, he sees that nearly two hours have passed since they fell asleep, and it was the best nap Daeyoung had ever had. Carefully changing Riku's position, he gently places him on the pillow, lying on the sofa.

Heading to the bathroom, Daeyoung fills the bathtub with warm water, the sound of running water soothing to his ears. While waiting for the tub to fill, he opens the cabinet near the bathroom mirror and unpacks a new toothbrush for Riku to use later. Undressing, Daeyoung carefully tosses his clothes into the basket and then slips into the bathtub. The warm water envelops his body, soothing away the tension as Daeyoung lets out a sigh of relief.

For a while, he lies in the water, eyes closed, allowing himself to relax completely.

“Get out from the water-” a panicked voice alerts Daeyoung to open his eyes and ends up finding Riku standing motionless at the bathroom’s door- he fists tightly on his shirt while looking at Daeyoung with a look of horror in his eyes.

“Riku,” Daeyoung called for the latter, his brows furrowed as noticed the unpleasant look planted from Riku. “Are you alright?”

Without answering, Riku walks into the bathroom with full cautions. Carefully approaching Daeyoung is watching Riku's steps in confusion, he reaches for the latter’s arm resting on the hem of the tub. Attempting to pull Daeyoung out from the water, he warned again, “You'll get drowned- the water is dangerous-”

No matter how much he tries to pull Daeyoung out, the boy is twice his size and Riku slowly runs out of energy as Daeyoung's body is not even slightly budgeted.

“Wait, calm down will you?” Daeyoung reached for Riku's palm, intertwining their hands to calm the latter. With his strength, he pulls Riku into the tub gently- not to trigger Riku any further and at the moment, both of them end up in the tub; facing each other and the panicked Riku has been washed off.

With a small chuckle, Daeyoung reassures Riku who is sitting frozen in the tub. Though, his facial expression shows no sign of distress. “See? It wasn't that bad. You will not get drowned if you're with me,” Daeyoung persuades him.

“Now, let's take off your clothes' ' Riku's innocent eyes reflect on him as Daeyoung helps Riku remove his soaked shirt and shorts- revealing his beautiful tanned and smooth skin. Such a treasure hid underneath the shirts, Daeyoung held the urges to give Riku little kisses on his body to admire him. Together in the cramped bathtub, both of them relax in the water as Riku leaned his whole body against Daeyoung’s bare chest.

They stayed for a while before Daeyoung went out from the tub which Riku quickly reached for his hands; stopping him on his track. The latter did not let out any words but his eyes expressed such a sad lost cat that Daeyoung’s heart melted. With a reassuring smile, Daeyoung slightly bends his body forward Riku and brushes the wet hair off of the latter’s forehead before giving him a little peck.

“I’m not going anywhere- '' He said while fetching a small stool and sitting beside the bathtub. He then gestures to Riku to turn his body around with a bottle of shampoo gripped securely in his hand.

Riku relaxes again as Daeyoung strokes his head with shampoo, the soft purrs flowing through Daeyoung’s ears like a comforting melody. “Will it rain tonight?” he asks in a soft voice meant only for Riku to hear.

Riku shifts his body to face Daeyoung, causing the water to splatter with the sudden movement. He closes his eyes for a moment before shaking his head slowly. “I see…” Daeyoung sighs, a hint of disappointment in his voice. “Even if it’s not raining, will you stay for the night? You can leave when I’m sleeping, but at least let’s fall asleep together like we did before.”

Riku listens to Daeyoung’s desperate plea, his dark eyes reflecting a mix of emotions. Daeyoung searches for a glimmer of hope in Riku's gaze, something to suggest he will stay the night. When Riku remains silent, his eyes filled with sadness, a rush of anxiety washes over Daeyoung. His heart tightens with the fear that today might be the last time they are together, and the right time could slip away. Tears begin to gather in Daeyoung’s eyes, the thought of losing Riku overwhelming him.

Sensing his distress, Riku gently cups Daeyoung’s face with his warm hands, calming him and pushing away the negative thoughts. Riku moves closer, their chests touching and their faces at the same level. With a final, fond look, Riku kisses Daeyoung’s lips, not pulling away, allowing Daeyoung to deepen the kiss. Voluntarily, Riku parts his lips, inviting Daeyoung’s tongue to explore his mouth. Their tongues intertwine, hot and warm, their emotions and minds connected, their bodies heated with intimacy.

They kiss until they are breathless, Daeyoung’s tears mingling with their lips, tasting salty like the sea. In that moment, a rush of memories floods Daeyoung’s mind. He recalls the first time he saw the mysterious figure lying on the beach shore, carefree and oblivious to the world’s burdens. He remembers waiting, yearning to touch and feel the warmth of the stranger. Now, his dream has come true; they are here, connected as one soul.

Parting their lips apart, both of them breathing heavily, panting and catching for air. Resting their forehead against each other, their eyes met and the time stopped. “Don’t go, would you?” Daeyoung’s voice crack, his voice and teary eyes hint a sadness overwhelming him.

“I can’t,” Riku whispers, smiling so gently. His palms remained cupping Daeyoung’s face. “They will find me.”

“But I don’t want you to go-”

“I’m not going  anywhere. I will come back once the right time comes. A stray cat never stays at the same place; if you wait just like you did before, the cat will come back and accept you as its home.” Riku said.

Daeyoung rests his head on Riku’s bare shoulders, inhaling the fresh scent of soap, trying to engrave the memory of Riku's presence into his mind. “I will wait if that’s what you desire from me. I’ll be the home, a safe place for you when you come back to me,” he sobs, his voice filled with emotion. Riku's hands gently caress his back, soothing him with their touch.

Later that night, they sleep together, snuggling close and sharing the warmth that has become so precious to them both. When Daeyoung wakes up the next morning, the room is filled with bright sunlight. As his eyes flutter open, he immediately notices the empty space beside him on the bed. He isn’t surprised to find that Riku has gone. The window is slightly open, allowing a summer breeze to gently stir the curtains. Despite the emptiness, Daeyoung’s heart feels light, filled with hope that one day, he will be the home that Riku, the stray cat, returns to.

After Riku’s disappearance, Daeyoung continued his routine, waiting and hoping for Riku’s return. He pasted missing cat posters as that is the only way he can send Riku his messages, prepared meals for two, and left his window open, allowing the sea breeze to fill his apartment as a constant reminder of Riku.

Seasons passed—summer faded into fall, fall gave way to a cold and harsh winter, and still, Daeyoung clung to the hope that Riku would come back. Despite the loneliness, he never stopped believing that one day, Riku would return to him. The memory of their last moments together, the tenderness of their connection, sustained him through the long, empty days.

One spring morning, as the cherry blossoms began to bloom, Daeyoung was cycling along the beach where he had first met Riku. The familiar sound of waves crashing against the shore brought a sense of peace and a bittersweet reminder of Riku. As he approached the spot where he used to wait, his heart skipped a beat—there, sitting on the sand, was a figure he thought he might never see again.

Riku, with his dark eyes and familiar aura, looked up as Daeyoung approached. The moment their eyes met, it was as if time had stood still. Daeyoung’s heart swelled with joy and relief. He dismounted his bicycle and ran towards Riku, who stood up, his eyes glimmering with the same emotion. Without a word, they embraced, holding each other tightly. The world around them faded, and all that mattered was that they were together again. Daeyoung felt the warmth of Riku’s body, the softness of his hair, and the gentle purring that reminded him of Koo.

“I’m home,” Riku whispered, his voice barely audible but filled with sincerity.

Daeyoung pulled back slightly, looking into Riku’s eyes. “And I’ve been waiting for you,” he replied, his voice choked with emotion.

“I know.”

Just like they used to, they cycled back to Daeyoung’s apartment. This time, Riku didn’t leave when the sun rose. They spent their days together, sharing meals, laughter, and quiet moments of contentment. The empty spaces in Daeyoung’s heart were filled with Riku’s presence, and the loneliness that had once haunted him was replaced by a deep, enduring love.

As they sat on the sofa cuddling together, Daeyoung realised that the universe had a way of bringing people together, even in the most unexpected ways. He had found his home in Riku, and no matter what the future held, they would face it together.

In the end, Daeyoung learned that love transcends time, space, and even the boundaries between humans and cats. Their bond was unbreakable, and as long as they had each other, they could weather any storm. And so, with the gentle ocean breeze and the sound of waves as their backdrop, Daeyoung and Riku embraced their shared future, filled with hope, love, and the promise of many more tomorrows together.
