Work Text:

In the dusty battleground of Teufort, the sun was setting, casting a golden glow over the old, weathered buildings. The mercenaries of Team Fortress 2 were taking a rare break from the chaos of combat. Scout sat on a crate, absently tossing a baseball into the air, when Pyro approached.

"Hey, Pyro," Scout greeted with a grin, though his curiosity was piqued. Pyro rarely approached anyone without a reason.

Pyro stood silently for a moment, then motioned for Scout to follow. Intrigued, Scout hopped off the crate and trailed behind. They reached a secluded corner of the base, away from prying eyes. Pyro turned to face Scout, hesitating.

"What's up?" Scout asked, his usual cocky demeanor softened by genuine concern.

Pyro took a deep breath, then reached up to the straps of their mask. Scout's eyes widened in realization. He had never seen Pyro without the mask and knew it was a big deal for them.

"You're gonna show me your face?" Scout asked softly. Pyro nodded, hands trembling.

As the mask came off, Pyro's face was revealed—soft, delicate features framed by unruly hair. They looked down, avoiding Scout's gaze, fear evident in their eyes.

Scout's heart ached at the vulnerability in front of him. He stepped closer, gently lifting Pyro's chin. "Hey, look at me," he said tenderly. "You're beautiful."

Pyro's eyes met Scout's, searching for any hint of insincerity but finding none. Scout's words were genuine, his expression full of admiration.

"Really," Scout continued, a warm smile spreading across his face. "You're pretty, Pyro. Don't ever doubt that."

Tears welled in Pyro's eyes, a mix of relief and gratitude. They reached out, and Scout took their hand, squeezing it reassuringly.

"You're not alone," Scout whispered. "Not ever."

In that quiet corner of the base, under the setting sun, a bond was forged. Pyro's fear melted away, replaced by the warmth of Scout's acceptance and kindness. Together, they faced the world, knowing that in each other, they had found something truly special.
