Chapter Text
Prologue
Death. Destruction. Fire. This is what happened 5,000 years ago. There was a war between Earth and Martians. Unfortunately the humans didn’t have the technology to beat the Martian people. They possessed powerful weapons, and all the humans had was nuclear missile projectiles. Scientists spent years developing rockets to be able to unleash nuclear hell onto Mars, but they were too late. The Martians beat them to the punch. They came to Earth with thousands of ships. The humans were given the chance to surrender. They refused. Ten ships opened fire. Earth’s surface was almost completely decimated, leading the human race to the brink of extinction. However, a small group, maybe 300 or more, survived. They returned to the surface from their underground bunkers and tried to live, but the radiation was too much. They would have children, but the mothers would usually die shortly afterwards. However, this small population adapted and grew, slowly repopulating the Earth. In order to escape death by radiation, they adapted. They began to be born with abilities, born of the excess radiation. Some of these people have gone on to be great, others bad. Some are just normal people. They only remember this now because they have video footage from the war in 2040. Otherwise, it would be lost in the past, and they’d have no idea where their powers came from.
Closer to now, there had been a prophecy. It is said that a great hero will rise from the cosmos, his light a beautiful constellation, his heart bursting with a love and determination strong enough to overcome any evil. The Nebula will have an eye of blue, and the loyalty of a dog. He will come from the town of Umblerook and be peppered by freckles. He will put others before himself whenever the chance is given. His hair shall be darker than his complexion and shorter than his neck. Yet lurking in the shadows, a mighty force of darkness waits for the time when his stars dim and his soul is overcome with fear and doubt. The Burnout will have eyes of gray, and the coldness of ice. He shall control the shadows. The Nebula shall travel South with his three friends to find the Burnout, then the unexpected shall emerge. No one ever suspected the prophecy would come so close to now. Until darkness struck.
