The rebellion’s barracks are cold and dark. Not like Tantiss, of course. Nothing will ever be as bad as Tantiss.
When Omega regaled the other pilots with the story of how her brothers kickstarted the Clone Rebellion, She thought that Hera was going to learn Necromancy to bring Hemlock back from the dead and kill him herself.
But right now, everyone is asleep, and Omega’s own eyes slip closed as the scenery changes.
When she opens them again, she’s above the clouds. Not flying, but there’s clouds and soft light as far as the eye can see.
In the middle of them, sits a lanky, tan figure in white armor.
Omega walks closer to confirm her suspicions.
It’s him.
She sits down next to her brother and says his name. Her already shaky voice cracks with the weight of it.
“ Tech .”
Tech smiles softly and tilts his head in her direction. He looks at peace.
“You grew up, Ad’ika .”
Omega has to hold back tears with an annoyed look and a humorless laugh because he’s been gone for over a decade and that’s what he leads with?
“Why did you do that, you di’kut ?” She says, a single tear dripping down her cheek.
It’s Tech’s turn to laugh a little. Omega gingerly sets her hand atop his, and rests it completely when he doesn’t pull away.
“I did it for you,” he says, turning to meet her eyes.
“I know you did,” she breathes. “You saved a lot of our brothers.”
“And you’re fighting in your own war now.”
“Yeah.” She pauses. “Stars, Tech. I miss you. We all miss you.”
He nods. “I’m always watching over you, though. I’m always here.”
Omega tries to blink back more tears. “It’s not the same. There’s so many things I wish I could have asked you.”
Tech smiles again. “You’ll figure them out in time.”
“Kriff, Tech. You’re starting to sound like a Jedi.” She laughs. They sit in silence for a few seconds, until Tech breaks it.
“I’m proud of you, Omega. I’m sorry that I never told you before.”
Omega turns to him, crying softly.
“Thank you. For everything.”
He stands and helps her to her feet. It takes every ounce of will not to rush forward and hug him. Physical contact was never their thing, after all.
So instead she gently presses her forehead to his and begins to hum the song that Rex and Echo had taught her.
Kote!
Kandosii sa ka'rta, Vode an.
Tech joins in, and they finish the verse. A beat of silence hangs in the air again.
“It’s time, Ad’ika.” He says, a hand gently tapping her elbow.
Omega’s heart flutters. “I don’t want to go.”
Tech smiles sadly.
“The Rebellion needs you.”
“I need you!” She cries.
Tech pulls away to look her in the eyes. She never noticed the red circular scars around Tech’s.
“I’m always here. I always will be. We’ll see each other again.”
She nods sadly and backs away.
As the clouds fade and the barracks seep back into view, she heard her lost brother say one more thing.
“Tell the others that I love them. And I love you.”
When Omega opens her eyes again, she’s back in the barracks. Her comm is alight with a message, so she picks it up. It’s from Wrecker.
Hey kid. Just checking in. Love ya.
She smiles.
Glory!
One indomitable heart, Brothers all.
