Work Text:
The pain started earlier that morning. Lumine had gotten up extra early due to her wanting to make Venti some breakfast as a surprise. He always loved it when she cooked some food, it was much better than his cooking.
As she started her morning routine, Lumine felt something out of the ordinary. However, it was something Lumine was all too familiar with. She grabbed some clothes to change into and frantically ran to the bathroom to confirm her suspicions.
To her horror, she was painfully correct; She had gotten her period.
Lumine panicked a bit and checked the mess that it caused. She breathed a sigh of relief when she realized that it wasn’t as bad as it could have been. ‘Nothing some hydrogen peroxide can’t fix when it comes to blood!’ She thought as she changed her outfit.
For the stained clothes, she just had to put some of the peroxide on the stains and let it clear up. That was the easy part.
When Lumine got to the kitchen, she felt some pain in the area near her stomach. ‘It’s just hunger, I haven’t eaten yet.’ She thought as she started to make some pancakes for her and Venti.
The batter was finished and as she started to finish making the pancakes, she felt more pain stabbing her. Lumine tried to ignore it and focus on the food, but it was getting hard to ignore like before.
Lumine makes all the pancakes and plates them, adding some berries and syrup to make it look nicer. All the while, the pain gets worse and worse. Now, it was like she was getting punched in the gut repeatedly.
She finishes both plates of food and goes to the big closet to grab her painkillers. Lumine’s always getting hurt and injured so she really needs them. Venti constantly tells her to be more careful, but she’s still too reckless.
Lumine opens it and to her shock and horror, she had run out of pain meds. Right when she needed them too.
She then goes to the bedroom to check on Venti, he’s still asleep and Lumine doesn’t have the heart to wake him. He looks too adorable to wake when he’s asleep.
So, Lumine just watches him. Her cramp is still getting worse but seeing Venti so comfortable makes the pain feel more bearable.
He stirs a bit in his sleep and wakes up. He looks half asleep but happy to see Lumine. “Good morning Lumi. How are you feeling this morning?”
“Good morning my dear bard. I’m feeling ok.” She decided to come clean about her cramp. “I just have a small cramp.”
Venti, who is still half awake, looks shocked. He quickly panics and checks her temperature and how her skin feels.
He would always overreact a little bit when Lumine was even a little bit unwell. Even a stuffy nose meant she had to take it easy that day, by request of Venti. He cares a lot about her and is too afraid to possibly lose her. She can’t blame him, after all, he had lost people close to him before and it’s really affected him.
He’s clingy and a bit overprotective as a result, but Lumine doesn’t mind. In fact, she likes that he’ll cling to her sometimes and that he’s over protective of her. Venti isn’t too overprotective, but just enough for him to force her into 6 layers of clothes on a cold day in winter. Lumine doesn’t even need layers in the winter, but Venti doesn’t want her to catch a cold.
After assessing that Lumine wasn’t sick, Venti stretched and yawned a bit. He was going to start his day. Lumine went down to the kitchen to make sure the pancakes were still hot and made her coffee and got his wine.
Lumine never really liked Venti’s heavy drinking habits, and he does drink less now. But she’ll sometimes give him wine to drink when it’s early and at night.
Once Venti came to the kitchen, he was pleasantly surprised. “Lumine, you made this appetizing meal all by yourself?”
“I did, I couldn’t sleep so I got up early and made this for us.” Lumine was telling a half truth, she didn’t want him to know she woke up early just to make them food.
“You know, maybe I can try to use some sleep magic to help you sleep better, but let’s forget about that for right now. For now, let’s eat!” Venti walks over to the table and takes a seat. Lumine follows his lead, sitting across from him.
As they ate, Lumine’s cramp was getting slightly better, but still hurt a lot. She was out of pain meds, Lumine lost her only heating pad the week before and still hasn’t found it, and she was running out of options to treat it. Now she had a loss of appetite, she ate a little bit of the pancakes she made and gave the rest to Venti, much to his concern.
Once Venti finished, he collected the plates and cups from the table and put them in the sink. He had told Lumine to relax a bit while Lumine was in the living room on the couch.
He joined her a few minutes later with a blanket and some snacks for them. He put the snacks on the table and threw the blanket over them. Venti had also brought one of Lumine’s stuffed toys and had given it to her.
Lumine still sleeps holding a stuffed toy, some find it childish but she needs it to sleep calmly. Venti always makes sure she has it whenever she’s about to sleep to make sure she sleeps well. The pair found it odd whenever someone said sleeping with a stuffed toy as an adult is weird, but they just ignore it.
She holds her plushie close and relaxes. The heat from the blanket was sort of helping her cramp, but the worst of it was yet to come.
Venti was cuddling with Lumine on the couch when suddenly, she is overcome with a wave of nausea. “Venti… I don’t.. feel so good..”
“What’s wrong?” Venti’s voice conveys clear worry and concern for Lumine. She rarely asks for help or shows what she thinks is any sign of weakness.
So this is very concerning. “I feel…?!” she gets cut off by the vomit reaching her mouth. Lumine puts her hand to her face and Venti races to grab the bucket they have.
He barely brings it to her in time before she throws up. Venti holds her hair back and speaks calmly to her. She throws up for a few minutes and when she stops, Lumine is left shaking and uneasy.
“Is… Is it over…?”
“It appears to be, just breathe my starlight.”
Lumine was left there hunched over a bucket full of vomit and her breath coming out in quick bursts.
She gets up after a few minutes and Venti helps her clean up. Lumine is visibly embarrassed and seems out of it, he catches notice of this and gives her a kiss on the cheek.
“Starlight, go wash up. I’ll deal with the bucket.”
“But…” She was the cut off by his soft and calming voice again.
“No buts, go wash up and relax, I’ll handle the rest.”
Lumine didn’t resist and went to wash up. Venti brought her clothes, he brought her nightwear? This was odd to Lumine but she still changed into it.
Once she stepped out of the bathroom and walked to the living room, she was greeted by her lover and a comfy setup for the two.
“Surprise! It may be the mid afternoon, but you need to relax and sleep.” He walked over to her and pressed a small kiss to her forehead. “You’ve been staying up too late, you’ll crash sooner or later and if it’s not at home or while you're cooking… it could end poorly.”
“I know, but I feel like I can’t get a lot of sleep because well…”
Lumine paused, she was afraid to tell him that the reason she can’t get enough sleep is because of her stomach hurting. She needs a lot of food to sustain her energy and started to eat smaller portions to make sure Venti has enough food to eat. As a result, her stomach tends to hurt a lot at night. It wakes her up and keeps her up.
“Because what, dear?”
“Because my stomach hurts at night… I haven’t been eating as much as I used to because I’m concerned about you eating enough. I thought I would be fine but it’s been affecting me at night. It wakes me up and keeps me up.” She’s visibly embarrassed about this reason, but it’s the truth.
Venti takes a second to process this before he shoves an apple into her hands. “Why didn’t you tell me sooner? I appreciate the thought but you need to eat until your stomach won’t hurt at night!”
She takes the apple and eats it while going to sit down. Lumine sits down and realizes she’s still on her period. And it feels like a heavy one too.
“Well, I guess this week will be hell…”
Venti looks concerned. “Because of your period? I’ll get you more painkillers and another heating pad.”
“Yes, thank you.”
“I’ll go get them right now, just relax here until I get back. I made sure you had light novels, snacks, wine, and a comfy environment so you could relax as well as you can right now!” Venti hands her a light novel and she takes it.
“Thank you my dear bard. You know where to get this stuff and you have the money, right?” Lumine raises an eyebrow as she says this, she wants to make sure he remembers.
“I do, don’t worry.” He says while grabbing his backpack and getting his shoes on. “I’ll be back in a bit, bye my starlight!”
Lumine laughs a bit at the name and smiles. “Ok then, bye my dear windflower!”
When Venti returns home an hour later, he sees that Lumine has fallen asleep. He walks over to her and kisses her forehead.
“Sleep well my dear warrior.”
