Work Text:
Chae Song-Hwa and Oh Yun-Jin are cousins. They used to have quite good relations with each other since they were young. They grew up together, had the same primary and secondary schools, and were there for each other's youth. Even though they were only cousins, they also seemed to see each other as siblings and besties in their precious lives.
Recently, Yun-Jin was engaged to a pilot named Han Jung-Woo. Song-Hwa couldn't believe that her cousin was going into a marriage again after her first failed marriage. But, after meeting them for the first time, even for a short moment, she was happy with them and also glad to see the smile backed by Yun-Jin.
Today was the second time for Song-Hwa to meet the couple officially, together with Ik-Jun, which was his first. They were the first people to let Yun-Jin share her happiness before her other families. Their dinner went well, actually, for the beginning, but it started to get serious when Song-Hwa asked about some sensitive questions.
"I am glad to know that you guys were in a quite sweet and lovely relationship. However, Jung-Woo ssi, did you know Yun-Jinnie had a daughter far away in Toronto now with her father, which is Yun-Jin's ex-husband?" Song-Hwa felt the glare from Yun-Jin, but she didn't care about it. While, she just wanted to use her way to make sure that her beloved cousin had met a good man.
"Yah! Ik-Jun oppa also has a son, and now you are married to him and have a good relationship with the little boy, aren't you?" Yun-Jin was mad about Song-Hwa's question.
"Are they same? Probably no! I have known my son since the day he was born, but Jung-Woo ssi didn't know about your daughter's presence, despite what you had told him." Song-Hwa refuted.
Jung-Woo felt his fiancée would fight with her cousin. He held Yun-Jin's hand to calm her down and said something before the 'war' started. "I know what you were thinking about, Song-Hwa ssi, and for your question... Yes, I had already known the presence of our little Ye-Eun before we dated. Also, I had met her in real life. She was an angelic girl who is cute and kind."
Yun-Jin was touched by Jung-Woo's words, she turned her head to her fiance, going to cry. Meanwhile, Song-Hwa nodded, didn't really know if it was approval or something else. Ik-Jun sat there, watching the man with a friendly smile.
It was really a tough answer, but it seems like Song-Hwa was not going to let him go easily. "Did you know how her personality was when she was in her job? I mean, you know how ruthless she was when she met anything about money, right?"
"Stop it, Chae Song-Hwa! You are mean, and mind your own business, please!" Yun-Jin couldn't understand why she wanted to say that.
Song-Hwa knew that she was rude. She wanted to do—no, she must do that. She couldn't change Yun-Jin's personality, so she could only hope that Yun-Jin's partner would accept all of hers.
Jung-Woo had a small laugh when he heard the question. 'If Song-Hwa had known how they met, she probably wouldn't have asked such a question.' "Of course I do. Although it wasn't the right choice to do that, I know the real reason for her to do that. I also know that I can't change that immediately, but I can put in my effort together with her and bring our princess back from Toronto."
Song-Hwa finally gave a smile after asking such a tricky question.
Ik-Jun felt that it's his time to hear some 'gossip', so he asked, "Can I know how you guys met? I know it wasn't a good question to ask, but I was a bit curious since you two had different occupations, different hometowns, and also different personalities."
"Well..."
In Toronto Pearson International Airport.
Yun-Jin found that she had lost the doll that was gifted to her by her daughter somewhere else.
"Oh, my!" Yun-Jin tried to find it in her bag and also poured out all the things from her handbag, but still, the doll was nowhere to be seen. She got panicked; the doll was meaningful for her since it was a doll that symbolised her daughter. She couldn't lose it, just like her daughter.
Yun-Jin walked back to the place she went before, but she couldn't manage to find the doll. She nearly lost all her hopes, but suddenly she was reminded somewhere. She ran to the place that she thought of, but she didn't get to find it at the seat where she had sat. She collapsed, and suddenly a waiter walked to her and passed her a doll.
"Excuse me, are you finding this?" said the waiter.
Yun-Jin looked at the doll and took it. "Yes! Yes! Thank you so much!" she said, full of gratitude.
Yun-Jin had found the doll, but she was going to be late for her plane. Resignedly, she chose to walk the stairs, despite waiting for the lift. Although she had a heart for staying in Toronto for a longer time, her jobs needed her, so she had no choice and must be back in Korea that day. She ran through the stairs while holding the doll tight in her hand.
"Aish! Why is this wig so hard to get into?" Yun-Jin heard someone making complaints. She didn't pay too much attention to it and continued running up the stairs. Then she saw a man wearing a wig who seemed to be dressing himself into a woman.
Yun-Jin was in a hurry, but still, her professionalism stopped her halfway. She took out her phone without thinking for a second and tried to capture the scene.
"Yes! I am sure that I was born to be a reporter." She murmured. However, she had forgotten to turn her phone into silent mode. The click on her phone was heard by the man. Yun-Jin was shocked, just like the man, she didn't think more and started running downward.
"Hey! Stop there!" The man shouted while chasing Yun-Jin.
The man got to chase Yun-Jin, and he caught her wrist. Yun-Jin moaned about the pain.
"What are you doing just now?" Jung-Woo yelled. The man Yun-Jin caught was a pilot named Han Jung-Woo.
"I don't really know what you are saying, sir, and let go of me!" Yun-Jin struggled.
"I said, please delete what you have done just now!" Jung-Woo held her tighter.
"Ahh! Why do I need to hear what you say? Help! Anyone outside?" Yun-Jin started shouting for help, just pretending she was a victim.
"Stop shouting! You..." Jung-Woo covered her mouth while he got a message that he was going to be late on his work from his senior. He had to release the woman, say, "We will meet again next time!" and leave.
"We probably won't!" Yun-Jin shouted.
-
It was a habit routine for Han Jung-Woo to check the passengers before he went back to his place and got ready for flight. By the way, he named himself Han Jung-Mi, which he stole from his sister when he was in his profession. It was a long story about why he needed to be dressed up as a woman. As a human, he needed to get enough money to stay alive.
"I have told you I had no money! Don't use my daughter as a reason to take money from me! If you don't have the ability to take care of Ye-Eun, then you shouldn't fight for custody with me!" Jung-Woo heard a sound like someone was in a fight, and he worried that it must disturb other passengers, so he was going to know the score.
He saw that the person who was talking loudly on the phone was the person who had just caught him dressed as a woman. It probably wasn't an ideal way for him to talk to her directly, so he had to persuade the other staff to do that. Jung-Woo went back to his place after confirming the problem had settled.
Yun-Jin couldn't forget the scene when she caught a man changing himself into a woman. She kept looking at the photos she took, but she was dissatisfied with the only photos she got. She couldn't deny that it would be big news if she had investigated more about the man. However, there was only a small possibility for her to meet the same person again or get the chance to discover more about the man.
Since that man had distressed her for a few days and she couldn't do anything if she only had the photos on her phone, she decided to try her luck and went to the airport.
Yun-Jin dressed herself in a black hoodie, a black cap, a black mask, and sunglasses, just like a stalker. When she walked to the main entrance, she noticed a similar figure, and she found that it was the person she was finding. Her target was dressing himself right at that moment, that was also what she hoped to capture. She hid herself quickly, shooting the whole progress as the man turned himself into a woman.
She smiled with satisfaction while shooting. She believed that she was likely to get a high bonus after doing this, so she could take her loved one back to her side again more quickly in the future.
Jung-Woo got out of his car while Yun-Jin was packing her stuff. Jung-Woo walked her way, and Yun-Jin got shocked and thought that she had been caught. She took her things and faster ran past Jung-Woo regardless, but she dropped her purse accidentally without noticing.
Truth be told, Jung-Woo didn't recognise her, and he just wanted to walk to the employee's door. He picked up the purse that Yun-Jin dropped. "Hey, your purse..." He wants to catch up with her, but she seems to have run in a hurry, and Jung-Woo has to rush too, so he decided to pass it to the police station later after work.
Jung-Woo had no flight schedule for today, only a weekly routine meeting. He walked to the meeting room leisurely, since it still had at least one hour for the meeting to start. When he arrived at the room, he sat in his place and opened the purse he had picked just now to see whether there was any information for him to contact the owner.
The first thing he saw was a picture of a little girl wearing a yellow jacket, and her hand was holding a maple leaf. Then he found a name card.
"Oh Yun-Jin?" Jung-Woo murmured the name, and he also found a contact number on the card. He wasn't sure if the number belonged to the owner or the company of Oh Yun-Jin, so he left a message for the number.
Annyeonghasaeyo, I'm Han Jung-Mi. Oh Yun-Jin ssi just accidentally left her purse in the parking lot of the airport, and now the purse is with me. Please kindly contact me after seeing this message. Thank you!
-
"Please give me a cup of latte, thank you," Yun-Jin ordered.
"It total cost five thousand won. Please scan your card here for payment."
Yun-Jin reached into her pocket and found nothing. She turned his pockets inside out in search of her purse, but still found nothing. She was forced to cancel her order and excuse herself for searching her purse. Yun-Jin had no idea where her purse dropped, so she just walked along the place she had been.
Then she received the message from a stranger named Han Jung-Mi.
"Parking lot, airport, by any chance..." She didn't really know who Han Jung-Mi was, but she inferred that the stranger might be the person she stalked just now. She needs to get her purse back, but she is probably not meeting the person directly.
So Yun-Jin had a thought.
"Annyeonghasaeyo, this is Oh Yun-Jin's phone, but now Kim Woo-Sung is talking with you. My senior is busy with her job now, so I will be the one who gets back her purse later, ma'am." Yun-Jin's thought was to let her junior, Woo-Sung, get back the purse for her.
"Do you have time later? About an hour later, just come to the airport lobby, and I will pass you the purse," Jung-Woo said.
"Yes, I do. So, we will meet an hour later at the airport lobby. Thank you again for your kindness in helping my senior get her purse back."
"No, not a problem," Jung-Woo replied, hanging up the phone.
After the phone hung, Woo-Sung passed Yun-Jin her phone.
"I will send you her phone number later, and remember to contact me when you have my purse back. Right, you can claim the transport fees from me after you get back. Thanks again," said Yun-Jin.
"Glad I could help, but are you busy later? I don't think we have anything to be done with," Woo-Sung asked with curiosity.
"I just have personal stuff to be done with. I sent you the phone number." Yun-Jin patted her junior's arm in appreciation.
"I had arrived, Han Jung-Mi ssi. Someone who is wearing a floral midi dress... Oh, I saw you. Here!" Woo-Sung waved to Jung-Woo, who was standing near the information counter.
"Are you Han Jung-Mi? I'm Kim Woo-Sung. Thank you for picking up my senior's purse, since inside there is something that is important to her. I thank you on behalf of her." Woo-Sung bowed to Jung-Woo.
Actually, Yun-Jin was nowhere around the corner and had seen the whole situation. She was totally sure that the 'woman' was the person she caught and felt fortunately for not going herself to get back the purse. She got a little distracted and couldn't find them when she had focused back. She looked around but still couldn't find them.
"Senior?" Yun-Jin got shocked by a sound.
"Aishh, you startled me," said Yun-Jin.
"This is your purse. I thought you had your personal stuff to be done with." Woo-Sung gave the purse back and looked at his senior.
"Thank you. Ah, it got done early, so I came." Yun-Jin didn't know how to explain in detail, so she just let it go.
"But the way, do you know Han Jung-Mi ssi?" asked Woo-Sung.
"No! Why?" Yun-Jin strongly opposed it, which had scared her junior.
"I'm just asking, there's no need to be a big reaction."
"My reaction was too big. Sorry. I don't know her, why?" Yun-Jin replied.
"That's too bad. Han Jung-Mi is pretty. I just want to see whether I had the opportunity to know about her or not." Woo-Sung sighed.
"It's okay. Your destiny will prove everything." Yun-Jin gave a fake laugh to Woo-Sung and thought, 'If he knows the truth'.
"Let's go. Since you had done me a big favour, as a senior, let me treat you a big!" Yun-Jin dragged Woo-Sung, who was still infatuated by the 'woman' he met just now.
"But..." Woo-Sung seems to have something to say.
"No excuse, just do what the senior has told you." Yun-Jin brought Woo-Sung with her to the parking lot.
Yun-Jin decided to hold off on the news about 'a man disguising himself as a woman.' She didn't have enough information to write and publish the story.
She knew the man's name was Han Jung-Woo. He was a star pilot who had lost his job. To continue working as a pilot, he disguised himself as a woman and used the name Han Jung-Mi. However, these details alone weren't enough to make the story newsworthy.
Jung-Woo's actions had also affected Yun-Jin's thoughts. He had returned her purse without stealing anything or taking any of her personal information. While this might seem like normal behaviour, Yun-Jin saw it as a rare act of integrity.
-
Yun-Jin had been volunteering at an old folks' home, visiting nearly once a month. Initially, her motivation was to catch some gossip from the elders, but over time, she found it enjoyable and meaningful, making it a routine part of her life.
One weekend, Yun-Jin visited the home again. She spent her time cleaning, talking with the elders, and fixing broken things, as usual. That evening, she saw someone she may have known. This person brought many supplies to the home and had a friendly chat with the principal, showing they had known each other for a long time. When the person came nearer to her, she was sure that the person was the one she thought of.
"Imo nim, who is he? This is the first time I saw him." Even though Yun-Jin was sure of the identity of the person she saw, she decided to have a small talk with the principal, who may reveal more about that person to her.
"Ah, Jung-Woo? Why? Are you interested in him?" asked the principal.
"Emmm... maybe a little?" She has to give an answer like that to get more information from the principal.
"That kid is named Han Jung-woo, and I heard he is a star pilot. His house..." The principal started to pour out what she knew about Jung-Woo, which had achieved Yun-Jin's purpose.
"Imo nim, let's talk over a cup of tea." Yun-Jin pushed the principal to have a tea together.
"Grow in his aunt's care? How about his parents?" Yun-Jin dropped a doubt.
"What can it be? His parents had divorced and left him and his sister," said the principal.
"Sister? You said he got a sister?" Yun-Jin couldn't believe what she had heard.
"Yes, he has a sister. They are siblings as thick as thieves. They have lived together until now." The principal took a sip of the tea.
"Perhaps, by any chance, is his sister's name Jung-Mi?" Yun-Jin asked.
"Yes. How did you know that?"
"Ah, I have a friend named Jung-Mi, so I just guess it." Yun-Jin raised her brow as she got more confused.
"By the way, do you have a picture of his sister? I am curious about whether she is the friend I am thinking of or not." Yun-Jin continued.
Yun-Jin got more and more confused when she got the photo of Jung-Woo's sister.
"This was totally different from the one I met." She murmured. Her mind started to sort out the information she had as she continued to hear the siblings story from the principal. Finally, she had organised a plausible explanation.
Yun-Jin had concluded that Jung-woo was a star pilot, but he got fired. To continue himself in the profession, he used his sister's name and turned himself into a woman, just as she had caught.
Even though she finally managed to get a full explanation, she was determined to turn down her thoughts. Yun-Jin was sorry for what Jung-Woo had experienced and also lamented his big heart as a professional pilot, a brother, and a nephew.
At the same time, she planned to give an apology to Jung-Woo.
"Hey!" Yun-Jin called Jung-Woo, who was watering the plants in the garden.
Jung-Woo turned around with a smiley face but quickly turned down when he recognised the unexpected guest. He chose not to watch her face, reminded of what had happened in Toronto.
"Do you have some free time later?" Yun-Jin asked, even though Jung-Woo didn't give her any reaction.
"Probably yes? What do you want?" Jung-Woo was not being friendly to Yun-Jin, since he thought there was no need to.
"Let's have a coffee then. I'll treat you." Yun-Jin tried to read his expression through his poked face.
"Why do I need to have coffee time with you?" said Jung-Woo.
"I think it's because we had a fate," said Yun-Jin.
"I don't think this is called serendipity," refuted Jung-Woo. He started walking away to another place.
Yun-Jin watched Jung-Woo walked away and shouted, "It's something about the things before! It's up to you to decide whether to go or not! I will only wait for you at the cafe in front of this house for half an hour!"
Yun-Jin had been waiting at the cafe for nearly half an hour. She had organised what to say as an apology, but she couldn't find the figure she was waiting for. As she was going to give up and leave, Jung-Woo pushed the door in the cafe. She waved to him merrily, but he walked to her with a dirty look.
Jung-Woo had been taking a seat while the waiter came to ask for an order.
"Give me a cup of latte," ordered Yun-Jin.
"It's ok." Yun-Jin was mad about Jung-Woo's attitude, but she had to put up with it since she needed to amend later.
"Just give us two cups of latte. Thank you."
"You said that you had something to say. Be fast. I don't feel like staying with you," said Jung-Woo, while not even giving a look to Yun-Jin.
"I am very sorry, Han Jung-Woo ssi." Jung-Woo gave a shock look when Yun-Jin called his full name.
Yun-Jin continued, "I had done a little research on you after we met in Toronto. I had been thinking of using you as a spot for my passage, but since I couldn't find more about you, I just put it aside."
"Also, I had asked the principal about you just now. I admit that I used the principal to get to know you more so I could help with my job. However, I stopped thinking after I heard your situation, and I can infer the reason for you to do that. I apologise for the inconvenience." Yun-Jin made a small bow to Jun-Woo.
"Why are you telling me that? Do you think that was valued for me?" Jung-Woo crossed his arm.
"Han Jung-Woo ssi..." Yun-Jin was nearly mad again while her phone rang. She excused herself from their conversation and picked up the phone.
"Ye... why are you? Where is Ye-Eun? Sir, for your information, we were divorced." Yun-Jin's words arouse Jung-Woo's curiosity.
"The amount I sent to you monthly was for the maintenance of my daughter, Ye-Eun, not for your personal use! I didn't have the responsibility for your personal life! I will get back custody of Ye-Eun someday, get ready for yourself. Also, please don't call me again, except for the call from my Ye-Eun!" Yun-Jin hung up the phone and sighed.
Jung-Woo took a sip of the latte, which had just been served by the waiter, while Yun-Jin was still on the call.
"Toronto, ex-husband, daughter." Jung-Woo murmured, but got heard by Yun-Jin.
Yun-Jin wasn't the type to share about her life, but she felt the intimacy from Jung-Woo to talk about her.
"My daughter is now with her father in Toronto," said Yun-Jin.
"You probably missed her a lot. Why didn't you fight for her custody?" Jung-Woo watched her with pity.
"That needed a lot of money," explained Yun-Jin.
"That's why you work unscrupolously."
"Yes. I apologise again for what I have done to you. I will give you back what I have about you, it's up to you..."
"It's ok. You no need to give them back to me." Jung-Woo had a good idea.
"Pardon?" Yun-Jin was shocked by Jung-Woo's answer.
"You just keep them first. I would like to make a collaboration with you in which we do an interview about me and I tell the inside story about the airlines. How do you think?" Jung-Woo sent her a smile.
"Real? Are you sure you are willing to help me?" Yun-Jin couldn't believe it.
"Take it or leave it," said Jung-Woo.
"I will take it! Thank you very much! I really appreciate your assistance with this! I owe you a big one, next time I will treat you!" Yun-Jin gave a skip of joy.
"It's unnecessary to give me any treats. Let us just make a friend." Jung-Woo found Yun-Jin's interesting.
"No problem! I am Oh Yun-Jin, nice to meet you." Yun-Jin reached out her hand to Jung-Woo.
"Nice to meet you too! I am Han Jung-Woo. Ah, sometimes Han Jung-Mi." Jung-Woo reached out his hand to Yun-Jin.
"... and this is how we turned into friends from a stranger, also an enemy, somehow."
"What a tendy drama encounter," said Ik-Jun.
"What 'tendy drama'? Yah, Oh Yun-Jin, how come you..." Song-Hwa felt embarrassment for her cousin.
"You should be glad that we are willing to share our story with you! Not to blame me after all!" Yun-Jin exclaimed.
Song-Hwa's phone rang. "Hey, I will be back soon," Song-Hwa packed her things after hung up the call.
"I got an emergency call. We will talk and meet again next time. By the way, it's very nice to meet you formally, Jung-Woo ssi. See you guys next time!" Song-Hwa walked through the door.
"We got to go now." Ik-Jun smiled at the engaged couple, picked up Song-Hwa's jacket, and followed her back.
"I can't deny that we met each other in a dramatic way. Do you think there is a production team that is interested in our story? I feel like we can make a fortune," said Yun-Jin.
"Your latte is going to be cold, jagiya." Jung-Woo looked at Yun-Jin fondly.
