Chapter Text
Chapter summary
Kaeya sat on his stool at angel’s share talking to some random drunkard, it’d had been a good day, he’d seen klee and albedo today and she’s had given him a small flower- it was the colour of his eye both he and albedo thought it was sweet that she thought of Kaeya the moment she saw it.
When she gave it to him she looked so proud of herself, which made Kaeya’s heart melt.
And when he’d gotten to angel’s share Diluc didn’t look like Kaeya was horribly bothering him with his presents as he normally does, so that just made the day better than good.
Which is why it sucked when one of the ‘drunkards’ sitting next to him jumped at him starting to yell about ‘how they would all know now, his secret and how he was a sinner and needed to-’
He blacked out.
-
When Diluc see’s Kaeya walking into his tavern he starts make his drink because it’s not like he’d ever order anything but- “One death in the afternoon, please’’ Kaeya yells as he sits down and start talking with the poor drunkard sitting next to him.
Diluc places the drink in front of Kaeya and as he sets it down Kaeya look’s momentarily shocked.
‘’My, my if i didn’t know any better i’d say you had my drink ready for me before i even order it master diluc’’ he’d said with a twinkle in his eye.
Diluc rolled his eyes “ya, well if you’d ever order anything other then that i probably wouldn't have, you should try something different for once’’
‘’Nope’’ he said, popping his ‘p’. “i quite like having my drink’s all ready for me to have whenever i please, it’s like i'm royalty’’
Diluc grunted in response, turning to serve a different customer, but stopped when he heard someone screaming about ‘secret’ and ‘sinner’.
He was going to tell them to stop screaming when he realized they were yelling at his -brother-, who was swaying slightly and looked as if he was about to pass out.
Pass out he did, well not just him, Diluc watched in shock as both Kaeya and the man fell to the floor.
He and Charels ran over to them hoping they were okay but as they checked their pulses Kaeya started to glow.. GLOW. why the fuck was his -brother- glowing and, what did this guy do and was he okay and, an- “ He’s dead” Charels said looking at him wondering what in the world just happened.
“ EVERYONE OUT” he yelled.
The tavern was empty in a matter of minutes.
Diluc signed a breath of relief when he Kaeya stopped glowing, though it was not comforting how shallow his pulse was, even though he and Kaeya were estranged he still didn't want him to die he was his br- he was important.
So that's how he found himself walking towards the manor with a passed out Kaeya in hand.
“Master Diluc, mas- sir Kaeya” Adelinde exclaimed, running out of the manor to them and helping bring Kaeya inside.
Diluc could see Adelinde’s worried yet hopeful look as she glanced between the brother’s as they gently put Kaeya down on the couch, and his heart twinged with guilt remembering how devastated she was when diluc left and Kaeya moved out so soon after Crepus death.
She had not known the reason Kaeya ‘chose’ to move out, or why he had changed his last name, but she had always had hope that her boy’s would once again be brother’s and love each other like they had used too.
And just seeing the hope in her eye’s now that they were both here made him feel guilty.
“Oh my, is that mast- sir Kaeya” Elzer asked as he walked in, a panicked look on his face.
Duilc didn’t miss the fact that both of them had nearly called him ‘master Kaeya’ nor the quick glance they gave each other as Elzer walked farther into the room, only stopping when he was nearly on top of them.
That doesn't matter right now they needed to figure out what was wrong with Kaeya.
Adelinde seemed to pick up on the panicked look in his eye because she looked at him softly “what happened master Diluc, why is sir Kaeya unconscious”. She had added a soothing tone to her voice Though Diluc could also hear her overwhelming panic.
“Did he get injected with something? '' Elzer asked as his hand ran over a small puncture wound in Kaeya’s arm.
“What-” Diluc whipped his head around examining his -brothers- arm, as he started explaining what had happened and how the guy who had apparently injected his brother with something had just randomly started screaming at him about ‘something, something secret something, something sinner’.
They were both looking at him with worried expressions which had only gotten worse when he had explained that the guy who did this had died the moment he had swallowed a pill he’d had hidden in his mouth and nobody even knew he was injected with something nonetheless what he was injected with.
-
Adelinde walked into the room living having just exited the room they had moved Kaeya to so he could rest, “i have look over sir Kaeya and i haven't found anything physically wrong with him but because of the injection i hav-”
Her sentence was cut off by the sound of someone knocking at the door and stepping in.
Diluc had recognized the voice of the person that entered, well of course he recognized it as it was Jean
“Acting grandmaster Jean thank you for coming so fast” Adelinde had said as she walked over to the door to greet Jean.
“Sorry for just walking in Ms. Adelinde when you told me Kaeya was hurt i came as fast as i could, is he still glowing?”
Diluc flashed Adelinde a look “ He started glowing again” he said in a worried tone.
“Again?” Adelinde asked as she gave him a pointed look “you seem to have forgotten to mention he was glowing before master Diluc” he flushed he had forgotten to tell them that.
Diluc quickly looked away from Adelinde, face still a little flushed as he turned to Jean and cleared his throat “Anyway’s- thank you for taking the time to come and check on him, we don’t know what he was injected with but the glowing seems to be a side effect as it has happened twice”.
Jean looked slightly taken back at the thanks. "There's no need to thank me, Kaeya is a friend and he has been hurt, I will do whatever I can to help, and find out what is wrong.”
Diluc was surprised to see how strongly Jean felt about helping Kaeya- ya they were childhood friends but Diluc had kinda just assumed they had drifted apart like he and Jean had.
But it would make sense, he supposed, that Jean and Kaeya would stay close as he and Jean didn't really drift apart; it was more like he vanished without saying a word to anyone the day after his father’s funeral .
He felt a twinge of hurt as he remembered how close the three of them had been as children, but now he barely even talked to them.
Dulic looked to Jean as she started talking “I would like to check Kaeya as soon as possible, is he awake?”
“Sir Kaeya has not woken up, and it is worrying to me as even when we tried to wake him he would not wake up.” Adelaide answered as she signaled for Jena to follow her to Kaeya’s room.
Duilc decided to follow them to Kaeya’s room as he was starting to feel something was off and it’s worrying him not that he would admit that.
As they are walking to Kaeya’s room the unease Diluc feels start’s to get worse and unconsciously starts walking a little faster.
When they reach the room and he can’t see Kaeya in his bed his heart drop’s, but when he heard a small gasp from Adelinde and looked to see what she was staring at his heart stopped, because this was not his brother- well it is but.
There he looked in shock at the small child sleeping on the bed, right where they had left Kaeya.
