When Carcharoth came, he came first to Brethil. All fled him and huddled in fear in the sturdiest buildings, hoping that the crazed creature could not get to them.
Not Andreth.
“I am too old to flee again”, she had said.
When he came, she was in her garden. She saw the fangs and the burning light that shone from his throat. And she saw golden fur and familiar eyes, and knew her beloved was not dead.
That did not save her.
She lay dying for days.
When the end came, she left together with her grand-nephew and her beloved.
