Quality Time and Dinosaurs

Summary:

Sirius wants some quality time with his long lost brother only to end up picking out a show that...

Notes:

Disclaimer - I don't own Harry Potter. This is written for the first regular Friday challenge for May 2024 but is based on something my brother wanted me to write, and it fits the theme of quality.

Work Text:

“I’m the baby!”

“What are you doing?”

Sirius stared at the screen, controller in hand, frowning. “What is that?”

“A dinosaur,” Regulus said, looking at the screen as he leaned over the back of the couch, frowning as he did so. “I’ve always wondered…”

“That’s not…”

“…if they’re just ancient dragons.”

“Huh?” Sirius turned his head, looking at his younger brother, his mind still after so many years not getting Regulus, even with Regulus having taken on living as a Muggle, to the point of having a Muggle wife.

“I’m the baby!”

Sirius took a deep breath. “Muggles came up with this show?”

“Obviously,” Regulus said. “I’ve other shows I prefer.”

“Then why do you bloody have this among your movie tapes?”

“Dinosaurs,” Regulus said. “I bloody love dinosaurs.” He leaned over a little more. “So one of my brothers…” A sound from Sirius resulted in Regulus correcting himself. “My brother-in-laws found this for me. They’re always finding odd little things.”

Sirius frowned, rewinding the tape, and then, “I’m the baby!”

“That’s you!”

Regulus frowned. “Huh?”

“The whole ‘I’m the baby’ thing,” Sirius said.

“Uh, no,” Regulus said. “That’s Jules.”

“Who?”

“I’m the baby!”

Sirius glanced over at the little girl who looked like a member of the Black family, one he ’d not noticed until then, and he jumped out of his skin. “You?”

“I’m the baby!”

“Sirius, meet my youngest, Jules.”

“Wait! You have kids?” Sirius sucked in his breath, eyes wide, having yet another thing that needed to sink in.

“You’re the one who decided to make yourself home in my home without…”

“I wanted to spend some quality time with you,” Sirius retorted. “I told that wife of yours…”

“Me too!”

Sirius turned to look at her. “Why?”

“I’m the baby!”

“And you don’t argue with the baby,” Regulus said, taking the controller.

“And that’s why I said this is you,” Sirius said, shaking his head.

Regulus sighed. “Can we not? You know?”

“You know what?” Jules piped up.

“Don’t worry about it,” Regulus said. “Just, your Uncle Sirius is trying to give me a hard time.”

“Because that’s what siblings do?”

“Uh-huh?”

“Wait?” You’ve more than one kid?” Sirius asked.

Regulus shrugged. “I’m the baby, so I don’t have to answer that . ”
