"Hey Charlie! Knox! You two coming?"
"Not yet Neil, I gotta talk to Knox for a minute, we'll be back soon though," Charlie replied, before turning back to Knox once the others wouldn't be able to hear them. "Y'know Knoxious, you look beautiful in the moonlight," he smiles at him.
Knox smiled back, somewhat stunned by Charlie's compliment. Charlie usually does this with any pretty girl he comes across, but this? This felt out of character for a minute. Though it was very endearing, and it sure gave him butterflies just thinking about it. "So, what did you want to talk to me about?"
Charlie took his hand and led him back into the dark cave and sat down with him, still holding onto him. "Well, I've been holding this in for a while but I really need to get this off my chest, and it's taken me a long time to even be able to muster up the right words in my head," he said, his voice low and his brown eyes glistening in the moonlight that shone into the cave. There was a moment of silence, only broken by Charlie taking a deep breath and saying the following:
"Knox Overstreet, I like you. A lot. I don't know how you'll react to this but I really just needed to say it because it's been on my mind for so, so long."
A moment of silence. Those glistening brown eyes of Charlie's began to fill with panic as the silence went on for what in the moment felt like an hour. All this dread and panic dissolved as Knox shifted gradually closer to him before meeting lips. They stay kissing for another 10 seconds before leaving that position and looking into each other's eyes with such longing and happiness. "So I'll take that as "I like you too, Charlie Dalton", if that's correct?" Charlie laughed as he lent against Knox.
"Mhm. That really does make a lot of sense though, honestly," Knox replied.
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"I saw how you'd look at me when I called Chris, or read that poem about her. You weren't exactly secretive about it," Knox said through a smile. His eyes were fixated on Charlie's lips, and Charlie's eyes were staring at his. Charlie laughed at this remark in agreement.
"That entire time, I really thought "Why can't that be me", you know? I'd been pining over you for so long and I never really knew what to do about it. I'd get jealous, and to combat that I'd just look for other people," Charlie admitted this somewhat hesitantly, like he wasn't entirely prepared to open up like this with anyone, nevermind Knox.
The only thing Knox could really think to say was, "Likewise, darling." Not that Charlie would've cared much.
"Pet names already?" Charlie replied.
"Of course, what else am I supposed to call you anyway, other than your name?"
"Nuwanda maybe?"
They both laughed as they ran through the forest, making their way back to their dorms before anyone could even notice they were gone.
