Work Text:

Gelo has always wondered if it's possible to pour out your heart to someone and then hit pause before they respond. Not because you don't want to hear their answer, but because you're terrified of what it might be. You're scared of giving them the power to break your heart. So, you let the anticipation linger in the air. If every unspoken word means getting to spend more time with them, then you’re willing to let the silence linger a little longer.

Seven years. Is that long enough? Seven years of hiding his feelings, and it’s starting to feel unbearable. The idea of confessing has crossed his mind countless times, but the thought of Mikki's response fills him with dread, making him second-guess himself every time. He knows the risk of revealing his feelings could change everything between them.

Just as he's lost in these thoughts, Mikki speaks up, snapping him back to the present.

“What if mag-La Union tayo?” Mikki's voice cuts through Gelo's thoughts.

“Anong gagawin natin dun?” Gelo asks, fumbling around in his closet to find the black jacket Mikki’s asking to borrow.

As soon as he finds it, he tosses it to Mikki, who is sprawled across Gelo’s bed while holding a film camera.

“Thanks, bro.” Mikki fails to catch it, so Gelo’s huge jacket covers his entire face, which makes Gelo chuckle.

Bro. Tanginang bro na yan.

The sudden flash from Mikki’s camera temporarily blinds him, making him squint. When he opens his eyes, he finds his jacket set aside and is met by the younger guy’s rare toothy smile. In that moment, Gelo’s determination wavers, as Mikki's smile reminds him why he’s been silent all these years.

“I’m so excited to see what that one looked like,” Mikki says as he pulls himself out of bed.

“Sus,” Gelo scoffs. “‘Di mo naman pinapakita mga kuha mo samin.”

“Syempre. For my eyes only.”

Gelo’s heart jitters at the thought that Mikki wants to keep his photo. And he hates himself for hoping that it actually means something more than he dares to believe.

Of course, it doesn’t. If it did, it would have manifested in the way Mikki treats him, and it’s no different from how he treats Akira, JL, and Nate. He’s certainly not special.

The younger guy nudges him gently. “La Union. Please.”

Gelo shakes his head.

“Nood tayo ng music festival dun. Babalik naman tayo sa Lunes eh. Sige na,” Mikki negotiates.

“Aattend pa ako ng graduation ni Julia sa Linggo,” Gelo contends.

At this point, Mikki knows it’s the best time to bring out his most convincing pout coupled with his puppy-dog eyes.

Tangina. Kuhang kuha mo pa rin ako , Gelo says inwardly.

“Iuuwi kita sa Linggo. First thing in the morning. Sige na, Gelo. Pleaaaase!” He grabs Gelo’s upper arms and shakes them, knowing his best friend could never resist his plea.

Iuuwi kita.

Naknampucha, ang sarap pakinggan.

“Iuuwi mo ko sa Linggo. Linggo, Mikki, ha?” Gelo finally relents, unable to deny the excitement dancing in Mikki's eyes.

Mikki's face lights up with a wide grin, his joy infectious as he pulls Gelo into a tight hug. "Linggo, promise! Pinky swear!" he exclaims, holding out his pinky finger.

Gelo chuckles at Mikki's enthusiasm, intertwining his pinky with his best friend's. "Pinky swear pa more. Sige na. Alis ka na.” He shoves Mikki toward the door to make his I’m-doing-you-a-huge-favor act more believable. “Yung jacket ko ha! Ibalik mo yan.”

Deep inside, though, his mind is already in La Union, conjuring up ways he could make this trip memorable for Mikki. He couldn’t recall a time when someone else's happiness mattered more to him than his own. But for seven long—painfully long—years, he didn’t mind.

All that ever mattered to him was Mikki’s happiness. Kahit na hindi siya yun.

He still recalls the first time they met at Star Hunt Academy, the way Mikki's infectious laughter had filled the room and instantly drawn Gelo in.

Mikki is among the last batch of trainees to enter the camp. He claims that he doesn’t know how to sing and dance, but he somehow knows how to rap and write songs.

There was something about Mikki's presence that intrigued Gelo from the start—something that drew him in like a moth to a flame. Despite the hustle and bustle of the training camp, Gelo found himself unable to look away, his curiosity piqued by this newcomer.

As fate would have it, Gelo and Mikki soon found themselves thrown together during a dance workshop, with Gelo offering to lend a hand to his new acquaintance.

"Kailangan mo ng tulong?" Gelo asked.

Mikki paused for a moment, considering the offer before replying, "Hindi, ok lang."

Days turned to weeks, and weeks to months, and they were able to form a group called BGYO. Although he is close to all four of them, Mikki is different.

During the pandemic, they were essentially stuck together in their shared home for over a year due to quarantine protocols. Imagine being cooped up with the same people day in and day out for that long.

And during those long months, life in their shared home became a routine of sorts. Requests like "Kuya Gelo, order tayo nito, please," and "Samahan mo ko dito, please," were tossed around casually, becoming part of their daily conversations. Mikki, in his own way, clung to Gelo as well, seeking his advice on trivial matters like, "Anong tingin mo sa suot ko? Bagay ba sakin ‘to?"

Can you blame Gelo for feeling something more than just friendship? It was during these mundane moments that Gelo's heart started to beat a little faster whenever Mikki was around. And then, one day, Mikki dropped the "Kuya." For the first time, Gelo felt a surge of something different, something too glaring to ignore.

Eventually, all those little moments led him here.

The music is loud, the bass vibrating through the floor and into Gelo's bones. Mikki, JL, and Gelo are out for a rare night off, trying to let loose after weeks of grueling rehearsals and performances.

Gelo stands by the bar, nursing his drink and trying to push away the gnawing discomfort in his chest. Across the room, Mikki chats animatedly with a girl, his usual charm on full display. The girl laughs at something he says, touching his arm lightly. Gelo’s grip tightens around his glass. He tries to focus on anything else, but his eyes keep drifting back to Mikki.

"Another drink?" The bartender’s voice cuts through his thoughts. Gelo nods, sliding his empty glass across the counter. As the bartender refills it, JL appears beside him, eyeing the scene with a raised eyebrow.

"In-game na naman," JL remarks, following Gelo's gaze. "Okay ka lang?"

Gelo forces a smile, but it doesn't reach his eyes. "Masakit na."

JL sighs, patting Gelo on the back. "Uwi na tayo."

Gelo shakes his head, stumbling slightly as he tries to stand. "Kaya ko pa."

One drink turns into several, causing his head to spin, and his vision to blur at the edges. He knows he shouldn't drive home in this state, but he can't bring himself to care.

JL isn't having it. "Dito ka lang. Tawagin ko na si Mikki."

Gelo’s other best friend weaves through the crowd, finding Mikki still engrossed in conversation with the girl. He taps Mikki on the shoulder.

"Mikki, uuwi na. Lasing na si Gelo."

Mikki glances over at Gelo, then back at the girl. "The night's still young, dude. You take him."

JL's expression darkens, but he doesn't argue. He returns to Gelo, who is barely standing upright.

He sighs, wanting so badly to chastise Gelo for choosing Mikki, of all people, to fall in love with. Clearly, Mikki chooses someone else over his best friend. How many more times does this have to happen before Gelo decides to move on?

"Ako na maghahatid sa’yo," JL says, guiding Gelo towards the exit.

Gelo slumps in the passenger seat, his head resting against the glass.

"Lagi mo na lang yang pinagbibigyan," JL mutters, breaking the heavy silence.

Gelo's voice is slurred and thick with emotion. "Nasanay eh. Tanginang yan.”

JL sighs, gripping the steering wheel tighter. "Papaalala ko lang sa'yo, mag-eend na kontrata natin, ilang araw na lang. Masanay ka na na wala siya. Alisin mo na siya sa sistema mo."

"Ayokoooo," he cries dramatically.

"Kailangan mo nang harapin yan. Hindi pwedeng forever kang tanga," JL says, his tone softer but still firm.

"Bakit di na lang kasi ako?" Gelo's voice cracks.

JL glances at him, his expression pained. "Sa tingin mo, kung alam ko, hindi ko sasabihin sayo?"

"Ang sakit sakit na,” Gelo sobs, his cries growing louder until he passes out and falls asleep.

JL drives in silence. He doesn't have the answers, but he wishes he could ease his friend's pain. He may not know exactly how painful it is, but for someone like Gelo to cry over his feelings, it surely is not an easy burden to bear. The least he can do is be there for him and, for now, get him home safely.

“Nagyayaya si Mikki mag La Union. Maaga pa tayo aalis bukas.”

Gelo informs the group as they walk along the streets of Tomas Morato Avenue. They had just finished recording their final song, and Gelo is so exhausted he can barely feel his legs.

Akira scrunches his eyebrows. “Bukas?”

“Wala naman tayong schedule sa weekend. Sige na oh. Minsan lang ako magyaya eh,” Mikki says.

“Sino magmamaneho?” JL asks.

Mikki, trailing behind Gelo, gives his shoulders a squeeze. “Si Gelo raw.”

All three boys look at their leader as if he’s committed a heinous crime. They know that when Mikki asks, Gelo can't say no, and consequently, neither can they.

"Luh. Di ganyan yung usapan ah," Gelo protests.

"Sige na oh. Salitan na lang kayo ni Aki kung pagod ka," Mikki pleads.

"Teh pagod na yan, matagal na," JL quips with a double meaning, earning a swat from Akira.

"O sya, sya. Baka umiyak ka pa diyan eh,” Gelo resigns, giving in to Mikki for the nth time in seven years.

“Ay si tanga,” JL says, pursing his lips.

Akira is quick to come to Gelo’s defense. He knows the hard work that comes with loving someone so much that saying yes to whatever they want becomes second nature. He knows about the nights Gelo has spent wondering why he will never be enough, how someone adored and gushed over by so many can't get the only guy he wants to look at him, to look at him.

So, as much as it is an inconvenience for them to put up with Gelo’s obsequious acts, he understands.

“Sabagay, parang despedida na rin natin. Bigay na natin ‘to sa kanya,” Akira says.

“Thank you!” Mikki exclaims, thinking that Akira was referring to him when in fact he meant Gelo.

Something about the way Nate smiles makes it clear he understands. Even JL, who always has a comeback for anything, resigns with a nod.

“Sige. Tara,” Gelo says.

Forget the fact that Gelo loves sleeping. Forget that he loves his bed. It’s always worth a shot if it’s for Mikki.

The only consolation he gets is that after this trip, maybe, just maybe, he can finally lay his feelings to rest.

Throughout their careers, the members of BGYO haven't always been saints. They've had their fair share of shenanigans and horseplay, fooling around only to regret it in the morning. Adding another one to the list certainly wouldn’t hurt, would it? When your contract ends in three days, you’ve got nothing more to lose.

So, in true BGYO fashion, all five members embark on one last, unsupervised, and spontaneous road trip. Gelo almost regrets it the moment Mikki calls dibs on the shotgun seat. For seven years, it has always been like that. This lean, tall, unfairly adorable, and handsome guy is at the forefront of Gelo’s attention.

“Time check!” JL screeches from the back, pretending to glance at his watch as he deliberately widens his eyes at Gelo, as if to remind him that there are pressing matters in the world other than his push-and-pull dalliance with the guy sitting on his right.

“Alis na siguro tayo, ano?” the group’s barda king quips.

Gelo nods and starts the engine. The three other members fall asleep while he struggles to stay awake for the next two hours of driving.

“Papunta na rin daw sina Onie at Suya,” Mikki says, reading a text message from their friend, Onie.

He then locks his phone and turns the car radio on. He scans through the stations until he settles on a familiar sound.

May nararamdaman din ako, di kasing manhid na tulad mo

“Tagal ko nang ‘di napapakinggan ‘to ah,” the younger guy states.

Gelo just hums in agreement. They say music and smell are the strongest memory triggers, and this song definitely brings back a lot of memories, playing like a montage in his head that he tries to push to the back of his mind.

“‘Di ka ba matutulog saglit?” he asks Mikki, trying to distract himself.

Mikki adjusts himself, removes his feet from his sandals, and places them up on the dashboard, earning a swat from Gelo.

“What? I’m trying to sleep,” he defends.

Gelo pretends to wave a hand in front of his nose, “Baho!”

As natural a tease as Mikki is, he shoves his foot in the older guy’s face. They share a laugh, followed by a comfortable silence. Gelo’s mind wanders to the possibility that this is everything they could be if only Mikki shared his feelings. He’d definitely be lying if he said that he hasn’t imagined how it would feel to have Mikki as his lover.

Mikki is naturally sweet. He cares for people, and his energy is infectious. He effortlessly charms every room he’s in with his charisma, his presence instantly lighting up the space. Gelo has witnessed him falling in and out of love with several different girls. Sometimes, he thinks about how lucky they are to have experienced calling Mikki theirs. No matter how short-lived his romances are, at least they got to have him.

He imagines the laughter they shared, the secrets they whispered, and he can’t help but wonder if they ever compared to what he and Mikki have.

How pathetic. He knows it’s pathetic to think like that, but he can’t help it. He always feels like he has to compete with the ghosts of Mikki’s past loves despite not even standing a chance in the present.

But hey, anybody can dream, right?

“Matulog ka na nga diyan,” he says to Mikki, mentally slapping himself to silence the unwanted thoughts. He has plenty of time to deal with them later.

They reach their destination before the first blush of dawn. Everybody is still asleep. In the backseat, JL is nestled against the window, while Nate and Akira are cocooned under a towel they managed to turn into a blanket. Then he looks at the guy sleeping peacefully beside him, his serene expression kissed by the first light of day.

Sobrang gwapo. Nakakainis.

Akira is the first to stir from his slumber and realizes they’ve arrived in La Union.

“Pst. Tama na yan,” he says when he catches Gelo staring at Mikki.

Gelo just smiles and nods. Akira gently taps the rest of the boys, and Gelo gives them enough time to stretch and yawn.

Soon, Onie and Suya also arrive, and they all make their way to the resort.

Mikki informs them that he has already reserved two rooms, and the boys decide on their assignments.

“Syempre tuwang tuwa ka diyan,” Onie whispers to Gelo when it is declared that he’s sharing a room with Mikki, JL, and Onie.

Gelo discreetly elbows his friend, whose mouth he sometimes wants to zip because all it brings is trouble.

All the times he instantly sobered up from being dead drunk were almost always because of Onie. He knows about Gelo’s pent-up feelings for Mikki and constantly expresses disapproval of the latter’s choices in love. Gelo appreciates his friend’s empathy, though. He appreciates that Onie wants to smack Mikki for not reciprocating his feelings, but being around him and Mikki at the same time is like walking on thin ice.

Just like that one rainy Saturday evening. It was less than ideal to go out in that kind of weather, but Mikki couldn’t afford to spend his free weekend sitting and moping around at home, especially since they rarely have days off. It’s ironic that what he does during these supposed rest days is the complete opposite of rest.

But we’re only young once, so better make the most of it, right?

When Gelo and Onie arrived at Apotheka, they immediately spotted Mikki socializing with unfamiliar faces. He gestured for them to come over so he could introduce his new friends. As the designated driver, Gelo committed to light drinking. Random people offered him drinks here and there, which he refused politely, save for the times Onie grabbed them before he could even say no.

It was past three am yet the rain hadn't stopped. Mikki was already passed out from being drunk, his arms draped over his friends’ shoulders.

“Mukhang alam ko nang magiging ending nito,” Onie said between grunts from supporting Mikki’s unsteady weight.

“Ng alin?” Gelo asked.

Onie didn’t answer his question and instead pointed at Mikki using his pouting lips.

“Ewan ko sa’yo, Mikki. Buti sana kung jowa mo mag-aalaga sa’yo, eh hindi naman. Itong hilaw mong jo-”

Gelo kicked Onie’s butt from behind, effectively shutting him up.

“Oh bakit, hindi ba totoo?”

If Onie asked him the same thing right now, the answer would still be yes. Gelo just hopes that his friend would at least make sure it’s well out of Mikki’s earshot or else he’ll be forced to reveal more than he intends to.

“Matutulog muna ako ha. Mag-iipon lang ng energy,” Gelo announces drowsily.

“JL tabi tayo ha. Ayokong tumabi diyan kay Gelo naninipa,” Onie says as he and JL exchange a knowing look.

Their chinito friend nods, clearly supporting Onie’s not-so-subtle plan to have Gelo and Mikki share a bed.

“Sige. Si Mikki rin eh, ang ingay humilik.”

Now that’s a blatant lie. They all know Mikki doesn’t snore.

“Wow ah. Kailan lang ako humilik?” Mikki protests. “Si Aki yata ‘yan eh.”

“Hoy anong ako? Baka si Nate.”

“Not me!”

Gelo chuckles and wearily retreats to their bedroom, their voices slowly fading into the background as he drifts off to sleep.

Just like a scene straight out of a dream, Gelo awakes to Mikki lying beside him. A tender feeling of fondness wells up in his heart as he marvels at his beauty. Every feature is a work of art: the way his hair falls across his forehead, the delicate curve of his eyelashes, and the peaceful expression that graces his plump lips.

He allows himself to stare at him fully and can’t resist reaching out to gently brush a strand of hair from Mikki’s face. This moment doesn’t happen very often, so he doesn’t fight the urge to extend a gentle finger to trace Mikki’s nose bridge. He smiles when it leads to a beautifully sculpted nose tip, silently thanking the heavens for Mikki’s existence.

Am I finally ready to let you go?

His chest tightens at the thought. Paano na ang buhay nang walang Mikki? Parang hindi niya yata kaya.

Gelo brushes the lingering thought aside and instead fishes for his phone from his pocket. He wants to immortalize this moment. Things may not turn out the way he wants them to, but at least he has this photo to remember this love by.

He raises his phone as silently as possible, careful not to wake Mikki up. He carefully frames the shot, capturing the younger guy’s mesmerizing profile. Gelo is sure the flash is turned off, but fate has other plans.

At the very moment he presses the shutter button, an embarrassingly loud sound comes from his phone, disrupting the room’s silence.

Mikki’s eyes blink open, momentarily blinded by the sudden intrusion of light.

“Woke… up… to… this… view. Sesend ko to kay Mama. Ganda talaga ng view dito sa La Union!” Gelo rambles, pretending to send a text message in an attempt to save face.

Mikki groans and rubs his eyes, blinking away the sleep.

“Morning,” Gelo says. “Ligo lang ako ah.”

He gets up and finds that JL and Onie are already out since their bed is empty. He heads to the bathroom quickly, embarrassment still taking over him. His racing heart needs some more time to calm down.

When he finishes showering, Mikki’s already gone. He goes out to see the rest of the boys already seated for breakfast. Except for one. Automatically, Gelo’s eyes search for him, as if his presence was a prerequisite for him to breathe and function.

Soon, he spots him walking along the beach with a girl he doesn’t recognize. Mikki is holding a camera as the girl poses for him. They are laughing together as they stand side by side checking the shots Mikki took of her.

An unfamiliar sensation hits Gelo in his gut. He tells himself he’s just hungry and proceeds to munch his chicken wing.

“Nurse, mukhang may nasasaktan dito,” Onie says, earning a nudge from Akira.

“Bilisan niyo na. Dagat na dagat na ako oh,” Akira says, trying to change the subject.

Mikki and the girl approach their table. He takes the empty seat next to Gelo, while Suya moves one seat to his right to make way for the girl.

“Guys, this is Avah.”

Avah cheerfully smiles and waves at everyone. “Hi. Mikki and I go way back! High school pa.”

Everybody nods and exchanges pleasantries with their new guest. After a while, Nate asks everyone to pose for a photo. He then asks for Avah’s Instagram account so he can tag her.

“Oh, it’s avahgarcia. With an H,” she provides.

JL prods Gelo with his foot to get the latter to look at him, and when he does, he mouths, “May H.”

Gelo doesn’t get it at first, “May?”

JL rolls his eyes and says it out loud instead, “Ah, may H. Si Gelo, Garcia din ‘to eh. Baka relatives kayo.”

Gelo is sure they aren’t. Throughout his and Mikki’s seven years of friendship, he remembers all the girls Mikki has introduced to him, and he is positive he has never met her before.

“Taga saan ba kayo?”

“Tarlac.”

Gelo gives a respectful nod and says, “Maraming Garcias sa mundo, after all.”

“Bakit may H?” Gelo whispers to JL, which Onie also hears, making the three of them devolve into laughter that leaves the rest confused.

As the day goes on, the group enjoys the beach, swimming, and playing games. Gelo tries his best to join in and have fun, but his eyes keep drifting back to Mikki and Avah. They seem to be having a great time, and he can’t help the pang of jealousy that flares up every now and then.

In the afternoon, they all gather around for a bonfire, roasting marshmallows and sharing stories. The atmosphere is warm and relaxed, with everyone in high spirits.

“Alam niyo ba,” Mikki begins, “Gelo has this habit of taking photos of people when they’re sleeping.”

Gelo’s heart skips a beat. “Hoy, ‘di totoo yan!” he protests, laughing nervously.

“Oh talaga? Explain mo nga ‘yung kaninang umaga,” Mikki teases, winking at him.

Everyone laughs, and Gelo feels a mixture of embarrassment and affection. He looks at Mikki, who’s grinning mischievously, and for a moment, everything feels right. And then he looks at JL, who mouths at him, “Tanga.” Gelo rolls his eyes in response.

As the night deepens, Gelo finds himself unable to sleep. The mix of emotions swirling inside him makes rest impossible. He decides to gather everyone for a drink.

“Guys, inuman tayo,” Gelo suggests, trying to shake off his restless energy.

They ask Mikki to join them, but he surprisingly refuses, opting for sleep instead.

The remaining three settle in a nipa hut, and Onie brings out the drinks they had bought earlier. It's already around 3 AM, and they are the only ones outside, save for the staff working the night shift.

“Oh, kamusta naman kayo? Seven years din yun,” Onie begins, breaking the silence.

“Hala, kung gusto mong mag-emote, wag kang mandamay,” JL retorts, but there's a teasing smile on his face.

“Di, seryoso kasi. Ang tagal din ng tinakbo ng career niyo eh,” Onie continues.

“Para ka namang facilitator ng retreat diyan,” Gelo jokes, trying to deflect.

“Hay nako. Mga gago lang ‘tong mga ‘to, pero wala akong babaguhin,” JL finally answers, raising his glass.

“Naks naman,” Gelo responds, touched by the sentiment.

Onie turns to Gelo, his expression more serious. “Ikaw, Gelo? Kailan mo balak baguhin yang nararamdaman mo?”

JL jumps in, “Ay, teh, wala nang balak yan. Seven years na eh. Ano pang mawawala diba? Ituloy mo na. Itodo mo na!”

“Parang mga gago,” Gelo mutters, but there's no heat in his words.

“Alam ko na,” Onie declares, a mischievous glint in his eyes. “Isa-isahin natin yung mga katangahan mo para sa kanya over the years!”

“Gusto ko yan,” JL agrees, clearly entertained.

“Pag di ka makasagot after five seconds, shot,” Onie challenges.

“Sus, parang yan lang,” Gelo says, accepting the challenge.

“Game ah. 2021,” JL starts, leaning back and waiting.

Gelo takes a deep breath. “2021. Takbuhan niya ko pag di siya makatulog. Isang katok niya lang sa kwarto ko, kahit tulog na ‘ko, wala. Kahit papikit na yung mga mata ko, tinitiis ko makausap lang siya.”

“Ano ulit yung topic niyo?” JL asks, knowing the answer.

“Babae niya. Tangina mo. Wag mo nang ipaalala,” Gelo says, rolling his eyes.

JL and Onie burst into laughter.

“2022. Ay, mukhang marami-rami ‘to,” Onie says, his eyes twinkling with amusement.

“Nasa iisang bahay pa kaming lahat nun. Day off kaya uuwi dapat ako sa bahay.

Yung kaba ko OA to the highest level. Tapos kinabukasan, dinaan niya lang ako sa pa-cute niya.”

“Nadadala ka naman?” Onie teases.

“2024,” Onie continues.

Gelo sighs, a wistful look in his eyes. “Three years ko na siyang mahal, and counting. Pwede na ba yun?”

“2025,” JL says, ready for more.

Gelo is tipsy by now and laughs breathlessly. “2026? Parang kailan lang, di ba?”

“2025 teh. Wag kang atat diyan,” Onie corrects, laughing along.

Gelo laughs, the alcohol loosening his tongue. “Ah. 2025, four years ko na siyang minamahal. Pakshet!”

“2026,” Onie presses.

“Kulang. Kulang eh. Kulang lahat ng mga taon na yun sa kanya. Isama mo na this year. Kulang pa rin,” Gelo confesses, a deep sense of longing in his voice.

“Kailan mo balak tapusin?” JL asks, his tone softer now.

Gelo looks at his friends, the weight of his unspoken feelings hanging heavy in the air. He takes a deep breath, knowing that the answer isn’t simple and might never be.

"Guys, tara bagnet!" Akira exclaims, his eyes lighting up with excitement.

The others eagerly agree, their spirits high as they make their way to a well-known restaurant. But just as they are about to enter, Avah speaks up.

"Um, I’m actually vegan," she says, her voice hesitant but firm. "I can’t eat bagnet."

A brief silence falls over the group. Gelo feels a pang of disappointment, mirrored by the others' expressions. This is supposed to be a highlight of their trip, and now it feels like their plans are unraveling.

“Ay,” JL says, trying to mask his disappointment. “So, saan tayo?”

The tension is palpable, but Mikki quickly steps in, his usual charm at the ready. “No problem, Avah. Maghanap na lang tayo ng iba. I’m sure we’ll find something that works for everyone.”

Gelo watches Mikki with a mixture of admiration and sadness. It is so typical of him to adjust so easily, to accommodate others without a second thought. He wishes he could feel the same ease about the situation.

They wander around until they find a quaint café that offers a variety of vegan options. The group settles into a table, the earlier excitement now tempered with a touch of frustration.

As they wait for their food, Mikki tries to lighten the mood. “Parang di ka naman vegan dati?” he starts a conversation with Avah, genuinely curious.

Avah smiles, her passion evident. “A few years ago lang naman. I just became more aware of the environmental impact and the ethical considerations. It’s been a journey, you know, but I feel great about it.”

The others listen politely, though Gelo can’t help but feel a twinge of resentment. He has been looking forward to this trip, to sharing these special moments with Mikki. Now it feels like Avah is intruding on something sacred.

Pati ba naman dito, may hadlang.

Their food arrives, and they begin to eat. Despite the change in plans, the food is good, and the atmosphere slowly begins to relax. They chat about lighter topics, the conversation eventually steering towards their lives and recent achievements.

“Medyo naging busy na nga rin kami these past few days eh, since last year na ng contract namin as a group,” Mikki says, glancing around the table. “But it’s nice to finally take a break.”

“Yeah,” Nate agrees. “It’s been a wild ride, but we’ve done some amazing things together.”

Avah nods, a hint of pride in her expression. “I’ve been really focused on my projects too. I recently made it to the Young Star list, and it’s been such a huge honor!”

“Uy, nice,” Akira says, though his tone is carefully neutral.

Gelo listens, feeling a mixture of emotions. He is happy that they’re sharing a moment like this, but he can’t shake the feeling that Avah is overshadowing the bond he shares with his friends. He glances at Mikki, who is engaged in the conversation, his usual enthusiasm shining through.

And then he thinks to himself, tama na siguro yung seven years.

As the others head off to their rooms, Gelo and Mikki are left behind, beer bottles in hand, swaying slightly as they navigate the path back to their own room. The night air is cool, and the stars above provide a serene backdrop to their tipsy conversation.

Mikki glances at Gelo, a mischievous smile playing on his lips. "So ano nang balak mo after BGYO?"

Gelo takes a swig from his bottle, pondering the question. "Ewan. Siguro sasayaw pa rin. International contests, ganun. Modelling gigs kung meron. Ikaw ba?"

"Nabanggit sakin ni Tita na baka mag ibang bansa ka na raw. Grabe ka. Iiwan mo na talaga ako," Mikki says, his tone a mix of teasing and genuine concern.

Gelo laughs, the sound slightly slurred. "Luh. Hindi pa naman final! Ikaw nga magmomodel din sa Hong Kong eh."

"Fake news. Ayoko muna. Mag-aaral muna siguro ako," Mikki replies, shrugging.

Gelo grins, nudging Mikki with his elbow. "Naks! School boy Mikki Claver."

Mikki sighs, his mood shifting slightly. "Napag-iiwanan na nga ako eh. Mga kasabayan ko professionals na. May mga narating na. Pamilyado na. Samantalang ako…"

"Oh bakit, ikaw? Ang layo na rin naman ng narating mo. Sikat ka na. Syempre yung kasikatan may kaakibat na... anong tawag dun... consequences. Yun," Gelo says, struggling to find the right word. “We can’t have everything, ika nga.”

The words hang in the air, carrying a double meaning that only Gelo truly understands: even he can't have everything he desires, especially not Mikki.

Mikki chuckles. "Wow, English!"

"Parang sira. Pero di nga. Di ka naman napag-iiwanan. Nagsisimula pa nga lang," Gelo insists, his voice earnest despite the alcohol.

Mikki's smile fades slightly. "Di mo kasi ako naiintindihan."

Gelo stops walking, turning to face Mikki, his expression serious despite his drunken state. "Huyyy! Ako??? Hindi ka naiintindihan??? Di mo nga sinasabi sakin na ex mo pala yang si Avah eh. Siguro, Mikki, ikaw ah. Marami ka pang di sinasabi sakin. Sige na! Ngayon! Oh, sabihin mo na. Kung ano yang bagahe mo, ilabas mo na!" His words are slightly slurred, a result of the alcohol coursing through his system.

Mikki sighs deeply. "Okay, fine. Seven years ago, may Avah. Tapos a few days ago, nagparamdam ulit siya. Ang hirap lang talagang hindian yung taong minahal mo nang sobra. Yung walang wala ka na pero pag nandiyan siya, parang... kahit konti na lang natitira, hindi mo magawa eh. Hindi mo mahindian. Ayan, kaya tayo nandito ngayon."

Gelo's expression shifts, bitterness seeping in. "Kaya tayo nandito ngayon,” he repeats. “Di mo sinabi chaperone pala ang kailangan mo, hindi group bonding."

Mikki looks at Gelo, guilt and gratitude mixed in his gaze. "Sorry, sorry. Alam mo namang ikaw lang tong nakaka-gets nitong utak ko."

“Naiintindihan ko naman. Ganun din ako,” Gelo bravely admits, not caring anymore about where this conversation leads.

Mikki responds, "Oh? Parang wala ka namang nakukwento sakin sa loob ng seven years nating pagsasama. Sino yan?"

Gelo shrugs, "Anong sino? Wala. Ibig kong sabihin, may mga bagay talaga na mahirap i-let go. Kaya tayo nasasaktan eh, pilit tayong kumakapit sa mga dapat pinapakawalan na."

“Ay oh. May hugot yan. Dali na. Ikaw ah, nagsisikreto ka na sakin,” Mikki teases.

Gelo dismisses it.

Tangina. Ang manhid manhid talaga.

He takes a deep breath, his frustration giving way to understanding. "May question ako."

"Oh," Mikki responds, bracing himself.

"Bakit may H yung pangalan niya?" Gelo asks, his tone suddenly light.

Mikki stares at Gelo for a moment before bursting into laughter. "Seryoso ba yan?"

They laugh together, the tension dissipating as they continue their journey back to their room. Gelo finishes his beer and tosses the empty bottle aside.

"Wala na eh. May tama na tong o-at na to. Kaya tara na, balik na tayo bago pa ko maihi dito," Gelo says, his steps becoming more unsteady.

Mikki shakes his head, still chuckling. "Dugyot!"

As they step into the room, Gelo reaches into his bag and pulls out the leftover bagnet, holding it out to Mikki with a grin. "Oh, kainin mo na habang wala pa yung dalawa," he says, a playful twinkle in his eye.

Acts of service. Words of affirmation. Quality time. Physical touch. Gift-giving. Name it.

Bad performance?

That's the depth of love and affection he has for the younger guy. So it's understandable why the emotions bubbling inside him right now demand release.

Mikki accepts the offering with a grateful nod, taking a bite of the crispy bagnet as they settle into the room. A comfortable silence envelops them, broken only by the sound of Mikki's occasional munching.

Although a bit tense and nervous, Gelo secretly thanks Onie and JL for providing him with this moment alone with Mikki.

He glances at the latter and finds him gently plucking the strings of the guitar that was just resting on their bedside. The familiar tune makes Gelo want to scream in frustration. It makes him want to burst and just yell at Mikki; at how oblivious he is to Gelo’s feelings; how, for seven years, he never even bothered to look Gelo’s way.

But he knows it’s not Mikki’s fault.

Dahil hindi naman lahat ng nagmamahal nasusuklian.

Gelo's heart clenches as he listens to Mikki's tender voice. There's a rawness in his tone, a vulnerability laid bare as he sings the lines with aching sincerity. At that moment, he almost believed that maybe, just maybe, Mikki knows how he really feels.

Oh, 'wag kang tumingin

Nang ganyan sa'kin

'Wag mo akong kulitin

'Wag mo akong tanungin

Dahil katulad mo

Ako rin ay nagbago

'Di na tayo katulad ng dati

Kay bilis ng sandali

Mikki glances at Gelo, a faint smile playing on his lips. "Diba favorite mo 'to? Kanta ka."

Though Gelo's heart is heavy with the weight of his confession, he obliges, his voice quivering slightly as he sings the lyrics.

Oh, kay tagal din kitang minahal

Oh, kay tagal din kitang minahal

His voice breaks at the last line, his emotions spilling over.

"Mikki, mahal kita. Mahal kita, seven years na," Gelo admits, his voice trembling. “Seven years na kitang mahal.”

Mikki is taken aback by the confession, temporarily stilled in his place. When Gelo breaks into tears, Mikki sets the guitar aside and crawls over to Gelo's bed, wrapping his arms around him in an attempt to soothe him. Gelo can't bring himself to meet Mikki's gaze, but Mikki persists, their eyes locking in a moment of intense vulnerability.

Mikki hesitates, unsure of what to do as he watches Gelo's tears cascade down his cheeks. His heart aches at the sight of his best friend's pain, and in that moment, he feels an overwhelming urge to do something, anything, to comfort him.

In his tipsy state, kissing Gelo seems like the only way to ease his suffering, to convey the depth of his care and concern.

And so Mikki leans in, his lips brushing against Gelo's, soft and tentative. It's a kiss born not out of romantic desire, but from a place of confusion and compassion. Their lips meet in a gentle dance, but Gelo's mind is in turmoil, clouded by doubts and fears. He knows that this kiss might mean more to him than it does to Mikki, that their feelings may not align in the way he wishes they would.

But Mikki's kisses are tender, tracing a path across Gelo's face—his eyes, his nose, his lips—each touch infused with a mixture of comfort and longing. When Mikki's lips find their way to Gelo's neck, a surge of conflicting emotions washes over him. Part of him wants to pull Mikki closer, to drown in the warmth of his embrace and forget the pain for just a moment longer. But another part—the part that knows this might only lead to more heartbreak—holds him back.

So with a heavy heart, Gelo gently pushes Mikki away, his touch gentle yet firm. He retreats to the other bed, wrapping himself in a blanket as he tries to nurse his broken heart. Mikki watches him go, his own heart heavy with regret and uncertainty.

And then it dawns on him that their friendship might never be the same again; that he has lost his best friend forever.

As the sun rises and the rest of the boys trickle back into the room, there's a subtle shift in the air. Their knowing looks and exchanged glances hint at the events of the previous night, leaving Gelo feeling exposed and vulnerable.

Mikki attempts to approach Gelo several times throughout the morning, eager to address the unspoken tension between them, but Gelo remains distant, brushing off his attempts to talk.

Later that day, they gather at the beach, the sand warm beneath their feet as they have a fun dance session. The atmosphere is light and cheery as the familiar beats of their debut song, "The Light," fill the room, and the boys lose themselves in the music.

“Oh, mali na naman!” Nate shrieks and they all laugh.

Meanwhile, Onie and Suya eagerly capture the moment on video.

As they dance, it becomes clear that they're a bit rusty on some of the choreography. Laughter fills the air as they stumble over steps and bump into each other, their movements uncoordinated but full of energy.

Amidst the chaos, Mikki steals a glance at Gelo, a silent apology lingering in his gaze. Gelo meets his eyes briefly before turning away, his expression unreadable.

Suddenly, there's a sharp intake of breath as Gelo winces in pain, clutching his foot. He's stepped on a broken glass shard, his skin already starting to trickle blood.

Concerned, Mikki moves to help, but before he can reach Gelo, Akira steps forward, taking charge of the situation. He inspects the injury and begins to clean and dress the wound with the help of JL and Nate.

Mikki watches from the sidelines, a mix of emotions swirling inside him. He wants to help Gelo, to be there for him in his time of need, but he knows his efforts would likely be met with resistance.

So he excuses himself, mentioning that Avah needs his help with something urgent. Before Gelo can dwell too much on Mikki's departure, Onie steps in. “May sugat ka na’t lahat lahat, siya pa rin ang inaalala mo.”

“Itigil mo na yan ah. Sarili mo naman muna,” JL adds.

Akira, still tending to Gelo's injury, nods in agreement. "Tama sila, Gelo. Kailangan mo ring alagaan ang sarili mo. Hindi mo pwedeng laging unahin si Mikki."

Nate, trying to lighten the mood, gives Gelo a reassuring pat on the back. "We’re all here for you, kuya. We’ve got your back."

Gelo tries to smile, but the weight of the situation is too much. His tears finally start to fall, and the boys close in tighter, their support palpable.

Onie sighs, his voice softer now. "Alam namin na mahalaga sa'yo si Mikki, pero sana pagkaalis natin dito, makabitaw ka na rin."

Gelo takes a deep breath, the words of his friends sinking in. He knows they’re right, but letting go is easier said than done.

Akira finishes bandaging Gelo's foot. "Okay na, Gelo. Magpahinga ka muna."

“Magpahinga ha!” JL emphasizes, his tone stern but caring.

Gelo nods and forces a smile.

Meanwhile, Mikki, now out of sight, feels a pang of guilt. He knows he’s running away from the situation, but facing Gelo's pain is too overwhelming right now.

Later that night, Gelo sits on the edge of his bed, his phone pressed to his ear. His mom’s voice crackles through the speaker, reminding him of his niece Julia’s elementary graduation the next morning. Gelo sighs, explaining that he might not be able to make it because he is in La Union and driving with his injury would be unsafe.

Mikki, overhearing the conversation from across the room, strides over and gently takes the phone from Gelo's hand.

“Hello, Tita,” Mikki says reassuringly. “Wag po kayong mag-alala. Iuuwi ko po siya agad after ng event mamaya. Baka umaga na po kami makarating diyan. Opo, ako po magdadrive… Yes po, mag-iingat po.”

Gelo watches as Mikki speaks, holding back the tears that are once again threatening to fall. The thought that his mom has always had a soft spot for Mikki makes his heart swell. He recalls the countless times she’d ask about Mikki, her voice always softening when she spoke his name. Maybe deep inside, she knew.

As Mikki ends the call, he hands the phone back to Gelo. "Ihahatid kita pauwi," he says with a small, reassuring smile.

"Salamat," Gelo mutters, not knowing what else to say.

With a shared understanding and a silent truce, the boys head to the beachfront again. The night is alive with the hum of excitement as the music festival, organized by Avah, unfolds before them. The stage is set against the backdrop of the ocean, lights flickering in rhythm with the waves. They find a spot near the edge of the crowd.

Gelo can't help but notice how Mikki's eyes light up as he watches the performers, a genuine smile playing on his lips. It's a sight that makes Gelo's heart ache with both love and longing.

The music thrums through the air, each beat resonating with the crowd. Gelo's thoughts are a whirlwind, the day's events replaying in his mind. He feels the sting of his injury with each step, but it pales in comparison to the ache in his chest.

Mikki stands close, the tension between them palpable. He feels the weight of his unspoken words, the burden of secrets kept for too long.

"Gelo, sorry,” Mikki says.

Gelo shakes his head, frustration evident in his tone. "Wala kang kasalanan. Tsaka ba't ka ba sorry nang sorry eh hindi mo naman kasalanan na hindi mo ko mahal?"

Ang tanging kasalanan mo lang ay kamahal-mahal ka.

Mikki opens his mouth to respond, but before he can, their friends approach, urging Gelo to sing.

“Uy, sige na Gelz!”

“Baka leader namin yan!”

He hesitates, looking to Mikki for some kind of sign, but Mikki only gives him a small nod of encouragement. With a sigh, Gelo goes up to the stage and takes the microphone.

Akala ko'y habangbuhay tayo

Akala ko'y hanggang dulo

Kay haba pa ng kalsada

Dito na ba tayo bababa

Kung ganito na nga ba'ng usapan

Kung dito na ang hangganan

Dapat sigurong iwasan

Ang mga minsang kamustahan

As Gelo's voice carries the poignant lyrics through the night, Mikki watches him, his heart heavy. He knows the song's meaning isn't lost on Gelo, and the pain in his voice is evident.

Akira, standing next to Mikki, leans in and whispers, "Tol, wala ba talaga?"

Mga nakasanayan

Dapat ng kalimutan

Upang di tayo magkasakitan

Hanggang dito na lang

Hanggang dito na lang

Ikaw ba ang nagbago o ako o tayo

Baka tayo

Mikki doesn't answer, his gaze fixed on Gelo. He can't bring himself to respond. All he knows is that he hurt Gelo and he doesn't know how to fix it.

Hindi lang naman siya ang nawalan. Ako rin, mawawalan ng kaibigan.

As Gelo returns to his spot next to Mikki, Avah approaches them, requesting a moment to use the restroom. Mikki nods and then turns to Gelo to explain the situation, mentioning that Avah needs to be home before sunrise. So he asks if it's alright for her to join them for the ride back.

Kailan ba ko humindi sa’yo? Gelo thinks to himself, his heart heavy with the realization that this might be their last moment together.

“Sige, ok lang,” he finally responds, his voice betraying the ache in his heart.

“Thanks. Unahin ko na lang siya tapos diretso tayo sa bahay niyo,” Mikki says softly.

“Pano ka uuwi sa inyo?”

“Ako nang bahala dun,” Mikki replies, smiling.

Gelo can’t describe how those words make him feel. Is this Mikki’s way of saying that he can stand on his own now?

While waiting for Avah, they quietly watch the remaining performances. Gelo takes the chance to truly look at Mikki, committing every detail of his features to memory. He will miss everything.

He will miss Mikki's cheek mole, a tiny dot that Gelo has come to cherish. He will miss the way Mikki's nose scrunches up when he's amused or confused, a cute habit that never fails to make Gelo's heart flutter. And that open-mouthed smile—rare and precious—where Mikki's fang-like teeth peek out from the corners of his mouth, something he's always been insecure about but Gelo finds endearing.

Gelo will miss Mikki's laughter, the way it lights up his eyes and fills the room with warmth. He will miss the way Mikki absentmindedly taps his fingers to a rhythm only he can hear, the way his brows knit together in concentration when he's working on a new song. He will miss the feel of Mikki's arm around his shoulders, a comforting weight that has been his constant through the years.

Mamimiss kita nang sobra, Mikki. Ngayon pa lang, miss na kita.

Seven years' worth of shared moments come rushing back with painful clarity. Each memory stings like a fresh wound, a reminder of how swiftly time has passed and how deeply he has come to love him.

Avah, wag ka munang babalik, please. Ibigay mo muna sakin to.

For seven long years, his heart has belonged to Mikki alone. The weight of their shared history feels almost suffocating, and it is a burden he is not yet quite ready to bear. He can’t imagine his days without Mikki’s incessant invites to hang out and his surprise visits; how he would barge into his closet to borrow his clothes, sometimes never returning them. Gelo will miss the way Mikki always seemed to know when he needed a pick-me-up, showing up with his favorite Takis or a silly joke to lighten his mood. He will miss the playful banter, the inside jokes that only they understood, the way Mikki's presence made him feel whole.

Simply put, he can never imagine a life without Mikki.

Pero kailangan.

As Avah returns from her restroom break, Gelo's heart sinks even further. He watches her approach, knowing that with each step she takes, they draw closer to the inevitable goodbye.

And just like that, he finally lets him go.

Their friends gather around to bid their farewells as well, as they will be staying the night and heading home the next day.

JL and Onie, in particular, pull him into tight hugs.

“Last stop, my friend. Kayang kaya mo yan,” Onie says, patting his back.

As they prepare to leave, Avah heads straight for the front seat, much to Gelo's annoyance. It was his car that Mikki was driving, after all. Mikki had also expected Gelo to sit beside him, but it would have been rude to call Avah out.

The ride home is cloaked in an awkward silence, punctuated only by Avah’s occasional attempts at small talk with Mikki. Gelo, sitting quietly in the back seat, avoids looking at them in an attempt to save what’s left of his severely broken heart. He stares out the window instead, thinking hard about the future ahead.

Meanwhile, Mikki keeps his focus on the road, but every so often, his eyes flick to the rearview mirror, catching glimpses of Gelo’s pained expression. He wants to say something, to break the silence, but the words are trapped in his throat.

When they reach Avah's house, Mikki slows the car to a stop. Avah unbuckles her seatbelt and turns to the backseat with a warm smile. "Thank you for the ride, Miks. Gelo, it was nice to meet you."

Gelo forces a polite smile. "Ikaw din."

Avah then turns to Mikki, her expression softening. "I'll text you?"

Mikki nods, returning her smile. "Yeah."

As Avah leans in to hug Mikki, Gelo's heart sinks further. Just how many times can a broken heart be broken?

Avah steps out, and Mikki gets out of the car to open the trunk, retrieving her bag. After a brief exchange of goodbyes, she disappears into her house. Mikki walks back to the car, opening the front passenger door for Gelo.

“Tulungan na kita,” Mikki says, his hands already reaching out.

Gelo looks up at him, his expression unreadable. “Kaya ko na,” he mutters, pushing himself up and swinging his injured foot out. There's a double meaning in his words, one that Mikki doesn’t miss.

Mikki watches him for a moment longer, then nods and steps back, letting Gelo settle into the front seat. Once Gelo is in, Mikki closes the door gently and walks around to the driver's side. He starts the car, and they continue their journey in silence.

As they pull up to Gelo's home, the car comes to a gentle stop. The familiar surroundings bring a bittersweet feeling to Gelo, knowing this might be the last time Mikki drives him home like this.

Gelo unbuckles his seatbelt and turns to Mikki. "Thank you," he says quietly.

Mikki looks at him, guilt evident in his eyes. "Sorry," he murmurs.

Gelo sighs. "Kanina pa yang sorry na yan," he replies, the words carrying the weight of everything left unsaid between them.

He hesitates for a moment, then adds, "Uwi ka na? Matutulog muna siguro ako saglit."

Mikki nods slowly. Gelo opens the car door, wincing slightly as he steps out. His foot still hurts. And so does his heart.

He knows Mikki will leave the car here and go home on his own. And for the first time, Gelo doesn’t make it his problem how Mikki will get back. As he makes his way to the gate, he turns back for a final glance at Mikki.

"Salamat ulit," he says, his voice softer. “Ingat ka.”

"Anytime," Mikki responds, trying to smile. “Pagaling ka.”

Gelo steps into the house and finds the living room lights still on. His mom is sitting on the couch, her face a mix of concern and relief. He isn't sure if she has been waiting for him all night or if she woke up early, but the sight of her brings a lump to his throat.

She stands up as he enters, and when he meets her eyes, the weight of the day's events crashes down on him. Unable to hold it in any longer, Gelo breaks down, tears streaming down his face. He moves towards her and hugs her tightly, burying his face in her shoulder.

His mom doesn't ask any questions, understanding that sometimes words aren't necessary. She wraps her arms around him, holding him close, providing the comfort and reassurance he desperately needs.

She gently strokes his back, her voice soft and soothing. "Kumain ka na, ‘nak? Anong gusto mo? Ipagluluto kita.”

“Thank you, Mama,” Gelo manages to whisper.

With only an hour of sleep, Gelo gets ready for his niece’s graduation ceremony. The school auditorium is filled with proud parents and family members crowding the seats, eagerly waiting for the ceremony to begin. Soon, the principal’s voice echoes through the microphone as the graduates, dressed in their caps and gowns, walk across the stage to receive their diplomas. Julia’s name is called, and their family erupts into applause. Gelo’s heart swells with pride as he watches her shake hands with the principal and accept her diploma, her face beaming with happiness.

After the ceremony, they gather outside for photos. Julia runs up to Gelo, showing off her diploma.

“Tito Gelo, look!” she exclaims.

Gelo kneels down to her level, his eyes softening. “I’m so proud of you, Juju!”

Julia giggles and hugs him tightly, and Gelo hugs her back.

Later, they head to a nearby restaurant for a celebratory dinner. The table is filled with laughter and chatter as they enjoy their meal.

Gelo’s sister leans over to him. “Thanks for coming, Gelo. Sobrang happy niya oh,” she says, nodding towards Julia, who is animatedly talking about her day.

“Syempre naman. Malakas kayo sakin eh,” Gelo replies, smiling back.

As they finish their desserts, Gelo’s phone buzzes in his pocket. He pulls it out and sees a message from Mikki.

Mikki

San ka? Inom tayo. One for the road?

Gelo stares at the message for a moment. As he types out a response, his fingers tremble slightly.

Sure. Saan?

A few moments later, Gelo's phone buzzes again, signaling a reply from Mikki.

Sa usual spot. Tara na.

Gelo takes a deep breath, his heart pounding in his chest. He excuses himself from the table, and as he stands up, his mom looks at him quizzically.

"Oh, saan ka pupunta?" she asks.

Gelo hesitates for a moment, unsure of how much to reveal. "May pupuntahan lang po ako saglit. May aayusin lang," he replies vaguely, offering a reassuring smile before heading towards the exit.

Before leaving, Gelo leans down to give each of his nieces a kiss on the cheek. “See you mamaya.”

***

As Gelo arrives, he finds Mikki already waiting for him on the hood of his car. And God help him, he looks so beautiful.

Without missing a beat, Mikki remarks, "Sarado pala. Sunday ngayon."

Gelo responds with a nonchalant shrug, "Ok lang yan, sus. Akyat pa rin tayo."

Mikki hands him a bottle of beer, and Gelo accepts it as they begin to take the stairs to the top. They settle in a comfortable spot and clink their bottles together before taking a chug.

They drink in silence, the night sky stretching out above them, the city lights twinkling in the distance. Gelo feels a mix of emotions—love, loss, hope—all swirling within him. The quiet between them is comforting, a reminder that despite everything, Mikki is still here.

Suddenly, Gelo starts to laugh. It's a genuine, heartfelt laugh that echoes in the night. Mikki looks at him curiously.

"Share mo naman yan. May hinalo ka diyan, ano?" Mikki teases.

Gelo shakes his head, still laughing. "Wala. Yun lang yun." He laughs harder, feeling a sense of clarity and freedom he hasn't felt in a long time.

Mikki pouts playfully. "Ang daya. Di ka pa rin nagsheshare."

Gelo takes a deep breath, his laughter subsiding. "San na kaya tayo after seven more years, no?"

Mikki smiles, looking ahead thoughtfully. "Sana successful na. At peace. Yun lang naman ang gusto ko. Ikaw ba? In seven years, nasaan na ang isang Gelo Rivera?"

Gelo's smile softens and he looks at Mikki. "Masayang masaya."

Mikki raises an eyebrow. "Aba. Bakit?"

"Kasi may nagpapasaya na sakin."

Mikki's smile fades into a wistful expression. He’s glad that Gelo can finally prioritize his own happiness, even if it means not being part of it anymore. It was about time, and Gelo deserves it.

"Naks. Aabangan ko yan,” he says, raising his bottle to clink it with Gelo’s, initiating the toast.

Also in the quiet of his mind, Mikki reflects, Para sa’yo, Gelo. Kay tagal din kitang mamahalin.
