Work Text:

The day was definitely bringing interesting twists and turns for Hen and Karen, until that morning they thought they were making preparations for Toni's wedding, until Chim, Eddie and Buck showed up not knowing that what was planned next was a surprise for the girls, after a conversation with Toni about the events of the last few days and about forgiveness, Hen and Karen were now preparing for their not so planned wedding.

Karen was smiling from inside, watching Denny in his little suit help the guys from 118 finish tidying up the place and put details that represented them, Eddie and Buck had taken it upon themselves, under strict orders from Denny and Nia, to go pick up the wardrobe for the fiancées at their house, making sure they had no mistakes when they handed them their clothes to do the wardrobe change. Karen already had her white dress on, which she had picked out with her precious Nia. It was a fair exchange, Karen would pick out her daughter's dress and she would help Karen pick out her dress.

Earlier that day Hen had taken Denny with her to help her pick out her outfit as well, Karen didn't need to see it to know that her fiancée had chosen an outfit, she knew her very well.

A soft knock was heard at the door, letting out a sigh and smoothing her hands on the fabric of the dress Karen gestured for them to come in. The door opened awkwardly, revealing Nia in her beautiful pink dress, beside her were Chris and Eddie, Karen could do nothing but smile in happiness as she carefully bent down in front of the children while Eddie closed the door of the room and stood to one side of them. As Nia fell into her arms and hugged her, Chris pulled out a small box adorned with a white ribbon and gave it to Karen with a smile on his face.

"Dad and I picked it out for you this morning, we hope you like it," Chris said.

Opening the little box as the children watched, Karen's eyes sparkled when she saw the little charm inside, it was a heart that reflected various colors and looked very delicate, but what was a detail was the four figures of people on the chain, no doubt representing her little family. Nodding as she smiled, Karen pulled Chris to her to hug him, leaning her head towards Eddie, who was leaning against the wall next to them, to say a silent thank you, which he responded with a small smile.

Hen was nervous, and how could she not be, if she was about to marry the most wonderful and intelligent woman she had ever met in her life, Hen felt so lucky to have gone to the bar that night and secretly, very secretly, she thanked Chim for the blind date he had made for her and Karen, he definitely knew what was in that moment.

As she put on the last part of her suit, Hen smiled at her son, watching him arrange his tie on his own, as she had offered her help but Denny had shooed her away saying it was fine, that his uncle Buck had taught him how to tie a tie before. There was a knock at the door and when Hen opened it Chim was on the other side, his face too happy not to catch the smile, Denny rushed past them, warning that he would go and help the others finish tidying things up.

After closing the door behind them, Chim approached and hugged Hen tightly and letting out a sigh in turn, Hen hugged him back just as tightly, holding back tears behind her eyes, as she separated her best friend looked at her with a smile on his face.

"It's incredible that this day has come, you two deserve this happiness, I am so content for you."

"We are also so happy and surprised at the same time, I mean, this morning we were preparing for my mother's wedding and now, wow, I can't believe this is happening."

"Well, you'll see that everything will be perfect, now finish getting ready, I think Denny will be waiting for you and your fiancé to walk them down the aisle."

Hen nodded, with a smile on her face, she was about to close the door behind Chim when he turned to her again:" Oh, I almost forgot, this is for you." Chim took out a small brooch from his pocket, holding it out to Hen, the ornament was a dandelion with small sparkles. Hen nodded to Chim, motioning for him to help her put on the brooch, "Here, let me. These little things symbolize happiness and harmony, I had it saved for a special occasion and I think this moment deserves it."

Hen gently squeezed Chim's hands: "Thank you, Chim."

After that Chim walked away and left her to her own thoughts again, looking at herself in the mirror for the last time as she exploded with joy inside, Hen thought that the day had definitely taken a big turn from what she had planned and she couldn't be anything but happy about it.

Leaving the room and heading down the road to where Denny and Karen were waiting for her along with Nia, Hen couldn't help but think about how life was smiling on her, things with her mother had improved, her family had gotten bigger, her close friends were in a good place too and she and her fiancé were about to get married.

Taking one of Denny's hands as Nia began to walk, tossing the petals in her wake, Hen turned her gaze to Karen, meeting her fiancé's twin smile and a small "I love you" whispered between them as they walked down the aisle and into this new stage.
