Your cheeks are wet. You can still see fire in Merilwen's eyes. You wince at the nickname that rolls off her tongue like it's a joke - is it worse if she's laughing at you, or with you?
Prudence is sizing you up; the pirate is saying you're better than this. If you were ever going to be, you won't now.
You step back.
The man who seranaded you once thinks you're a nuisance now. How soon will the rest of them see that's there's nothing worth waiting for inside you?
'Geth forgives you,' They said. Your heart pounds, They lied, They lied, They lied.
You step back. You don't say sorry. Instead you say 'kill.'
