Chapter 1: Periods suck!

Chapter Text

Today was going great! Okay okay that was sarcasm, everything had been going wrong since you woke up.

First off, your period had shown up overnight and it had bled through your pajama pants onto your bed sheets which meant you had to bring them down to the laundry room to wash them later.

Second, you had run out of your favorite snacks from your stash under your bed, maybe you could stop by the convenience store after class, after class... You would have to wait til after class... Fuck.

Third and finally, your heating pad had broken but you didn't know until you needed it most.

After unplugging your phone that was charging on your nightstand, putting it in your pajama pants pocket, finding your bottle of painkillers and taking a couple so you could feel somewhat like a human being you left your room to come down for breakfast, you met Kaminari in the hallway and him being him noticed you were not a cheerful as you usually would be when you greeted him and he tried to lift your spirits with corny jokes like,

"Hey, what do you call an angry carrot?"
"Kaminari, I have literally no idea!" You would chuckle, waiting to hear the answer.
"A steamed veggie!"

He kept doing this, coming up with more and more jokes to tell you until you both reached the common room and he got distracted saying good morning to Uraraka, asking her about the test Mr. Aizawa was planning. You saw Todoroki chatting to Midoriya about quirks, you could have swore you had seen Todoroki glance over when you entered but you pushed the thought aside and looked over to the kitchen where Bakugo and Kirishima were in the kitchen cooking breakfast, as much as the hot-headed blond complained about other people he really did like making sure everyone was fed and healthy.

Kiri was helping him in the kitchen, Bakugo yelling at him every so often and making sure he was following his orders to a T. It was a sweet sight somehow and not long after they had made enough food for all of class 1-A and it looked DELICIOUS! Food was a must and everyone dug in eagerly once it was placed out on the table.

Your body still felt like it was being weighed down by an invisible force pressing you downwards heavier but food and chatting with Tsuyu Asui next to you definitely helped, she was so sweet and understanding and it was so easy to talk to her. You had told her all about your rude awakening by the one and only mother nature itself and how your snacks had mysteriously disappeared (you had eaten them the other day and just forgot to restock them... shhh). She was sympathetic to your situation and had told you it was going to be alright, which sounded genuine coming from her as she meant it.

You continued to eat and chat with her until it was time to get ready for a long day at school, cleaning up your dish, going upstairs to your dorm, brushing your teeth, slipping on your school uniform, grabbing your bag from your desk chair and speeding out the door as not to be late for class as that would not end well.

School was tiring and your body ached afterwards, Aizawa decided today was a good day for some fitness training. Running, climbing, push-ups, just about anything he could do to make the entire class as tired as possible. Being able to sit down for lunch was a godsend and it was wonderful to let your body rest for a bit, mina had not so subtly called you over to sit with her.

"Y/N!" She had called over to you from her table.

"COME AND SIT WITH US!" That girl had a set of lungs! And absolutely no sense of it would be better if you came up to me and asked me to my face instead of hollering across the entire cafeteria! But whatever, she was a good friend and super fun to be around so having to deal with that was just part of the package and you wouldn't trade it for the world.

If you were going to be honest you did not have the energy to converse in huge conversations and just stuck to listening and commenting here and there, occasionally looking around at all the people chatting and eating. You could see Todoroki listening to Midoriya ramble again, either about All Might or his quirk or something or other. He never had much of an expression on his face, it made you want to get closer to him to get to know him for some reason, you just couldn't figure it out.

You didn't realize just how long you were staring until Uraraka, who was sitting next to you, leaned in close to you and looked to where you were staring before getting a grin on her face that meant trouble.

"Soooo..." She drew out the o, "who are you lookin' at?" Her eyebrows wiggled as she looked at you who was unfazed-

"Nothing..." You hoped she would let it go but that was not the case sadly, she was now going to interrogate you until she got answers and after everything that had already happened today and the fact that you still had the rest of class to go to you really didn't need nor want her to be all over you asking questions, especially because she had this weird crush thing on the person Todoroki was talking with, the one and only Midoriya Izuku.

"You were looking at that Shoto boy!"

"I don't want to talk about it thank you-" You said quickly.

Uraraka shut up at your words, knowing now wasn't the time and you felt guilty for snapping at her so you decided to lighten the mood, "plus, you've got no right to talk, you have a crush on Midoriya but you refuse to admit it-" "I do not!" "See, you are just proving my point!"

The atmosphere became lighter as you all continued to talk, after lunch was over it was time to go back to class and finish that before you would be done for the day and you could relax in your dorm with a hot heating pad on your stomach and could just disconnect from the world for a bit.

The classes after lunch had actually been alright and it was nice to rest your muscles and the walk back to the dorms was nice, the slight wind kept you cool and the sun made sure you didn't get too chilly. It was nice.

The dorms were bustling with people but the only thing you were worried about was getting up to your dorm, which meant avoiding people who wanted to pull you into conversations which you did quite successfully if you did say so yourself.

Stepping into your room and closing the door behind you was a sound you never thought could come any sooner, you immediately went over to your drawer and got out your electric heating pad, plugged it into the outlet by your bed, turned it on max and flopped down with phone in hand to disconnect from the world for a while.

After scrolling for a few minutes you realized your body was still the same temperature, your heating pad wasn't any warmer then when you had turned it on! What was going on?!

You jumped out of bed to grab at the cord and remote to the heating pad, the light wasn't on, was the outlet broken? It couldn't be! Your phone charged on that same outlet overnight!

While still in denial you bolted over to the other side of your room to the other outlet, still nothing. No light came on on the remote, it was definitely broken. You had used this pad for so long and now you had to buy a new one, this sucked!

Trying not to cry over it you dragged yourself back to your bed to grab your comfort snacks before remembering you were out of the only ones you wanted, that made everything come crashing down and you sunk into your bed as you let the tears roll forth, not even caring about how loud you were and those weird hiccup sounds that happen. It was just all going wrong.

That's when you heard a knock at your door. Who in the world could that be?!

~Earlier~

Shoto had noticed our downturned mood since you came down to the common room, you weren't as bright as you usually were and it concerned him. He started noticing little things about you and committing them to memory, your fighting style, what you liked to get for lunch, the way you talked, just to name a few. He was a bit scared he seemed like a stalker but he wasn't actively looking and memorizing your traits, he just... did.

During breakfast he had caught a few words of your conversation with Tsu, he didn't really understand what you two were talking about so he went back to eating and listening to Deku ramble as he had been all morning, it was nice talking to him and he knew a lot about pro hero's, even his father Endeavor, which was a little creepy and a tad concerning but he hated his dad enough to let him keep talking about how All Might was better both in personality and in villain fights.

And Midoriya was strangely determined to be friends with him which he really didn't mind as he never had any friends growing up, trauma and stuff he wasn't going to get into-

But noticing things about people was something he had picked up and now did without knowing, he had now accepted this and wondered what had happened between when you went to bed last night and when you came down to the common room that morning. He would ask Tsu as he was also close to her but you were talking to her right now and he didn't want to interrupt to ask a question right in front of you, he would wait and ask her later.

He wasn't quite sure when later though- He thought to ask Tsu while walking to school but she was not walking near him enough for him to talk to her, then again at lunch he thought he could get close to her but she was sitting with Mina, Uraraka, and you today. He could hear Mina call you over to her table from across the cafeteria, she really was such a bubbly and energetic person, it sounded exhausting to be like that all the time if he was going to be honest.

The walk back to the dorms he also wanted to try and talk to Tsu but again she wasn't near him and if he was going to be honest he was kinda scared of how girls traveled in packs. Once they were back into the dorms you had turned in already and had gone up to your room which meant he could finally ask her what had gotten your mood down, "Tsu, you are good friends with Y/N yes?" Tsu had tilted her head questionably "yes, why? ribbit. "

"If it is possible could you tell me why Y/n did not look as happy as they normally do?" Tsu's eyes widened slightly as she realized what he wanted to know, "Are you sure you want to know? Kero ," "Yes, I am sure, I want to know why." She then went on to explain periods and how painful they could be and the hormonal imbalance that came along with it.

"So, the uterus sheds its lining every month and it contracts to shed the lining causing cramps-"
"Yes, ribbit. "
"Why would they make it so painful?" That part had got to him, why did women have to be in pain for so long? His sister Fuyumi had told him about periods once or twice but he had forgotten about them after going to UA.
"Don't know, it's been that way since as long as we have been alive. It's how the female reproductive system works."

His brows furrowed and he pushed himself off from where he was leaning on the couch and started walking to the elevator to the upper dorms.
"Where are you going?" Tsu asked, now confused.
"I need to help Y/n." Shoto replied, still walking.
She was still confused about what he could do, what could he do for you? She wasn't sure but what she did know was you would enjoy his company at least.

Once he was in the elevator, the doors were closed and it had started moving he came to the realization that he was stumped. He had just learnt what periods were, how was he even going to help you with yours?! He had never had one... Maybe he could just ask you what you needed and then see what he could do for you from there? Yeah, that sounded like a solid plan!

The elevator had stopped, he stepped out and started walking down the hall to your dorm, stopping at your door and he was about to bring his hand up to knock when he heard sobbing on the other side, he needed to find out how to help you now!

Without even thinking he knocked on the door.

----------

Inside your dorm you were internally panicking once you heard the knock, who was that?! Had they heard you crying?! How were you going to explain this if it was one of your male classmates?!

Your anxiety and panic made more tears spill forth and your breathing quickened, you were digging yourself into a deeper and deeper hole and you didn't know how to climb out.

It wasn't until you heard a voice outside your door that the thoughts came to a stop.
"Y/n?"
Shoto's concerned monotone voice seeped in through the door, he had heard your sniffling halt once he had spoken. Why was he here?! Did someone say something?! No way he would take interest in me! No.. no Y/n, no self doubt, we talked to ourselves about this! You thought silently to yourself, debating the pros and cons of going to face him, what would you even say?

You needed to get up and open that door, it's rude to keep him waiting!

Pulling yourself to a sitting position you then pushed up off the bed and walked over to the door, almost tiptoeing as you went, for some reason wanting to make as little sound as possible.

Turning the handle and pulling it open a crack you were met with the dual-haired boy, his two toned eyes full of concern. You probably looked like shit with your tear stained cheeks and messed up hair but he didn't look like he cared about that, he really did look like he only cared about you , you as in your wellbeing and health.

"Are you alright?"
You couldn't lie, you were a mess. Emotionally and physically.
"No..."

There was a short pause before he spoke again.
"What can I do to help?"
Help? help with what?!... Oh, he probably went to someone for information, he was one to do that before walking into a situation.
"Did someone say something-"
"Only because I asked. You did not seem right today." His cheeks heated up a bit admitting that, this was a new feeling...

You let that sink in, Shoto Todoroki, the son of the pro hero Endeavor, had noticed you , and was worried enough to check up on you. Damn-

"I-" Words failed you, you wanted to cry again, not out of sadness but out of happiness.
"How can I help you? Tsu told me about periods and I want to help." He was always blunt and to the point, he almost had no sense of shame which in a way made him easier to talk to. You had to snap out of this trance thingy, he wanted to help, you needed to get your head out of the clouds.

"Well- unless you know how to fix a broken heating pad and make my favorite snacks magically appear in my hands I'm not sure what you really can do..." By then you had pulled the door open all the way and was leaning slightly into the doorframe as pain slowly crept back into your body, most times when you were on your period you wanted to be held and cuddled but you were not going to ask him to do that- Not unless he offered first. He seemed to think for a moment, his brows scrunching together slightly in thought. "Heat helps?" He asked, "Yes, it does." You answered, you now wondered what was cooking in his head, was it a good idea or something stupid?

He lifted his left palm until it was chest height, the same side his scar was on, he seemed to be concentrating, using his quirk.
He concentrated until his hand burst into flame, causing you to jump back a bit in surprise.

"Why..." Your eyes were widened as you looked at the still burning flame atop his hand.
"My quirk." Well no shit sherlock! You thought, not saying anything as you did not want to argue with someone who could burn down the entire building.

"I can head my hand up for a bit before it burns." He looked up at you, the flames seeming to flicker across his eyes. You tilted your head in question "I don't understand-"

"I could be your heating pad if you want." Now that was an offer. But what about his quirk? the... flames?!?!

"But- Your quirk... how well can you control it?" He could hear the concerned edge to your voice "I am extremely good at controlling it, i trained a lot as a child." He snuffed out the flames and brought his hand back to his side.
"Extremely? That's a big word."
"Kaminari told me that long sophisticated words make you sound smarter." He informed you, that logic was definitely something Kaminari would say-
"Don't listen to any advice he tells you-"
"Why not?" It was his turn to tilt his head like a confused puppy, awe cute.
"Because-" You couldn't really think of a reason, you didn't want to say something like 'because he's dumb' because he really wasn't... Only a little bit...

"Because why?" Shoto asked, still looking like a puppy. Who gave this man permission to look this adorable?!

"Just because- Now, you say your quirk can work like a heating pad?" You tried to change the subject.

"Yes, I can use my quirk to help you if you will let me. For your snacks we can go down to the convenience store later and get them, I have my fathers card."
"Card? As in a credit card?!" You asked, new questions were popping up in your head but you never had time to ask them all as he reached into his pocket and pulled out a small rectangular piece of plastic, it was, in fact, a credit card.

"Holy shit..." You said in surprise, looking at the card.

"You look like you are in pain, would you like to lay down?" You hadn't noticed your breathing was getting heavier and you were slightly slouched, "Are you sure your quirk won't burn me?" You asked, uncertainty seeping into your voice.

"Yes, like I said, I am good at controlling it." You supposed he wasn't very good at reassurance but you decided to say fuck it and go for it, what was the worst that could happen? You die from being burnt alive?.... That was a very bad idea to think about...

The idea of lying down sounded amazing so you agreed to his idea and led him inside, closing the door behind you and leading him to the bed. the gears were turning and you were already thinking of the most optimal position for this. His fire comes from his left side so if he wants to be my heating pad we have to lay in a position that allows his arm to reach to my stomach in a way that's comfy... You then had Shoto lay on his side behind you, also on your side, spooning you. It was cozy and oddly comforting to feel his weight against your back and slightly on top of you when he moved his arm, hovering it just over your abdomen. "May I?"

AHHH HE ASKS FOR CONSENT! CAN I MARRY HIM NOW?!?!

You nod, "Mhm." And then he put his hand down, warmth immediately seeping through your shirt and making you sigh in relief, your muscles untensing more and more the longer you two stayed like that. It was comfortable silence and you might have fallen asleep for a bit which was much needed and Shoto stayed with you the entire time, only shifting once or twice, you couldn't remember in your dozy state.

You also couldn't remember when you had shifted and turned around to be facing him, snuggled into his chest. He made no noise and no indication that he was uncomfortable, the slow rhythmic rise and fall of his chest with his breathing lulling you back to sleep.

It was a while later before you had woken up again to your stomach growling, it had been quite a while since lunch and it wasn't suppertime yet... Fuck.

"Would you like to get up?" Shoto asked, his voice a bit raspy from lack of use. You hummed in response and he moved a bit so you could shuffle out from under his arm that was wrapped around you to get up and stretch, Shoto got up as well, he had noticed your stomach grumbling and so he posed the question of his earlier offer "Would you like to walk to the convenience store to get your snacks? You said you were all out." That was true, you were still craving them and he did say he would take you.

Well, how could you resist?
