Work Text:
“He’s all done, Miss Fontaine.”
Furina looked up at the man, a nurse she assumed, who gestured towards the open door of the clinic. Neuvillette had gone through four wisdom tooth extractions and as his wife, Furina took off a day from work to personally take care of him.
She was also a bit excited to see Neuvillette high on anesthesia. That man had never drank a sip of alcohol and ever been delirious from a fever so this would be the closest that she’d ever get to a tipsy husband.
The nurse guided her to the room where Neuvillette was passed out on a reclined chair. The oral surgeon stood next to him and turned around when the door swung open.
“Hello, Miss Furina! Your husband did well and he should be waking up soon,” the woman told her. “I’ll give you the prescription for his pain medication and instructions for aftercare in the meantime.”
With that said, the surgeon gave her a rundown of the aftercare and handed her the necessary prescription.
“Let us know when he wakes up so we can discharge him. Take as much time as you need, okay?” Furina nodded and the doctor left with the nurse in tow.
Furina turned to her husband to finally get a good look at him. Neuvillette’s eyes were still closed and his bangs were still clipped back with the colorful hair pins she lent him. His mouth was slightly ajar from all the gauze stuffed inside to soak in the blood. Signs of minor swelling were already starting to show and she knew it would be more obvious later on. Overall he looked peaceful and a bit goofy with his open mouth and line of drool spilling out, but he looked as handsome as ever.
People tend to say that it was Neuvillette who got lucky with marrying an A list celebrity like Furina. Some also showed worry for Neuvillette due to the general outcome of many celebrity marriages.
But to Furina, Neuvillette was everything she ever wanted and more. He was smart, kind, and handsome, though beautiful would be a more accurate word due to his slightly feminine features. Furina was more famous than the two of them but Neuvillette was well known in his own field and had many high profile connections. It was through those connections that they ended up in the same party all those years ago.
Neuvillette looked somewhat cold and standoffish at first, but his eyes lit up at the sight of her. She still remembers it clearly. He was so shy upon meeting his favorite celebrity, but it was cute to see him hide his excitement. Furina loved his deep and soothing voice that carried so much emotion that was unlike his appearance.
He captured her curiosity and she wanted to know more. He took her advances like a gentleman and a year later they married. It was faster than the average couple but they were obsessed with each other. They still are to this day.
After reminiscing old memories, Furina took out her phone to take a quick photo of her husband. Neuvillette rarely had bad photos and even in this one he didn’t look as haggard as some of the ones he took of her when she was drunk out of her mind. She was tempted to make this her phone’s new wallpaper but her current ones were milestone photos. She settled for changing his contact photo.
After a while she noticed movement from the chair. Her husband groaned and then Furina was met with familiar lavender eyes.
Furina pulled her chair closer and caressed Neuvillette’s cheek. “Good morning, my dear sleepyhead. How do you feel?”
Neuvillette turned his head as she spoke up. He stared, saying nothing for a few seconds before his eyes widened in shock.
“Miss… Furina de Fontaine?!”
Furina was taken aback at the sound of her full name and the funny way his voice was slurred and muffled. It took a second for her to process what he said but Furina watched enough videos to know where this was going.
Oh, I’m going to have fun with this , she smirked internally.
Her husband struggled to get up and formally greet her, but he gave up and slumped back to his seat. “Miss Fontaine,” he started. “I apologize for my state, but to what do I owe the honor of your presence?”
“Oh dear, don’t try to get up. And to answer your question, I just wanted to make sure that you’re okay,” Furina softly told him.
Neuvillette furrowed his brows. “But… why? I am just one of your many fans. Surely I have not done anything that warrants your special attention.”
“Ah but you did!” she exclaimed. “You had to go through a horrible surgery. A wisdom tooth removal, and four of them at that. A dear fan of mine went through all of that and I just want to ensure that you’re alright.”
“I see…” Neuvillette contemplated. “The removal of wisdom is horrible indeed. I can’t imagine losing one, let alone four.”
Furina giggled at his ridiculous statement when he seemed genuinely disappointed. She always had fun teasing her husband. It was easy and she loved undoing his professional demeanor. Of course, he liked to humor her at times so he would usually go along with it until Furina undid him.
“Oh, Miss Fontaine, I’m honored that you saw the need to go that far. You are truly radiant both on the inside and the outside,” Neuvillette stated with such a soft and gentle gaze that made Furina’s heart melt.
“That I am,” Furina leaned closer. “I have to make sure that you’re well enough to care for your children.”
Neuvillette jolted in his seat and widened his eyes in surprise.
“My… children?”
“Yes, you have two beautiful daughters. They take after their equally beautiful father.”
Inside his mind, Neuvillette was processing that if he had children then that must mean he had a spouse. He wasn’t the type to have children without a spouse, adopted or not, but that would mean that he was able to love another aside from his favorite idol. And with the way that his heart still fluttered at the presence of Furina, he felt a bit guilty that he was having such feelings for someone other than the one he married. He can only hope– no he wouldn’t marry someone if they weren’t– that whoever he married was an equally obsessed Furina de Fontaine fan.
But going back to the last part, “You think I’m beautiful?”
Neuvillette’s blush was so incredibly cute that Furina wished that she caught it on camera. She contemplated whether to record it at all, but she wanted to focus on her husband. This was his first major surgery after all.
“Of course their mother is just as beautiful. Not only were they blessed with beauty, but they’re intelligent and talented.”
A wife then, and the children are biological. “She would be honored to hear those words from you,” Neuvillete had established that his wife has to be an equally big fan in order for him to marry her.
Furina simply smiled at him before picking something out of her pocket and grabbing his hand. Neuvillette’s face heated up at the contact. He then felt something small and cold and saw a ring on his palm when Furina pulled her hand back.
“Here’s your ring back by the way!” she said before pulling up her left hand. “It matches mine, see?”
Neuvillette tried to process her statement before coming to a “reasonable” conclusion.
“It seems that I got the same ring as my idol.”
Furina bit her lip to hold back her laughter. She then pulled out another object from her pocket and handed it to him. “And here’s your phone.”
His phone screen lit up as he took it from her hand. The wallpaper on the lock screen showed a photo of Furina and two young girls, both below the age of seven if he were to guess. He only managed to take a quick look at it before his phone unlocked at his facial recognition and pulled up his photo album.
It was filled with photos he had taken from his daily life. Most of them were of his (supposed) children, but as expected he had many of Furina’s as well. He didn’t recognize them from old photoshoots so they must have been new, but what surprised him the most was that she was often with his two kids.
“Are these my children?” He asked, not realizing that he didn't even recognize them but loved them all the same. “You took photos with us? I can’t believe this is real. There are so many of them… Miss Fontaine, my memory is a bit hazy as you can tell, but may I ask if we’re perhaps close to one another?”
The idea of befriending his favorite celebrity made his heart race. To have the opportunity to also have her in his family’s life would be beyond what he can ever ask for either.
Furina was smiling widely now and she tried to hide it with her hand. Her obvious amusement flew right over her husband’s head.
“We’re very close.”
Neuvillette sighed in relief that his bold assumption was true. “I am truly a lucky fan if you’re this well acquainted with even my children.”
“Well, I am their mother after all.”
…
Neuvillette’s eyes, which had closed when he relaxed back into his seat, shot open. Did he hear that right?
“You have children?!”
…
Hold on…
“MOTHER OF MY CHILDREN?!?”
Neuvillette was trying to piece together her words while Furina lost it.
Furina… his children… Furina is their mother… the mother of his children… His children are Furina’s… he and Furina have children… together… therefore he and Furina… are…
“MISS FURINA. WE’RE MARRIED?!”
“Yes, yes we are, Neuvi. I’m glad you finally put it together. I was worried that my husband had forgotten me and the children we made together,” Furina– his wife, Furina– said through her chuckles.
“Made together…
He and Furina had not just one, but two children. They created them, which means that they both…
Neuvillette’s thoughts procured forbidden images of Furina with far less clothing than she had on at the moment, followed by even more inappropriate ones that had her in the throes of pleasure. His face burned but his saving grace was the sight of Furina round with his child. That innocent image of her smiling up to him calmed him down a bit.
These had to be memories. He would never dare to picture his idol in such a manner had it not been real. The images were too vivid, too familiar, for it to have come from his imagination, and the fact that they were (most likely) real brought him unparalleled joy.
He ended up marrying his idol. He doesn’t know how in the world they could have met. They were both from very different worlds and it didn’t seem like there was any opportunity for them to ever cross paths. He wonders if it was a chance meeting that quickly transformed into something more, or if they developed a close bond through regular encounters.
Either way, the ring, photos, and nickname was enough to convince him. It felt surreal to have Furina de Fontaine sit before him, to hold his hand, to look at him with so much love that he could explode from the amount of affection it held. And it was all for him.
The nurse and surgeon likely heard his outburst from earlier because they finally returned to the room.
The doctor spoke up first. “Looks like the patient is doing well, I hope?”
Neuvillette lost track of their conversation as the other person who came in looked him over. He was lost in his thoughts as he stared at his wife– yes, Furina is his wife. His wife whom he started a family with.
“Wife…” he whispered despite the fingers grabbing the bloodied gauze from his mouth. It was replaced with fresh ones soon after.
The next thing he knows is that his chair is being reclined back upright and his wife was standing before him.
“Are you alright to go? Do you need more time?” she questioned him.
Mind now clearer, Neuvillette nodded. He let himself be guided into a car and buckled in by his beautiful wife. He was too busy staring at her the entire time that he failed to notice the drool that began to drip down his shirt. It was tinged with red and was sure to leave a stain.
Furina quickly began to wipe it off. “Hey, keep your drool in or you’ll ruin your shirt! It still has blood in it. We still have to pick some stuff up before we get home so hold it together please.”
“Yes, my wife,” he sighed dreamily.
Furina rolled her eyes as she closed the passenger door and made her way to the driver’s seat.
At the same time, Neuvillette noticed the drool that also spilled on his arm and went to lick it clean.
“Neuvi!” Furina had just buckled in when she pulled her husband’s arm away from his mouth. “You’re making such a mess!”
“I am cleaning my mess.”
The woman sighed and gave him her handkerchief for the rest of the ride.
Furina looked at him over one more time before leaning in to place a light kiss on his swollen cheek. “What am I going to do with you?”
“Take care of me, Miss Furina,” Neuvillette whined as Furina started the car.
“Drop the ‘miss’, Neuvi. I’m your wife, remember?”
“Yes, Lady Furina.”
“No, that’s not– let’s just get going, my dear Iudex.”
My dear Iudex. He never thought that his title would sound as sweet as it did coming from her lips. Though it didn’t really matter what she said. To him, her voice was a siren’s melody that he could never turn away from.
Neuvillette’s love struck expression would remain on his face as they made their way to the pharmacy and then again on the drive home. He doesn't remember anything between getting into the car and his children coming home from school. He does remember the entire conversation with Furina when he first woke up and the entire ordeal made him realize just how lucky he was to be living a life that he could only dream of.
Before Furina, he only lived to work. Neuvillette rarely socialized and was content with watching his favorite movies of Furina alone in his home. He was alone, but looking back at it now he must have overlooked how lonely he was due to his job.
But now he has a great work-life balance. He took his roles as a husband and a father seriously. It surely slowed down his career but he believed that he was fine with where he was. It wasn’t like he was that ambitious to reach his career goals in his thirties. He had time, but if he had to make a choice then he would always choose his family first.
Neuvillette lay on the couch and watched his children play in front of him. Furina covered him in a blanket after giving him his pain killers while his daughters brought him a stuffed otter “for support.” It felt nice to be loved by his family the same way that he loved them. He wouldn’t have it any other way.
