Chapter Text
Akai Shuichi brought a hand to his chin, looking thoughtful. He had been observing his child's strange behavior for days and couldn't help but feel that something wasn't right.
"I'm home!" as with all previous afternoons, he heard that adorable little voice coming from the front door.
"Welcome!" and as usual, he saw that beautiful blond figure approaching the door to greet the little one.
Akai couldn't help but blink at the scene while a strange spark appeared in his green eyes. This scene had been repeating for days: his beloved and intelligent son always came home with a radiant smile on his pretty little face. To him, Conan was adorable, precious, and beautiful like no other, but…
"Mmm... What could it be?" he thought as he watched him happily chatter in the kitchen, accompanied by the second love of his life. The latter was offering his seven-year-old a piece of cake on a plate while telling him that dinner would be ready soon. "What is wrong?"
Because yes, something was wrong, and he wasn't talking about his beloved Rei, who, as Conan's mother, should be providing him with more nutritious food instead of pieces of cake, especially before dinner. No, definitely, none of that was the problem; it was that lately, Conan was literally coming home too happy from school when before he always had a bored and annoyed look, and sometimes even frustrated, because the classes were dull and boring due to his high IQ. His seven-year-old was much more intelligent than a thirty-year-old adult who had already finished university and graduate school, so regular school should have been a real torment for him.
Akai Shuichi always thought that his son, being considered a prodigy, could have gone directly to university, but his husband Rei fiercely opposed the idea, arguing that no one would take away their baby's childhood, as he wanted Conan to have a normal life and a childhood full of beautiful memories. At seven years old, the blond didn't want to burden him with the frustrations and stress of the adult world.
But Conan didn't seem to think the same as his mother, as he always came home from school in a bad mood and cursing life. Therefore, it was very strange that suddenly the whole situation changed and that little face was lit up with a beautiful smile, a situation with which Rei was delighted, thinking that his little one was finally fitting in.
"Go finish your homework, Conan," ordered the blond with a smile while supervising dinner.
"Yes, Mom!" replied the little one with his sweet and pretty voice as he headed to his room after finishing the cake.
"How's school?" asked Akai when he saw him pass by on his way to the stairs.
"It's a lot of fun, Dad!" he smiled, and Akai looked at those big blue eyes shining as sweet and pretty as a cuddly plush toy.
"Fun?" Shuichi repeated, looking at him strangely. Conan nodded his head in an adorable expression. "I always thought someone as smart as you would find it boring."
"Well..." Conan closed his eyes, and the sound of dishes being placed, courtesy of Rei, distracted him for a second. "That was before, now it's interesting."
Akai felt that the boy had evaded him a bit as he continued on to his bedroom, leaving him there.
The story repeated several times until the curiosity to know what made his child so happy filled him again and again. Well, there was also the fact that he hadn't received a single complaint from the principal in weeks. And it wasn't a secret that, due to his great frustration and boredom, Conan liked to play at bothering others. He liked to create chaos and all the mess he could entertain himself with for a while. Yes, his sweet and intelligent little angel was quite the demon of chaos. So the situation only puzzled him more and more each day.
Having no other choice, he decided to start investigating on his own, watching his child without him noticing. Every morning he drove his truck and followed the school bus, secretly observing every class and activity his son participated in, hoping to find the reason behind each of his little one's smiles.
Rei found the whole matter puzzling and looked very disapprovingly at his spouse for spying on their baby over absurd ideas, sometimes confronting him with small arguments that the green-eyed man always placated with deep and passionate kisses.
"If you ruin my son's happiness, I'll kill you," the blond had threatened after catching his breath, after the green-eyed one had cornered him in the kitchen, "did you hear me?"
But Akai Shuichi just smiled at him, assuring him he was only acting for their firstborn's well-being.
After a few days, when he was almost about to give up, Akai finally found the cause. And it had been so obvious all along that he mentally scolded himself for not noticing it earlier. And it was that he expected to find some hobby or activity as the cause of that beautiful smile and not… a person. And not just any person… but the new math teacher: Hattori Heiji. When he stopped looking for a 'what' and focused on a 'who,' he could notice the way his seven-year-old looked fascinated at that young man; a young man with green eyes, dark skin, and tall, somewhat attractive, and who seemed too young to be teaching.
When he investigated everything about that guy, he found out he was the principal's nephew, seventeen years old, and was just temporarily replacing the math teacher, who was on maternity leave. Akai couldn't help but notice that the dark-skinned boy's intelligence was above average, but being the center of attention of his beautiful son made him see him as a threat. And the dreamy and enamored look with which Conan observed him made it imperative to intervene in that situation.
For Akai Shuichi, that teacher was a threat that needed to disappear as soon as possible.

It had been a tough day for Hattori Heiji; controlling fifteen primary school children aged seven or eight wasn't, to be honest, easy at all. Each and every one of them was a 'beautiful' piece of work, especially one in particular.
Well, for now, it was all over, so, carrying a small briefcase, he walked to the school parking lot to find his motorcycle. But, he had barely taken two steps after finding the keys when he heard the screech of a vehicle that, if it weren't for his good reflexes, would have almost run him over.
He was bewildered, wondering what kind of lunatic could be behind the wheel when the vehicle returned, stopping right in front of him. He was about to step back and leave when the driver's window of that red truck started to descend. Hattori, the substitute math teacher, suddenly found himself with an inhospitable and piercing gaze coming from striking olive-green eyes. He blinked, not understanding, as the man in the vehicle narrowed his eyes while staring at him intently.
"Get in," ordered a dangerous deep voice while pointing a rifle at him. "Now."
Hattori Heiji didn't understand anything, all he knew was that his tough day had turned incredibly strange and dangerous.
