Work Text:
Weeks after The Corruption of Paradise..
The light from the sunset glowed off of the lush, blue vegetation, giving the surroundings a nice and sharp lighting. The temperatures were perfect; with a warm feeling on your skin coated with light, windy breezes. On a flat, grassy surface surrounded by trees sits a peculiar person; one that isnt just an average shape. His square head and body shined a bright cyan, and he seemed to only wear a jacket with shorts just being above the knee, both being black. He is easily recognizable, especially after the corruption.. There is no doubt; We are watching over Lapis, The Hero who saved Paradise.
He sat down comfortably, watching as the sun started to settle down for the day. He seemed calm and content, just admiring the world around him change accordingly to its routine. But there's just one thing, slightly being a little out of place. The fact that he has no other friends present. Usually, A hero is born with a few more heroes to accompany him or her. It indeed would be very unusual to have a hero with no other heroes around. Especially since it takes more than one to kill a corruption entirely.
Lapis shuffled into another position, finally taking his eye off of the sun for a brief second. He grunted and occasionally yawned over the next few minutes. From what I assume, perhaps he was waiting for his friends.. or maybe just watching the sunset.
It was the second hypothesis, for your information. But that doesent mean there's no one coming to meet him. We can hear ruffling coming from behind him, and a faint glow of yellow, orange and green growing stronger as it walks up to Lapis. Lapis turned to the ruffling, quickly realizing that he recognizes these glowing colors. Its his friends. The other people he was born with.
They looked very similar to him, the only differences being that their heads had different shapes and had different colors for their body. The colors of their body were yellow, orange and green. The green one had a pentagon for a head, yellow having a triangle, and the orange having a circle. All but the yellow one presented as a male. Lapis immediately spoke to them, in a tone where he sounded enthusiastic, yet didn't show it much. The green one was the first to speak.
"Lapis! We were looking for you!" Malachite said. Lapis then responded to them. "Friends. I was wondering what you were doing."And we were wondering where you were! Was this all you were doing, just sitting there?", Citrine spoke out. "I was watching the sunset, for your information.." "Well, lets just get to the point, guys.. Auntie let us have some berries and fruit from her home.", Zoisite interrupted. He held out a plastic box with strawberries, cranberries, and oranges inside - all of which were Lapis's favorite. Usually, When Lapis is showing emotion, it isnt very obvious, and pretty hard to catch on. But this time, he showed a little more enthusiasm than usual. "Ah? All of those are my favorite." Lapis would probably be drooling if he was a dog. "Really? I didnt know you also liked strawberry.", Zoisite blurted. Everyone else seemed pretty happy to just be there, also listening to Zoisite, of course. "Yeah, Zoisite. Do you guys want to sit down here?" All three of them beamed; "Sure!"
They all went to go sit beside Lapis, with Zoisite setting down the fruit in front of everyone before sitting down next to Malachite. Citrine said almost immediately, "Should we all start eating now?" "I was thinking that, too. You washed these, right?" "Yeah, Lapis. Lets go ahead!" They opened the plastic box and reached out for their fruit (or berry) of choice, and started eating their food immediately. Lapis seemed to be eating his food much quicker than the others, yet again, showing how happy he feels. It makes lots of sense; If I was with my friends while eating my favorite food, I would have been as happy as him, too.
When everyone had finished their share, and there were only a few berries and oranges in the box, they all simply rested and stayed silent for a few seconds. "Im very grateful to be around you all," Lapis confessed. "Things feel less lonely with you guys. I dont know how things would be without all of us." Everyone stayed silent for a second. "We love you too, Lapis. You're a great person, and we've learned a lot from you.' Citrine remarked. Malachite then added on; "Yeah. The entire reason why most of our creations back home are so good is because of you. You're really smart." They all smiled at each other. There were no words needed to express their emotions. They knew that they were all thinking the same thing; about how much they loved each other. Lapis immediately felt the urge to just bring everyone into one big hug. He doesent usually feel like that. He doesent usually appreciate hugs this much. But something was still telling him to do it. So he did.
He immediately brought everyone into one big hug. He firmly grasped his arms around everyone in that big hug, stuffing his face into all of it, as if it was the last time he would ever do this (ill have to hold his hand while I say this..). Everyone joined in the hug after processing it. They practically looked like a giant ball while wrapping their arms around each other. Lapis embraced the warmth of his friends. closing his eyes (or lack thereof) to truly take it all in. Everyone was happy to just exist in this moment.
Well, they didnt really exist, truthfully.
The world swirled all around them, turning into just a void. Citrine, Zoisite, and Malachite were all sucked away, leaving lapis there. Everything distorted beyond recognition. Everything turned dark. Slowly, yet quickly, Lapis faded away with everything, and there was nothing left; not even his consciousness left. Now, Everything was nothing. But there was a light, fading out of the darkness. A blue light. Soon enough, it turned into a shapes you can comprehend. Lots of dark blue, thick lines, with blobs of a slightly lighter green on top of it, moving slightly. Everything seemed to have a dark lighting, with a bright, white circle being the only light source. Soon enough, everything was comprehensible. Those thick lines and blobs were trees. Everything was dark because it was night time. That circle was the moon. Lapis immediately got up from his previous position. He sees grass beneath his fingers when he looks down. He stares at his palms when finally understanding everything that just happened.
It was all just a dream.
His friends arent here with him.
He remebered everything that happened when putting himself together. During the corruption, when Blixer was awakened, he destroyed everything in his path, to get to the tree. His freinds were still in the trees home at that time. And blixer ripped the tree out, with them still inside. That was the day he lost his friends. His siblings. And had to fight the corruption all alone, as a solo, underdeveloped hero. If only he hadnt went with Aunt Cube to that cave, this wouldnt have happened. If he had came just in time to get his friends out there, or even convinced them to come with him, this would have never happened. Or atleast the corruption would have lasted for a shorter amount of time. Heck, he should have just stayed there instead of succumbing to his curiosity. Everything would be better that way.
He laid back down onto the grass, staring at the night sky. Everything just shocked him. Despite not getting much time to mourn his friends death due to the corruption, he pretty much had gotten over it. But this still made him feel helpless and devastated. It reminded him of how much he missed his friends. He even realized that he no longer remebers their voice. He wished they were still there with him. He wished the dream was real. He really did. But unfortunately, things dont always go your way..
Lapis let out a huge sigh. All he could do now is just lay there. And process everything. All alone, with no one to be with him.
I guess thats just how life goes with a Hero, right?
