Your Scent is What I Call...

Summary:

For a Scentless, was there truly a place to belong?

Prequel to Hidden Feelings

Notes:

I'm cooking something over here, I don't know if it'll be good, but it's something. I immediately thought of the plot right after finishing the other one shot and boy, this was SUPPOSED to be a one shot but it got too long so I had to split it and now, here we are.

Had to wait for 2.2 patch to end to get more ideas, and more canon lore and locations so I had to hold writing some parts for a while and wow they definitely DID give me ideas. I'm satisfied with 2.2 AND BEST THING YET, I GOT ROBIN.

For those who read the one shot, you can totally just skip this chapter, I added minor stuff in it, but about 90 percent is literally the intro to the og one shot with some stuff added in. Totally fine to skip, the next chapter is pretty much done, just need a bit of revising.

Okay with that said, the story.

Chapter 1: …For a person born without a scent, they did not belong…

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

In the universe, every person was born with a dynamic and distinct scent, a unique fragrance that reflected their very essence. This signature varied based on biological factors and personal associations. Some exuded the fragrance of a beloved flower, while others carried the aroma of freshly brewed tea. Though betas also possessed this phenomenon, its significance was not as deeply felt as it was for alphas and omegas.

For alphas and omegas, scent held a profound meaning. It was a tool for communication, connection, and protection. A mother's scent soothed her offspring, while affectionate individuals shared their fragrance with loved ones. Alphas used their scent to deter threats, while omegas employed theirs to bring peace and calmness.

Certain scents held a special significance, like those of rare fauna or antiquated items. Those who possessed them were sometimes regarded highly like a rare gem amidst a sea of stones. Their unique fragrance became a symbol of distinction, marking them as exceptional among their peers . But regardless of rarity, each person's scent was inherently unique, distinguishing them from others. And there was also another reason why scents were regarded as special.

In a way, the scent a person possessed also served as a telltale sign of who their true mate was.

True mates possessed a distinct scent that resonated deeply with each other. Only one’s true mate could discern the distinct aroma from them, and the reverse was also true. They could recognize this scent, instantly calming them in each other's presence, evoking feelings of gentleness and satisfaction that could only come from their one and only.

It was a connection that went beyond words, instilling tranquility and contentment when they were together. Finding one’s true mate was considered a romantic ideal, though not everyone was fortunate enough to experience it. Some could find their other half quickly, and others would never be able to find theirs. Yet, even without a true mate, individuals found solace in the scents of their partners, cherishing the bond they already shared.

But…

What happened when someone was born without a scent?

…For a person born without a scent, they did not belong…

The concept of scent was revered and cherished and held sway over emotions and social interactions, the scentless were deemed incomplete, their lack of fragrance seen as a mark of inadequacy or defect. They were ostracized and stigmatized, relegated to the fringes of society where their absence of scent serves as a constant source of shame and humiliation. Despite their best efforts to mask their scentlessness, they remain perpetually on the periphery, denied the opportunity to truly create lasting bonds with others.

For the scentless, life took on a different hue—one tinged with isolation and melancholy. Deprived of this fundamental aspect of identity, they navigated a world where scent serves as a constant reminder of their differences. While others reveled in the comfort of their fragrance, the scentless were left to grapple with their invisibility, their presence often overlooked and their voices unheard. Oftentimes, their very presence evoked a sense of unease and fear, for they stood as enigmatic figures in a society that thrived on the language of scent. People didn’t truly know how they felt, for they were a mystery, their emotions hidden behind a veil of anonymity. This lack of understanding bred suspicion and mistrust, leading many to view them with apprehension and even hostility.

And that was why a Scentless was feared.

There was one girl, a young girl who only wanted a place to belong, but fate was unkind to her, and made her live like this her entire life.

Her name was Firefly.

She was a Scentless.

And that was why Firefly was all alone.

The neon lights of the bustling metropolis reflected off the sleek surfaces of towering skyscrapers, casting an ethereal glow over Golden Hour. Among the crowds of people was a young woman with long silver-blonde hair and eyes colored like the galaxy sky, moving with purpose, excitement, and urgency.

Her name was Firefly.

And she was almost late for Robin’s most awaited concert!

With a quick glance at the time, Firefly realized she was running out of it. She hurried to the venue and reached the reception entrance, her breath coming in short gasps as she presented her ticket to the checker. With a swift nod, she was ushered inside, the sounds of the bustling city fading into the background as she entered the concert hall.

Inside, the atmosphere was astounding. The air hummed with excitement as fans of all types be it alphas, betas, and omegas, chatted eagerly amongst themselves, their voices blending into a cacophony of anticipation to see the singer. It was amazing to think about, how Robin herself was an omega, which a lot of people still unfortunately thought of as the lowest class, but the singer was able to become successful despite society going against her nature.

Firefly made her way to her seat, her heart pounding with nervous energy. She couldn't help but feel a pang of regret for waking up so late and taking so long to pick out a gift for her beloved idol. Robin rarely came back to Penacony, after all, so Firefly had seized the opportunity to purchase a ticket as soon as the concert was announced. Sacrificing her indulgence in Oak Cake Rolls for a whole month just to afford it seemed like a small price to pay. Still, she couldn't believe she was finally here—at a concert for her favorite singer, no less.

Firefly quickly tucked her ticket into one of her pockets, accidentally brushing against a certain item hidden within. Her fingers brushed against the delicate packaging of the gift she had carefully chosen for Robin. She smiled, she’ll leave it at the gift table after the concert.

Soon enough, the lights dimmed down and the crowd fell silent, Firefly focused her attention on the glowing stage in front of her, excitement reaching a fever pitch. She could feel her pulse quickening with each passing moment, her anticipation mounting with every second that ticked by. Suddenly, the stage erupted in a dazzling display of lights and sound, and there she was—Robin, standing tall and radiant in the spotlight.

Firefly's breath caught in her throat as she took in the sight before her. Robin was even more stunning in person, her presence commanding the attention of everyone in the room. She walked with grace down the glass steps like royalty, stopping in the middle, only to fall down like a drop of water into an ocean.

Everybody gasped in surprise but Robin didn’t look perturbed. Robin fell until she unfurled her wings at the last possible moment, soaring gracefully into the air as if the wind was carrying her, to ascend into the bright stage lights as she started singing.

Firefly watched in complete awe. Was this how it felt like to witness an angel? The way Robin moved, so effortlessly, so gracefully—it was as if she were a creature born of starlight and dreams, dancing and singing across the stage with an otherworldly grace.

Robin was… beautiful.

In that moment, surrounded by the pulsating energy of the crowd and the hypnotic rhythm of the music, Firefly felt happy. She couldn't tear her eyes away from Robin, her heart soaring with each note that filled the air. This was a feeling she would never forget—a feeling of pure, unadulterated bliss that she would carry with her always.

All too soon, time felt like it flew by too fast as the final notes of Robin's performance faded into the air and the singer herself creating the grandest of exits Firefly had ever seen with her eyes. There was a deep sense of awe and admiration for the talented singer she had just witnessed, mingled with melancholy as she realized the concert had ended. Firefly couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude for being part of such a magical experience, surrounded by fellow fans who shared her passion for Robin's music.

Firefly smiled softly to herself, lingering in her seat. As someone who was a scentless, ven if it was just for a short time, she was glad she was able to be part of Robin’s world.

As the concertgoers prepared to leave, the lights suddenly dimmed once again, casting an eerie glow over the stage. The crowd murmured in confusion as the atmosphere shifted, and then, like a beacon in the darkness, a large lucky number 7 slot machine appeared, illuminating the center of the stage in all its glory. A voice, reminiscent of Clockie's cheerful tone, filled the air.

“Tick-tock! Don’t go yet! Just when you thought the show was over, we've got a little something extra planned! We're about to roll the dice on some luck, and one of you lucky ticket holders is in for a special treat!”

The crowd erupted into cheers, excited for the sudden announcement.

“On the count of three, partner!” Clockie cheered.

“Three, two, one… let's roll!”

The digital panel began to spin, and everybody including Firefly held their breaths, eyes glued to the numbers flashing before them. The panel was spinning in rapid succession, each one of the digits slowing to an anticipating halt. Each new number revealed created moans of both happiness and sadness. But all Firefly could feel at that moment was a mind-numbing curiosity. And then, in a moment that felt like an eternity, the machine came to a stop, revealing the final number of the glowing digits.

The numbers on Firefly’s own ticket started faintly glowing, her eyes quickly catching the subtle illumination. She glanced around nervously, instinctively shielding her ticket from prying eyes. She could also hear loud sounds of people groaning in disappointment but all she could focus on was her unexpected stroke of luck.

“Congratulations to the lucky winner!” Clockie's voice boomed with excitement, his happy tone echoing through the auditorium followed by animated applause from the audience. “To the winner, please make your way to the main reception now to claim your prize! Don't miss this chance of a lifetime!”

“Have a great night everybody and stay safe!” And with that, Clockie’s voice disappeared and the main general lights of the venue turned back on.

Firefly figured she should follow Clockie’s instructions and made her way through the crowd. Firefly approached the main lobby, her heart racing and her mind still reeling with questions about her unexpected win. She spotted a man near the reception area, his demeanor exuding an air of authority. He seemed to be a fellow Halovian, just like Robin, owning his own set of wings near his nape and the large Halo floating above his head. Might he be related to Robin perhaps?

Firefly hesitated for a moment before cautiously making her way towards him, sensing a strong sandalwood scent being emitted by him.

“Um, excuse me, are you... waiting for someone?” Firefly asked tentatively, her voice tinged with uncertainty.

The man offered her a warm smile and nodded. “Yes, indeed. You must be the lucky winner.”

Firefly's eyes widened in surprise, and she glanced around, puzzled, before tentatively pointing to herself. “Oh, how did you tell?”

She saw him nod, gesturing to her hand, “I can see the glowing ticket in your hand. My name is Sunday, pleased to meet you.”

Taking a deep breath to steady her nerves, Firefly introduced herself, “I'm Firefly. Umm, nice to meet you too.”

Sunday chuckled and beckoned for her to follow him. “Well then, Miss Firefly, your prize awaits. Follow me, please.”

Soon they made their way towards the backstage area where the concert staff were busy tidying up, Firefly's apprehension grew. Sunday glanced back as if sensing her uncertainty, and gave her a reassuring smile.

“Don't worry, I assure you this is quite special.” He assured her cryptically.

Curiosity piqued, Firefly couldn't help but inquire, “What kind of prize is this, exactly?”

Sunday only let out a small smile, “You'll see soon enough.”

Firefly was skeptical of the response, but she didn’t ask further and simply followed Sunday, her mind filled with anticipation of what awaited her.

Sunday led her through the backstage corridors, past crew members carrying equipment and performers chatting animatedly. Firefly couldn't shake off the nervous fluttering in her stomach.

They continued to walk through the empty corridor, Firefly's steps growing slower and more hesitant with each passing moment. She couldn't ignore the dwindling number of people around them and the aura of secrecy that surrounded their journey. A growing inkling crept into her mind about where they were headed and what her “prize” might entail.

Sunday stopped just a few steps before the very end of the hallway, gesturing to a door adorned with large lettering spelling out Robin’s name. Firefly's suspicions were confirmed, and her steps halted as uncertainty gnawed at her.

Sunday seemed to sense her sudden apprehension and cast a concerned glance her way.

“Is everything alright, Miss Firefly?” He inquired gently, his voice filled with genuine concern.

Firefly looked to the ground, her voice trembling slightly, “I... I may not look like it, but I'm an alpha.” The words felt heavy on her tongue. She couldn't help but feel a pang of doubt creeping into her heart. Her, an alpha alone with an omega? That was just something that begged for trouble.

But more than that, she was an alpha with no scent—a stigma for ridicule, a broken person, a person who didn’t belong.

Though she didn’t say those truths out loud.

She looked up straight into Sunday’s eyes with serious uncertainty, “Is it truly alright for me to be alone with Miss Robin?”

She could see Sunday's eyes widen before they softened with understanding, before finally offering her a reassuring smile. “The lucky 7 slot machine is more than just a game of chance,” He explained gently. “It has a way of choosing those who are truly worthy. If you were selected, it means that you possess qualities that Robin would value.”

Firefly’s own eyes widened from this information. It was amazing to think that the Lucky 7 machine possessed more power than it looked. But despite his words of reassurance, Firefly couldn't shake off the lingering sense of unease that gnawed at her insides. What qualities? She had spent so much of her life feeling inadequate, broken, and unworthy. The idea that she possessed qualities valued by someone like Robin seemed almost ludicrous.

And besides that, the idea of being alone with her idol, especially as an alpha, a broken one, filled her with fear and trepidation. Staying in one room would only mean that her being scentless, a fact she had carefully hidden, would be exposed. The last thing she wanted was for Robin to look at her in disgust and rejection. No amount of perfume would be enough to conceal the absence of her scent.

Nevertheless, she found herself nodding in reluctant acceptance, she didn’t want to raise even more suspicion, especially in front of this dignified man. From the moment she saw him out front, Firefly already sensed the danger lingering beneath his composed demeanor.

Despite the mask of a pleasant fragrance, the underlying notes of the musk beneath the sandalwood hinted at something deeper, a sense of danger veiled by an outward charm. It was a scent that spoke of hidden secrets. Even though he wasn't actively exuding the dangerous scent, Firefly's heightened senses allowed her to perceive the depths of this man and the extent of what he could do. She didn’t know what his relationship with Robin was, but if he found out that the most renowned idol even got near a scentless, there would be dire consequences.

In a way, Firefly was envious of his ability to express emotions through his scent, a skill she had never possessed. A sense of profound loneliness she was used to gnawed at her soul, a reminder of the vast chasm that separated her from those around her. She could only hope that he wouldn’t see right through her facade.

Firefly wanted to laugh, somehow finding herself in an interesting predicament, here she was winning an unprecedented lottery with a seemingly dangerous man being led to Robin’s private chambers. All she had wanted was to go to Robin’s concert and relax.

But then again, this was Penacony, the land of dreams. If there was anything she had learned during her time here, it was that destiny worked in funny ways. With a deep breath, Firefly mustered up a faint smile and continued to follow Sunday down the corridor, her heart pounding with anticipation as they approached the door that would lead her to Robin.

Sunday nodded reassuringly before knocking on the door. He offered a warm smile to Firefly, “I hope you enjoy your time with Robin.”

Before she could reply, he immediately left, leaving Firefly standing alone as the door swung inward.

And then it hit her.

The scent of lavender enveloped Firefly like a gentle embrace, its soothing aroma filling her senses with calming warmth. She felt her eyes close as she inhaled its delicate fragrance, feeling a sense of peace wash over her as if all her worries and anxieties were momentarily lifted away. Lavender, with its sweet yet slightly herbal aroma, whispered of serenity and tranquility, casting a spell of relaxation upon her racing heart.

Firefly opened her eyes, revealing a woman just a bit shorter than her, with long baby blue hair and eyes sparkling like the vast ocean during the tropical summer.

It was Robin.

And she was smiling directly at her.

And she probably witnessed Firefly practically inhale her scent right in front of her.

Firefly's cheeks reddened considerably at being caught. But whether the idol witnessed her inappropriate behavior or not, she didn’t show any signs of discomfort, only radiating warmth and kindness before her. Something that definitely made Firefly’s heart pound uncontrollably.

“Hi there!” Robin greeted cheerfully, her eyes sparkling with curiosity as she took in Firefly's more than obvious nervous demeanor. “You must be the lucky winner! Come on in!”

Firefly's cheeks flushed as she stepped into the dressing room, nervousness enveloping her very being. She couldn't believe she was actually standing in the presence of Robin, her favorite singer and inspiration.

Firefly couldn't help but feel a sense of awe and wonder. This was a moment she had dreamed of for so long, and now it was finally happening. She wanted to make the most of this opportunity to connect with Robin on a personal level, to express her admiration and gratitude for everything she had done. But...

“I... I don't know what to say.”

Robin smiled warmly, “There's no need to be nervous, sweetie,” She reassured her, “Why don't we start by sharing a cup of tea? Tea always helps me when I get nervous.”

With a grateful nod, Firefly settled into the chair opposite Robin, her heart still fluttering. As she watched Robin prepare the tea, she couldn't help but marvel at the surrealness of the moment.

As Robin started preparing tea with practiced ease, Firefly took the opportunity to distract herself from the nervous energy coursing through her veins. Her eyes wandered around the dressing room, taking in every detail to quell the overwhelming sensation of being in such close proximity to her idol.

The room itself was a reflection of Robin's vibrant personality, adorned with decorations and memorabilia from her illustrious career. Posters of past concerts adorned the walls, each one evidence to the adoration she commanded from her fans, each one holding a story and adding to the room's unique charm.

A few moments passed, and Robin turned towards Firefly with a warm smile holding out a delicate porcelain cup filled with fragrant tea. “Here you go.” She said gently, her voice carrying a soothing tone that eased Firefly's nerves.

Firefly accepted the cup gratefully, her fingers brushing against Robin's briefly as she took hold of it. The contact sent a shiver down her spine, and she couldn't help but feel a rush of warmth at the simple gesture.

“Thank you.” Firefly murmured as she brought the cup to her lips, taking a tentative sip of the aromatic brew. The taste was exquisite, a delicate blend of floral notes and subtle sweetness that danced across her palate, warming her from the inside out.

As Firefly savored the tea, she briefly glanced over at Robin, who had settled herself into the chair beside her with graceful ease. The idol's presence was calming, her demeanor patient and understanding as she waited for Firefly to gather her thoughts.

For a moment, Firefly simply sat in silence, content to bask in the quiet comfort of Robin's company. Despite the weight of her own insecurities and fears, she couldn't help but feel a sense of peace wash over her in the presence of someone who radiated such genuine warmth and kindness. However, with her mind clear, a new dilemma emerged. She couldn't shake the feeling of inadequacy that gnawed at her from within. Here she was, in the presence of someone she admired so deeply, and yet she couldn't find the words to express her gratitude or articulate the whirlwind of emotions that churned in her chest.

Robin was incredibly patient, and that in itself intensified Firefly’s internal struggle.

Firefly racked her mind with things she could say. She considered talking about the concert, about how incredible Robin's performance had been, but she knew that would be too obvious. She wanted to say something meaningful, something that would make Robin see her as more than just another fan.

But above all else, there was one thing that she wanted to thank Robin for. One thing that had touched her soul and changed her life in ways she couldn't even begin to explain.

One of the reasons why she still held hope in her heart.

“Miss Robin,” Firefly began, her voice trembling with emotion, interrupting Robin’s sip from her tea, “I... I just wanted to say thank you. Your music... it saved me.”

She saw Robin's eyes widen in surprise, her expression softening with genuine warmth, she put her cup down to fold her hands together, listening more intently at Firefly. “Saved you?” She echoed, tilting her head slightly as her voice tinged with curiosity.

Firefly couldn't bring herself to reveal the true extent of her struggles, the darkness, the loneliness that had threatened to consume her. It was a burden she carried alone, one she couldn't bear to burden Robin with. But as she glanced up and met Robin's compassionate gaze, Firefly felt she could at least share her true feelings on how Robin changed her life.

Firefly nodded, her cheeks flushing with embarrassment. “Yes,” She admitted, her gaze fixed on her trembling hands. “I... I was going through a really tough time, and... and your music was the only thing that got me through it. Your voice, your lyrics... they spoke to me in a way that nothing else ever has.”

She could remember the memories clearly. A time during her youth when she thought she was normal. Haunted by memories of isolation and rejection, a Scentless they said. She found out the hard way that she was never normal, the sneering looks and disgusted glances thrown at her serving as constant reminders of her solitary existence in a world that seemed determined to cast her aside.

For a moment, there was silence between them, broken only by the sound of their breathing. Then, slowly, Robin reached out and placed a gentle hand on Firefly's shoulder, her touch warm and reassuring.

“Thank you,” She said softly, her voice sincere. “That means more to me than you'll ever know.”

And in that moment, as Firefly looked into Robin's eyes, she knew that she had made the right choice. That despite her nerves and insecurities, she had found the courage to speak from the heart. And as they sat together, bathed in the soft glow of the dressing room lights, Firefly felt a sense of connection, and a faint… scent that was quite different from earlier. It was gentle, like a whisper on the breeze, a delicate blend of vanilla that enveloped her with a warmth she hadn't felt before.

That was certainly strange.

Wasn’t the lavender scent she smelled earlier Robin's? Or was it merely a fragrance lingering in the dressing room? But as she discretely sniffed at the air, any hint of lavender had completely dissipated, replaced by the sweet, comforting scent of vanilla.

Firefly cast a sidelong glance at Robin, searching for any indication that she too had noticed the shift. But Robin appeared oblivious, her attention focused solely on Firefly, her expression filled with genuine warmth.

Maybe it was just all in her head.

She saw Robin set her teacup down and laced her fingers together, she leaned in with a warm smile, “So how about we get to know each other?”

Firefly slowly nodded, though her gaze subtly lingered on Robin’s captivating eyes. There was something about the surrounding vanilla scent now, a subtle undertone of melancholy that tugged at her heartstrings.

She shook her head from any more lingering thoughts.

It took a while, but Firefly eventually warmed up to Robin’s presence near her, and soon enough they were engaged in conversation, although it was mostly Robin doing most of the talking. But the idol didn’t seem to mind, finding pleasure in sharing even the most mundane of things to her. Firefly’s eyes narrowed in gentle admiration, she could feel her heart threatening to lurch out of her chest, beating just a tad bit louder than she was used to, though she initially ignored them as it was something she had grown accustomed to over the years, a constant reminder of the trauma she had endured.

Yet, at this moment, it felt different. It was as though her heart, so used to racing in fear, now raced with a newfound purpose.

Firefly couldn’t linger on those thoughts for too long as all too soon the dressing room's tranquility was suddenly disrupted by a soft knock at the door, making the two young women pause in their thoughts.

“Miss Robin, it’s time to go.” The person on the other side stated.

Firefly's heart sank, realizing her time together with Robin was over. On the inside, she wanted desperately to extend their meeting, to bask in Robin's presence for just a few moments longer. But she knew her feelings meant nothing. Who was Firefly to make such demands? She was just a fan who won the lottery, nothing more.

But before she could even react, a sudden realization shot through Firefly's mind. How could she forget? Her hand instinctively reached into her pocket, where the delicate packaging lay nestled against her trembling fingers. Due to her winning the lottery, Firefly had forgotten to leave her gift at the designated gift table after the concert.

As the realization dawned on her, Firefly's nerves gave way to determination. Well, this was a better outcome than expected. With a steady hand, she withdrew the package from her pocket, the elegant wrapping catching the soft light of the dressing room. It was now or never.

“Miss Robin,” Firefly began, her voice barely above a whisper, “There's something I wanted to give you.”

She could see Robin's eyes widen in surprise as Firefly extended the package toward her, her expression a mixture of curiosity and intrigue. Robin accepted the gift with a gentle smile, her fingers tracing the delicate contours of the wrapping. Firefly watched anxiously as Robin's gaze shifted from the package to her, a silent question lingering in the air.

With a nod and bated breath, Firefly watched as Robin carefully unwrapped the package, her eyes widening in delight as she beheld the exquisite perfume within. It was Firefly’s personal favorite, something that helped her in concealing her secret.

This simple perfume had been more than just a fragrance to Firefly; it had been a lifeline in her darkest moments, a source of solace and comfort when the world seemed too cruel to bear. It had helped her navigate the challenges of being scentless, allowing her to blend in seamlessly with those around her. Without it, Firefly doubted she would have been able to face each day with the same resilience and determination.

And, it was based on one of her favorite things in the world, which were Oak Cake Rolls. So that made it extra special.

She hoped it would make Robin remember her, but she doubted it would. For someone with millions of fans across the universe, Firefly was just a speck in the vast constellation of admirers. She already accepted that fact.

“It's beautiful, and sweet,” Robin murmured, her voice filled with genuine appreciation. “Thank you so much.”

Firefly's heart swelled at Robin's reaction, her fears and doubts melting away in the warmth of Robin's gratitude. Firefly's cheeks flushed with pleasure at Robin's heartfelt response. The scent of the perfume, sweet and delicate, filled the air between them, adding a layer of intimacy to the moment.

“You're welcome,” Firefly replied, her heart racing in her chest. “I'm glad you like it.”

Sadly the moment ended as another set of knocks interrupted them, making Robin subtly sigh before turning back to Firefly with her lovely smile. “I have to go,” Robin said apologetically, her gaze lingering on Firefly. “But it was truly lovely meeting you. Thank you for the gift and for spending this time with me.”

Firefly quickly nodded and waved her hand, Robin gave her one last smile before leaving with one of the staff, another set of staff gently ushering Firefly out of the dressing room. As she was directed to the other end of the hallway for the exit, Firefly couldn't shake the feeling that she was missing something.

Once again, she halted her steps.

She forgot to give her name to Robin…

Firefly physically deflated as the realization washed over her. How could she have forgotten such a simple yet crucial detail? She stood frozen in the middle of the hallway, her mind racing with thoughts of missed opportunities.

She looked back to see Robin’s retreating form, a strong sense of longing firmly settling in her chest. It was just like with earlier. She experienced multiple things throughout her life. What was this feeling suddenly overwhelming her?

At that moment, amidst the whirlwind of emotions swirling within her, Firefly realized what it was she was feeling.

Could it be love?

Firefly blushed harder at the revelation. The thought both thrilled and terrified her, stirring up a strong mix of emotions.

It took her breath away, filling her with a mixture of exhilaration and trepidation. Love for someone she had admired from afar, whose music had touched her soul and whose presence now filled her with an inexplicable warmth. Meeting her face-to-face only multiplied those existing feelings. Firefly softly smiled to herself.

She wouldn’t mind that, loving Robin in that way.

Despite the circumstance, Firefly couldn't help but feel a flicker of hope ignite within her heart—a hope that perhaps, one day, their paths would cross again. With determination now fueling her steps, Firefly made a silent vow to herself to seize the next opportunity that came her way.

All Firefly had to do was wait.

Chapter Text

Okay, maybe it wasn’t necessarily love. Maybe her body was just exaggerating things. That her heart palpitations and increased blood pressure to her face were due to the excitement of seeing her long-time crush favorite idol face to face and what she was feeling was just the excitement of the moment.

She was definitely not in love, especially with a person she’d only met once.

At best, it was just a celebrity crush. A devoted fan admiring their idol, nothing more than that.

Then how come she’d been thinking about this for weeks now if it was only just a crush?

Firefly realized that maybe she’d been in love with Robin for a while now. But it only truly started to bloom and prosper at their first meeting. And to be quite honest, it made sense.

At first, she was in complete denial. Sure, the rush of meeting Robin in person made her entertain all sorts of notions, even the idea that she was undoubtedly in love with the idol. But after the adrenaline wore off, her mind cleared, leaving only embarrassment lingering in her thoughts at the audacity of entertaining the notion of falling in love at first sight with the idol.

But no… No,  this was not love. Definitely not.

And who was Firefly kidding? ‘Seize the next opportunity that came her way’? Her winning that lottery was a lucky coincidence and there would be no more opportunities of getting any closer to Robin than a hundred meters away stage in a concert venue.

She suddenly heard her stomach make a loud grumble.

Firefly internally sighed, all this thinking made her hungry and she knew the perfect answer to that. It was time to get another one of those Oak Cake Rolls.

Firefly casually made her way through the dimly lit back alley, her thoughts occupied by nothing more than the anticipation of indulging in her favorite dessert at the nearby shop, and Robin, but she was trying hard to focus on the former rather than the latter.

It was a route she knew well, a shortcut she often took to satisfy her sweet tooth. However, her leisurely stroll came to an abrupt halt when a familiar scent drifted to her nostrils. She knew this scent from anywhere, but what accompanied it was sending a jolt of unease down her spine. It was sharp, and painful to inhale, like the acrid tang of burning rubber mixed with the metallic sting of blood. Instinctively, she tensed, her senses on high alert as she followed the scent to its source. The farther she went, the more intense the smell became, each step heightening her anxiety.

The moment she rounded a corner, she found herself face-to-face with a scene straight out of a nightmare: an alpha man looming over a small, heavily cloaked figure, his words dripping with menace. She couldn’t tell what gender the victim was, but from what she was seeing, they were probably an omega.

The attacker's voice dripped with malice as he taunted the cloaked figure. “Your sweet scent is like a beacon, my dear. I can practically taste your fear. But don't worry, I'll make it quick.”

Firefly felt sick to her stomach.

‘So people like this do exist even in Penacony…’ Firefly's blood ran cold at the man's words, her grip tightening as her training kicked in and she prepared to intervene. With silent precision, she moved closer, her presence masked by the darkness.

Firefly's heart pounded in her chest, each beat echoing in her ears as she assessed the situation. The man was unaware of her approach, too focused on his sinister intentions. She took a deep breath, centering herself, and then sprang into action.

In a swift, practiced motion, she closed the distance between them. With a precise strike to the side of the man's head, she targeted a pressure point that would knock him out instantly. Her knuckles connected with his temple, and the man crumpled to the ground, unconscious before he even realized what had happened.

Without wasting a second, Firefly turned her attention to the cloaked figure, who was now trembling in shock. She gently but firmly grasped the person's arm, pulling them to their feet and leading them out of the alley. She could hear the faint sound of the unconscious man's breathing as she guided the figure to safety, her focus solely on getting them away from the danger.

As they finally came to a stop, Firefly leaned against a nearby wall, trying to catch her breath. But as she glanced at the mysterious figure beside her, she noticed them beginning to shed their disguise. With a mixture of curiosity and trepidation, she watched as the layers fell away, revealing none other than Robin herself.

Firefly's eyes widened in disbelief as the truth sank in. "Miss Robin?" She gasped, her voice still panting for breath.

Robin smiled sheepishly, her features illuminated by the dim light of the alley. "Surprise." she said, her tone laced with amusement.

Firefly felt her cheeks flush with astonishment at the unexpected turn of events, but she shook her head from those thoughts and instead tried to assess the situation.

“You're taking this rather calmly.” Firefly remarked, unable to contain her curiosity.

Robin chuckled softly. "I've had my fair share of close calls. I’m… used to it."

Firefly didn’t like what she was hearing, but she only nodded in understanding as a response. She had always imagined Robin's life to be glamorous and carefree, but now she realized that it came with its own set of challenges and dangers.

“I suppose it does.” She murmured, her thoughts drifting to her own solitary existence.

Robin let out a smile that didn’t reach her eyes, but she promptly shook her head, and turned back to face Firefly with her normal smile, “You were incredible back there. You moved so fast I didn’t even sense you.”

Firefly scratched the back of her head, “I… Yeah, I get that a lot.”

Robin nodded enthusiastically, her face turning playful with a glint in her eyes. “Well, you should! You were so cool, like a ranger I see on those TV shows, swooping in to save the day.”

Firefly let out an embarrassed chuckle at the comparison. “I don't know about rangers, but I do what I can.”

Robin smiled warmly, her gaze softening as she looked at Firefly. “Well, whatever you are, I'm grateful. I don't know what would have happened if you hadn't been there.”

Firefly felt a warmth spread through her chest at Robin's words. Despite the danger they had faced, there was something comforting about knowing that she had been able to protect Robin. It was a feeling she wasn't used to, but one she found herself wanting more of.

But who was Firefly to ask more of Robin’s time?

“I uhh… I guess this is where we part ways? It was nice seeing you Miss Robin. Take care.” She bowed in farewell.

“Wait!” Before Firefly could even turn around to leave, Robin reached out and grabbed her hand, her touch sending a shiver down Firefly's spine. She looked up and saw Robin’s determined look, “I was actually hoping we could spend a bit more time together.”

Firefly's heart skipped a beat at the unexpected invitation. “Really?” She asked, unable to hide the surprise in her voice.

Robin nodded, a playful glint in her eyes. “Of course! I mean, as thanks for helping me.”

Firefly hesitated for a moment, contemplating. She noted Robin’s scent, still the same lavender she remembered during their meeting, before turning to Robin. “Um, I was actually planning on going to a dessert shop not too far from here,” she admitted, her cheeks flushing with embarrassment. “It's my favorite place in the city.”

Robin's eyes lit up with delight. "Really? I love desserts. Okay, let’s go."

They set out towards the dessert shop, but Firefly couldn't shake off the nervousness that gripped her. She led the way, but the silence weighed heavily on her, contrasting sharply with Robin's cheerful humming beside her.

“Firefly, right?” Robin's voice cut through the quiet, startling Firefly out of her thoughts.

“Yeah— wait, how did you know my name?” Firefly's heart raced, her mind racing with questions.

Robin giggled, her laughter like tinkling bells in the air. “I realized I wasn't able to get your name when we first met, so I asked my brother, and it was good that he knew.”

“When we first met… Wait, you remember me?”

"Of course I do," Robin replied with a warm smile, her eyes reflecting genuine fondness. “I will never forget someone who was saved by my music.”

Firefly's heart fluttered at the sincerity in Robin's words, a sense of validation washing over her.

‘She remembers me…’

She felt a lump form in her throat, overwhelmed by the depth of emotion that passed between them. "Thank you, Miss Robin." She whispered.

“You don’t have to thank me, besides, I should be thanking you.”

Firefly's response was quiet, almost lost amidst the bustling noise of the street. She still couldn't quite believe what had just happened, how she had managed to save her idol from danger. It felt like a dream, surreal and almost too good to be true.

“If someone is in trouble, I’ll help them no matter what, regardless if they’re my favorite idol or not,” Firefly blurted out suddenly, the words spouting from her lips before she could stop them, but despite that, they contained a fire in them. A fierce determination.

It took Robin a few seconds for Robin to take the words in, she looked amazed at Firefly’s statement and soon her lips curled into a playful smile, “Favorite idol, huh? I’m so flattered that my knight in shining armor thought of me that way.”

Guh–P-please forget that!”

Robin let out a gentle giggle, “I’ll try.”

Firefly let out a breath. She never knew the gentle and demure Robin had such a teasing streak. But she wasn’t complaining, seeing this side of Robin, was oddly satisfying.

Their walk continued in silence as the sweet shop was within their sight, the familiar aroma of freshly baked treats welcoming them as they arrived.

Robin gestured to the familiar building that contained Firefly’s favorite sweet, “Is that the shop you mentioned?”

Firefly looked up and nodded, heart racing with anticipation; this was one of her favorite spots in the city, a place where she could escape from the chaos of the outside world, if only for a moment.

They spotted a free table by the window, and Firefly gestured for Robin to take a seat. Once settled, a waiter arrived and handed them their menus.

“I’ll have one Oak Cake Roll.” Firefly didn’t even need to look at her to know her choice, the waiter simply nodded to jot down the item.

“I’ll have the same.” Robin replied noticing Firefly’s eager response.

As the waiter walked away with their order, Firefly couldn't help but steal glances at Robin. Robin wore a large trench coat that obscured most of her features, her hair tied up and wings shielding her face, concealing any hints of her celebrity status.

She admired how effortlessly Robin blended into the crowd, her disguise cleverly hiding her true identity. “Miss Robin, forgive me for asking. But why are you dressed this way?” Firefly asked, curiosity getting the better of her.

She briefly noticed that the light in Robin’s eyes went dim before returning to their dazzling state, “Oh you know. Paparazzi and all that comes with being an idol.” Robin said, her voice tinged with a hint of weariness. “Sometimes, I just want to live normally without everything watching my every move.”

Firefly furrowed her eyebrows from the answer.

So even Miss Robin wanted some form of escape from the limelight.

Firefly felt a pang of empathy. It wasn’t the same, but she understood the desire to hide from the world, although at the opposite end of the spectrum in her case. She was a Stellaron hunter and a scentless. She was a wanted criminal, and every move she made was done in precision so as not to make her give herself away. It did help being scentless, as she needed nothing to mask her scent but…

Remembering the things she had to go through, it made her sick. She had to live a lonely life, she was alone in most of it, as everyone she knew stayed away from her, and threw insults at her. All she remembered were the spiteful words she kept being subjected to through every single day. She grew up very lonely but at the same time, of being different, it felt like all eyes were on her, as she was feared, waiting for her next move, waiting for her to become dangerous. Waiting for the moment that people like her were expected to break, to confirm the worst assumptions held about them.

“—Firefly?”

Firefly came back to her surroundings, realizing that she was still in the middle of a conversation with Robin. She cleared her throat and acted like there was nothing wrong.

“I apologize, I feel like I’m still a bit shaken up from the encounter from earlier. Do not mind me.”

Robin’s eyes softened with concern, but she didn’t press further.

Firefly nodded slowly, her mind racing. “But I… understand. It must be exhausting, always being in the public eye.” She returned back to the conversation.

Robin sighed, a nostalgic look crossing her face. “It is. But it’s a part of my life now. I just have to find moments like these, where I can be myself.” She smiled softly at Firefly, who found herself mirroring the smile, feeling a strange but welcome sense of connection. “I keep saying this, but I don’t know what I would have done if you hadn’t come along.”

Firefly’s cheeks warmed at the gratitude in Robin’s voice. “I’m glad I was there,” She said quietly. “I would have hated to see you get hurt.”

Robin’s eyes narrowed in gratitude as she reached out to gently touch Firefly’s hand. “You’re very brave, Firefly. It’s quite attractive.”

Firefly almost did a double take, almost pulling her hand away from Robin but something inside her refused to act on it, “Umm, sorry?” Did she hear that right? “Are you talking about me?”

Robin nodded with no hesitation, “Well, who else would it be? I rarely get the chance to see cute girls acting quite dashing and brave saving me from obsessive stalkers. It’s quite exciting.”

Firefly slumped her shoulders in disbelief, “Miss Robin, please tell me that you’re not gonna make stalkers potentially assaulting you a regular occurrence.”

“Well… If I get to see you more in action, why not?” Robin teased.

“Miss Robin…” Firefly sighed exasperatedly.

Robin lightly waved her hand and giggled, “I’m only teasing you, I’m sorry.” Her eyes twinkled with mischief, but there was a genuine warmth in her gaze that made Firefly’s heart flutter.

Despite Firefly’s heart threatening to break out of her chest due to Robin’s teasing, the surrounding was bathed in a comfortable silence with Robin watching the passersby on the streets and Firefly nervously twiddling her thumbs around, looking everywhere except at Robin. Not too soon, their order of Oak Cake Rolls arrived.

Firefly's eyes lit up with uncontainable excitement as the Oak Cake Rolls were placed on their table. Without hesitation, she dove into the delectable dessert, savoring each bite with childlike delight. She couldn't help but close her eyes momentarily, letting the sweet flavor melt in her mouth. The taste was even better than she remembered, a small moan of satisfaction escaping her lips.

Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed Robin watching her. Firefly's cheeks warmed, but she couldn't stop herself from enjoying the treat. She peeked at Robin, catching the mixture of surprise and amusement on her face. Robin's initial astonishment soon softened into a fond smile, and Firefly's heart skipped a beat. Was Robin really finding joy in watching her?

Feeling self-conscious yet unable to curb her enthusiasm, Firefly continued to eat. Robin’s laughter interrupted her binge eating. “You’ve got a little something…” Firefly looked up and saw Robin gesturing to the corner of her own mouth, mirroring Firefly’s pastry crumbs.

Firefly blushed, quickly wiping her mouth. “Th-thanks.” Her heart fluttered, and she couldn’t help but laugh embarrassingly and continued eating but much more slowly.

"You're surprisingly adorable, Firefly," Robin remarked, her tone laced with affection as she rested her cheek on her hand. Firefly's reaction was immediate, nearly choking on her bite as she coughed a few times, trying to regain her composure.

Firefly's cheeks flushed at Robin's words, and she couldn't help but purse her lips in a slight pout. “Me? Adorable?” She retorted, trying to mask her embarrassment. But her attempt at denial was feeble, as Robin continued to look at her with a playful innocence that made it impossible for Firefly to oppose.

“...Thanks.” She glanced away, hoping to hide the deepening blush that painted her cheeks.

Robin leaned back, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. “So, Firefly, tell me more about yourself. What do you do when you’re not saving damsels in distress?”

Firefly internally shuddered at the last statement but she didn’t show it. She gently patted her mouth clean with a napkin of any stray crumbs left, lest she make an embarrassment of herself again. She then coughed into her hand to clear her throat, but it was a ruse to cover her embarrassment, unsure how much to reveal. “I… I mostly keep to myself. I like exploring the city, finding hidden spots. It’s… peaceful.”

Robin nodded, her interest piqued. “Sounds adventurous. Maybe you can show me some of these hidden spots sometime?” Soon she moved to get her fork and took a small piece of the cake roll to start eating her portion.

Firefly silently swallowed, “Y-yeah… sure.”

With the initial embarrassment subsiding, they continued to enjoy their pastries in a calmer atmosphere, Firefly sent a subtle glance in Robin’s direction, seeing the famous idol taking a bite of her favorite sweet. This event was exciting to her if she were honest. Like, when can she watch her favorite idol, enjoying her favorite sweet right in front of her? Two of her favorite things at once, it was a once-in-a-lifetime chance.

After her momentous victory at Robin’s delightful face at eating the sweet, she calmed down and tried to take another bite, but before she could Robin spoke within the tranquil silence.

“It’s interesting, I grew up in Penacony but I never really enjoyed the taste of Oak Cake Rolls until now.” She twirled her fork around, “I wonder why?” There was a glint in Robin’s eyes that Firefly couldn’t decipher.

Hearing those words instantly made Firefly deflate, “O-oh… is that so? What made you change your mind?”

Robin tapped her chin in a teaseful manner, “Hmm, maybe a certain someone gifted me a certain Oak Cake Roll scented perfume and made it easier to like?”

Firefly sighed once again. “...You’re teasing me again, aren’t you Miss Robin…”

Robin giggled, “I’m sorry. You’re just so easy to tease, I couldn’t help myself.” She looked towards her peripheral vision, watching the passing civilians going about their day, oblivious to the fact that the Robin was right under their noses, hidden in plain sight.

“Hmm, it wasn’t that they tasted bad or that I didn’t like the flavor. It was more like… something was missing whenever I tried them, and I guess, my overall opinion was incomplete somehow,” Robin explained, her gaze thoughtful.

And there it was, the scent permeating the air changed, and came in a scent akin to a dense forest filled with mint and spice. It was earthy and sweet, like a Patchouli plant and if Firefly were to put an emotion to the scent, it was sad, but it wasn’t entirely sad, it was melancholic in a sense.

But like always, Firefly placed those thoughts at the back of her head just in time for Robin to look back to face Firefly, “But I’m glad I get to enjoy them with you, I suppose.”

“Y-you do?” Firefly stammered, her cheeks turning a faint shade of pink.

“I do. It definitely makes me want to hang out with you again.” Robin replied with a soft smile.

“I— What!?” Firefly's eyes widened in disbelief, her heart racing at Robin's words.

Robin giggled once against Firefly’s reaction and subsequent panic, “Oh dear Firefly, you may not realize it, but your presence is pleasant to be with. Might I even say you were quite different from when we first met and it makes me genuinely interested to get to know you more.”

Oh. Oh no. Firefly was overwhelmed with emotions—elation, happiness, and a touch of disbelief. She couldn’t handle all of these positive feelings at once, especially because it was Robin who was saying all this.

Firefly shook her head and stood up, “No, no, you can’t possibly mean that, I’m uninteresting and you’re gonna get bored with me in no time.”

“Well…” Robin tapped her chin in thought, then her smile widened as she turned her gaze toward Firefly, punctuating her words with a playful wink. “I’m entitled to my own opinions, and right now, I decree that you’re fascinating and delightful company.”

“But Miss Robin—”

Robin quickly stood up and grabbed her hands, leaning in closer, Firefly felt her heart race, her cheeks flushing with a mixture of embarrassment and awe. Robin's eyes, like precious jewels, sparkled with earnestness as she made her request, her lips forming a small pout that only added to her charm. “Please, Firefly? I would really want to get to know you more. Will you give me a chance?” Curse Firefly and her weakness to Robin’s puppy dog eyes. Why did she have to be so incredibly pretty?

“I…I…” Despite Firefly's initial hesitation, the gentle caresses to her fingers persuaded her to relent, “Fine...” She mumbled, unable to resist Robin's irresistible charm.

Before Robin could revel in her victory, a loud vibrating sound interrupted them, pulling their attention away. Robin retrieved her phone from her coat pocket, a sigh escaping her lips as she read the message.

“It’s time for me to go,” She announced regretfully, a hint of disappointment in her voice.

Firefly herself couldn't hide her own disappointment at the sudden end of their time together. “Oh…”

“Well, let’s exchange numbers so we can stay in touch. Here, lend me your phone.” Robin suggested, holding out her hand.

Internally panicking, Firefly hesitated, realizing that all her contacts, including those related to her secret identity, were stored there. “Oh, I’ll just put mine in your phone, Miss Robin. I’m very shy to initiate conversations.”

“Okay, that works too.” Robin agreed, handing her phone to Firefly. As Firefly entered her contact information, her hands shook with nervous energy, the gravity of the situation sinking in. Well, who could blame her? When had there ever been a chance for a mere fan to hold and input their contact into their favorite idol’s phone? Never.

Firefly was too distracted by her thoughts to notice Robin’s approach until she felt a gentle tap on her shoulder.

“Oh! Before I forget.” Robin tapped her shoulder, “Firefly?”

“Yeah—” Firefly made to turn her head.

Before she could even move, Robin leaned over, cupping Firefly’s face in her hands keeping them still, and planted a kiss on her cheek, lingering for a few seconds. Firefly’s heart fluttered at the unexpected gesture, her cheeks flushing with warmth. Robin chuckled softly, patting Firefly's cheek in a playful manner.

“That was thanks for saving me earlier.”

Firefly remained silent, her eyes still fixed on the phone in her hands, which now felt like a foreign object in her trembling hands. She appeared calm on the surface, but beneath that, she was panicking.

Robin deftly took the phone from Firefly's frozen fingers, saving her contact information before leaving a few coins on the table. “I’ll message you later, Firefly. Take care!” With a wave goodbye, Robin disappeared into the bustling streets, leaving Firefly in a daze.

Firefly stood motionless, still reeling from the encounter. Her mind struggled to catch up with the whirlwind of emotions coursing through her.

Finally, after what felt like hours, did she slowly come back to her senses and moved.

Robin had kissed her. Albeit it was on the cheek. But it was a kiss nonetheless.

Robin actually kissed her.

It took Firefly even longer to calm down, and even then, she struggled to return to a semblance of normalcy. Barely functional, she willed her heart to slow its frantic pace as she sank back into her seat. She sat there, trying to process the whirlwind of emotions that had overtaken her. Her heart continued to pound relentlessly, her head feeling unbearably hot. All she could focus on was the lingering sensation of Robin's soft lips on her cheek and the scent that surrounded her when Robin was near at that moment.

It was orange blossoms, fruity and sweet and refreshing. A blossoming of first love.

Firefly took a deep, deep breath and exhaled.

Okay, she wanted to retract her earlier statement.

Firefly was definitely in love.

Chapter Text

[17:29] Miss Robin: Firefly! Hello there~ Just wanted
to see if I got the right number on my phone.
I should
be thanking you for helping me yesterday.
I can’t imagine
what would have happened if you weren’t there. I had
a great time, hope we
can hangout again! <3

[18:19] Firefly: Good evening Miss Robin, yes this is Firefly.
Thank you once again for this afternoon.
I Hope you have a good night.

[5:09] Miss Robin: Hii Firefly! Apologies for the time of
message! I was given extra tickets to Clock Studios Theme
Park yesterday, and I was wondering if you wanted to go
with me? Let me know what day you’re available if you do. <3

Firefly had been staring at her phone screen for more than an hour now, slumped on the very edge of the couch, still in a predicament on how to respond to the idol’s request. It had actually been one entire day since she had received the message but she could not, for the life of her, think of a good way to respond to this simple message.

On the one hand, she felt elated that Miss Robin found her interesting enough to invite her to another outing. People never really hang out with her, except if it was the Stellaron Hunters. But did it count as hanging out if they were the only people she really spent most of her time with? Maybe, maybe not.

On the other hand, however, who was she , a mere fan, to accept such a proposal? Granted, it was Miss Robin who invited her and not the other way around, wouldn’t it be more rude if she turned down the invitation?

But what if this was all a test to see if Firefly would immediately jump at the opportunity to spend time with the desirable omega? Ah. No, no, this was Miss Robin she was talking about, everything she did came from the genuine goodness of her heart. And besides, she had no idea of Firefly’s newly discovered feelings for her.

Firefly let out a large breath.

Who knew replying to a message from your newfound love was this difficult?

Before Firefly could even let out another sigh of disappointment at her struggle, the phone gripped loosely within her hand was suddenly snatched away from her, catching her off guard. The scent that Firefly caught was faint despite her heightened senses, something very common for Betas, and this one exuded a unique blend of warm sugar cookies mixed with a hint of fresh rain, the familiar scent making her look up at the perpetrator of the action.

“Oh. So this was where your mind’s been all day. You’ve gotten yourself a date ?” It was none other than her best friend—Silver Wolf, who was now currently giving her a smug grin, completely amused at what she discovered at Firefly’s stolen phone.

“Wolfie! Give my phone back!” Firefly groaned as she reached out her arm in an attempt to retrieve her phone, but Silver Wolf, surprisingly quick on her reflexes—for being a couch potato most of the time—managed to dodge Firefly’s arm.

Firefly watched in distress as Silver Wolf scurried away to a safer distance to read the private message better, “No way, is this legit? Miss Robin? Like, the same Miss Robin that you can’t keep your mouth shut from mentioning every day, Miss ‘Prettiest voice in the whole Universe’, Miss ‘Prettiest face in the Universe’, Miss ‘Savior of my broken soul’, That Miss Robin?”

Firefly had to admit, that every line the short gamer uttered was the truth of how she viewed her favorite singer, but she wasn’t about to give the hacker the satisfaction of seeing her fluster, but as of the moment all she could mumble was a soft—

“Y-yes…”

Silver Wolf threw her head back and slapped her knees with her free hand in uncontrolled bouts of laughter. “You actually managed to get her number and score a date with her? I didn’t know you had it in you, Lover girl .”

Firefly’s head perked up at this, preparing herself mentally for the amount of teasing that was about to ensue. She took a deep breath, her mind racing to find the right words to defend herself. Raising three fingers, she directed Silver Wolf’s attention to them, then brought up her other hand, pointing towards the first finger to emphasize her point.

“First of all, circumstances happened that I will refuse to elaborate on, and it all culminated in me giving her my number.” Firefly brought up her first point in confident clarity and was especially not going to mention the subsequent kiss that happened during that whole ordeal. No. Silver Wolf would never get her to live it down if she found out.

Firefly swiftly shook her head from the thought and then pointed to her second finger.

“Second of all, this is not a date. She would have mentioned it in the message—which she did not, by the way. So I would appreciate you trying not to make fun of me for it.”

Silver Wolf simply let out a small shrug of her shoulder. This didn’t seem to deter her one bit, but Firefly would make sure she would as she continued.

“And third of all,” Firefly stated in the most convincing tone she’d ever delivered as she pointed to her third finger, “I am not in love with her.” She ended with a slight huff, with an even stronger conviction to her tone, hoping that stating those three points would convince the short Stellaron Hunter of her obviously platonic feelings for the Halovian idol. She looked up to Silver Wolf to gauge her reaction.

But all she saw was Silver Wolf only raising an eyebrow at her, clearly unconvinced by any of her assertions.

Ehh , I never said anything about you being in love , but whatever you say.” Silver Wolf said, her tone still laced with amusement.

Now that the atmosphere had settled, Silver Wolf rubbed her eyes, wiping away the tears that had welled up due to her laughter. She brought Firefly’s stolen phone up to her face again, squinting at the idol’s text messages. The corners of her mouth curled into a mischievous grin as she scrolled through the conversation.

“I don’t know about you, but this seems like a date to me. Here, it even has heart emojis, see.” Silver Wolf noted, pointing to the screen with a smirk. Firefly’s face light flushed at this. Oh, she was completely aware of that fact. She didn’t spend all day overthinking about what it meant, definitely not. But no, that was just Miss Robin when it came to her fans, just her naturally playful and affectionate self. An aspect of her that Firefly sometimes wished she’d shown less to her, lest she suffer.

“That’s just Miss Robin’s fanservice as one of her fans. Nothing much to it.” Firefly clarified, trying to sound casual but failing miserably.

Silver Wolf raised an eyebrow skeptically, “Uhuh. And does Miss Robin just hand out her phone number to just anyone she meets?”

“Uhh… Maybe? I wouldn’t know, I’m not Miss Robin.” Firefly replied, her voice faltering.

“...Right.”

“Wolfie look,” Firefly began, her voice hesitant as she cleared her throat, “I’ve actually been planning on turning down the offer. I just… haven’t come up with the right words yet.”

Silver Wolf turned back to look at Firefly’s phone with sheer doubt on her face, “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to spend time with your beloved Miss Robin, you know?”

Firefly felt herself swallow thickly, “Yes, I’m aware. But I’ve made my decision, this isn’t a date, and I’m not going. That’s final.”

“Are you sure?” Silver Wolf pressed, raising an eyebrow.

“I’m sure.” No. Firefly definitely wasn’t. At all.

Silver Wolf rubbed her chin in thought, “Hmm… Maybe we need an outsider’s perspective. Lemme ask Kafka.”

Firefly froze at this, her composed stance finally shattering, “W-wait Wolfie— Let’s not get Kafka involved in this—”

“Too late.” Silver Wolf simply shrugged her off and walked away from the panicking Molten Knight in search of the wine-haired Stellaron Hunter. Cupping her free hand around her mouth, she called out to the said woman, “Kafka! Can you read this for me and tell Firefly it’s a date? The idiot in question keeps denying it. Oh, and can you help come up with a reply?”

Firefly immediately went to chase after her.

“Wolfie!”

“Oh my, it seems like our little Firefly has gotten herself a date.” Kafka noted, a teasing smile playing on her lips as she leaned back in her chair, her wine-colored hair cascading over her shoulders. She was busy making coffee when Silver Wolf decided to bother her with this unnecessary hassle. Firefly had hoped that involving Kafka wouldn’t escalate things, yet it clearly amused her.

Firefly’s heart sank. No, this wasn't supposed to happen. “Kafka, not you too!” She groaned, burying her face in her hands. She could feel the heat rising to her cheeks, making her wish she could disappear. Why couldn’t they understand?

The group gathered around their chill break room. The room was filled with the soft hum of electronic equipment and the faint scent of freshly brewed coffee that Kafka had just finished brewing. The warm, ambiance of the room contrasted sharply with the intense discussion unfolding among the Stellaron Hunters. Firefly sat hunched over her now returned phone, a deep glare creasing her brow directed at Silver Wolf, as she struggled with her thoughts.

“Face it, Firefly, it's a date. Even Kafka can see it.” Silver Wolf chimed in, her voice dripping with amusement. She leaned forward in her own chair, her eyes glinting mischievously under her goggles.

“It's not a date! Miss Robin's just being nice. She’s always like this with her fans.” Firefly protested as her cheeks flushed with even more embarrassment. her voice wavering slightly as she tried to maintain her composure. She looked around the room, hoping for some support, but found none. This wasn’t how she wanted things to be, but at the same time, she already expected things to happen in this direction.

Kafka nodded, “I’m sure she is. But giving out her number and inviting you to go to an amusement park? That's not exactly typical fan interaction, is it?” Raising an eyebrow skeptically. Her tone was gentle, yet it cut through Firefly’s defenses like a knife.

“I... I don’t know. Maybe she's just really friendly?” Firefly mumbled, her voice faltering. She stared at the floor, avoiding their piercing gazes. The truth was, she had no idea why Miss Robin had reached out. Did she actually see something in Firefly? But even if that was the case,

“Huh. Friendly or not, this is your chance. Are you really going to turn down a day with Miss Robin?” Silver Wolf asked, leaning forward on her side of the table with a doubtful look.

Firefly felt a pang of doubt at this, “It's not about turning it down. I’m just not sure I’m worthy of accepting.” She admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. She finally felt the weight of her self-doubt pressing down on her.

“And It’s not about being worthy, think about it, Firefly. This is a golden opportunity to know her better. You mentioned before that you’ve always looked up to her, right?” Kafka reminded her, her tone gentle yet firm. She stopped stirring her cup and reached out, placing a comforting hand on Firefly's shoulder.

Firefly briefly looked at the comforting hand before shaking her head to clear her doubts, “I… yeah…” She sighed as her resolve weakened. She couldn’t deny the truth in Kafka’s words. Miss Robin had always been her inspiration, someone she looked up to.

“And besides, you can always leave if it gets too much. We’ll be on standby if you need us.” Silver Wolf reassured her, her eyes twinkling with mischief. She leaned back, crossing her arms behind her head and dangled her legs over.

Firefly shook her head in disbelief, “You’re making this sound like a mission.” But despite this, she couldn’t help but smile a little at their enthusiasm. Silver Wolf always found a way to make her feel better even if she was a menace to her most of the time.

Fufu … In a way, it is. A mission for your happiness.” Kafka said, her smile widening. She gave Firefly a knowing look as she continued to stir her cup of coffee.

“But what if... it’s not a date?” Firefly asked, her voice tinged with doubt. She twisted her fingers nervously, feeling the weight of their expectations.

“Then you've still spent time with someone you admire. No harm in that.” Kafka replied smoothly. Her voice was calm and reassuring, and it did help in the storm of Firefly's emotions.

Silver Wolf hummed in agreement, “Exactly. And who knows, maybe it will turn into something more. You won’t know unless you go. Right, Bladie?” She added, turning to Blade, she tilted her head at him, waiting for his input.

“Hn.” Blade grunted in agreement, his expression unreadable. For a moment, Firefly had completely forgotten he was there in the first place.

“See, even he agrees.” Silver Wolf said with a shrug to her shoulder.

Firefly furrowed her eyebrows, “I guess you’re right... I’m just afraid of making a fool of myself.” She confessed, her shoulders slumping. She looked down at her hands, a mix of fear and excitement slowly enveloping her entire being. Not a lot of people get to experience this opportunity, and especially with Miss Robin of all people.

“Don’t worry too much about it. Everyone has those moments. I’m sure she would like you for who you are, not for being perfect.” Kafka said, her voice warm with reassurance. She gave Firefly an encouraging smile, her eyes full of empathy.

“And if you do mess up, we’ll be here to laugh about it with you later. But you won’t, well, probably.” Silver Wolf teased, giving Firefly a playful nudge, lighten the mood a little bit.

Firefly took a deep breath, a strange feeling of quiet determination enveloping her being, “Alright, fine. I’ll go. But this doesn’t mean I think it’s a date.” She relented, but this time, there was a small smile forming on her lips. She felt a sense of relief, and maybe even a flicker of hope.

Uhuh, we’ll see about that.” Silver Wolf said as her eyes twinkled with mischievous amusement.

Kafka hummed, “You deserve some form of happiness. Go have fun.” She encouraged with her eyes soft with understanding. She squeezed Firefly’s shoulder gently, offering her support.

“Thanks. I’ll do just that.” Firefly stated, feeling just a tad bit less nervous at what she was about to do. Yeah.

Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad.

[19:10] Firefly: Good evening Miss Robin. It would be an
honor to go with you. Saturday works for me. Thanks
for the invitation.

Firefly stood at the entrance of Clock Studios Theme Park, her heart pounding harshly beneath her chest. The vibrant colors, the cheerful music, and the excited chatter of families filled the air, making the whole scene feel surreal especially to her, as someone who’s only used to dark and grim sceneries. She took a deep breath, her heightened senses picking up the various scents of food, the metallic tang of the rides, and the sweet aroma of blooming flowers, mixed with the multiple scents being emitted left and right by people within her vicinity. It was overwhelming but in a strangely comforting way.

Firefly tried to think of a way to pass the time. She saw a small pebble at her feet and started to idly kick it, watching it bounce across the colorful pavement. Her mind wandered into a sense of controlled focus as she continued to nudge the pebble back and forth with the tip of her boot, the repetitive action providing a slight distraction from her current nervous anticipation. She was so absorbed in her thoughts that she almost didn't notice the familiar voice calling out to her.

“Firefly! Hi!”

Firefly looked up and saw Miss Robin waving enthusiastically from a short distance away. The idol's bright smile and sparkling eyes stood out in the vibrant surroundings, making her seem even more radiant. Robin was dressed in an elegantly casual outfit, she wore a sleek black long-sleeve turtleneck paired with a flowing dark brown long skirt and Mary Jane black shoes with white socks. A beret perched on her head and glasses adorned her face, discreetly hiding her identity while adding a touch of elegance to her already captivating presence.

Firefly’s heart picked up the pace, pounding loudly in her chest. A blush crept up her cheeks, and she quickly straightened up, brushing off her clothes and trying to appear composed despite the sudden rush of emotions. She remembered how Kafka had offered to dress her up for the “date” earlier in the day, but Firefly had stubbornly refused, insisting on her usual attire with her regular masking perfume. Now, standing in her standard outfit, she couldn’t help but feel slightly underdressed compared to Robin’s elegant ensemble. She brushed off the thought, focusing instead on the warm, welcoming smile of the idol that continued to plague her mind.

As Robin approached, Firefly caught a scent that seemed to radiate from her–a delicate blend of jasmine, a fragrance that evoked feelings of happiness and excitement if she would describe it herself. But once again, like the other times, she brushed away those thoughts as if they were a figment from her imagination.

“Hello, Miss Robin.” Firefly greeted back, her voice steady but her eyes betraying a hint of the nervous excitement she felt. She gave a small, awkward wave in return, hoping it didn't show how flustered she already was.

The idol stopped walking right in front of her, “I’m glad you accepted my invitation! Have you been waiting long?” Robin asked, her eyes shining with genuine curiosity.

Firefly shook her head with a wave of her hand, “Oh no, not at all. I actually just arrived myself.” She lied smoothly. She had actually been standing here for an hour now, patiently waiting for Robin to arrive while also trying to calm her racing heart and mentally prepare for this outing. But Miss Robin didn’t need to know that. Not at all.

She shook her thoughts away in time to see Robin giggle, “Is that so?” The idol said then proceeded to extend her hand towards Firefly while gesturing towards the main gates of the park. “Well then, shall we?”

Firefly was taken aback as she looked at Robin’s outstretched hand, her mind racing into a whirlwind of thoughts. Could this really be happening? Was she actually going to be holding hands with her idol? She hesitated for a moment, her heart skipping a beat, considering for a moment but she quickly reminded herself.

No. Not a date. This was just Miss Robin being friendly to her fans like always.

Continuing to stare at the open hand, Firefly briefly considered declining the gesture, but with Miss Robin waiting, with her beautiful doe eyes sparkling with anticipation looking at her. Firefly knew for sure that the idol would be extremely disheartened if she chose anything else but to accept. So with a steel resolve, she reached out and took Robin’s hand, immediately feeling the warmth of her touch send a comforting sensation through her.

Firefly looked up in time and could’ve sworn Robin’s face smiled up even more warmly at her but before she could question her own observations, she was immediately pulled towards the park entrance.

The look of Clock Studios Theme Park was a sprawling wonderland of nostalgia and innovation, seamlessly blending the charm of early cartoons with retro-futurism. The entrance, framed by a towering archway with a vintage clock, led into a vibrant boulevard lined with bright buildings adorned with neon signs, where the scent of caramel popcorn, cotton candy, and the signature SoulGlad soda filled the air. A large statue of Clockie was placed in the center of the main entrance, welcoming and bidding farewell to the visitors.

It’s then they started to wander around the bright park.

As Firefly looked around and saw all the bright rides and happy visitors, it’s when she started to realize that Clock Studios felt like a mini Penacony in its own right—colorful, bustling with energy, and full of unexpected corners that begged exploration. Yet, amidst the thrill of the rides and the whimsical atmosphere, her mind couldn't help but drift back to the complexities of her own existence. It wasn't the typical place she would be seen in. Its vibrant colors and lively energy starkly contrasted with her reserved nature and the shadows she preferred to inhabit. Here, amidst the laughter and music, she felt both out of place and oddly entranced, like a moth drawn to a distant, flickering light.

“You’ve been looking away from me for a while now. Is there something the matter? Am I making you uncomfortable?”

Robin’s sudden inquiry jolted Firefly out of her thoughts. She blinked, momentarily taken aback by the concern etched on Robin’s features. Flustered, she struggled to find the right words.

“No!” Firefly responded a little too quickly, noticing Robin’s subtle flinch. “I mean… no, Miss Robin. I’m sorry, I’m just so nervous.”

Robin’s expression softened, a blend of empathy and curiosity shining in her eyes. “Oh, is that so? Then do you mind telling me what’s wrong? I thought we were comfortable enough to talk as friends. What changed?”

Firefly hesitated, uncertain how much to reveal. She couldn’t possibly explain the swirl of emotions inside her—the admiration, the nervousness, and the realization that her feelings for Robin had deepened since their intimate moment in the dressing room.

“It’s just… overwhelming,” Firefly admitted quietly, trying to meet Robin’s gaze with effort. “Being here, with you.”

Robin tilted her head, a faint smile playing on her lips. “I understand. Believe it or not, I get nervous too sometimes, especially when meeting someone new. But at the same time, I love making new friends. So I want you to know, I’m just Robin here, not the idol you see on stage.”

Firefly nodded, her heart fluttering with a mix of gratitude and lingering anxiety. Robin's reassurance soothed the edges of her nervousness. Yet, beneath her appreciation, a sense of shyness persisted, making her acutely aware of her own insecurities. “Thank you, Miss Robin.”

Robin turned to Firefly with a playful glint in her eye. “Come on, let's start with some rides.” She suggested, her voice filled with anticipation. Before Firefly could respond, Robin gently grabbed her hand, pulling her through the bustling crowd towards their first destination.

They approached the entrance of the Quantum Rollercoaster, Robin's eyes sparkling with excitement. “Let's shake off any nerves with this one.” She said with a bright smile.

Firefly, accustomed to the high speeds from piloting her mecha suit, knew it wasn't the ride itself that made her nervous. It was being so close to Robin. As they secured themselves in the coaster, Firefly's heart raced, but not from the impending thrill.

The ride shot forward, twisting and looping through a blur of lights and sounds. Firefly's stomach fluttered, not from the motion but from Robin's laughter beside her. Each twist and turn felt like a dance, the world outside becoming a swirl of colors as they raced along the track. Despite the familiar rush of speed, Firefly felt her nerves tighten, her focus shifting to Robin’s presence and the gentle squeeze of the omega’s hand on top of her own still holding it all this time.

The ride thankfully didn’t take too long and eventually, they finally came to a stop. Robin turned to her with a bright smile. “See? Fun, right?”

Firefly nodded, her own smile shy but genuine. The exhilaration of the ride mixed with her lingering nervousness, creating a whirlwind of emotions making her breathe deeply. “Yeah, it was.” She admitted though she knew the real thrill had come from sharing the experience with Robin.

Robin's eyes sparkled as she laughed. “You're doing great! Ready for the next one?”

Firefly took a deep breath, the anxiety of being close to Robin still simmering beneath the surface, but the warmth of Robin's smile gave her the courage to continue. “Yeah, let's go.” She said, trying to match Robin’s enthusiasm.

Firefly took a deep breath, the anxiety of being close to Robin still simmering beneath the surface. She couldn't quite match Robin's enthusiasm, but the warmth of Robin's smile gave her a bit of courage. “Could we maybe try something a little less intense next?” She asked, her voice wavering slightly.

Robin tilted her head thoughtfully, then nodded with a reassuring smile. “Of course. How about the Starlight Carousel? It's a bit more relaxed.”

Firefly nodded at Robin’s suggestion. They walked together towards the carousel, its ornate horses and soft, twinkling lights creating a more serene atmosphere. As they climbed onto their chosen steeds, Firefly felt a wave of relief. The gentle, rhythmic motion of the carousel was a welcome contrast to the heart-pounding rollercoaster ride from earlier.

Yet, even as they rode the carousel, the proximity to Robin continued to affect her. She could feel the warmth radiating from Robin’s body, smell the faintest hint of her jasmine scent, and hear the soft hum of her laughter. It was all too much and not enough at the same time, an overwhelming mixture of emotions that left her feeling both exhilarated and exhausted.

When the ride finally ended, Firefly felt a wave of relief mixed with fatigue wash over her. She was not just physically tired but emotionally drained from the constant effort to keep her composure around the omega. The fear that her perfume might wear off soon, revealing her true scentless nature, only added to her anxiety.

She saw Robin jump off her horse and looked at Firefly with a gentle smile. “Feeling better?”

Firefly nodded, her anxiety easing somewhat as she jumped off her own ride. “Yeah, much better. Thank you, Miss Robin.”

Robin laughed softly, “Okay, ready for the next adventure?”

Firefly hesitated, feeling a wave of fatigue wash over her. She didn’t want to disappoint Robin, but she knew within herself that she needed a break. She took a deep breath and tried to muster a smile, “Sure, what’s next?”

Robin's keen eyes studied her for a moment as she tilted her head in worry, “Are you sure? You look a bit tired.”

Firefly opened her mouth to protest but then laughed awkwardly, “Maybe just a little. I guess the rides are a bit more tiring than I thought.”

Robin's expression softened with understanding, “Of course. Let’s take a break. How about I get us something to drink? You can sit down and relax for a while.”

Firefly thought about it and nodded gratefully. “That sounds good. Thank you, Miss Robin.”

As Robin walked off to get the drinks, Firefly made her way to the nearby bench and sat down. She took a deep breath, trying to calm her racing thoughts and pounding heart. Being around so many people for a long period of time was exhausting, and the constant worry that her perfume might wear off soon only added to her stress.

From the corner of her eye, she noticed a group of people staring in the direction Robin had gone. She could hear their whispers, murmuring about how they recognized Robin despite her disguise because of her unique and well-known scent.

“Isn't that Miss Robin?" One person whispered. With Firefly’s heightened senses, even the softest of whispers can be heard by her.

“Yeah, I'm pretty sure it is. Her scent is unmistakable.” Another replied. Firefly could already feel herself stiffen at the direction of the conversation.

“Even with the hat and sunglasses, you can tell it's her. She always has that signature scent.” A third added.

The familiar words sent a chill down Firefly’s spine, triggering memories of her own past and the fear of being found out. But she continued listening regardless.

“Remember that event last month? Her scent filled the whole place.” Someone said.

“She's really amazing, but I bet it's tough to go anywhere without being recognized because of it, but that was what made Miss Robin special!” Another voice commented.

“Imagine being scentless. They wouldn't stand a chance in being in the same vicinity as normal people.” Someone else muttered, their tone now tinged with disdain.

And at the mention of that, Firefly's heart sank further. The words hurt way too much, dredging up insecurities she thought she had buried deep within herself. She clasped her hands tightly in her lap, trying to steady herself against the onslaught of memories and fears.

Firefly’s breathing became shallow, her vision narrowing as the whispers grew louder in her mind. The overwhelming fear of being discovered as a scentless washed over her, and she felt herself spiraling into a panic. Her past traumas resurfaced, the memories of being outed and ostracized flooding back with a vengeance.

The voices around her seemed to blend into a cacophony of judgment and pity. She wanted to disappear, to melt into the background and become invisible. The thought of being exposed, of having her secret laid bare for everyone to see, made her feel raw and vulnerable.

Firefly felt the weight of their stares like a physical pressure, each glance a reminder of how fragile her carefully constructed world truly was. She closed her eyes briefly, trying to shut out the whispers and the pitying looks. She couldn’t tell if what she was seeing and feeling was reality or a dream—no, a nightmare.

Just as she felt she was on the verge of breaking down completely, a soothing scent wafted through the air, cutting through her panic like a lifeline. Chamomile, with hints of cedarwood and a touch of vanilla. A comforting scent. She looked up to see Robin approaching, a concerned expression on her face. The scent was Robin’s, changed yet again, but Firefly knew it was still unmistakably hers.

Without a word, Robin extended a hand, offering silent support and understanding. Firefly hesitated only briefly before taking Robin's hand. The simple gesture grounded her, reminding her that she wasn't alone in this moment of fear and uncertainty. Robin's presence was a steady reassurance, a reminder that she was safe here, with someone who cared.

Robin gently led Firefly away from the curious onlookers, guiding her to a quieter, more secluded spot away from the prying eyes and whispered judgments. As they walked, Firefly felt a wave of gratitude wash over her.

The contrast between the harsh whispers of strangers and the gentle touch of Robin's hand felt surreal, like a scene from a story she had read long ago. But the warmth in Robin's eyes, the steadiness of her grip, grounded Firefly in the present moment.

“I'm sorry,” Firefly finally murmured, her voice trembling with residual anxiety. “I didn't mean to cause a scene.”

Robin shook her head gently, a soft smile on her lips, “It's okay, Firefly. It happens. We all have moments when things feel overwhelming.”

Firefly nodded, feeling a lump form in her throat. She had always been afraid of being exposed, of being seen as different. But here, with Robin beside her, she didn't feel judged or misunderstood. She felt accepted for who she was, scars and all. Even if Robin didn’t know any of them.

They sat in companionable silence for a while, the bustling sounds of the amusement park fading into the background. Firefly allowed herself to relax, to let go of the tension that had gripped her moments before. With each passing moment, she felt more at ease, more connected to Robin and to herself.

Eventually, Robin broke the silence with a gentle question. “Do you feel ready to continue? Or would you rather take a break?”

Firefly hesitated, considering Robin's offer. She still felt a bit shaken, but she also didn't want to let her anxieties dictate their day any longer. “I think... I think I'm okay now,” She replied softly. “Thank you once again, Miss Robin.”

Robin returned the smile, her expression gentle and understanding. “No problem, Firefly. Let's take it easy for a bit, then. How about…” She pointed to the large bright wheel. “The Ferris Wheel?”

Firefly gently nodded and let herself be led by Robin once more.

They walked together towards the Ferris wheel, a towering structure that overlooked the bustling park. Firefly found herself drawn to its calm rotation and the view it promised. As they waited in line, Robin turned to her with a thoughtful expression.

“I always liked the Ferris wheel,” Robin mused, her voice carrying a hint of nostalgia. “It's like life, you know? Full of ups and downs, but it always comes full circle in the end.”

Firefly nodded, feeling a sense of resonance with Robin's words. Despite the chaos of the day, the Ferris wheel offered a moment of quiet reflection. As they boarded one of the colorful cabins, Firefly found herself relaxing into the slow ascent.

“I never thought I'd find myself here,” Firefly admitted quietly, glancing at Robin. “Not in a place like this.”

Robin smiled warmly. “Sometimes, unexpected places bring us the most meaningful moments.”

Firefly gazed out at the sprawling fairgrounds below, the lights twinkling against the evening sky. For a brief moment, she felt a sense of peace settle over her. Despite the challenges of the day, being here with Robin felt right.

As the Ferris wheel reached its peak, Firefly took a deep breath, savoring the view and the tranquility of the moment. From high above Clock Studios, the world below seemed to shrink, its complexities and troubles diminishing in the grandeur of the night.

The lights of the park and the city shimmered like jewels beneath a velvet sky, casting a warm, inviting glow that contrasted with the coolness of the stars above. In that serene moment, Firefly felt a profound sense of peace wash over her, a rare feeling that settled deep within her soul.

Robin glanced over at Firefly, her expression soft and thoughtful. “You know,” she began, her voice quiet amidst the faint sounds of laughter and music drifting up from below, “Despite everything, I sometimes wish I could experience life like everyone else does. Without the constant reminders.”

Firefly turned to her, “Reminders?”

Robin nodded, her gaze distant for a moment before returning to meet Firefly's eyes. “My scent,” She explained with a wistful smile. “It's a blessing and a curse. It's what defines me to everyone else, but sometimes I wonder what it would be like to just...”

Firefly listened intently, struck by the vulnerability in Robin's words. She understood all too well the burden of being defined by something beyond one's control. “I can't imagine what that's like,” She admitted softly. “But I do know what it's like to feel different.”

Robin nodded in understanding, a silent acknowledgment passing between them. For a while, they sat in silence, each lost in their own thoughts as the Ferris wheel continued its slow descent.

The Ferris wheel soon slowly descended, Firefly couldn't help but feel a weight lifting off her shoulders with each passing moment. The rhythmic creak of the wheel and the gentle sway of their cabin were oddly comforting, as if time itself had slowed down to allow her a moment of respite.

As they disembarked, Robin gently took Firefly's hand, her touch grounding and reassuring. “Thank you for today,” Robin said, her gaze warm and sincere. “I needed this more than I realized.”

Firefly smiled, feeling a swell of gratitude and relief. “I did too.” She admitted, squeezing Robin's hand gently. All day, Firefly had wrestled with the guilt of enjoying Robin's company too much, of relishing every moment spent beside her as if it were stolen time. Holding hands with Robin felt like a daring act, a breach of some unspoken rule that forbade her from getting too close, too comfortable. Firefly realized that holding Robin's hand was not a transgression—it was a source of strength. Anchoring her in the present moment and dispelling the lingering shadows of fear and doubt.

Together, they walked towards the exit of the park, the evening air cool against their skin. Firefly glanced over at Robin. Despite the challenges they faced individually, she knew that moments like these were rare and precious.

They soon found themselves on the bridge nearby the theme park, the one specifically overlooking the grand theater of Penacony, Firefly paused, her gaze sweeping over the familiar sight.

“Firefly, can you keep a secret?” Robin asked suddenly, pausing right beside her with a tone serious yet tinged with a hint of vulnerability.

Firefly's heart skipped a beat at the unexpected question. “Sure... Miss Robin.” She replied, her curiosity piqued at what secret Robin possibly kept from the rest of the world.

Robin took a deep breath, the anticipation in the air thick as her eyes searched Firefly's face for a reaction before she let out her own somber smile, “The truth is,” She began, her voice soft yet steady.

“I can't detect scents.”
