The Princess and her Knight in the Battlefield (SHINSENA)

Chapter 1: Her Independence and His Resilience

Her whole life, Kobayakawa Sena is considered a gopher. Girl or woman she might be, bullies find her someone easy to consider as their target due to her very timid nature. That always ended up with her childhood friend and sister-figure Anezaki Mamori to protect her from the bullies but that ended once the girl had to move to a middle school for her studies and again she was victimized by the bullies. Once during his elementary days, a friend taught her how to run as a way to at least fight or maybe just get out of the bullies sight for her own sake. Her life was nice when that friend came to her life but it ended up short due to that friend having to move to another place due to his parents and once again she was left in the hands of the bullies and became their gopher for a long while and it lasted until her last day of being a middle school student.

“Sena! Congratulations! You’re going to be a highschool student!!” Her childhood friend, Mamori exclaimed as she gave her a huge hug on her graduation ceremony as Sena just laughed softly at her sister-figure’s antics as she faced her parents.

“Congratulations Sena, We are so proud of you” Sena’s Father, Shuma Kobayakawa stated making Sena smile.

“Thank you, Dad” Sena said as the family smiled and as soon as the ceremony was dismissed the family head to a restaurant to celebrate Sena’s last day as a middle school student.

“So Sena, Have you thought of the school that you would be going to?” Her mother, Mihae Kobayakawa asked her daughter during the meal making Sena pause and look at her mother.

“I-I think so, Normally I would love to go to Deimon where Mamori-neechan is but since I’m not a kid anymore I think I would go somewhere else.” Sena replied with a little stutter at first but continued her sentence with confidence making her parents and sister-figure shock.

“Sena…Are you sure about this?” Shuma, Sena’s father asked as he looked at his daughter with a contemplating look on his face.

“Y-Yes, I can’t stay behind Mamori-neechan’s shadow forever. I have to live my life to the fullest and the first step to that is to get out of the protective shell of my childhood best friend.” Sena replied as Shuma smiled.

“Then I won’t object, you can tell us which school you want to go few days from now. But just in case you can go take the Deimon exam as well” Shuma stated as Mihae looked between her husband and daughter and just chuckled.

“There is nothing I can do to change that fact then, Sena make sure to choose a school which is somewhat near our house and of course has a nice reputation.” Mihae said as she reminded her daughter about the main purpose of looking into schools, earning a nod from their daughter.

“Of course, Thank you Mom and Dad” Sena happily exclaimed as she heard a sigh beside her making her look at her sister-figure who looked at her with a sad smile.

“I guess I can’t do anything about that, I will definitely miss going to the same school as you. But I will trust your judgement and it is a good thing that you are starting to get independent and I’m proud of you” Mamori said as Sena’s smile widen.

“BUT! If there is anything or something entirely wrong! Make sure to call me or your parents, right?” Mamori added making Sena sweat drop but nods nonetheless.

“I-I will” Sena replied with an awkward laugh as her parents laughs in the background as they decided that it was time to change topic and change the topic they did as Sena happily chatted with her parents and her childhood friend.

After their idle chatter and finishing the food on their plates, Sena’s parents paid for their food and the four headed towards the parking lot to get in the car and head back to their respective homes to take a rest after the long day.

Sena watches the car pass by and her eyes came across a figure jogging towards the direction where they came from making Sena wonder why they jog this late but before she can see more of this figure, they were already out of sight making Sena sigh as she faced the front again causing Mamori to tilt her head in confusion as Sena just dismissed her question as she just laughs tiredly and just keep her thoughts at bay.

The four arrived in front of the Kobayakawa Residence making Mamori thank the Kobayakawa Couple and said a goodbye to Sena as she heads towards her own home which is just the house beside the family of three. As Sena and her parents head inside of their house, Sena immediately excused herself as she heads to her own room and started to change out of her school uniform and into her comfy pajamas and lays down on her bed as she looks up at the ceiling and sighs.

“The first step went well than I thought, Now I just need to find the school I would be going to” Sena mumbled to herself as she faced her right side to find some list of high school she had in mind and Sena already found the name that always takes her interest due to hearing some great things about it.

Ojo High School

“I’ll tell mom and dad tomorrow before dad heads to work. Everyone is definitely tired for the day so that’s the best thing to do at the moment” Sena thought as she closed her night light and closed her eyes with a small smile excited as to what Ojo has in for her.

The next day

Sena woke up without the help of the alarm clock and looked at the time to see that it was still 6:00 AM and her dad will leave for work at 8:00 AM so that means she still got two hours to tell her parents at the same time about her decision to go to Ojo.

Sena heads down the stairs and heads to the bathroom to brush her teeth and start the day productively and started to cook her family breakfast smiling knowing her mom would be proud to find her daughter cooking her food.

“W-What is this smell?” She heard a voice called from the living room making Sena smile as she starts to put the breakfast on the dining table and as she expected, her mother and father looked shocked to see her awake and cooking.

“Good Morning Mom, Good Morning Dad. I cooked breakfast so why don’t you too just clean your face up so we could eat now.” Sena happily greeted as her father just chuckled and tapped his wife’s back.

“Come on, Let’s enjoy this while we can” Shuma told his wife who remains speechless for a few more minutes before following her husband to the sink to wash their hands and their faces to come back to see Sena pouring herself and what seems to be their cups some tea making the mother try hard not to start making fish noises again as Shuma just laughs softly.

“How many more times are you going to do this? You’re killing your own mother” Shuma commented as Sena chuckles.

“Well, I woke up early so I thought as a start to being independent I would cook us breakfast. This would only happen when I wake up early so don’t expect this to happen frequently” Sena stated as the parents nodded as they take a bite of the breakfast and hummed in content.

“Not bad, I guess Mamori taught you how to cook whenever she had time” Mihae said with a smile on her face as Sena nodded.

“Yep, I’m glad you like it. Also I already decided what school I would like to go to for high school” Sena added as the two parents were now curious.

“Hmm, then what are you waiting for? Tell us” Shuma said as Sena smiles and takes a seat across her parents who were happily eating the breakfast she cooked and smile bright.

“I decided to go to Ojo High” Sena said making her mom pause as her eyes widen.

“Ojo? Isn’t that quite far?” Her mom asked as Sena shook her head.

“I can just go ride a train to Ojo and walk from there.” Sena replied as Shuma nodded.

“She’s right, I like the choice of school Sena. I heard a lot of good things in Ojo” Shuma commented as Sena nodded.

“That’s why I would like to join Ojo” Sena stated as her mother just smiled.

“Okay then, I guess since your father approves I would as well. But remember Sena, if there is ever anything bad happening tell us okay?” Her mother said as Sena laughs nervously and nodded.

“Okay then, Do you know when the entrance exam to Ojo is going to happen?” Shuma asked as Sena smiled.

“It will happen two weeks from now, Since the school year for Ojo would end next week.” Sena replied as Shuma nodded.

“Make sure to study so you can pass the exam, You know you can always ask Mamori to help you study” Shuma said as he grabs his coat and heads out but not before giving Sena and his wife a kiss on the cheeks.

“How about we go and check Ojo next week so we can register you in the exam?” Mihae suggested to her daughter who nodded happily as the Kobayakawa Residence were full of idle chatter between the Mother and the Daughter.

While in Ojo High School, a dark-haired young man was currently in the school’s gym and is lifting up some weights. As he deemed his exercise to be enough for the time he puts the weights down and sat up and grabbed a bottle of water from his bag and started to drink.

“Early Training as always I see” A voice called towards the young man to see the coach of his football club approach him.

“Yes sir, it is very efficient especially if you are training to be stronger.” Shin stated as the couch Shoji chuckles.

“Well, it is indeed efficient but I suggest that you should also take some well deserve rest.” Shoji said as Shin just slowly nodded.

“We will be taking some new members from the upcoming freshmen. So if you see some talent among them just approach me and I’ll consider it.” Shoji added before leaving the young man alone.

As Shin was left alone the young man sighs and looked down at his hands and clenched them.

‘I have to continue this vigorous training…no matter what others say…to defeat him…I have to get stronger’ Shin thought before standing up and grabbed his bag and headed towards his first class of the day but not before wearing his school uniform.

The day passed quite fast as Shin exits his classroom alongside his teammate and friend Sakuraba Haruto a model from Jari-Pro he is very famous among women and maybe even a few men. He doesn’t really like that much attention as it seems to be and being called the ace of team by his fans made him feel more anxious as he knew that Shin was the real ace of their team due to his strength and speed.

As the two head towards the football clubroom they came across a familiar female figure who was waving at them.

“Shin!! Sakuraba!! Hurry!! The coach is having a meeting today!!” Wakana Koharu, their club manager exclaimed as Shin and Sakuraba then started to walk faster towards the girl who smiled at them and leads them towards their football field to reveal everyone else there.

“Shin! Sakuraba! Hurry and Join the crowd!” The coach exclaimed making Shin and Sakuraba immediately runs towards the last row of students as the coach scans the group and see that everyone is here.

“Since everyone is here, I want everyone to be reminded that we will be recruiting freshmen students. As soon as you guys see potential in them take them to the football field and ask them to do a 40-yard dash.” The coach stated making everyone nod and the coach looks at Shin.

“Shin…Anyone who have taken your interest would be the most greatest asset in our team. So if you ever see anyone with significant strength or speed make sure to not use your spear tackle and bring them here for the 40-yard dash.” The coach said to the young man who nodded.

“Okay then, change into your gear and practice your hardest because after today…I will let everyone head to rest until enrollment.” The coach said as Wakana who approaches him nodded.

“Everyone needs their rest, But remember to still train your body somehow or somewhat. Shin! You better lessen your training a little bit since we are giving you guys a week off for your body to rest.” Wakana said as she gave the young man a pointed look making him sigh.

“I will try to lessen them by going to the gym just four times a week but I will remain my jog routine.” Shin said making Wakana sigh and smile a little bit.

“That’s good enough, Also eat more meat alright?” Waka said like she is a caring mother to the young man making everyone just smile as Shin just nods before everyone heads to the changing room to change into their football attire as the Ojo White Knights practice their all and separated at 7 PM where Shin jogs home and the others used a cab or walk to their homes.

Chapter Text

It was two days before Sena and Her parents would visit Ojo to register for the entrance exam on the next week and Sena is going on an errand to buy some few things. Instead of taking a cab she decided to jog the whole way to the store which was close enough to not need a cab.

As she arrives in front of the store she was immediately with a smile from the store owner recognizing her.

“Ah! Sena-chan, Doing some errands for Mihae I see” The woman said as Sena just laughed softly.

“Y-Yes, I would like some…” Sena listed off the names of the things or ingredients that her mother gave her to buy making the store owner nod after taking note of what was being asked.

“Okay, I’ll be back with everything you need in 10 minutes.” The store owner said as Sena just nodded and takes a seat on the bench that was meant for customers to sit on just in case of the situation of waiting for the products.

As Sena was waiting for the store owner to come back, she saw a man in a hoodie jogging towards her as the man stopped and looked between her and the store.

“Is the store closed?” The man asked as he takes off his hoodie revealing his blue locks as he looks at Sena who shakes her head.

“N-No, Ms. Rina just went to grab the things I asked for. S-She should be back 5 minutes from now.” Sena replied as the young man nodded and takes a seat across from her.

No one made a move to make a conversation since it wasn’t really that necessary but Sena feels very uncomfortable.

“S-So, D-Do you come around here often?” Sena stuttered as the young man looked at him.

“Yes, I always jog at this area and when I think I need to have something to drink I always come to this store. What about you?” The young man replied as Sena smiled at him.

“Well, I live around the neighborhood and my mom asked me to go buy some groceries so I came here. This only happens like once a week.” Sena replied to the young man’s question as he nodded.

Once again the silence takes over and thank goodness the store owner came back and as soon as her eyes landed on the young man across Sena she smiled.

“Ah! Seijuuro, Came here for water huh?” The store owner asked as the man now named Seijuuro nodded.

“Here Sena-chan, I’ll be back with your water Seijuuro” The store owner said as she went back to where she came from not giving Sena any time to give her payment making Sena sigh.

“Are you perhaps in a hurry?” Seijuuro asked as Sena smiled sadly.

“Y-Yeah, My Mom doesn’t want me to go out for so long by myself unless I’m with someone she can trust.” Sena replied as Seijuuro nodded.

Before silence could surround them again Sena looked at the man and smiled.

“Y-Your name is Seijuuro, am I right?” Sena asked as the man Seijuuro nodded.

“Yes, Shin Seijuuro. That’s my name” Seijuuro replied as Sena smiled.

“I’m Kobayakawa Sena, You can call me Sena. Shin-san” Sena introduced herself as Shin nodded slowly.

“Since I’m going to call you Sena…I think it’s also proper for you to call me Seijuuro” Shin stated as Sena blushed.

“E-Eh, I-Is that okay?” Sena asked shocked.

“Yes” Shin replied as Sena’s blush calms down and smiled at him.

“Then, It’s nice to meet you…Seijuuro” doki. Seijuuro felt something jump on his chest as he looked at Sena smiling normally he would recognize a person through their muscles but for some reason the first thing that Shin recognize on this woman is her face which Shin cannot describe since he wouldn’t normally think of a face of someone that important.

Sena looked at Seijuuro who seems to be frozen making her frown in worry as she approaches the man and waved her hand on his face.

“S-Seijuuro, Earth to Seijuuro” She called making Shin get out of his thoughts to see that Sena was in front of him.

‘I better ask Sakuraba about this feeling’ Shin thought as Sena backed away to give him space.

“Is there something wrong? S-Seijuuro-san” Sena asked as Shin then paused.

“Just call me Seijuuro, No honorifics Sena” Shin said making Sena blush.

“B-But, you are older than me. I cannot just call you by name” Sena said trying to get the man to consider but Shin shook his head.

“No, Just Seijuuro…We are friends right?” Seijuuro pause at his own question.  Unknown to him Sena’s eyes widen.

‘We only met today…but he already intends to be my friend?’ Sena thought as tears started to gather in her eyes and Shin noticed.

“Sena, Is something wrong?” Shin asked kind of frantically not knowing why he was acting like this around her.

“N-No, Nothing is wrong S-Seijuuro. I’m just happy.” Sena replied making Shin confused.

“Your happy? But your crying” Shin asked as Sena chuckles.

“Have you not heard about tears of Joy? These are tears due to happiness. I’m just happy I got a new friend although we only met for a short time.” Sena replied as she wipes her tears as Shin just nodded not knowing what to say to what just happened and before an awkward silence start the store owner came back.

“Here is your drink Seijuur- Am I interrupting something?” The store owner asked as Sena shakes her head.

“N-No, here is my payment for the groceries” Sena replied to the woman and gave her the money her mother had given her and the store owner smiled.

“Here is your change” The store owner said after grabbing the change for the money that Sena had given.

Shin handed the store owner the exact payment for the bottle of water and started to drink it and Sena just waited until he finished drinking.

“Sena” Shin called making Sena squeak before facing the older boy.

“What is it? Seijuuro?” Sena asked as Shin faced her.

“You’re going to be a first-year high school student am I right?” Shin asked as Sena nodded.

“Then which school do you plan on enrolling?” Shin asked as Sena looked at her bag of groceries and looked up with a smile.

“I decided to go to Ojo Highschool” Sena replied as Shin’s eyes shines.

“That’s great, I go to Ojo so we might meet again in the school grounds.” Shin said making Sena’s eyes widen and shines bright.

“R-Really?! That’s great! Now I know someone from the school” Sena exclaims happily making Shin unable to stop a smile on his face.

“I can take you on a tour of the school if you like.” Shin said making Sena looked at him shock.

“Y-You don’t have to do that S-Seijuuro” Sena stuttered but Shin shook his head.

“Your new to the school and you know no one else but me so It’s only natural for me to lend you a hand” Shin stated as Sena just sighed giving up the fight and smiled at him.

“Then, I’ll accept your offer Seijuuro.” Sena said as Shin nodded as he feels quite happy.

‘Another thing I need to ask Sakuraba about…What is it that Sena has that makes me feel like this’ Shin thought as he puts the empty bottle of water into the trashcan placed in front of the store and faced Sena.

“I have to continue my morning jog, See you at Ojo.” Shin said as Sena smiled.

“See you at Ojo! Seijuuro!!” Sena exclaimed as she watches Shin jog far away from her making her smile as she started to head back to her own home.

As she arrives at her home her mother immediately tackled her into a crushing hug.

“Sena! Where were you?! What took you so long?!” Her mother exclaimed as Sena laughed sheepishly as she tells her mother about her meeting with Shin and that he was a student of Ojo high school.

“Really?! Isn’t he a gentleman~ I’m happy for you to have made a friend Sena” Her mother, Mihae happily exclaimed as Sena smiled.

“It was a very strange experience but I got a new friend and I am happy” Sena stated as Mihae just giggles.

“Come on Sena, Help your mother cook lunch so we can go back to whatever we were doing before I sent you on the errand” Mihae told her daughter who nodded and followed her mother to the kitchen.

On the other hand, Shin was jogging his way back to his own home with his head clouded with Sena’s smile and the things he was feeling during his conversation with her, especially the relief and happiness that he felt when she told him that she was going to Ojo.

“I need to contact Sakuraba and ask him about these complicated feelings” Shin told himself as he continues his jog with his thoughts switching between his food intake and Sena.

Arriving at his home, he was greeted by his father who is about to leave again for work and he just gave a nod at his father as a sign of goodbye and everyone in the Shin Residence are used to the youngest son to only speak in few words.

“I’m going out now, Seijuuro your mother prepared you meal for you.” Shin’s father told him as Shin just nodded again before heading to the kitchen to see his mother and big sister eating their food.

“Ah! Seijuuro! Welcome home!” Shin’s mother greeted him as Shin takes a seat across his big sister and started to eat his nutritious meal that he had given his family to maintain his body intended for football as his school’s linebacker.

As he finished his food he realized that he might as well asked his mother and his big sister about the things he felt during his jog to his meeting with Sena at the store.

“Mother, Rina can I ask you two a question?” Shin asked in his stoic voice making both women to stop what they were doing and look at the young man.

“Sure dear, ask me whatever you want and I’ll do whatever I can to answer all your question” Shin’s mother replied as Shin then nodded and started to tell his mother about his meeting with Sena and what he was feeling due to certain reactions coming from the young girl making his big sister eyes widen at the realization.

After Shin’s explanation the whole dining room was silent as his mother and his big sister were looking at each other and at him as if they were making sure of something.

“Mom, Did you just hear what I just heard from Seijuuro just now?” His big sister Rina asked her mother as the woman nodded.

“Yes dear, I heard it all right. I never thought the day would come that Seijuuro would find someone he likes other than football” Shin’s mother replied as the two women looks at Shin and gave him a smile.

“Seijuuro, What you are feeling is not a sickness. It’s more like a feeling of admiration and likeness towards this Sena girl” His mother told him as Shin’s eyebrows creased.

“What does that mean?” Shin asked as Rina gave a loud sigh.

“It means that you like this Sena girl or in modern terms love at first sight or more like at first sight but that doesn’t really matter doesn’t it” Rina replied to her little brother who blinked.

“Like? I like Sena?” Seijuuro asked as His mother nodded.

“Yes dear, we don’t exactly know what type of like it could be since its your first time meeting. But it is definitely different from the like you feel for other people but more like the like you feel for football and us your family.” Shin’s mother replied as Shin just tries to insert all the information given into his head as Rina handed him a dictionary.

“If u still don’t get it, look it up in the dictionary” Rina told her little brother who nodded as he takes the book along with him up in his room leaving the two women to look at each other and squeal.

The two were happy that Seijuuro found someone that he could like and they were hopeful that they could meet her soon wanting to know what type of girl had taken the interest of their Seijuuro as they plan on telling the master of this house as soon as he arrives back from work for the day.

Meanwhile in the Kobayakawa Residence, Sena was playing her video games happily still giddy at the idea of having a new friend in the form of Shin Seijuuro and she cannot wait to see him again and talk more.

“Hopefully we could play some video games as a way to hang-out” Sena happily exclaimed.

Unknown to her, Shin isn’t good when it comes to electronics so it may be better to keep Shin away from her video games for her own good.
