Work Text:

In the bustling streets of Yokohama, where the rhythm of missions dictated every heartbeat, a rare calm had settled over the Port Mafia. Akutagawa, usually consumed by work and the weight of expectation, found himself with a rare day free of tasks.

Gin, ever perceptive of subtle shifts in mood, noticed his unusual lack of urgency. “Hey,” she said, her voice bright and teasing, “you look like you’re about to fall asleep standing up. Why don’t we do something… fun?”

Akutagawa arched an eyebrow, his usual stoic expression softening just slightly. “Fun? I fail to see the strategic advantage.”

“Strategy can wait,” Gin replied with a grin, flipping her glossy, pink-tinted hair over her shoulder. Her gothic gyaru style—a mix of black lace, chains, and oversized accessories—sparkled under the afternoon sun. “We’re going shopping. You need to expand your… aesthetic horizons.”

Akutagawa hesitated, his mind briefly flashing to his usual wardrobe of sharply tailored blacks and charcoal greys, all meticulously plain. Yet there was something in Gin’s determined smile that made refusal pointless. “Very well,” he said, voice low but carrying a note of curiosity. “Lead the way.”

The streets of Yokohama were alive with color and noise, but Gin navigated them like a conductor leading an orchestra. She dragged Akutagawa into a small boutique adorned with mirrors, chains, and dark velvet curtains. “First,” she said, pulling a sleek black jacket from the rack, “you’ll try this.”

Akutagawa regarded it critically, noting the subtle leather panels and asymmetrical cut. “It is… acceptable,” he muttered, though he allowed her to help him into it. The tailored trousers followed, perfectly complementing the jacket.

Gin clapped her hands, eyes sparkling. “Yes! That’s it! See? Even you can do more than just blend into shadows.”

Akutagawa looked at his reflection, noting a slight shift in himself—a subtle poise he hadn’t felt before. “It is… different,” he admitted. “I see your point. This… transformation. It is tolerable.”

Encouraged, Gin pulled more pieces from the racks—dark shirts with lace details, layered pants, boots with metallic accents. “Try it. You might actually look… terrifyingly cute,” she teased, her voice a mixture of mischief and admiration.

Akutagawa’s lips twitched, almost forming a smile. “Your enthusiasm is… excessive. But I shall indulge it.” He stepped into the fitting room, emerging minutes later in a dark, layered ensemble: a black lace shirt under a fitted vest, tight gothic trousers, and boots polished to a dull gleam.

Gin whistled softly, circling him. “You look… perfect. Exactly like you belong on the cover of some dark fantasy magazine.”

Akutagawa’s usual stoicism wavered. “I… do not recall asking for an evaluation.”

“Evaluations are included,” Gin said brightly, striking a pose in her own flamboyant gyaru attire, complete with chains dangling from her skirt and chunky platform boots. “Look at us! We could be twins of darkness. Gothic power couple material, don’t you think?”

For the first time in a long while, Akutagawa allowed himself a genuine chuckle—quiet, almost reluctant, but it reached his eyes. “I suppose… there is merit in… shared amusement.”

As the day waned, bags in hand, Akutagawa walked alongside Gin through the streets. The new outfits added a subtle weight to his presence—a confidence that had nothing to do with missions or fear, but with self-expression. Gin, radiant and triumphant, nudged him lightly.

“You did good today,” she said softly. “Not just with the clothes, but… with letting yourself enjoy it.”

Akutagawa’s gaze met hers briefly, and a faint smile played at the corners of his mouth. “Perhaps… indulging in the mundane… is not entirely without merit.”

Gin grinned, looping her arm through his. “Good. Now let’s find you something ridiculously over-the-top next time. You’d look amazing in chains, feathers, and maybe some dark glitter.”

Akutagawa simply shook his head, though the corner of his mouth quirked in silent agreement. For once, Yokohama’s darkness felt a little lighter—infused with laughter, fashion, and the unmistakable energy of Gin.
