Work Text:

Lindir was drunk. Very drunk. He clumsily walked over to you and leaned against the wall.

You shook your head. “Lindir… how much have you had to drink?”

Lindir shrugged and pushed himself off the wall causing him to stagger towards you.

“Lindir you’re so drunk you can’t even stand on your own!” You scolded as you grabbed him.

Lindir chuckled and looked up at you before smiling and letting his forehead fall on your shoulder. “He he!” He chuckled, stumbling even closer to you.

You sighed, annoyed by his poor choice to drink too much wine… again. “Ok, let’s get you to bed…”

“Can I finish my drink first?” Lindir asked holding up a bottle of wine.

“Oh my- NO! Lindir give that to me!” You hissed, pulling it away from him. You gently pulled his arm around your neck before putting yours around his middle. “Come on…”

Lindir staggered down the hall, away from the ballroom.

You shook your head as Lindir attempted to reach for the bottle of wine in your other hand. “LINDIR!” You scolded as he grabbed the neck of the bottle. “You are drunk enough as it is!!”

Lindir groaned and muttered something in elvish. He then tried to grab the bottle again. “Lindir!” You scolded, trying not to laugh. “No!”

Lindir gave you puppy eyes.

“No.” You said sternly.

He whined and weakly reached for it.

“Noooo!” You laughed, moving it out of his reach.

Lindir paused before placing his lips on your cheek. You gasped and froze, eyes going wide. Your grip on the bottle loosens. Lindir snatched the bottle, took a swig, and drunkenly staggered off.

“Lindir!” You called, coming out of your shock and running after him.

When you caught up to him you slammed him against the wall. Not roughly just enough to seem intimidating.

Lindir whimpered and looked down.

You took the bottle from him and sighed. “Lindir, look at me…”

He looked up at you with sad eyes.

You felt a pang in your chest. “What’s wrong?”

He looked away.

You sighed and looked at the bottle in your hand. You then realized you were both standing outside Lindir’s room. You opened the door and pulled him inside. “Come on…” you said gently, setting the bottle on a table and leading him over to the bed. “Sit down.”

Lindir sat and you did the same. “Why did you kiss me?” You asked after a moment of silence.

Lindir looked at you and smiled before grabbing you roughly and kissing you again. “I love you.” He said.

You sighed and shook your head, forcing him to lie down. “You are drun-mhhhhhh!” You yelped as he pulled you into his arms and placed his lips on yours again. “I love you….”

You felt tears well in your eyes. You knew it couldn’t be true. You wanted it to be true but you refused to believe it. Lindir kissed you again and you pushed him away. “Lindir…no.” You whispered. “I’m too sober for this.” You added mostly to yourself.

Lindir grabbed the bottle and handed it to you.

You hesitated before taking a sip. It was good wine. You downed a large portion of it before setting it down.

“Goodnight lind-”

He kissed you again and again. “Stay…” he pleads. And for the first time, you notice the pain hidden beneath his eyes.

Your heart pounds and yells at you to stay. Your head tells you he’s an adult. And, even though he’s drunk, he needs to act like and.

Torn between the two decisions, Lindir pulls you onto the bed. “Stay.” He begs again.

You sigh. “For a few minutes…”

Lindir smiles and pulls you into a hug. Continuously kissing your head. “I love you.”

Every time he says it, your heart breaks a little more. You want nothing more in the world than it to be true. You want him to love you. But you know it’s just the alcohol talking not him.

Finally, you give in and kiss him back. 𝘢𝘵 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘵 𝘪𝘵 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘯𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵. You think to yourself, kissing him with the love you’ve had hidden for him for over a century.

-.-.-

When you wake, you find an arm draped over your middle. You turn red when you realize you fell asleep in Lindir’s room.

Lindir’s eyes flutter open and you slam yours shut.

“Wha? Y/n?”

He sits up and gently wakes you. “Y/n? What are you doing in here?”

You blink and look away. “You really don’t remember?”

“Remember what?” He asks, tilting his head.

“Last night.”

“The ball?”

“How about you kissing me?” You ask a little annoyed.

“I what?!”

You look away before getting out of the bed. “Forget I said anything. Good day, Lindir…”

“Y/n, wait!” He yelps, grabbing your wrist and turning you around. “Did I really kiss you?”

You sigh. “Yes Lindir, you did.”

He hesitates a moment before speaking again. “D-did I do anything else?” He begins to panic. “Please tell me I didn’t do anything to you agents your will.” Tears begin to fill his eyes. “I-I didn’t hurt you did I? Please tell me I didn’t hurt you!” He crumples to his knees in front of you, holding your hands in his shaky ones as he bows his head, sobbing softly. “I hurt you… didn’t I?”

You frown and kneel down, gently tilting his chin up. “It’s only my heart…” you whisper.

“What?”

You let out a sob as well. “I should have at least tried to stop you. Or left. But no! I just let you do it. Not just that I-i encouraged it…” You trembled.

“What?”

“I wanted more than anything for your words and actions to be true. So I-i…” you shook your head and went to stand when he gently pulled you into a hug. “You’re alright…”

You looked at him with teary eyes. “Was any of it even real? Or were you just that drunk?”

Lindir forced you to look at him. “Y/n. I can’t be sure of what I said last night but I can tell you right now, while my mind is clear, that I love you with everything I am…”

You just looked at him for a moment before wrapping your arms around him. “I love you too!”
