Work Text:
Eli stared at his phone longer than the sum of his total screen time for the whole week. He blinks once. Twice. Thrice.
And in fact, the message was still staring back at him.
It had to be a joke, Eli rations. Perhaps someone took ahold of Naib's cellphone and sent these texts as some kind of unfunny prank. Or maybe, the less desirable —he's most preferred— option, Naib had confessed to him. In messages. At 3:00 AM. Eli shook his head at the thought and ran his slender fingers through his brunette hair.
After thirty minutes of pondering he had decided to finally respond, he settled for a reply that wouldn't be too pathetic to look back at if his suspicions of all of these being a prank was correct.
Eli hadn't realize until 5 hours later, when he showed the exchange to his good friend; Fiona, that he'd apparently been blocked.
"What? But why would he..?" Fiona scoffed. "He probably realized that he can't unsend messages. Plus, you'd do the same," Eli shot her a glare. "I'd do it too!" Eli only looked at his phone with a defeated expression. "Hey, cheer up! Y'know Naib isn't the best when it comes to handling these things. Either way, we'll see him tomorrow. You can talk to him about the message then," Eli groaned. "I am not looking forward to that at all," the red head laughed. "Don't worry, I'll be beside you holding your hand while you two confess your love for each other!" Eli sank down on the couch.
"I don't even know if I like him. Or, if I'm ready for that," He mumbles. "Yes and no," Fiona replied. "Here if you'd like, you can contact him on my phone," The brunette quickly leapt onto his feet and snatched his friend's phone from her hand. he dashed out of the room and locked himself in the bathroom. He easily unlocked the device—it didn't take a detective to know that Fiona's password was her lover's birthday.
Fiona's phone was ridiculously close to his face. He ignored Fiona's and Naib's past messages and quickly typed out an SMS.
Fiona's phone buzzed, along with an annoying notification sound. To his surprise, a reply came in quickly.
Eli groaned and leaned on the bathroom door. "Eli, come on! Open the door!" The boy could feel the vibration of Fiona's furious knocking against the door. He let out an exasperated sigh. Eli insisted for the two to spend the rest of the afternoon watching a movie— Eli kept his notifications volume on the highest level. And every time he heard that familiar ding! his heart would jump all the way up to his mouth. (Only to be disappointed that it was just another spam from an application that he swore he uninstalled.)
The next morning Eli procrastinated getting ready for school. — fixing that one feather sticking out of his owl Brooke was crucial! (He decided to just pluck it out upon realizing he's gonna be late for his morning classes.)
Naib kept his head low for all the lectures. Margaretha poking him one time to ask if he was feeling okay. Naib only nodded. Eli couldn't control the guilt bubbling inside him, so he confronted Naib the moment he caught him walking on the stairs alone.
Naib was quiet while Eli rambled about.. everything! From how annoyed he was with Naib for ignoring him, how Naib didn't need to be scared, how Brooke pecked him when Eli plucked a little too harshly. Eli showered him with words of reassurance that he assumed were perceived well, considering how a blush was creeping it's way into Naib's face.
His train of babbling coming to a halt when Naib brushes his lips onto Eli's. It was a barely there kiss, yet it made Eli feel weak. A coil of heat forming in the pit of his stomach. Upon realizing that Eli didn't dislike his advances, Naib curled his hand against the nape of Eli's neck and proceeded to kiss him once more. The other kiss had been innocent—Almost like an experiment if Eli would retaliate upon it. This one, on the other hand, was rough and desperate. Naib's fingernails digging into his nape as he kept the distance between them close. The thought of Naib wanting Eli this badly made the taller male's knees wobbly.
Naib let go once he remembered they needed to breathe. His mouth felt bruised. Eli looked dazed and Naib fought the urge to kiss him once more. (He wouldn't have the same amount of self-control if they weren't in a public setting.) Eli let go of their embrace and scanned his surrounding, once he realized that no one had been around, he let out a sigh of relief and looked anywhere but at Naib's face.
"Uhm.. We will continue this "talk" later, understand?" Eli said with the little bit of composure he had left. "Okay," Naib had a smile pasted on his face. "And, make sure to unblock me when you get the chance," Eli waved a hand while walking downstairs. Naib watched Eli walk 4 steps down before stopping. "Science is upstairs. We have Science," Eli wanted to slap away the shit-eating grin Naib had.
