Chapter 1: Detestation

Chapter Text

“Get back to your seat now students!” _ Miss Circle shouted at the students as she entered the classroom. The boisterous environment instantly disappeared. Everyone tried to dash to their seat as if they would be killed if they were 1 second slow.

After seeing all the kids having sat firmly, Miss Circle raised her voice again.

- I’m gonna talk about your exam last week, you all understand that this test accounts for 25% of your total scores.

She turned her eyes to the students who-are-not-really-good-at-studying. Abbie had been holding his breath since the moment Miss Circle entered the class, he was one of those who had a high chance of failing and being chased to death by this demonic teacher. However, Miss Circle just didn’t care about him and continued her speech.

- Luckily, no one failed this test, even the dumbest. I assume that I did quite a good job this time. _ Her voice was full of arrogance, making the students feel sick.

- And I would like to give a compliment to whoever got the absolute score in this test.

Oliver gave out a smirk, he knew that it could be no one else but him. When it came to math, Oliver always outsmarted the other. The lowest grade he had ever received was B, the grade that could be some highest. However, being too excellent in this subject made lots of students think that Oliver was some kind of teacher's pet. Oliver knew that but he didn’t give a damn shit, after all, those pests were just jealous of him. He didn’t even want to interact with students who are just able-to-pass, those who were just as pathetic as the students who failed. Two of his best friends are experts in some certain aspect, therefore, they became a trio in order to stay away from those mediocres

- Congratulations, Oliver…

He had been so familiar with this applause that he couldn’t feel proud anymore. Instead, a feeling of hatred was starting to rise in his chest.

- … and you too, Alice!

The sound of the applause became louder as her name was mentioned. Alice, his rival since the very first day at this school. Usually Oliver would have no hate toward outstanding students because they are just like him. However, Alice is the exception. Oliver couldn’t describe how much he hated that hypocrite. She is just like those maniacs, waiting for the perfect time to tore the prey apart. However, Alice didn’t act like a psychopath like the teachers, she was like that kind of warm-hearted girl who could make people fall in love easily, a poisonous flower that could immediately take the lives of those who dare to get close to witness its beauty.

- Okay let’s get back to our lesson.

The math teacher’s voice cut Oliver’s train of thought. He unconsciously looked at Alice sitting at the back of the class. Alice seemed to be aware that someone was looking at her, so she turned her head to Oliver's seat and gave out an industrial grin, which made Oliver want to vomit.

After hours studying math, literature, science, Oliver could finally take a lunch break. He got out of the classroom with a face that looked like he was willing to kill anyone who dared to get close to him. Zip and Edward, after seeing their friend like this, decided to retreat and let him go wherever he wanted.

- He seems to be really mad for some reason. _ Zip talked to the boy standing next to her.

- If it’s about Alice then we shouldn’t interrupt, they said “Curiosity kills the cat”. We are no cats.

- Yeah you are right, just leave him alone this time.

Finally here, his comfort zone, the rooftop. Students are not allowed to get up here, but Oliver got some tricks that helped him make the perfect copy of the key. Therefore, this is the most peaceful place in this school for Oliver, a place that can help him calm down and escape those stupid things in this school.

Oliver stood by the hedge, enjoying the fresh air and cool wind. When he thought he was completely alone, a sound came from the doorknob like somebody was trying to open it. Oliver was panicked, as what he knew, the janitor didn’t go to the rooftop at noon. Did the schedule change? It couldn’t be, he didn’t hear any information.

Oliver took a breath, trying to find a way to cope with this situation. Jumping off the roof wasn’t a wise decision, what about apologizing to the janitor, made up a tragic story so they could forgive you. Oliver imagined a lot of situations in his head when the door opened. However, the one who entered the rooftop wasn’t the janitor or any teacher.

 It was Alice.

This was way worse than what Oliver could think of, if this hypocrite knew about this place then he was completely doomed. Oliver gave Alice an aggressive look and raised his voice.

- What are you doing up here, “princess”?

Alice was aware that Oliver didn’t relish her appearance at all. Nevertheless, she didn’t care about the feelings of this impulsive boy. She was here for something interesting.

- Do you want to make a bet?

- What? _ Oliver was dumbfounded, this hypocrite got into his comfort zone and asked him to make a bet, what was she even thinking.

- So you see Oliver, we are both top students of the class, and it’s hard to tell who is better. So what about a bet on the last term exam? No one has ever got an absolute score on it and I think it’s worth a gamble.

- What makes you think I would agree?

- Your self-esteem?

Alice actually knew how to trigger people while using her soft voice. Oliver was no exception, he had been hating Alice for a long time and this bet was in fact a really good offer for an excellent student like him.

- What will happen if you lose?

- It depends on you, you can do whatever you want with me.

- And what if I lose?

- Well I'd rather keep my punishment a secret. It will be a better motivation for you, won't it?

Oliver burst out laughing while Alice was looking at him with a smile. He knew that this hypocrite didn’t try to itself anymore. After a minute of laughing, Oliver finally stopped and raised his hand toward Alice.

- Deal!

- My pleasure. _ Alice responded as she shook Oliver’s hand.
