Work Text:
Warm. the blanket covering their bodies as they rest, a comfortable tangle of limbs as they pressed skin to skin. Bright. the sun's beams lightening the room through the curtain. The rays stretched perfectly against their faces. Soft, the look in Hyunjins eyes as they lay still in the bed, basking in the essence of morning.
Chan loved this feeling. The feeling of kisses placed on his forehead as Hyunjins fingers ran through his hair. Chan breathed in the air, smelling of lavender and citrus candles. He could hear the sound of Kkami in the next room. He took everything in, and even then, through all the beauty in the room, there was a sadness that could not be masked.
Chan let out a sigh as he buried his head further into Hyunjins chest. The sigh soon turned into a groan. He peaked out from his safe space to look at Hyunjins face, and after seeing Chan's pout, Hyunjin responded to Chan's cute noises with a smile, then a frown.
“I should just quit, fuck the contract. Who needs a career anyway?” Chan mumbled into Hyunjins chest as he lowered his head back into the boy below him. Hyunjin scoffed at the boy with adoration, continuing to play with the pile of brown strands in his fingers.
“I know it's hard, but don’t quit now. Just a few more weeks and it will be over, and we’ll have all the time in the world.” Hyunjin responded, yet he and Chan both knew it was a lie, as the idol life is constant; a vigorous schedule of training and recording, modeling and performing. Although Kingdom was set to end in about a month, that just means they would spend more time preparing for their next comeback, without Hyunjin.
Chan ‘mmm’d in response, looking back up at his pretty boy. “I would do anything to take you with me,” there was a but that was left unsaid. But you're not allowed to be with me. Hyunjin is still on hiatus and has been banned from being seen by the public, let alone his group members. Hyunjin is just about to respond when Chan's text notification goes off. An obnoxious groan is expelled from Chan, resulting in a chuckle from Hyunjin.
Chan rolls over, until he's sitting at the edge of the bed. He looks to the mirror on Hyunjins dresser, looking at the pictures taped to the frame, then, in the mirror, to the boy he gets to call his. He watches as Hyunjins eyes glaze over his back muscles, vision tracing every rise and fall of his shoulder blades. He continues to watch as Hyunjin sits up, and crawls over to Chan, until he's sitting behind him with his chest grazing his back.
He turns his head to the side as Hyunjins legs wrap around his waist and his arms are slung around his torso, his chin sitting prettily on the newly created space in between Chan's collar and neck. Chan can hear the boy's soft humming, as he drifts his fingers over Chan's skin.
“I would stay if I could.” Hyunjin could hear the croak in Chan's voice as the words came out.
“I know.” Is how Hyunjin responded, his hands unwrapping themselves from Chan, as he crawls around Chan so he's sitting in his lap. He holds Chan's face as he adjusts to the new position, Chan's hands laying naturally behind Hyunjin's back. “It’s okay. It's just a few days, and then you'll be back. I’ll be with you, back in your arms again.” Hyunjin says it with a sorrowful smile. Chan squeezes Hyunjin closer to his chest, as if to protect him from the world. Home is where the heart is, and while Chan is away, his heart will be waiting for him, in the hands of a boy wrapped in a duvet, softly waking up to the sun shining through the window. Home.
