Work Text:

“Told you so, Bamboo-senpai. It is now raining.”

Guess who is mad today.

Bamboo face-palmed.

The sky blackened and soon sprinkled its cry in no time. Raindrops dropped. Umbrellas popped. People were rushing to find a shelter while puddles had begun to form. The early summer rain had come before Bamboo even knew it.

Being able to spend, even the slightest, time with City is precious on its own. She is busy, super busy. The 100-years-once beauty is packed with a tight schedule, going from here and there, spending all her evening in the train ride to the point Bamboo had to beg to Fuji so she could unlock the dorm gate past curfew. The Demonic Chairman of the Public Moral Committee always has a soft spot for City's hard-working demeanor.

However, once in a blue moon, City loosened herself and took a breath in which Bamboo felt grateful for that.

Like this day, for example. The-supposedly-great small outing of theirs.

City actually had told her that the early summer rain would come much sooner than usual as the weather forecast said so, but Bamboo kept insisting to go for a date.

Before going back, it was enjoyable. City looked like she had fun while window shopping with Bamboo as her mix-matching mannequin as usual, then tried the newest viral roasted carrot stand that just opened a few days ago per Jordan’s recommendation from the other day. Then going for a walk around the park for their last destination.

Yet, the three goddesses forgot to sprinkle some good luck on them as the only sprinkle they got was ones that made their tails fully drenched under the green-striped umbrella.

They continued walking under the pitter-patter sound, hand-in-hand, beside the already-soaked primroses along the way. It only took 20 minutes to get back. Not too far, but the downpour made the walk seem like forever.

The big Ritto stood before their eyes. Windows started to emit light and almost no one's outside. Even without looking at the clock, Bamboo knew the curfew would start. Fuji might scold them again if she knew this, as Bamboo needed to be strict to City, just like how she is to others.

“If you hadn't brought your umbrella, we might've gotten scolded again!” Bamboo laughed. “Thanks, City! ”

“Hmph.”

“Wh— you’re still mad!?”

City tugged the hem of Bamboo's jacket, pulling Bamboo closer before leaning on her shoulder. The umbrella shook a bit, drops fell and soaked parts of Bamboo's bang as they were walking past the gate. At least, they were now safe from the curfew.

“You gotta give me something as an apology or I won’t talk to you for a while, senpai.”

Bamboo stopped her step.

“I’m just messing with you. I just wanna have a nice warm shower right now.”

“Okay City, what do you want?”

“I’m joking. Just a warm bath is enough for me.”

“You sure about that?”

Bamboo looked at her junior before giggling abruptly. She knew what to do. Easy. There was something that passed on her mind but... could she pull it off? At this time? While under the cold drips of rainfall?

No way, right?

Not until Bamboo took a heavy breath, and within seconds, she glanced over the golden hair with her ears dropping as she was pouting. They look cute, but they're not the main focus, Bamboo shook her head.

“City, sorry for today. I really thought the rainy season wouldn't come this fast so... here, my token of apology.”

Bamboo leaned her head closer to City’s ear before leaving a peck on her head. It was only a small kiss, but the tug on her left arm became tighter. That... probably surprised City a little.

“Even though the summer rain came this early, spending time with you was so so so much fun. Thank you, City!” Bamboo continued, now slowly caressing City's hair while smiling. She could hear the groan from the other girl before her head turned, now facing each other. Bamboo could clearly see the flush of red on her cheeks.

“...how could you say such... sweet stuff like that, Bamboo-senpai?”

“That's just how I feel!” Bamboo justified. “We don't usually have the chance to go out like this, right? I'm the chairman of the public moral committee, and you're busy with your modeling work. Our schedule didn't match! So… yeah at the same time I’m sorry that I insisted on going out with you today.”

City's eyes widened, then sighed.

Without warning, City drew closer before she took a step forward, placing her lips on Bamboo’s in which sent a sudden jolt on her back. Had she lost the grip of the umbrella, they would be completely drenched under the weeping night sky. Thankfully, Bamboo didn't loosen her grip, and nothing bad happened afterwards. Yet, her heartbeat was pounding like a jackhammer, more so when City's smile returned on her lips. If her heart had legs, it would speed up and accelerate out of her own chest.

She’s… beautiful. Everything about her. Even at a time like this.

“You really know how to make someone smile, don't ‘cha?” City chuckled, giving Bamboo a sense of warmness on her cheeks. “Thank you for today, Bamboo-senpai.”

The tears of the sky seemed to not be stopping anytime soon, but the time Bamboo spent in its early arrival would be a Memory she will always cherish.

Together, with the girl whom she loved dearly.

“Bamboo-san, it was quite the surprise for you to almost hit the curfew yesterday.”

The next afternoon, Yaeno came and sat beside Bamboo while bringing her lunch: a bowl of rice and a pile of hamburg steaks with a carrot stood in the middle. An almost full protein meal. Not surprising. That’s just Yaeno being Yaeno.

“Well that goes for you too, Yaeno! I know you spent almost all day inside the dojo this weekend 'cus I saw your girlfriends were going there too. Another package of homemade coconut drink, I'm guessing?” Bamboo giggled, then took a spoonful of spicy curry (in which she already knew she was bad at it) before noticing something. “Wait, how did you know?”

“Coconut smoothie made by Ardan-san with the help of Chiyono O-san, yes. Ah, about that...”

Her ears perked up. “What's up?”

“Last night, I saw Bamboo-san kissing City-san in front of the dorm gate. Am I wrong?”

Bamboo immediately dropped her spoon.

“Wait wait wait wait wait stop right here Yaeno you saw WHAT?”

Yaeno chuckled. “I passed by as soon as I came back from the gym with No Reason-san. Fret not, though. Hope you enjoyed the weekend, Bamboo-san.”
