“can i call you dad?”
“...what do you mean?”
ayumu’s white, silky hair was tied up into a bun, mostly because he wanted to know what it feels like to “not have hair poking his eyes.” he grinned a bit and looked behind the taller man, hanasu. they stood on a grassy, light green cliff that bounces off the sun’s rays that slowly turned a surreal orange as a sunset took place. no animals and insects were to be heard, and all they were left with was the soothing feeling of wind blowing through their hair and clothes.
“it’s not like you’re actually my dad. i mean, i do know my biological dad but…” his voice wandered off into the distance a bit.
“he’s gone, isn’t he?” hanasu whispered. although his tone was monotone, no obvious emotion in his voice was needed for ayumu to know that he sympathized with him, even for just a little.
“he is, yes,” ayumu answered, “but it’s fine. he’s high above watching me in heaven, so its fine. i love him very much.”
“so then, why should i be your dad?”
“you can be my other dad down on earth!”
“ayumu…” he sighed, crossing his arms, “i mean, i dont mind, its just-”
“yay! thanks, dad!”
“um, yes, you are welcome, son…?”
“son?!” ayumu stared at him in awe.
he was sure he saw the tiniest bit of blush on his cheeks. he was embarrassed, wasn’t he? ayumu, having a bit of fun, poked around with him.
“this is why i should call you dad! you see me as your son, don’t you?!?”
“d-” hanasu accidentally stuttered, “do not get too carried away, ayumu. i said that because you do see me as a dad.”
“sure,” ayumu chuckled, moving towards the end of the cliff, sitting down in front of the drowning sun.
“i have never properly watched the sunset in a long while,” ayumu admitted, his eyes set on the horizon, “it’s just been such a long time.”
“...”
“...”
“i miss him.”
“i do, too.”
“i miss them all, ayumu.”
“i do as well.”
hanasu walked closer to the edge, but he continued to stand. just like ayumu, he stared at the setting sun.
“i never thought i would be able to love anyone, ayumu.”
“...”
“i think… i love all my friends. i love everyone. they’re all so dear to me…”
ayumu nodded.
“i just. i just…” he gripped the side of his pants hard, to the point where his fist was shaking. shaking with emotion. shaking, just like a human.
ayumu stayed quiet. there were noises, but he preferred to stay quiet, leaving hanasu alone at figuring out his newfound feelings.
“it’s hurts. i just love him so much…”
“i wish,” ayumu blurted out suddenly, “i wish i knew him alot more. since he is my brother and everything.”
hanasu rubbed his eyes, hiccuping ever so often, ‘why do i love him, he’s just so… goddamn infuriating.”
“he’s like that, isn’t he,” ayumu sighed sentimentally, the sun beginning to disappear into the big, deep blue sea, “and he has so many flaws, yet, of course, he is still my brother. i wish we could have accepted our differences and been okay with each other. there’s so many things i do not know about him.”
“i love this feeling,” confessed hanasu he started to sob in the palm of his hand.
“it feels so good to cry. i love this feeling.”
“i miss him so much.”
“i love you, sousaku, i love you…”
he snorted while tear droplets fell through his hand and onto the grass below him. ayumu stood up and faced him, now bringing all his attention to him instead of the sun.
“it’s nice, isn’t it?”
“y-yeah, ahh…”
“dad, do you want a hug?”
“i do, um, yes…”
“it’s okay, dad, come here.”
ayumu took him in his arms.
nighttime awaits.
